I didn't see any problem either. So, the cause of the sudden disk accesses remains a mystery (perhaps some bug in some daemon, since many packages have been upgraded since). Alas. AFAIK, I haven't seen such a freeze for several weeks. If some bug has been fixed in the kernel, it must be between 3.2.15 and 3.2.20. The other possible change in the system I can see is that tmpfs is no longer used for /tmp (after 2012-06-11). -- Vincent Lefèvre vinc...@vinc17.net - Web: http://www.vinc17.net/ 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: http://www.vinc17.net/blog/ Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / AriC project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Could you be convinced to reenable tmpfs for /tmp again, so we can see if that's the cause of the change? (Unfortunately I suspect it is.) If no, that's fine, of course. :) Thanks, Jonathan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Right, I wouldn't expect that to make the difference unless the main source of load on this machine is from acting as an svn server. found 647741 3.2.15-1 thanks Bug#647741 still occurs in the linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64 kernel version 3.2.15-1: I was typing in an xterm, and the characters appeared only after a few seconds. A few minutes earlier, the windows (Emacs and Iceweasel) weren't redisplayed for several seconds after switching the desktop. During the freeze, the disk activity becomes high, and so does the load average (due to disk activity, I suppose). -- Vincent Lefèvre vinc...@vinc17.net - Web: http://www.vinc17.net/ 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: http://www.vinc17.net/blog/ Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / AriC project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
