Re: dubtes sobre problema nucli Linux en Debian i Ubuntu

2012-11-12 Thread alex

Ja ho he solucionat.

per això no escrivia els logs a /var/log, he anat provant d'afegir

afegint acpi=off l'error desapareixia.

prement 'ctrl+x' he arrencat amb les opcions canviades

$ dpkg -S /etc/init.d/postgresql
postgresql-common: /etc/init.d/postgresql

postgresql-common :

2012-11-08 23:09:42 CET LOG: incomplete startup packet
2012-11-08 23:09:42 CET LOG: received fast shutdown request
2012-11-08 23:09:42 CET LOG: aborting any active transactions
2012-11-08 23:09:42 CET LOG: autovacuum launcher shutting down
2012-11-08 23:09:42 CET LOG: shutting down
2012-11-08 23:09:42 CET LOG: database system is shut down

$ /etc/init.d/postgresql start

http://huayra.educ.gov.ar/

Probando live-cd.
Inicia con Gnome. No me gusta Gnome.

deb http://ftp.ccc.uba.ar/pub/linux/debian/debian/ wheezy main contrib
non-free
deb-src http://ftp.ccc.uba.ar/pub/linux/debian/debian/ wheezy main
contrib non-free

Español no existe? A ver, catalanes, gallegos, vascos, asturianos y,

ftp.ccc.uba.ar/pub/linux/debian/ a ftp.ccc.uba.ar/pub/linux/debian/debian/.
En la página de espejos http://www.debian.org/mirror/list lo arreglaron,
pero no en el instalador.

La instalación transcurre sin ningún inconveniente.

Paquetes instalados.

Puerto: 21
Usuario: user
Clave: xx

en el script de ejemplo dice esto:

# datos ftp, si están en blanco el backup es sólo local
ftp_host=10.0.0.1
ftp_user=backup
ftp_pass=**

y yo lo expresé así:

ftp_host=server.soporteremoto.com.ar:21
ftp_user=user
ftp_pass=xx

No sé si será tu caso.

Buscá por ahí en /etc/apt/ a ver si vez algo así.

Oi Caio.

testar a capacidade do teu servidor? (quantas qps ele aguenta?) o ideal

suas necessidades;
2-conectar um disco rígido neste computador;
3-inicializar o computador através de um live-cd;
esta instalado o Ubuntu;
instalar o Ubuntu;

 Boa tarde caros amigos.

link http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/amd-closes-os-research-center-and-with-it-support-for-linux-2012118/ Que

Infelizmente a internet

SATA drives are normally named /dev/sda with partitions named /dev/sda1 etc.

Are you running debian-kfreebsd?

What does dmesg say about the disks? What about 'cfdisk -P s /dev/ad0'?

I'm assuming that you mean: in wheezy gnome-shell's wireless icon on the
tab doesn't give you the same setup options that squeeze's gnome 2 did.

One possibility is to choose Gnome Classic mode when you log in to
gnome. This will give you something that looks like gnome 2 and you can
get the old setup options. After you configure not to auto-connect to a
particular network, if you want to use gnome shell again, you can log
out and log back in with that choice.

Mounting of USB flash drives - observed strangeness

I've a 64 GB USB stick formatted as FAT32 as it will be

Right now I'm trying to use it on two Debian 6.0.5 machines

all defaults.

The result is:

I'm experimenting with creating a local custom repository
with the contents of several DVDs. I wish to refer to it in
the same manner on all debian machines. I don't have a
particular preference as how I refer to it. I _SHOULD_ be
machine independent!

Could someone explain what's happening here?

Two of the analog inputs are XLR and have a built-in pre-amp. The other
analog inputs are RCA and are line-level, so you'll need a pre-amp if
you plan to hook up a microphone or instrument to those inputs.

As for software, I use:

envy24control

Both drives were AOK as of Friday when I poweroff'ed the CentOS

They were recognized during the install as ext3 drives. The new root
drive is ad4, a 160 GB SATA drive. What's going on here ? Isn't the
ext3 fs supported under Debian-kfreeBSD ? TIA for any clues happy
 Veteran's Day.

Are you able to mount those filesystems as ext2? Any ext3 filesystem
should be mountable as ext2.

OT: Seeking Advice on Purchasing a Laptop

2012-11-12 Thread Thomas H. George

My backup desktop died and I am thinking of replacing it with a laptop.
I am not a gamer but a bit more than a routine user, i.e. occasionally
use big programs and am interested in experimenting with Blender. I
want to stick with Debian and have no need of Window$.

Touch screen is not essential though I am fond of the touch screen on my
HP Touchpad which is modified to run Android.

Urgency is not high as I have a full backup of the system.

Advice?

Re: Re: Network Connection issue

2012-11-12 Thread Karl Miller
I too have the D-Link DGE 530T C1 card in my system as eth0, but have a
slightly different issue. Running Ubuntu 12.04 patched up, and the card is
configured for IPv4 DHCP; however, it never gets an address assigned an
address and eventually flags itself as disconnected in Network Manager. If
I try to set the configuration manually, I cannot ping the gateway IP
address, so it's clearly not connecting.

I boot the same box off my Win7 Pro partitions (with the D-Link drivers
loaded) and it works fine with 100Mb/s connection on auto-negotiate.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Karl

One thing to think about is placement of the ctrl key. It gets used a

Yup. Both ext3 ext4 are built to be backwards compatible. The only
thing you lose by using ext2 is the journal. Well, you lose the ability
to handle the larger file sizes that ext3 ext4 support, but I'm not

Don't know what to tell you here. That error message typically means
that the mount command doesn't see the presence of the device you're
trying to mount (in this case, /dev/ad6s1). It doesn't look like it's
complaining about a non-supported file system type; it's complaining
that it doesn't see the device. You may see the device via other
methods that you're using to see the presence of it, but *mount* doesn't
see it for whatever reason. I'm assuming that when you do a ls -l on
/dev, you actually see a device called /dev/ad6s1

Question: What does your /etc/mtab file show for the /dev/ad4s3 mount?

In a Linux system, typically a IDE drive (PATA) would be referred to by
the system as /dev/hdx and a SATA or SCSI drive would be /dev/sdx. I
did some searching to find out about /dev/adx, and it's a BSD thing.
While doing that search I found that FreeBSD itself is supposed to have
some support for non-native (ufs, ffs) file systems such as ext; you'd
think that a Debian build would include that

One other question here, and sorry if you've already answered this, but
is there some specific reason why you want to run Debian with a FreeBSD
kernel instead of the standard Linux one? (Just a point of curiosity.)

Grub and Wireless Keyboard

2012-11-12 Thread Dr Beco
Dear us*x,

Last week my keyboard broke, and I bought a wireless set
keyboard+mouse that comes with a usb transmitter.

Yesterday I realize I can not chose an item from the grub menu during boot.

My other desktop has today a bluetooth keyboard, that also do not
work. My old machine has a PS/2 mini-dim that doesn't fit on the
others also.

So, unless I spend more money to buy a keyboard just to use once a
year to boot a different item in grub menu, or lend a keyboard from a
neighbor, I cannot boot other options for now.

Hopefully, I don't need... :) I deleted windows partition a while ago
(more than I can recall).

But, still... Is there any solution? Maybe something to add grub a
functionality?

Specially, the wireless keyboard, I think it should work. After all,
it is just a USB keyboard from the system's perspective, isn't it?

Thanks!
Beco

Problem configuring multiples monitors

2012-11-12 Thread Dr Beco
Dear un*xrs,

I have wheezy installed in a DELL vostro that I use to teach. I'm
having trouble disconnecting the projector each time.

When I connect it on the VGA output, it pops up a system settings
(KDE style) window that asks me to configure it. That is ok.

The problem arises when I disconnect. The same window appear again. I
tell the system that the computer now has only the standard monitor,
the size and resolution I want. But after clicking OK, and accept, the
monitor acts in strange ways.

Menus and windows appears delayed, only after an update of the screen.
Let me explain: I click on K menu, but it do not appear. But I know
it is already there. So I click in the supposed position where the
turn off button is, and than the K menu appear. But now, I know
the K menu is NOT there. Instead, I know the little confirmation
window to turn of the computer is at the center of the screen. So I
try to click on that invisible button and the KDE logoff sound is
heard. Now the computer starts turning itself off.

Very annoying.

Anyone else having this problem? Is there a bug reported I don't know about?

Thanks!
Beco

Are you able to use that keyboard before grub? By example, to go in
BIOS setup...

If not, so your keyboard could be more than a simple usb keyboard.
If yes, I guess that grub have the problem, and I have no idea about
how to fix it except using another boot loader (lilo or syslinux, by
example).

Maybe UEFI versions of boot loaders could help also. Not sure about
that thought, I have not wireless things here (I have heard of enough
friends running out of power in the middle of a game to avoid that, even
if I do not really play often now... I can use my computer without
mouse, but not without keyboard).

lost/dup nodes on 1, none on the other

Question: What does your /etc/mtab file show for the /dev/ad4s3 mount?

 [root@opty165a:/etc, Mon Nov 12, 05:22 PM] 824 # cat mtab
 /dev/ad4s3 / ufs rw 0 0

 /dev/ad4s1 /boot ext2fs rw 0 0
 [root@opty165a:/etc, Mon Nov 12, 05:23 PM] 825 #

The installer made me format the root partition as UFS, I tried ext2/3,
it wouldn't let me proceed I don't know if that's a clue or not,
who knows I know almost for certain that the *BSD's do not support
ext2/3/4 for writing, only for reading, I don't know why (I'm an end
user, not a kernel hacker), so I am uncertain if the kfreeBSD does in
fact fully support ext2/3/4 for full use

Ok, try this just for grins. Edit your /etc/mtab file, and add the
following line:

/dev/ad6s1 /mnt/ad6s1 ext2fs ro 0 0

(I'm following your example from ad4s1; ordinarily with a Linux kernel
that would just be ext2). Also, you can try rw instead of ro if
you want to see if it can write - again, since your (I'm assuming
working) entry for ad4s1 has rw on an ext2 file system. Then as root
do a mount /mnt/ad6s1 and see if that mounts the partition. If it
does, then a ls -la /mnt/ad6s1 should show you the contents.

One other question here, and sorry if you've already answered this, but
is there some specific reason why you want to run Debian with a FreeBSD
kernel instead of the standard Linux one? (Just a point of curiosity.)

I have installed *BSD's at various times in the past, I always noticed
the admirably small RAM footprint the austere # of system process
running around. The CentOS 5.7 that was powering this system before its
root drive croaked had 250-ish processes running just keeping itself
organized (runlevel 3, X, no desktops, NFS, Samba, whatever else it
wanted, I did no customizing of the install), was using 600-700 MB of
RAM (free -m), w/ only 2 GB on the system (older mbd, stuck at 2 GB). I
had OpenBSD on there a couple of years ago, admittedly w/ no NFS, also
no '-rw' support for ext2/3/4, which is why I went to CentOS, but is was
using about 40 MB of RAM, about 30 processes total. This install is
similar so far, only about 30 processes total, 125-ish MB of RAM
Still no NFS Samba, which will no doubt bump up those totals, but
still I used to run SGI's, Octanes, IRIX 6.5.30, they only had
about 60 processes total for the OS, w/ desktop, NFS, Samba, etc., about
40 MB of RAM used I like lean light when it should be that way
  it's a fetish

In my currently playing around with Debian 6.0.6, I personally don't
find it to be all that fat, but I guess that's just me - to each their
own, I guess. :-) However, your particular fetish in this case may well
keep you from accessing those partitions - at least, for now One
thing of note I found at Wikipedia (ya, I know... :-) ) was the following:

The Debian GNU/kFreeBSD base system is fully functional, but there
still a few major bugs that need to be fixed and packages that need to
be ported to the system. The kfreebsd-* ports of Debian were included
with Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) as a 'technology preview'.

This may be one of the few major bugs that they refer to. And if it
truly *is* in a technology preview state, I expect there will still be
things missing - this may well be among those things. Guess we'll get a
good idea if the mount suggestion I make above doesn't work. :-)

it is just a USB keyboard from the system's perspective, isn't it?

Look for a BIOS setting involving USB and 'legacy' that would treat the USB
kbd/mouse as though they were legacy wired units.

Unfortunately, if such settings are available but not set, there is no
way to set them with a wireless keyboard. Or am I missing something?

I'm currently struggling to configure a box without a keyboard or
display, and wondering if a wireless keyboard would work for me

Re: Help netbooting a diskless, headless system

2012-11-12 Thread Neal Murphy
Does your box have a serial port? Can it be configured to display the BIOS
screen on the serial port? Can Debian be installed using a serial port? That
is, connect a null-modem serial cable between the box to be installed and some
other computer and use minicom (Linux) or Hyperterm (Win).

Or put the hard drive into another regular computer, install there, then move
the drive back to the target box. And (1) enable a getty on /dev/ttyS0 and (2)
add 'console=ttys0,115200' to grub. The only oddity you should encounter here
is that the target box's NIC won't be eth0; this results from how udev works,
but it can be changed if desired.

Grub0 can be configured to poll both the VESA console and a serial port, then
use whichever gets the first keystroke (or time out and use the selected
default). I don't know how (or if) Grub2 handles this situation. So if the box
has no drive and no VESA console and you cannot redirect the BIOS to a serial
port, you'll be blind until grub starts.

Another possibility. Check if the system has a compact flash socket. If so,
you could effectively install a /boot to it with a custom initramfs that
contains enough command line tools (and libs) to run a fairly minimal 'live'
system in RAM; this might take a 100-300 MiB. As it boots, it can mount the
rest of what it needs over the net. My firewall has a smallish initramfs
(30MiB compressed CPIO, about 100MiB in RAM). It's a fairly fully usable
environment with a real init and a few real tools with busybox handling
others; I made it to ease debugging the install process. It works well on
standard computers and works well on headless systems like the Lanner 7530 and
7539 network appliances using a serial console.

You *can* do what you want, but it requires you to roll up your sleeves and
get up to your elbows in slimy bits. But then, Debian might have something for
this already. The hard part will be to redirect the install session to a
serial port.

Dear berenger.morel,

Yes, I can use the keyboard to enter DEL and navigate BIOS settings!
Good debug eye you have.

Dear Neal,
Thanks for the tipo. I enabled USB Keyboard, USB mouse and USB legacy.

Now I can navigate grub menus.

Thanks,
Beco.

Okay, I loaded up debian-kfreebsd in a VM.

When I tried the commands you gave above I get the same error. Also if I
try '-t ext3fs' I get the same error. However, with '-t ext2fs',
everything works as expected.

This test, and the fact that there is no reference to ext3 in man
mount, leads me to believe that ext3 is *not* supported in
debian-kfreebsd. You should be able to mount the filesystems as ext2,
but you will lose the journalling capabilities of ext3.

Cheers,
