Candidate Solution Let getmail, in the POP3-over-SSL instance, retrieve messages from the server and queue in an mbox file. Run qpopper to allow the MUA to retrieve from the mbox on demand. Questions 1. Rather than getmail and qpopper, can one software do this task? If so, which is recommended? 2. The documentation for qpopper suggests that it can only acquire messages from a spool. Line wrapping and message retrieval in Icedove.
Two elementary questions about Icedove usage. Answers are not obvious in Account Settings or in Preferences or with Google. Can the length at which a line is wrapped automatically be adjusted? I'm inclined to set the auto-wrap length to infinity. Auto-wrapping is particularly troublesome when it breaks a URI. For almost every message, there is a notice that the header was retrieved and not the body. A click on a link is required to see the message body. Can the criteria for direct retrieval and display of the message body be adjusted? Say for example, show every message up to 5 kB in size. Thanks, ... OpenVPN server mode usage?
Folk, For several years OpenVPN has provided a reliable tunnel between two machines, Dalton and Joule. Ref. http://142.103.107.138:80/NetworksPage.html Dalton has a static address. Joule has a dynamic address, usually available by reference to joule.yi.org. This depended upon a DDNS server at yi.org. Recently the DDNS server hasn't been updating and I've wondered about other configurations. One possibility appears to be for Dalton to run in server mode and for Joule to be an OpenVPN client. So I'm thinking to remove option remote joule.yi.org and add mode server in the configuration file on Dalton. No such thing as mode client. Is a client connection profile necessary on Joule when there is only one server? Any comments or criticisms or suggestions before I blunder further? Thanks, ... answer button in Skype client
Folk, In Skype 2.0.0.68 in Xfce4 in Lenny with kernel 2.6.24-1-686 a click on the answer button fails to open an incoming call. This happens on an IBM NetVista 6578-RAU and not on another generic machine. Usually I am able to call back but the problem certainly wastes time and aggravation. Folk, This document, http://newbiedoc.berlios.de/wiki/Sound_in_Debian_GNU/Linux#Some_applications_.28OSS_applications.29_produce_no_sound_in_AL; in revision 1.2, 27th November 2007 states, ... What is the distinction between devices 0 and 1? About two months ago, around the time I upgraded from etch to lenny, the headset stopped sending sound from the microphone. Then about a week ago, around the time of a kernel update, the headset stopped bringing sound in also. The headset has no problems on a lenny machine at home. Re: Failure of Ethernet link with Belkin adapter Netgear hub.
Douglas, Brian and anyone else interested, dt Can other boxes/NICs get 100 Mb/s across the AT hub? Perhaps the AT hub is only 10 Mb/s. The AT-3612TR is one of earliest 12 port hubs on the market. It is 10base-T, half duplex; 100 Mb/s across it is out of the question. Clarification The question is not why is communication across the AT-3612TR limited to 10 Mb/s? but rather why does communication fail without the the AT-3612TR acting as filter? The Netgear hub supports 100 Mb/s on the upstream LAN connection and with a NetVista 6578-RAU using the original IBM NIC. As explained in a message to Brian, I've checked the cables. The problem is not a broken cable or use of a cross-over where a patch belongs. I have the original Belkin documentation. There is no mention of the significance of the three states of the light, red, amber, green. Considering the messages which spew to the console at times and the observation that the connection works when filtered by the AT-3612TR, my first guess is that the Belkin is not negotiating the link properly. I suppose that either the Belkin hardware or the Pegasus driver is at fault. A sample of the console messages is visible. http://carnot.yi.org/PegasusMessages.jpg The only meaning for me is that a bug report against the Pegasus driver might be in order. Thanks, ... Failure of Ethernet link with Belkin adapter Netgear hub.
Folk, If an Etch system is connected to the 'net _via_ a Belkin Model F5D5050 USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter, an old AT-3612TR hub and a Netgear DS104 hub, communication works at 10 Mb/s, half duplex. The light on the Belkin adapter is green. If the AT hub is removed and the Belkin adapter is connected directly to the Netgear hub, its 100 Mb/s link light goes on while the Belkin light goes amber. ethtool reports 100 Mb/s, half on the adapter but communication fails. Can anyone say whether this more likely a problem with hardware or a problem with the Pegasus driver which runs the Belkin adapter. In the second case, I suppose a bug report is warranted. rotating a rectangular image in Gimp
