Re: problem with lesstif2 installation

2013-01-14 Thread Fred

Hi Patrick,
The x86PC shows a lot of other files associated with lesstif which
aren't on the Sun. The reason I needed lesstif is to run nedit. I
couldn't get the binary package to run and it wouldn't compile from
source apparently because it couldn't find lesstif. However, now the
binary nedit package installs and runs ok so I guess my problem is
solved. Thanks for the help!

Best regards,
Fred

Also, 620414 / 1024 is ~ 605.87, which could be rounded to 606KB. I
download one via HTTP. I see a size of 623092, which is 608.48, rounds
down to 608KB.

I'm not sure what apt-get does to verify, but it probably does /some/
kind of verification. You can check the MD5 sum easily though:

$ md5sum file.deb

I've never used "wc -c" to list a file size; I'm not sure if it has
other semantics. It's coming up close what you're expecting, so maybe
it does something like skip certain bytes in the file? 'ls -l' will
display the file size for sure.

It looks like it has *.so files in the package. I just
downloaded it and the size of the *.deb matches the site.

Maybe you can do some checking?
1) Do you not have /usr/lib/libXm.so.2 or libMrm.so.2?
2) Does your *.deb package match the expected file size?
3) If you download the package directly from the site, does
the MD5 sum match the package you have locally?

If all else fails, you can open a bug for it or email the
maintainer to see if there are any sparc-specific changes that
might have results in a bad package.

2013-01-14 Thread Fred

Hi Patrick,
I have both library files.
I don't know how to check the MD5 sum. I assume apt-get would do that
before install.

The .deb file I downloaded by ftp has a size of 620414 (using wc -c).
The file at your link http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/sparc/lesstif2
has a size of 608.5 kB.
The package at the Debian ftp site which is where apt-get got what it
installed is listed as 606kB.

So, I don't really know what size it actually is!

Fred
