Re: Problema configuracion monitor y touchpad post-instalacion Squeeze
No podemos saberlo. To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-spanish-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
William Shakespeare

Dúvidas sobre Roteador com Iptables
Boa noite queridos amigos!

With auto discovery option on, IE does not have to change anything, if there is a proxy, use it. If not, directly access. So I am thinking to have a mid-proxy on my laptop, and every program just uses it as proxy. But this mid-proxy could auto discovery, or at least, provide me a profile switching function. My guess is that the large majority of Debian users will stay with the default web server, which is Apache. At best, you will only get a link to a tutorial on the web, which you can probably find yourself. Is the Nginx documentation not adequate? I consider anything below 1600x1200 as utterly unusable. Unfortunately, most monitors nowadays are built with the idea that people use them only to watch movies. So the next best thing is 1920x1200; that should get you the best of both worlds. Samsung, e.g., has some *very* nice monitors at that resolution. 1920x1080 is 1080p in the broadcast TV world, or 'full' HD, therefore high volume production and a reasonable price. I've just moved to a TV at this resolution from 1440x900, and life is definitely better. The computer feels newer and more powerful, even though of course in reality it is struggling harder to shift more pixels around. -- Joe -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. [ANNOUNCE] apt-offline1.2 released
Hello World, I'm pleased to announce apt-offline version 1.2 Release Highlights * Bug Fix Release - Fixes bug with newer apt system's gpg signature verification mechanism * Minor changes. Please see the git log for full details[1]. . What is apt-offline ? apt-offline is an Offline APT Package Manager . apt-offline can fully update and upgrade an APT based distribution without connecting to the network, all of it transparent to apt . apt-offline can be used to generate a signature on a machine (with no network). This signature contains all download information required for the apt database system. This signature file can be used on another machine connected to the internet (which need not be a Debian box and can even be running windows) to download the updates. The downloaded data will contain all updates in a format understood by apt and this data can be used by apt-offline to update the non-networked machine. . apt-offline can also fetch bug reports and make them available offline apt-offline is available at [2] and the latest release can be downloaded here [3] [1] http://git.debian.org/?p=apt-offline/apt-offline.git [2] https://alioth.debian.org/projects/apt-offline/ [3] https://alioth.debian.org/frs/?group_id=100399release_id=1669 Cheers! -- Ritesh Raj Sarraf | http://people.debian.org/~rrs Necessity is the mother of invention. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Any comments welcome Multiply the two numbers together to get the total pixel count. 1440 x 900 is a standard 16:9 ratio that gives you 1,296,000 pixels. 1600x1200 is a pretty good 4:3 ratio that gives you 1,920,000 pixels. That's about 50% more pixels. However, it's getting harder to find 4x3 screens around. In North America, the common size is 1920x1080, a standard HD size at 16:9. That gives you 2,073,600 pixels - an insignificant increase over 1600x1200. You may have some luck finding a 1920x1200 screen (16:10) which gives you 2,304,000 pixels. That's almost double the count of your 1440x900 screen. However, these ones are rare. For any TV viewing, the programming is all going to 16:9 so if you want to watch current programming, go with a widescreen monitor. The 16:9 ones work well but 16:10 can allow you to have onscreen controls, etc. below the program. Since 16:9 are more common and generally cheaper... You can watch widescreen programs on a 4:3 monitor, just like you can on a TV. However, you won't be using the full screen size. There's little point in getting any monitor that doesn't do at least 1920x1080 these days. If you are on a very tight budget, getting a used monitor may be the answer. ..if you can afford the desk space, get a _big_ CTR, I usually run mine at 2048x1536x32@58 to 60Hz, power grid here is 50Hz. I like CRTs but, as you mentioned, they do take up desk space. They also use more energy than a modern LCD (especially the LED variety). And they weigh a lot. Moreover they are, like 4:3 screens, becoming hard to find. I replaced my old 21 CRT (I had been running it at 1792x1344x32@75hz) in favour of a 24 LED monitor running at 1920x1080. That's a drop of .4M pixels but the really high resolution LCD screens cost a lot more. For some reason the 1920x1200 LCD monitors aren't readily available in my area or I would have bought one. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Failure message was Can not open modem. The logfile expanded it saying Cannot open /dev/ttyS3: Permission denied. And have you checked if your modem is detected by your system at that port (/dev/ttyS3)? dmesg | grep -i ttys will tell more about the available ports. Anyway, what kind of modem do you have (external rs-232, external USB, internal pci, embedded-whatever-linmodem-crap) :-) gnome-ppp is just a GUI frontend for Wvdial. I had used System-Administration-Software Center to install a dialer. gnome-ppp was the only option offered - so I loaded it. Yes, and that's right. I only wanted to point you another option to get the job done, in the event gnome-ppp fails at some point. What was the exact output you got? root@debianowl:/home/richard# gnome-ppp --version (gnome-ppp:2629): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with non-zero page size is deprecated (gnome-ppp:2629): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with non-zero page size is deprecated WVCONF: /root/.wvdial.conf root@debianowl:/home/richard# Got the same response whether or not as root. Don't run it as root but as normal user. Anyway, the version does not come out :-? How do I use gnome-ppp as normal [NOT super] user? I'd would start by launching the application from the GNOME menu, it should come up a wizard. I tried that. That was first hint something was wrong ; If something is wrong you have to try to solve it first :-) Then I tried in normal terminal getting richard@debianowl:~$ gnome-ppp (gnome-ppp:2737): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with non-zero page size is deprecated (gnome-ppp:2737): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with non-zero page size is deprecated WVCONF: /home/richard/.wvdial.conf GNOME PPP: Connecting... You will have to look at the configuration settings you have defined for your provider (connection settings) and modem (init strings). Notice that when *NOT* asking for version, it's available. I'm afraid that's Wvdial version, not gnome-ppp :-) How do I create clickable icon to dial into my ISP as a 'normal' user? I can't tell for gnome-ppp but this can be usually done in wvdial by definining different ISPs profiles [sections] and then passing it as argument

I concur... the best thing for you is going on the search engines find documentation that will provide you the information on how-to. What I can personally tell you, I currently do use Nginx as a front to serve https web sites, but then it pushes to a cluster of Apache servers on the backend. Random system freezes - need your input
Hello everyone Lately I changed from Fedora to Debian squeeze on amd64. A few days later my system started to freeze randomly. I first noticed this behaviour while I was copying files from my system disk to my USB disk, but don't think this is the culprit. After having searched high and low on my system I am running out of ideas. Please find bellow the details of my researches. I really would be happy if someone could support me here. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance Matthias USB: -- The freezes occured very often when transfering data via USB e.g. from my digicam or MP3 player, which I plugged in on __different__ ports - but also the freezes happened when no device was pluged in (except from my keyboard and mouse). Re: changing window managers in debian 6.0.4
Thanks Camaleón and Johan for your suggestions. For reference, here's what happened: Camaleón: i did try the update-alternatives path, including the --display option to check. It reports wmaker, but has no effect otherwise that i can tell. The idea of choosing a window manager a login time is intriguing, but for my system (6.0.4 squeeze) there doesn't seem to be an option to do this. Johan: I tried the gui method you suggested for changing the wm (and i believe your path was correct). This time there was an effect, but not much and sort of the wrong one :( What happened was that the screen drawing shifted upwards, as if it were no longer taking into account the menu bar along the top of the entire screen. So a few things had their top parts hidden by this shift, but none of the wmaker stuff seemed to be present. But it is very valuable nevertheless --- i imagine that i have to disable the entire gnome apparatus somehow (but don't know whether wmaker is savvy enough to manage under those circumstances). Thanks in advance for any other advice anybody may have. (Is anybody actually using WindowMaker on this list? Maybe my problem is i'm posting to the wrong list? :) But thanks everybody for your help because you certainly are very helpful!) dan On Wed, Apr 25, 2012 at 9:18 AM, Camaleón noela...@gmail.com wrote: On Tue, 24 Apr 2012 21:36:09 -0700, Dan Hitt wrote: I'm running debian 6.0.4 (squeeze). Re: Iceweasel mess with this mailing list (Solved)
Sorry about the Iceweasel. Yes I meant Icedove. I was mucking around with the settings and ran across Display Attachments Inline under the View menu. I checked it and the problem went away. I'm not sure why this should make such a difference but it does. The package now works as it should. The main index shows in the normal window and the individual messages show in the bottom window as attachments. Before the email looked like attachments to attachments. Once you choose a different window manager, that will be the default for that user. I use Fluxbox, and GDM3 logs me into a Fluxbox session every time. I did not change anything with the update-alternatives command (mostly because the other users on this system default to Gnome). -Rob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
