Re: I have an Openoffice question for small business.
I have done a list off complains in my Oo users. I had worked out almost all of them, but there is a really bad issue about file load speed. The accountant department have a set of (very) large files which are used to calculate salaries to all employees. I already told them that is suboptimal in the very best case and dangerous in the worst scenario. In Ooany of that set of files loads in 15 sec in average. In Lo it loads in about one minute. I guess they are right about such load time performance. I suppose my best shot is to wait until Lo improves. In the meantime I talk to them. Sometime we, IT guys, have to do some psychoanalyst work. Jah. When I have news... I'll let you know. Thanks for all your suggestions and advices Zeke PD: again. Forgive my English. Thanks to all for your replies. I am actually pinning OO in order to use oldstable versions. I guess I will try to compile it an make my own repos. You were very helpfull. I have an Openoffice question for small business.
Hi all: I am Sysadmin at a small business. We have a complete mail-web-vpninfrastructure and my boss is happy with it. I guess we are a successful case of open software use in the "real world" But -of course, there is always an issue- my users keep complaining about OpenOffice migration to Libre Office. They even complain if I change OO from3.2 to 3.3. I believe there were major changes in that version. The question is: Is there any way of freezing OO version indefinetly? I am currently using oldstable OO but I guess my time is going short. What will happen when they release the new version of debian? I don't know what to do... Thanks in advance for any advices. ATI Propietary driver install in Debian Wheezy (Xorg downgrade to a working previous version)
Hi all: Searching in the Internet I've found a way to make ATI propietary driver work under Wheezy. Of course, it implies to downgrade Xserver to a version prior to 1.12. Now I can wait fglrx 12-5 (wich is supposed to work under the new XOrg. ### All credit belongs to "negafon" from linuxquestions.org, I just added a last step that will be needed if you don't have your kernel development kit installed and shared his solution 1-First, you must add the repos to dowgrade Xorg *deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20120515T220710Z/ wheezy main deb-src http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20120515T220710Z/ wheezy main* Tat's a snapshot from May 15, 2012 at 10:07PM 2-Create the file /etc/apt/preferences.d/60xorg_rollback.pref *Package: xserver-xorg* Pin: origin "snapshot.debian.org" Pin-Priority: 1001 * This makes the priority of "snapshot.debian.org" repos for xserver-xorg package higher than any other, so it will install the version desired 3- In order to prevent apt check the date in the repos (this mechanism prevents accidental installation of older software), we create a file called /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/60ignore_repo_date_check *Acquire { Check-Valid-Until "false"; } * 4- We make the changes and downgrade xserver-xorg package as root:* # apt-get update # apt-get dist-upgrade* 5- Finally, download the ati propietary driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx and run # sh ./amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run If you don't have your kernel headers installed, you will need to install them with the good old *# aptitude install linux-headers-$(uname -r)* If the driver doesn't compile properly, you can have a look at /usr/share/* ati*/fglrx-*install*.*log* If you still have problems with kernel dependencies, the "rude" way to install all necessary packages is * # aptitude install module-assistant # m-a update # m-a prepare *I hope you find this useful as I did. The original post from linuxquestions can be found at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-hardware-18/how-do-i-get-my-fglrx-driver-back-946102/ I must apologize for my limited English writing, I hope you'll understand this limitation. Hello, In Gentoo, the iptables package installs a simple script in /etc/init.d/iptables that is capable of saving and restore a set of iptables using iptables-save and iptables-restore. The superblocks are updated, starting with linux 2.4 and changing the config file /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf to reflect the devices as seen from linux 2.6 (hdc -> sda, hdd -> sdb) updated the superblocks upon stop (when halting the computer). Any alternative to netscape for gnome ?
*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro* Another question, I use gnome, and I would like to know if there is any other browser with at least JavaScript suport for GTK that does not need/use the mozilla engine, something more "native", more gnome/gtk dependent. Thanks in advance and excuse my english
Which are the packages for Navigator ?
*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro* Hi, I downloaded the first potato CD image and installed it, I have no chance to download the other two CDs, so I tried searching for the netscape navigator packages in the Debian site (I just want the web browser, not the entire comunicator suite), but I get a large list of packages in the resulting search page including the word "navigator" on their name. Are all those packages needed ? There are some of them that seem to belong to diferent versions (4.5, 4.7 etc) And there are "base" packages, "motif" packages and so. Could anybody tell me which are the ones I should download for a minimal instalation of navigator ?
Where to get icewm default themes
Hi, I downloaded and installed icewm but it comes only with its default theme, I remember having seen it in the slink CD with some themes like OS2, FVwm, motif, ... etc. I thought they would come has part of the icewm package since they are the simplest among ice themes (compared to the very sofisticated ones in the themes site), all I need is someone that uses icewm please tell me where to look for these themes. thanks.
newbe's question about mount points
I'm new to Debian, and I've noticed that in this distro /floppy and /cdrom are not placed inside /mnt as in RedHat. Can someone explain me why ? Isn't /mnt the directory for temporary mount points in most UNIX systems as the Linux Filesystem Structure describes it in http://www.pathname.com/fhs/1.2/fsstnd-3.7.html ?
