Bonjour Il m'arrive unn truc bizarre. To: To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.

Outro documento importante é o [4]LDAP_README do postfix. I don't get why people seem to think SELinux is a bad thing. I think it got a bad reputation with Fedora Core 2. Which is unfortunate, because it really is a good technology. It probably is good technology. But I think it should be good technology--elsewhere. Including SElinux in Debian is not like including tuxracer. Too much of the core security parts of Debian have to be changed to accommodate SElinux. If I want SElinux, I should get Redhat or Fedora. But I use Debian, and I'd like to be SElinux-free here. Manoj said that SElinux is not yet fully integrated into Debian, and I think that's good because it gives us time to re-evaluate if we need SElinux, and I hope we can re-evaluate it out of Debian. I did not quite mean that. What I meant is that SELinux is fairly well integrated in Debian; but the reference policy is tno quite polished enough to be foisted on the general user base by default -- an conscious effort is still required to turn on SELinux. As the policy improves, the effort required to use ELinux would be reduced. There is also the issue of modularity of SELinux policy, and ownership of policy modules that correspond to Debian packages -- currently, and for the foreseeable future, policy modules are shipped in one giant package, instead of separately -- and they are either inactive, or all installed into the kernel. I think this is partially SELinux is so hard to deal with in Fedora -- they have a modual security policy, with poor coverage, masquerading as a monolithic policy, and that is a poor fit for a modular OS. Mind you, what Fedora achieved is admirable -- but I think we can do better. So, in the middle term, the giant policy package will be broken up into a few packages (I am not yet ready to go the one module, one package route). We also need to get away from load _all_ modules into the kernel, all the time mechanism fedora uses. But before we get there, we have to enhance the packaging system to ensure that the security policy (initial file contexts, at least) are loaded in the kernel before the corresponding package is installed. Too bad there is no pre-install trigger in the new dpkg code; I suppose someone will have to add it in. Perhaps me. In any case, Debian is always about choices. Installing Debian from partition image
I need to install Debian on twenty computers, for desktop use. I intend making a partition image, and restoring the partition image on the twenty computers. And Gilles Mocellin had suggested using DSH when it is necessary to run a command on all computers. Installing the partition from the Debian 4.0r0 multi-arch DVD, without any updates to it, will allow easy replication, since the DVD is widely available, right? I haven't created/installed from partition image before. Are there any pitfalls that I need to be careful of? I am looking at Mondo Rescue, and PartImage. Which of these is better for this task? I looked at Beowulf, but it appears to be too much work. Is there any easy way of making a computer cluster out of these computers that have already been purchased? -- Masatran, R. Debian has several PPD files for the HL-2060 included in the foomatic-filters-ppds package: $ dpkg -L foomatic-filters-ppds | grep Brother-HL-2060 | sed 's/.*\///' Brother-HL-2060-Postscript.ppd.gz Brother-HL-2060-hl1250.ppd.gz Brother-HL-2060-lj4dith.ppd.gz Brother-HL-2060-lj5gray.ppd.gz Brother-HL-2060-ljet4.ppd.gz Brother-HL-2060-pxlmono.ppd.gz If you install thias package you should be able to select these drivers when you add your printer using the CUPS web frontend (or the KDE printer administration tool). Great, the foomatic version was what I did have working in Kubuntu. If none of these drivers works then you can look for the corresponding files on the Kubuntu CD and try those (in case Kubuntu uses modified versions). The add printer dialog allows you to specify PPD files directly; it might be necessary to unzip the files with gunzip first. Furthermore, a HL-2040 adapted PPD is available here: http://www.profv.de/brother/ I think I will try that first. Thanks for your help. I will try your suggestions later this week. Sometimes that _didn't_ happen, and I guess the problem probably had something to do with a race condition involving the scsi root disk (the adaptec driver by default seems to have a stupidly long delay to let the scsi bus settle, like 15 seconds [my hand-compiled kernel uses a delay of 200ms!]). the easy workaround for such a situation is bootarg rootdelay=7 documented in etch release notes. Is it possible to encrypt the outbound emails with gpg? gpg/pgp signing/encryption/decryption is all about trusting the human associated with the key pair. Using gpg relates to the mail *user*, so the mail server has nothing to do with gpg, other than delivering the message. If it is possible how can i do that? Sign/Encrypt with your mail client, then push Send ;) Looks like you are using Thunderbird - I use the Enigmail plugin [0] with Icedove - 'aptitude install enigmail'. -- Kind Regards, Michael Shuler [0] http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Penalty of SELinux?
I run a bunch of old machines. Now that SELinux is integrated (compiled in) to various pieces of Debian, is there a penalty even if its not activated? Thanks, Doug. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If it is possible how can i do that? Encrypting and signing of emails is normally handled by the Mail User Agent (i.e. your email program). You seem to be using Thunderbird, which can get GPG support via the enigmail extension. Enigmail is packaged for Debian; you can also install it from http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ if you don't like the fact that the Debian package depends on Icedove. -- Regards,| http://users.icfo.es/Florian.Kulzer Florian | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. The 'standard' solution I found is placing a new entry in GNOME's startup applications, but I feel it would be a better approach to replace metacity in gconf's '/desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/current' with compiz, but I'm not sure this is safe to do. Help with fstab and ntfs
Hi, I keep getting errors like this when mounting my ntfs drives. *Code:* $LogFile indicates unclean shutdown (0, 0) Failed to mount '/dev/sda6': Operation not supported Mount is denied because NTFS is marked to be in use. Choose one action: Choice 1: If you have Windows then disconnect the external devices by clicking on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the Windows taskbar then shutdown Windows cleanly. Choice 2: If you don't have Windows then you can use the 'force' option for your own responsibility. For example type on the command line: mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda6 /home/sid/Drives/E -o force Or add the option to the relevant row in the /etc/fstab file: /dev/sda6 /home/sid/Drives/E ntfs-3g defaults, force 0 0 My fstab is this: *Code:* # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # file system mount point type options dump pass proc/proc procdefaults0 0 /dev/sda3 / ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1 /dev/sda7 noneswapsw 0 0 /dev/hda/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user, noauto 0 0 /dev/fd0/media/floppy0 autorw, user, noauto 0 0 /dev/sdb1 /home/sid/Drives/Mybook vfatdefaults,umask=000,users 0 0 /dev/sdc1 /home/sid/Drives/500g ntfs-3g defaults,umask=000,users 0 0 /dev/sda5 /home/sid/Drives/D ntfs-3g defaults,umask=000,users 0 0 /dev/sda6 /home/sid/Drives/E ntfs-3g defaults,umask=000,users 0 0 This fstab worked in my last installation, so any ideas on what my have gone wrong?

[solved] modem hung up on etch
the problem was the isdn network, installing only the package ppp or pppoe contained in the first cd-rom of etch is not configurating correctly the modem that run for a line not isdn. To resolve installing the package pppconfig and setting the option in the file: /etc/ppp/options to comment this lines: # If this option is given, pppd will presume the peer to be dead if n # LCP echo-requests are sent without receiving a valid LCP echo-reply. # If this happens, pppd will terminate the connection. Use of this # option requires a non-zero value for the lcp-echo-interval parameter. # This option can be used to enable pppd to terminate after the physical # connection has been broken (e.g., the modem has hung up) in # situations where no hardware modem control lines are available. #lcp-echo-failure 4 regards, -- heba -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
