Backup requirement
My backup requirement is as follows: Old laptop, for personal use, running Debian Etch. I intend to backup every month to DVD via my external DVD writer, and to leave copies with friends. I want encryption. I use LUKS, but only for my home partition. My hard drive is 80 giga-bytes big. My partitions are home, root, alternate root, a data partition, and a Windows NTFS that I have not used in years :-) Current solution is to cp --archive the home partition into an external hard drive. I use GenISOImage and Wodim to burn my data CDs. Also, I prefer CPIO to Tar, and command-line to GUI. I am looking at Mondo http://www.mondorescue.net/, etc. Kindly give suggestions. -- Masatran, R. Open HTML file with OpenOffice in Gnome
I just completed installing installing Debian Etch I386 on an AMD64 computer. A Gnome user needs to edit HTML with OpenOffice, so I right-clicked on one HTML file, and set it to open with OpenOffice. But double-clicking does not start OpenOffice. Nor does it give any error message. Currently, I told the user to start OpenOffice, and open the file with its file dialog. The user's home directory contains material from previous installations, specifically Debian Lenny, Debian Etch, and maybe Ubuntu 5.10 or 6.06 LTS. Replacing server.cfg with a backup copy solved the problem. Mr. David Watson: Could you make the package ask the user before replacing the configuration file? Thanks! If you still have the broken server.cfg could you check what was different. I'd like to find out if it was only one config value that changed or if you were somehow given a default server.cfg. The package install scripts for ntlmaps read your current configuration and store values in debconf, so if there is a difference one of the values may not be getting stored properly. NTLM APS not working after upgrade of Testing
I upgraded my Debian Testing system just now, using sudo aptitude upgrade, and my local NTLM proxy server ntlmaps, which was working till then, has stopped working. I guess the problem is because of the upgrade. telnet localhost 8080 (8080 is the proxy port) says Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused Also, sudo aptitude dist-upgrade wants to remove linux-kernel-headers, and some other packages.
