Extragear is not part of official KDE 4.3. FWIW, googledata has not even been
released yet (there is no tarball). And we all know how long it takes for NEW
(source) package to enter Debian.

Simply said, announcement is misleading and confusing at very least.

Hi,

one of the items of KDE 4.3 I was looking forward to is the Korganizer <->
Google calendar integration by
http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/extragear/pim/googledata/calendar/ . According to
the release announcement it is part of 4.3. I haven't found it yet in the
Debian packages yet. Are there plans to package this?

Thanks for the other nicely working packages.

Thanks for packaging KDE 3.5.9 including KDEPIM

2008-03-07 Thread Martin Steigerwald

Hi!

Many thanks for packaging KDE 3.5.9. I really like the many small and
bigger improvements in KDEPIM 3.5.9.

Thanks a lot for your continued efforts of packaging the latest and
greatest of KDE (4.0.2) while still supporting current KDE releases for
production use (3.5.9).

I really look forward to KDE 4.1 ;-)

Ciao,

Schedule for new version of kmail (kdepim)?

2006-06-27 Thread Christian Schuerer
Hello,

does anyone know why there are no new packages (with 3.5.3 branch) for kdepim
(kmail,...) in sid?

Kmail crashes quite often and loses configuration settings (e.g. folder based
configuration). It was reported that the new 3.5.3 version fixes these
problems, so I was hoping to have it in sid soon.

Any news about it?

regards,

   Christian

okay, you're correct, I just checked in my books. I do too many C those

gcc 4 is *not* wrong, though it should have a warning for that ...

Then it's a gcc bug.

when you write :

Type1 func(...) {
Type foo;
}

AFAIK either Type is a class, and then it's () constructor is called,
else if it's a struct, a default constructor is called, that does the
same as in C : it allocates enough space to make the struct live in it,
and then sets all its bits to 0.

If you have evidences that it's not done, I suggest you to bug gcc since
a really serious problem.

2005-08-19 Thread Reinhold Kainhofer
SVN commit 451025 by kainhofe:

ARRRGGH! Just when we release kde 3.4.2, a nasty bug in connection with gcc 4.0
(NOT with 3.3.x, which I use) creeps up:
It seems that gcc 4.0 is no longer initializing all members of a struct, while
gcc 3.3.x obviously did something like that. So we can't simply take a new
icaltime structure, since its member will be initialized with random values in
gcc 4.0. So everything that later on checks the members of the struct will work
on uninitialized values! Rather, we need to use a null time (all fields
initialized to 0) and set all necessary fields later on.
This fixes the end date corruption (only of all-day events) that vanRijn and
and Will are observing with their gcc 4.0-compiled kdepim.

If any distribution is using kde 3.4.2 compiled with gcc 4.0, I suppose this
fix needs to go in!

building kdepim 3.4.1

2005-06-26 Thread Timo Springmann
Hi list,

I try to build a debian package of a patched kdepim-source from alioth. This
is what I did:

apt-get source korganizer
dpkg-source -x
unzip the downloaded .tar.bz2 archive
applied the patch
bzip2 the directory
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc

The last command generated a lot output and finally stopped with this:

[...]
dpkg-source: cannot represent change to
kdepim-3.4.1/konsolekalendar/pixmaps/cr22-app-konsolekalen

dar.png: binary file contents changed
dpkg-source: cannot represent change to

dar.png: binary file contents changed
dpkg-source: cannot represent change to
kdepim-3.4.1/konsolekalendar/pixmaps/cr16-app-konsolekalen

dar.png: binary file contents changed
dpkg-source: cannot represent change to kdepim-3.4.1.tar.bz2: binary file
contents changed
dpkg-source: building kdepim in kdepim_3.4.1-1.dsc
dpkg-source: unrepresentable changes to source

Any hints how to get kdepim build?

Another question is: is there a way to only (re)build one application (i.e.
korganizer) and not the whole kdepim package?

As you might see, I'm not a developer, but I try my best :)

Hi,

I'm currently rebuilding kdepim from the 4:3.4.0-0pre1 packages with the fix
for <http://bugs.kde.org/102351>. Some notes:

 - libtool: needs to build-depend on a version providing
usr/share/libtool/libtool.m4 (For some reason I still had the woody version
on my system.)
 - missing build-depend: libart_lgpl_2.so is in libart-2.0-dev, again:
testing and later.
 - do parallel builds fail? I see a failure on

I agree, and if I were to make the decision I'd include it in the
Depends field, at least until the strong relation Recommends implies
  "makes into the userbase".

on the other hand, Daniel's reasoning is also valid, and it's his

Alright, I appended some thoughts to the bug report, and Daniel Schepler
kindly responded with his reasoning. I thought I'd discuss it a bit
here again before potentially following up, just to maybe bounce a few
ideas and hopefully not waste too much of the maintainers' time.

On Monday, 6 Sep 2004 02:01, Daniel Schepler wrote:

I tend to use either apt-get or Synaptic, but I didn't personally find
it too difficult to find the cause of or solution to the situation; my
concern is mainly for other users, such as the OP (and I don't know
what front-end he used).

One can argue the relative merits and demerits of different front-ends
until one is blue in the face, but apt-get is still the most frequently
cited front-end in howtos and other documents that inexperienced users
are likely to encounter. (It does state recommendations in the default
configuration, but without installing them automatically or emphasising
their importance.)

> Also, I interpreted that sentence of policy to mean "if A doesn't

Here, Daniel is referring to this sentence:

"The Depends field should be used if the depended-on package is required
for the depending package to provide a significant amount of
functionality."
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-binarydeps

It is open to interpretation, and I don't think either interpretation is
wrong. I think what Daniel is getting at is that you could use an
MTA/MDA setup with KMail strictly as a reader of local mailboxes, thus
eliminating the need for protocol support whilst having KMail provide a
significant amount of functionality on its own in an unusual, but
plausible setup.

Perhaps a reasonable approach would be to add kdepim-kio-plugins as a
dependency of the kdebase metapackage. It already depends on
kdebase-kio-plugins, which has the following description:

"This package includes the base kioslaves. This includes file, http,
ftp, smtp, pop and imap."

(I am not sure if it still does include IMAP, since kdepim-kio-plugins
is also needed by KMail for IMAP support, but its list of installed
files suggests it does at least have some responsibility for IMAP
handling.)

That would increase the likelihood of it being installed on most
systems, but it could still be omitted for slimmed-down systems.
Presumably by that same logic, it is already depended on by kdepim. I
would guess, though, that a lot of users of KMail do not have the
entire kdepim suite. Tricky. I see no clear-cut answer.

My desire to have kdepim-kio-plugins included as a dependency of KMail
is, I believe, no more nor any less valid from a policy point of view
than the opinion that it should be kept as a recommends.

Instead, I'd motivate it pragmatically, seeing that the current
situation has caused confusion for some users, enough that they
couldn't solve it themselves. The package in question weighs in at
369 KiB installed. To put it into perspective, this is 6% of the size of
the kmail package (i.e. not including other libraries). Including it as
a dependency seems to be a small price to pay to avoid confusion.

As you can tell, I am not exactly sure about how to follow up, so I'd
greatly appreciate some input.

Exactly. Either the error message needs to be expanded (a lot!) or we need
full dependency on the plugin package. IMHO.

Doh! My apologies. I just reread the report, and if I'm reading it
correctly, the maintainer seems to think that a Recommends tag is
sufficient. If that's the case (let me know and I'll add to the
report), I completely agree with you; that is not sufficient given the
cryptic command line error message, and the even more cryptic message

I think this is really stupid. IMHO kmail should just depend on this package.
I understand that most people will probably not use IMAP, but for those who
do, this will be a major stumble block.

The error message is cryptic and gives no hint as to the problem. You wont
find this kind of behaviour in commercial software.

Certainly there are already plenty of weird dependencies in KDE (like
esound???), surely we can live with one more.

Hi,

the kdepim packages have changed significantly in 3.1.1 compared to 3.1.0. I
already wrote to the debian-kde list that this happened but can't be changed
to keep my packages in sync with the ones in unstable.

To upgrade, you need to remove the packages that conflict and then apt-get
install kdepim.

They're not - at least, -pim is full of compile errors since Dirk's
changes and I can't get any of the conduits to link with the new Makefiles
either. So some other kind of figuring is needed.

Would be nice if we could port those changes to the BRANCH also after checking

Quite right. Those are plugin modules, accessed through KLibLoader, and
the Makefile.am hasn't changed in over a year:

1.20 (adridg 18-Dec-01): libnullconduit_la_SOURCES =
setup_base.ui null-conduit.cc null-factory.cc

This is a case of the infrastructure changing over the years and me not
noticing it. I'll change it to whatever y'all need, but I'll need a hint.
Actually, looking at the KOrganizer plugins, the main difference I see is

libkorg_holidays_la_LDFLAGS = -module $(KDE_PLUGIN)

Is that what's needed?

Adriaan,

you're having kde modules in /usr/lib/kde3/* that are versioned. Could you
evaluate if you could remove the versioning as it seems that that isn't
necessary ? Dirk could help you check if our assumptions are correct and if
you can change the Makefile.am's accordingly.

Ugh. Please don't suggest using force-all; it's very dangerous.
force-depends is probably what you want in this case.

On a related note those files shouldn't really be verisoned at all since
they can only be accessed via dlopen, similiarly to the kicker applets.
That is probably the reason I put them in kpilot as I did, since when
they eventually get corrected only the .la and .so will remain. I wonder
if someone could fix that in cvs...

Thanks,
Chris

Ugh, I just realized why I didn't catch this. I forgot to test install

Add
deb http://infobeam.lnix.net/mirror/grepper/pub/kdepim/ ./

to /etc/apt/sources.list
or wait that KDE 3.1.1 enters SID (better solution at the moment). You can
read Chris Cheney report on the list. Thanks Chris for the report and your

Please change deb lines for unoffical kdepim debs (Sid)

2003-03-09 Thread Robert
Hi all.
As Chris Cheney has stated that the official debs will be held up a
little longer, I thought it might be good to take up a kind offer of a
mirror for the kdepim debs I put up on phebehouse. This mirror will be
much faster, and may save me from being cut off by my ISP ;)

Frode M. Doeving has made a mirror at http://infobeam.lnix.net
so the deb line would be:
deb http://infobeam.lnix.net/mirror/grepper/pub/kdepim/ ./
Many thanks to Frode for doing so and offering its use.
Please change your sources.list (s) to reflect this change.

As a side note, these debs were not compiled with libmal, so the
malconduit was not built. Chris has expressed interest in including
support in the official build, so possibly this will be included in
them.

Again, thanks to Ralf Nolden for his kdepim sources from which these
were built, as well as his port of Daniel Stones XFree86-4.3 packages !

all the best,
Robert

Hello Robert,

Thank you for these packages.
I got problems to compile them from the sourcepackages myself.

I got a few problems with whitespace in my /etc/apt/preferences during
installation. I got unmet dependencies or

My preferences now look like this and works for me:

Just a note for anyone wanting to use these debs.
I had made them for myself and a few others and James asked if I would
offer them on the list, which I was glad to do. They are made from
Ralf's excellent sources for Woody (KDE BRANCH) compiled on sid with
gcc-3.2 and sid libs of course.

I have put up new packages with a different version, as the old
versioning I was using would not upgrade smoothly as I first thought.
The new ones are 4:3.1.0-0+branch1 which will upgrade smoothly when the
new kdepim is in sid.

I had originally looked at the kdelibs version in sid and mistakenly
thought that kdepim would come out with a -2 versioning, which would
have allowed an easy upgrade path. Apologizes for any inconvenience or
confusion this will cause.

So those who have already installed the other version may need to remove
them to install the official kdepim debs when they come out. Or wait
for 4:3.1.0-2. ;)

Again, the deb line is:
deb http://phebehouse.dyndns.org/pub/kdepim/ ./

By all reports these debs appear to work well.

all the best,

Hi Tom,

I update these very frequently. At the minimum 4 times a month. But
sometimes even more if I catch a few bugs that are really troublesome.

Full instructions and information about the debs can be found up one
directory: http://oberlin.cems.umn.edu/kdecvs/ I include a meta package that
all my debs depend on. This makes removing my whole setup easy (apt-get
remove kde-cvs-snapshot)...then you can just comment out my sources again,
and apt-get install the debs from sid instead, if you find it turns out to be
too broken for your tastes. I also spend alot of time on irc.freenode.net
#debian-kde working out the bugs and discussing new features etc. If you're
having trouble you may want to ask around there. Many of the inhabitants
there run my debs as well.

Cheers,
James

emphasize: HEAD has most parts of kdenetwork moved over to kdepim. You will

kdepim-libs and kaddressbook in SID, can't access my Adressbook

2003-02-16 Thread Gerhard Gaussling
Hi All,

Today I smoothly upgraded from kde2.2.2 sarge to kde3.1 sid. Thank all
Developers who made that working! Great work!

I used Chris Cheneys kde-other for kmail and everything works like a
charm.

The problem I trapped in is that there is no kdepim and kaddressbook
available yet. Is there a way to access the addresses e.g. by
evolution?

Or is it simple to add a sources.list entry for source-packages and
compile the both packages myself?

Are there unofficial-packages that fit together with the cheney/sid
packages?

I tried
deb http://koti.welho.com/jelonen/code/unofficial-debs/ ./
for pixieplus and it seems to work. But some cvs kdepim-packages from
deb http://oberlin.cems.umn.edu/kdecvs/debian/ ./
didn't work:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
kaddressbook: Depends: kdelibs4 (>= 4:3.1.91) but 4:3.1.0-2 is to be
installed
Depends: kdepim-libs (>= 4:3.1.91) but it is not going
to be installed
E: Sorry, broken packages

Does anybody know how to get kAddressBook working on sid?

Thanks in advance.

The libmal library is needed during the kdepim built.
And it seems that this package is not (yet?) available on debian.

I'll check that later. Right now I feel very much that the whole thing sucked
due to the imlib problems :-/ so this time I'll use teambuilder to package
the stuff once and for all :-)

Can't say much about that yet.

Yes, but I'm lucky enough to upload the binaries over DSL. I guess the best is
to only upload sources for the release, otherwise I'll never get the binaries
uploaded at all - DSL is really a pain when it comes to uploading :-/

I use to do that with my packages, too :-) but as you say, can't be done with

Ralph,
Thanks much for these packages. I had been wondering if it would be
possible to backport 3.1 to Woody and am wondering no longer. :)

Everything so far seems great (in the little time I've had to test)
except:
1. kaddressbook seems to be orphaned - shouldn't it be part of the
depends for kdepim?
2. noatun was crashing[1], and this was not solved by the usual generic
fixes of cleaning out /tmp , ~/.DCOP* and ~/.mcop etc. A recompile
using a 021229 snaphot tar.gz package has solved that for me.
(though it was a bit of a hack to get debuild to work)
Will you be providing some source packages too at some point ?

As a side note, I compiled it --with-lame which I realize can not be
done with official packages, so I have mp3 dirs with audiocd://:)

Thanks again for your great work!

Noticed that unstable had a new libxml2 and installed it - solved my problems.
I guess it must have added the extra patch that seems not to have been in the
original 2.4.28 source I used to create my private deb.

This looks like an enable-final issue. Try using

DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug dpkg-buildpackage

While enabling debuging output, it will disable --enable-final. Don't worry
about increasing the size of the binaries as they are still stripped.

Re: Stuck trying to build kdepim

I took a look at kdelibs/kdeui/klineeditdlg.cpp and noticed the line 26
has this:

#undef Unsorted // Required for --enable-final (qdir.h)

You may want to give that a try with the kalarm/editdlg.cpp

Stuck trying to build kdepim

Help

I have slowly managed to build .debs of all of kde except kdebindings and
kdepim. kdebindings I can live with, but kdepim is particularly an area I
want to test.

I am pretty up to date with the CVS version, and I am using the debian way (ie
using dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc -us to build the debs (using g++-3.2 and I
have build and then installed debs back to qt-copy)

It gets to the point of building kalarm and it fails with the messages below

It looks to be going wrong in editdlg.cpp which includes someway down
its list of includes. I can't find anything obviously wrong with the code
and it doesn't look like the kde cvs has had any recent changes.

The initial lines it is reporting as wrong in qdir.h are just blank lines.

Since when does the compiler take blank lines as the end of a statement?

Fwd: [Kde-pim] Distro's & packagers: kdepim/kpilot broken

2002-03-26 Thread David Bishop

FYI to the kde3 packagers out there. Note that this is a complete turn around
from my previous email on kpilot, where I suggested shipping the "3.0" kpilot
with 2.2 because of how screwed up that version is. Well, guess what,
they're both broken :-( Hopefully this will change in the very near future,
but seeing as there are only 1 and 1/10th people working on kpilot at all,
there are no garuntees...

Due to personal reasons, development on kdepim/kpilot hasn't been very
active or structured the past few months. The month of march, preparing
for RC3 & final, was a total write-off as far as development is concerned
for kdepim/kpilot. The upshot of this is that KPilot in HEAD is in an
unreleasable state.

Now I know that KDE 3.0 is theoretically just libs & base, but packagers
and distro's have the tendency to include all the other CVS modules as
well. So I'd like to warn them that KPilot from HEAD as of today will
compile but will crash with undefined symbols on just about all of its
plugins. So *don't* package KPilot right now, leave it for 3.0.1 when I
hope I've had time to work on it again.

Since I have no idea how to reach the various packagers and distro people
(except for FreeBSD) I'm sending this to the general KDE lists and hope
someone picks it up.

quick answer...you should wait a day and then update your cvs code and
rebuild. your using debian code that I'm still working on and is still
incorrect...or was when you grabbed it.

building kdepim with Ivan's kde4 packages

2001-10-18 Thread Tomas Pospisek
thanks a lot for the hints on kde-debian, Ivan. Now I'm subscribed here so
I won't miss any replyies from you ;-)

I'm trying to compile kdepim and am getting:

checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

[..and in config.log..]

configure: 6270: /usr/local/kde/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /usr/lib/kde/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /usr/local/kde/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /usr/local/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /usr/kde/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /usr/include/kde/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /usr/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /opt/kde3/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /opt/kde/include/ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: ./ksharedptr.h
configure: 6270: /usr/include/qt/ksharedptr.h

Of course I've included your environment from debiandirs and am using
configkdepim to configure.

After symlinking /opt/kde3/include/ to /usr/include/kde3 I'm getting:

in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE libraries installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!
[..config.log..]
configure: 6296: /usr/local/kde/lib/libkio.la

configure:6406: checking for KDE paths
configure:6935: checking for dcopidl
configure:6995: checking for dcopidl2cpp
configure:7055: checking for mcopidl

but:

find / -name mcopidl
/home/tpo/karm/libs/people.debian.org/rkrusty/kde3.0/source/kdelibs4-3.0-0.alpha1/arts/mcopidl
/home/tpo/karm/libs/people.debian.org/rkrusty/kde3.0/source/kdelibs4-3.0-0.alpha1/debian/install-tmp/usr/bin/mcopidl

So I've copied that down to /usr/bin

After that config runs through just fine :-).

Now make crashes at:

And I'm going to catch some sleep. Good night/day/whatever everybody.
