Jakub Ambrozewicz followed up with a report of tftpboot.img working, This is the approach I am taking right now. I changed the URL to point to http://auric.debian.org/~bcollins/ for the kernel/drivers install step. So far, so good! -Maitland

Ah, using that image you don't need to pass any args. Then again, that image is having problems. I've been working on a fix today. SILO Fun (Was: Re: Seems to be working (Was: Re: Debian and IPX))
I just finished installing debian in my IPX. Well, almost. When it is the time to make the disk bootable, this is the message I am getting: SILO wasn't able to install. You'll still be able to boot your system if you create a boot floppy, but it won't be able to boot without a floppy. What could be causing that and what can I do?
Re: Installing Linux on sunblade 150
I tried that with no luck. BUT I was successful in passing an nfsroot= and ip= parameter to the kernel, and doing an nfsroot install. I am having issues with XFree, and I am trying to work them out, but you help is much appreciated. If you have seen this video issue let me know. I am running X version 4.2.1.1 and the ati driver version 6.4.16. X starts up, but when it loads the top 2 inches of the screen seem to be streched to the right about a half inch. I have tried many different hsync, and vsync settings and different resolutions to no avail. Lemme know if this sounds familiar. - Original Message - From: Ben Collins [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Ryan Terry (MessEdUp) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: debian-sparc@lists.debian.org Sent: Friday, November 28, 2003 9:57 AM Subject: Re: Installing Linux on sunblade 150 On Fri, Nov 28, 2003 at 07:32:27AM -0700, Ryan Terry (MessEdUp) wrote: I have made multiple attempts to install Linux on the SunBlade 150. OpenGL problems on an Ultra/2 with Creator3D
Hello, folks- I recently got my hands on a Creator3D, and, although I've got X up and running (apparently) cheerfully, almost none of the OpenGL apps I've tried are working. I'm running a stock installation of Woody, with xserver-xfree86 configured through debconf, and a 2.4.22 kernel with DRM enabled. In a (possibly misguided) attempt to preserve bandwidth and avoid false positives on future list searches, here are my debconf choices for xserver-xfree86: X Server Driver:11 (sunffb) Video card identifier: SUNW,ffb Bus Identifier: none Video memory: autodetect Use kernel framebuffer: no (though I've tried both) ... Color depth:6 (24-bit) Modules:all but dri and xtt I get 400+ fps in glxgears, which leads me to believe that, at least fundamentally, DRM and DRI are happy. The GL xlock modes seem happy as well (though 'molecule' is currently taking a somewhat suspicious 100% of the time on one of the CPUs). Everything else I've tried (e.g. tuxracer, openuniverse, and armagetron) mangles colors, or textures, or something. It's a little hard for me to tell what exactly, since I don't have a frame of reference. The closest thing I've seen to this in the list archives is the 'Ultra1 Creator quirks' thread from July and August of '01, but I don't have (or just haven't noticed) any problems with glxgears. Is there something that needs to be done with my kernel or X (or some other) config, or am I just looking at the limits of the 15MiB of RAM the card is purported to have[1]? Re: scanner/sane/SCSI problem
I am setting up an old Ultra 1 as a scanner machine, and I have had some problems making sane connect to the SCSI-scanner. I have tried two different kernels, 2.2.20 and 2.4.17, both compiled with make-kpkg. It works only with the older kernel. snip I had a similar problem with an HP ScanJet 5 (yes - it does play music) from talking to the folks on the SANE mailing lists it seems to be something to do with the SCSI drivers on SPARC but I never got further than that. 's very interesting that 2.2 works. Sorry I can't be of more help. OK, it's a little help anyway, since I was thinking of sending this to some SANE people (no pun intended :) ). Last time I spoke to them the SANE dev. team were very keen to hear from people using GNU/Linux on non-x86 hardware and other more obscure set ups. Could you give a shout if you find out exactly what the problem is / how to fix it. Cheers, - Martin -- Martin [EMAIL PROTECTED] Seasons change, things come to pass

It's a little hard for me to tell what exactly, since I don't have a frame of reference. I've noticed that SDL based apps do this on sparc. Doesn't seem that openuniverse uses SDL though.
