[HS]probleme avec DomU dans Squeeze Xen 4.0

2012-04-25 Thread jerome moliere

-
ata4 : failed to rescue link (Scontrol 0)
ata1.01 : failed to rescue link (Scontrol 0)
ata2.01 : failed to rescue link (Scontrol 0)

mounting /dev root/sys failed : no such file or directory
mounting /dev root/proc failed : no such file or directory
et

No init found. Try passing init = bootarg

  → 1er abord : apt-listbugs

2. http://bugs.debian.org/apt-listbugs
  → http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=670320

Ben oui, on

4. donc, hop : http://bugs.debian.org/ruby-locale
  → http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=670320

kernel not found

Avec (hd0, msdos2) :
mounting /dev root/dev failed : no such file or directory
mounting /sys root/sys failed : no such file or directory
mounting /proc root/proc failed : no such file or directory

No init found. Try passing init = bootarg

J'ai bien vérifié /etc/fstab , /boot/grub/grub.cfg,

http://packages.qa.debian.org/o/octave3.2.html

 script me da mejores resultados, aunque no sé qué versión será (mañana

Bueno... no dijiste qué hiciste exactamente, quizás te faltó hacer algo,
No podemos saberlo.

 yo no).

aptitude show octave

server-identifierproxy.bpd.local;
ddns-updateson;
ddns-update-styleinterim;
ddns-domainnamebpd.local;
ddns-rev-domainnamein-addr.arpa.;
#ignoreclient-updates;

include /etc/bind/rndc.key;

zonefirewall.bpd.local.{
primary127.0.0.1;
key rndc-key;
}

zone 0.168.192.in-addr.arpa. {
primary 127.0.0.1;
key rndc-key;
}

default-lease-time 86400;
max-lease-time 86400;

authoritative;

subnet 10.152.187.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
}

# aki ficam as placas de rede

# rede local
subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
authoritative;
allow client-updates;
allow unknown-clients;
ddns-updates on;
server-name proxy.bpd.local;
range 192.168.0.150 192.168.0.254;
option routers 192.168.0.1;
option ip-forwarding on;
option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255;

option netbios-name-servers 192.168.0.1;
option domain-name-servers 192.168.0.1;
}

E esta é a entrada no log do servidor novo :

Apr 25 11:30:57 proxy dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 84:2b:2b:7d:65:4f via eth1
Apr 25 11:30:58 proxy dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 192.168.0.250 to

84:2b:2b:7d:65:4f (POWER09) via eth1

A versão do dhcp no lenny é 3.1.1

E a versão do dhcp no squeeze é 4.1.1

2012-04-25 Thread Moksha Tux
Boa noite queridos amigos!

*#==
# REGRAS PARA PROTEÇÃO
#==
## INPUT

# CONTRA PING DA MORTE
iptables -A INPUT -p icmp --icmp-type echo-request -m limit --limit 1/s -j
ACCEPT

# ACEITANDO CONEXÕES
iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT

# CONTRA PORTCAN OCULTO
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --tcp-flags SYN,ACK,FIN,RST RST -m limit --limit
1/s -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --tcp-flags ALL SYN,ACK -j DROP

# ACEITANDO CONEXÕES
iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT

## FORWARD

# CONTRA PING DA MORTE
iptables -A FORWARD -p icmp --icmp-type echo-request -m limit --limit 1/s
-j ACCEPT

# ACEITANDO CONEXÕES* *
iptables -A FORWARD -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT

# CONTRA PORTCAN OCULTO* *
iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp --tcp-flags SYN,ACK,FIN,RST RST -m limit --limit
1/s -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp --tcp-flags ALL SYN,ACK -j DROP

# ACEITANDO CONEXÕES* *
iptables -A FORWARD -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT

**#==
# FIM DAS REGRAS PARA PROTEÇÃO
#==*
*
*
respeito. Grande abraço,

Sigh. Sorry, it was a typo. That explains why it did not work for the OP.
I though that was strange, since I've successfully used arrays to maintain

Re: Any recommendation for an auto-proxy tool?

2012-04-25 Thread Magicloud Magiclouds
Sorry for the confusing, I am not providing a proxy.
What I meant was, WPAD with IE works great when laptop user moves
between proxied company environment and home. With auto discovery
option on, IE does not have to change anything, if there is a proxy,
use it. If not, directly access.
So I am thinking to have a mid-proxy on my laptop, and every program
just uses it as proxy. But this mid-proxy could auto discovery, or at
least, provide me a profile switching function.

I would think this is one of those occasions when you would be better
off searching the web. My guess is that the large majority of Debian
users will stay with the default web server, which is Apache. At best,
you will only get a link to a tutorial on the web, which you can
probably find yourself.

Is the Nginx documentation not adequate? Web servers are pretty much
independent of distribution issues.

If you are proposing to open this web server to the public, you will
need to learn a great deal about security.

  Recently, I have been wondering if it would be better for me to have
  1600x1200 screen. Would this be better for Linux software? What
  about HD TV? And movies?

 I consider anything below 1600x1200 as utterly unusable.
 Unfortunately, most monitors nowadays are built with the idea that
 people use them only to watch movies. So the next best thing is
 1920x1200; that should get you the best of both worlds. Samsung, e.g.,
 has some *very* nice monitors at that resolution.

1920x1080 is 1080p in the broadcast TV world, or 'full' HD, therefore
high volume production and a reasonable price. I've just moved to a TV
at this resolution from 1440x900, and life is definitely better. The
computer feels newer and more powerful, even though of course in
reality it is struggling harder to shift more pixels around.

Phew!

These array things are new to me in a shell context - I've used
associative and indexed arrays for years in awk and perl, though - and
after your example didn't work I went digging through the man page.

I missed it the first time I read the paragraph, but then twigged the
explicit use of the word compound in the relevant sentence: When +=
is applied to an array variable using compound assignment (see Arrays
below) ... new values are appended to the array Digging further
I found that compound referred to a list assignment such as X=($Y $Z).

[ANNOUNCE] apt-offline1.2 released

2012-04-25 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
Hello World,

I'm pleased to announce apt-offline version 1.2

Release Highlights
* Bug Fix Release
  - Fixes bug with newer apt system's gpg signature verification mechanism
* Minor changes.

Please see the git log for full details[1].
.

What is apt-offline ?

 apt-offline is an Offline APT Package Manager
 .
 apt-offline can fully update and upgrade an APT based distribution without
 connecting to the network, all of it transparent to apt
 .
 apt-offline can be used to generate a signature on a machine (with no
network).
 This signature contains all download information required for the apt
database system. This signature file can be used on another machine
connected
to the internet (which need not be a Debian box and can even be running
windows) to download the updates.
 The downloaded data will contain all updates in a format understood by
apt and this data can be used by apt-offline to update the non-networked
machine.
 .
 apt-offline can also fetch bug reports and make them available offline

apt-offline is available at [2] and the latest release can be downloaded
here [3]

Recently, I have been wondering if it would be better for me to
have 1600x1200 screen. Would this be better for Linux software?
What about HD TV? And movies?

Any comments welcome

Multiply the two numbers together to get the total pixel count. 1440
x 900 is a standard 16:9 ratio that gives you 1,296,000 pixels.

1600x1200 is a pretty good 4:3 ratio that gives you 1,920,000 pixels.
That's about 50% more pixels.

However, it's getting harder to find 4x3 screens around. In North
America, the common size is 1920x1080, a standard HD size at 16:9.
That gives you 2,073,600 pixels - an insignificant increase over
1600x1200.

You may have some luck finding a 1920x1200 screen (16:10) which gives
you 2,304,000 pixels. That's almost double the count of your 1440x900
screen. However, these ones are rare.

For any TV viewing, the programming is all going to 16:9 so if you
want to watch current programming, go with a widescreen monitor. The
16:9 ones work well but 16:10 can allow you to have onscreen
controls, etc. below the program. Since 16:9 are more common and
generally cheaper...

You can watch widescreen programs on a 4:3 monitor, just like you can
on a TV. However, you won't be using the full screen size.

There's little point in getting any monitor that doesn't do at least
1920x1080 these days. If you are on a very tight budget, getting a
used monitor may be the answer.

..if you can afford the desk space, get a _big_ CTR, I usually
run mine at 2048x1536x32@58 to 60Hz, power grid here is 50Hz.

I like CRTs but, as you mentioned, they do take up desk space. They also
use more energy than a modern LCD (especially the LED variety). And they
weigh a lot. Moreover they are, like 4:3 screens, becoming hard to find.

I replaced my old 21 CRT (I had been running it at 1792x1344x32@75hz)
in favour of a 24 LED monitor running at 1920x1080. That's a drop of
.4M pixels but the really high resolution LCD screens cost a lot more.

For some reason the 1920x1200 LCD monitors aren't readily available in
my area or I would have bought one.

   Wow, I got it working already. All I did was:

   /etc/init.d/gdm3 stop
   X -configure
   cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

   Actually, I did have to make a correction to xorg.conf. The

   For the record, my system has an onboard NVidia GeForce 6100 and

 Actually, I now need to figure out how to make the two screens act as

Looking back at your first post, I now see that you have a very

access to *

by self write

With this one in-place you must add back the binddn's in nslcd.conf.
Sorry for misleading you there.

Can you do a ldapsearch with the same parameters as nslcd tries (see
above), but binding with a DN?

A higher resolution provides you with additional space to locate windows

worth of it, IMO, and not for the software (HD and videos will be

 I installed fglxr driver from squeeze backports, but it didn't help.

Bad news, then. The backported driver is the same version than the
current upstream from AMD/ATI (12.3).

Besides the ATI driver, did you get another packages from there (i.e.,
xserver)? It seems you're using Squeeze's stock kernel and xserver-xorg-
core versions.

 aticonfig --initial returned that supported device could not be found.

Here are the steps to configure the closed source driver once you install
the packages:

http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary#Squeeze

The above command has to be run with no X running.

 I put a small xorg.conf file so that fglxr will be loaded, but starting
 x resulted in black console.

How bad :-(

 It seems that my graphic card is too new to be used.

Or that you need an updated xerver or kernel...

 I found a proprietary linux driver in AMD's site
 (http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx) for Radeon HD 7XXX
 series, but I don't know if it is safe to use it.

AFAIK, it matches the version that you have now (12.3).

 I put the output of /var/log/Xorg.0.log below.

 I would appreciate any help.

From the log you attach, the vesa driver is loaded instead fglrx but I
can't see any try coming from the xorg server to load the closed source
driver which can mean:

1/ The xserver version you have installed does not support your card,
although I would have expected something at the logs showing xorg falling
back to vesa.

2/ You've boot your system with no /etc/X11/xorg.conf and thus not
forcing the load of the fglrx driver.

FYI: nautilus-dropbox works with Xfce's file manager, Thunar

2012-04-25 Thread Patrick Wiseman
Hello, all:

I recently installed a new testing system, using the xfce
installation, so as to avoid the new GNOME. I wanted to install
DropBox, which comes in a package called nautilus-dropbox. I feared
that I was going to have to install Nautilus, but it turns out that's
not so. When I first opened the DropBox folder, I was prompted to
choose my file manager of choice, Thunar.

I found that interesting, and pleasing, and thought others might be
relieved to hear it too!

 Today I compared the MD5 of the ISO to that given on

 What did you do or how did you run it?

 At first I tried tried running it from sub-menu
 (Applications-Internet-GNOME ppp).
 Failure message was Can not open modem. The logfile expanded it saying
 Cannot open /dev/ttyS3: Permission denied.

And have you checked if your modem is detected by your system at that
port (/dev/ttyS3)? dmesg | grep -i ttys will tell more about the
available ports.

Anyway, what kind of modem do you have (external rs-232, external USB,
internal pci, embedded-whatever-linmodem-crap) :-)

 gnome-ppp is just a GUI frontend
 for Wvdial.

 I had used System-Administration-Software Center to install a
 dialer.
 gnome-ppp was the only option offered - so I loaded it.

Yes, and that's right. I only wanted to point you another option to get
the job done, in the event gnome-ppp fails at some point.

 What was the exact output you got?

 Got the same response whether or not as root.

Don't run it as root but as normal user. Anyway, the version does not
come out :-?

 How do I use gnome-ppp as normal [NOT super] user?

 I'd would start by launching the application from the GNOME menu, it
 should come up a wizard.

 I tried that. That was first hint something was wrong ;

If something is wrong you have to try to solve it first :-)

 Then I tried in normal terminal getting richard@debianowl:~$

I concur... the best thing for you is going on the search engines find
documentation that will provide you the information on how-to. What I can

great for simply doing that for me...

Mmm, juts a quick note. You can try with:

Mmm... (thinking out loud) could it be that you have to add additional
support for these devices to detect the CF adapter and thus the hard disk?

 In contrast, the OpenBSD 5.0 installer has no trouble finding and using

 Debian finds the disks just fine. So to get Debian, I have to go
 through the intermediate step of installing OpenBSD.

 What should I do different to do get Debian to find the disks and

Trick: you can try to fool the installer by attaching a USB key to
force the detection of additional modules.

You can also jump to a virtual debug console (Alt+F2) to gather more
information about the error.

Does this happen with all emails or only those which are PGP/MIME
signed? I know that PGP/MIME causes problems with some clients, but I
don't think that Icedove is one of them.
You could try installing the package enigmail to see if you don't have
it already installed.

Enigmail adds GPG support to Icedove/Thunderbird. It shows banner which
reads is the signature valid or not instead of signature.asc attachments
or long mess in the end of emails.

In case someone experiences those issue on CPUs beyond the

What is the advantage of booting Linux directly with EFI instead of
using rEfit? The performance is improved if the system is booted with
EFI? Or it is just that it will boot up faster. I do not have a mac,
but I might buy one and install Debian.

Is the Macbook pro 100% compatible with EFI 2.0?

I also heard that if you boot directly with EFI, the video card will
not work properly.

Random system freezes - need your input

2012-04-25 Thread Matthias Guentert
Hello everyone

Lately I changed from Fedora to Debian squeeze on amd64. A few days
later my system started to freeze randomly. I first noticed this
behaviour while I was copying files from my system disk to my USB
disk, but don't think this is the culprit. After having searched high
and low on my system I am running out of ideas. Please find bellow the
details of my researches.

I really would be happy if someone could support me here. Any input is
appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Matthias

The freezes occured very often when transfering data via USB e.g. from
my digicam or MP3 player, which I plugged in on __different__ ports -
but also the freezes happened when no device was pluged in (except
from my keyboard and mouse). So I think USB can be ruled out...

Re: changing window managers in debian 6.0.4

2012-04-25 Thread Dan Hitt
Thanks Camaleón and Johan for your suggestions.

For reference, here's what happened:

Camaleón: i did try the update-alternatives path, including the
--display option to check. It reports wmaker, but has no
effect otherwise that i can tell.

The idea of choosing a window manager a login time is
intriguing, but for my system (6.0.4 squeeze) there
doesn't seem to be an option to do this.

Johan: I tried the gui method you suggested for changing
the wm (and i believe your path was correct). This time there
was an effect, but not much and sort of the wrong one :(
What happened was that the screen drawing shifted upwards,
as if it were no longer taking into account the menu bar along
the top of the entire screen. So a few things had their top
parts hidden by this shift, but none of the wmaker stuff seemed
to be present.

But it is very valuable nevertheless --- i imagine that i have to
disable the entire gnome apparatus somehow (but don't know
whether wmaker is savvy enough to manage under those
circumstances).

Thanks in advance for any other advice anybody may have.

(Is anybody actually using WindowMaker on this list? Maybe
my problem is i'm posting to the wrong list? :) But thanks
everybody for your help because you certainly are very helpful!)

 Mmm, juts a quick note. You can try with:

 update-alternatives --config x-window-manager

 Which will ask you about the preferred option. Then you can check the
 current setting with --display.

 You can also consider in selecting WM from the available window managers
 dropdown menu at the login screen.

Re: Iceweasel mess with this mailing list (Solved)

2012-04-25 Thread Gary Roach
Sorry about the Iceweasel. Yes I meant Icedove. I was mucking around
with the settings and ran across Display Attachments Inline under the
View menu. I checked it and the problem went away. I'm not sure why this
should make such a difference but it does. The package now works as it
should. The main index shows in the normal window and the individual
messages show in the bottom window as attachments. Before the email
looked like attachments to attachments.

 What am I using - I'm not sure:
 1. the *HAND written* label on CD I used to load

DEBIAN 6.0.3 with GNOME desktop

 You better be sure about what you install as your OS, sir, or you can
 encounter bad suprises... Have you verified the md5sum of the media to
 know it comes from a trusted source?

 chuckle My phrasing was poor - posted way past my bedtime.
 What I meant was I was unsure of the version number. It IS 6.0.3.
 It was downloaded from a link given on debian.org (don't recall
 which mirror)
 Today I compared the MD5 of the ISO to that given on
 http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/debian-cd/6.0.3-live/i386/iso-hybrid/
 . It checked OK.

 2. initial attempt to use gnome-ppp failed

I tried about 6 months ago to get gnome-ppp working, and I was never
satisfied with it. It seemed like maybe when I changed settings, they
didn't take effect until I logged out/in again. Anyway, I dumped it for
wvdial launched from the gnome panel.

You could probably google wvdial and my name and find the thread I
started on this list.

On Squeeze, which uses GDM3, you need to enter your login name before
the option to change your session appears. Once you choose a
different window manager, that will be the default for that user.

I use Fluxbox, and GDM3 logs me into a Fluxbox session every time. I
did not change anything with the update-alternatives command (mostly
because the other users on this system default to Gnome).
