Are all the logs similar? The call trace in that log seems very short. Is this a new install or did you have a previous working setup? Trying newer and older kernels is probably a good first step. If a newer kernel works the problem has already been fixed. If an older kernel works it's a regression and you, or someone else, can bisect it. You might want to run through a full test of Memtest86+ a couple of times, just to rule out hardware problems even though it's unlikely. You might also want to removing as many variables as possible. The screen is partly restored (some windows > are > semi-transparent for effect) and I cannot go to single-user mode via > key > presses either. The very short answer is that new hardware tends to require new software. Try upgrading to new kernel/Xorg driver/mesa. (You might want to try out using a live cd/usb first). You might also need new microcode updates, I'm not sure if they are pushed for the updates for jessie. The same thing goes for bug reports, if you can't reproduce the problem with the latest software they tend to not be very interested. -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 6FAB5CD5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

I doubt it needs it, it wouldn't be in Debian main if it did. But it looks like it is set on later kernels: $ grep RBTN /boot/config-4.4.0-1-amd64 CONFIG_DELL_RBTN=m So you just need to wait for it to hit stretch, or grab it from unstable! -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 6FAB5CD5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

(Even with a backported kernel, you're not likely to get the GPU running without new Mesa, and possibly xorg driver) There seems to be quite a few reports of running Linux on the Y700. E.g. http://mashu.github.io/2015/12/19/Debian-Ideapad-Y700.html If you're fighting with wpa_supplicant doesn't that mean that the driver is working? Can you scan for access points? Can you connect to an unprotected network? -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 6FAB5CD5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

In unstable (and possibly testing) palm detection (ignoring the touchpad when typing) is enabled by default if you're using xserver- xorg-input-libinput On stable (or at least in older GNOME releases) there used to be a setting to turn on something similar for synaptics (but I don't think it worked very well). If your DE doesn't have a similar option you'll probably have to configure syndaemon yourself. -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 6FAB5CD5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Okay, if we can rule that out I would figure out exactly what sound chip your hardware's got and see if there are any known issues. It might be that jessie is too old. This looks like a good start: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/HDAGeneric It might just be easier to get a live cd/usb with the latest kernel and latest alsa and see if there's any difference. -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 6FAB5CD5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

God knows what, but also may-be one of > you. From what I can tell from Google, avidemux comes in both GTK+ (2.x?) and Qt flavours. If you got it from deb-multimedia it's probably qt4, so you'll probably need to figure out how to set the fonts with something like qt4-qtconfig? I'm not sure why your other users don't have the same problem, but maybe you are running different desktop environments? At least that's my be best guess, I always reserve the right to be totally and utterly wrong ;) -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 6FAB5CD5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
