Hi sergioyraul

You may have problems installing from debian-live CDs - they are not as
well tested. They are also a significant size to download as one file and
are almost unusable on i386 because they require very significant RAM usage.

If you can do a first install from Debian media:

[If you have good network bandwidth and can download packages from the net]

https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/images-including-firmware/11.3.0+non-free/amd64/iso-cd/firmware-11.3.0-amd64-netinst.iso

This is the 64 bit [For Intel/AMD] netinst.iso - it's a relatively small
download at 472MB. It does mean that almost all of the packages will need
to be downloaded from the internet.

Alternatively, there is a DVD sized image if your network bandwidth is
slow. This does mean that you have to download a 4GB file.

https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/images-including-firmware/11.3.0+nonfree/amd64/iso-dvd/firmware-11.3.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso

If you are installing via WiFi, then the installer should pick this up.

In the parent directory, there are links for torrent files.

Hope this helps.

With every good wish,

Andy Cater

When you say "we", do you mean "my coworkers and I", or do you really
mean "you all", meaning you would like someone else to package it?

If it's the former, you can get started on learning to create Debian
packages by following the New Maintainers' Guide, at
. Once you've read that and
taken your first baby steps, if you need additional guidance, there's
an IRC channel named #packaging on OFTC which I'm told is a good place
to ask for help. I've never been there myself.

If it's the latter, you might wish to state the request more explicitly,
so that people know what you actually want. And... uh... good luck.

If you want to backup/restore to/from Google Sync, you just can use a
simple Gnome backup tool like Deja-dup (I have verified, it is present
in PureOS repositories)

 https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/DejaDup

Non need to add a PPA, install google-drive-ocamlfuse or whatever...

Further,
- PureOs is not Debian even if it is based opon it: you would have
better support inquiring the PureOS community thant the Debian one
- PureOS is not Ubuntu: I do not know exactly the situation but chances
are that PPA repositories are no better supported in PureOS than in Debian

  https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2021/04/msg00412.html
)

In summary plus my own two cents:

The root of the problem is the apparent failure of
  sudo apt install google-drive-ocamlfuse
to install a command "google-drive-ocamlfuse" in reach of the shell.

The lengthy message after
  timdanielson@td546:~$ google-drive-ocamlfuse ~/mount/google-drive
stems from a helper program named "command-not-found" which gets triggered
by the shell because "google-drive-ocamlfuse" was not found.

Debian is said be in charge of the crash of "command-not-found".
It seems to be known since a while and has been worked on recently:
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=943989

But "google-drive-ocamlfuse" is not in Debian.

I would expect that the Ubuntu community is more able to debug why the
installation of google-drive-ocamlfuse from PPA failed.
Another approach would be to follow the advise at the bottom of
  https://github.com/astrada/google-drive-ocamlfuse
to open an issue with that problem.

Have a nice day :)

Bash has a feature that permits the creation of a function named
command_not_found_handle. If such a function exists, then instead of
giving the simple, traditional "bash: foobar: command not found"
message, bash will instead execute that function.

unicorn:~$ foobar
bash: foobar: command not found
unicorn:~$ command_not_found_handle() { echo "I'm a little teapot"; }
unicorn:~$ foobar
I'm a little teapot

Apparently the intent of this is to make the user's life better, but in
practice I'm not sure that's how it usually plays out.

I believe Ubuntu installs such a function in every user's bash sessions
by default, and uses it to try to tell the user which package they would
have to install to get the command they were trying to use. In some cases,
I can see how that might be useful. But sometimes, a command isn't found
because the user made a typo, or because the user has absolutely no clue
what they're doing, and then the results are just confusing.

I was going to snidely inquire who in their right mind would create an
executable called 'command-not-found', but then:

curty@einstein:~$ apt-cache show command-not-found

...

Description-en: Suggest installation of packages in interactive bash sessions
This package will install handler for command_not_found that looks up
programs not currently installed but available from the repositories.

Does this mean if you type 'blender' (a package available in the repositories)
at the command line and don't happen to have blender installed,
'command-not-found' will somehow intervene to suggest installing it? (Question
purely rhetorical (unless you'd want to answer it).)

Which distribution is this for? At a guess, Ubuntu since that's what is shown
on screen and _most_ PPAs have been created for Ubuntu.

Contact Alexander Strada is the only advice, I think, if it doesn't work as
a package. You run the risk of creating a FrankenDebian - a mixture from all
sorts of distributions which is almost always a problem in itself. In this
instance, one package may be relatively easy to fix.

command-not-found also exists in Debian. It looks at the command you're trying
to run - if the package isn't installed, it offers to help you install the
package.

The command given above is the command that initialises command-not-found
database so it is hightly likely that this will work to update an existing
database and fix the problem for you.

It appears that PureOS is a derivative of Debian. That means
that the people responsible for PureOS changed Debian to suit
their needs. Nobody outside of PureOS's maintainers and users is
familiar with what they changed, so Debian users can only offer
you limited help.

It looks like PureOS doesn't have a mailing list or forum for
their users, only a wiki and a bug tracker at:

In this case, there appear to be two issues:

Creating that directory is unlikely to a problem in and of

This is not a problem with google-drive-ocamlfuse itself, though
problems there might exist. This is a problem with a package
literally called "command-not-found", which PureOS installed.

You might fix this problem with

sudo update-command-not-found

or that might not help.

I did not encounter this issue myself, so I cannot tell for sure, but
some posts I have been reading seem to suggest that modifying the
permissions of the file /etc/apt/trusted.gpg might help with this. It
seems that on Jessie this file's permissions are 0600 (meaning only
owner (root) may read and write this file) whereas in stretch it should be
0644, which means that the owner (root) can read+write and group
may read the file.
So my suggestion: change the permissions of /etc/apt/trusted.gpg and try
again and tell us if this helped.

Regards

Michael

At 3:00 Moscow time worked like normal. Tonight is not responding. The
real situation is this - the server is running, noise and flash the
network card, but when I try to see something on the screen says that
there is no video signal. All contacts tightly. The graphics card and
processor were recently thermo missed the mark. In case of overheating
the computer just shuts down. A black screen is flashing NIC and
Apache2.2 not ale. This successful attempt to attack?

Hi,

What you describe sounds like a kernel panic, and/or a possible hardware
problem.

It might be an attack, but it's much more likely a bug in the kernel, a
bug in a driver for your hardware or hardware
overheating/malfunctioning.

After rebooting see if there's anything in the log files. You can follow
this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash

Hope this helps,

 1second=1000milliseconds
 1millisecond=1000microseconds

 so,I think it so be:
-i --interval wait (uX for X microseconds, for example -i u1000)
--fast alias for -i u1 (100 packets for second)
--faster alias for -i u1000 (1000 packets for second)
--flood sent packets as fast as possible. Don't show replies.

That seems sensible to me (additionally, I'd use packets per second).
Report it as a wishlist bug against the hping3 package. For bonus
points, supply a patch.

2011-07-12 Thread Alishams Hassam
Probably not. The last I read on the issue MS changed their protocols
(again) so alot of stuff like audio/webcam isn't working anymore. This
happened sometime after amsn's last release... and that was late 2010. Not
the most authoritative but someone's complained,
http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/index.php?topic=8292.0

It's very difficult asking people to switch something they've had a hard (or
long) time learning, but try to get your mom on something that's more open
than skype. Cause call me crazy but I don't doubt this type of thing will
stop in the proprietary world any time soon.

I googled 'debian sound' and several potential helping sites were suggested.

Note that just giving the model of laptop does not tell anybody what
sound card you have. So, first search for a solution before asking the

Debian is pretty user friendly, but the user really needs to consider
all of the documentation out there (eg., how-to's, man pages, etc.).

Decide what you want to do (eg., watch movies, play mp3s, do taxes,
etc.) and then start searching for help. Actually Debian's homepage is
probably a good place to start reading. It takes some getting used to,
but after a short while it'll be no problem.

The one thing that can get rather annoying is when someone asks for
help on this list when the solution to their problem is easily within
in virtual reach. Post to this list as a last resort with as much info
as you can provide (eg., system, machine, what you've tried, etc.).

Hi,

don't consider me as being arrogant, there are few things you need to
do to get help here (I learnt the hard way too)

a. please include the mailing list as well in all your emails. there
are others like you who can benefit as well.

b. this mailing list follows 'bottom posting' and does not appreciate
'top posting'

c. read what has been suggested thoroughly...

to answer your questions, in the link i gave you

(http://debian.org/support#web) this lists very good starting points.

Trimming [1], ie. cutting of unneeded content in replies is also
generally prefered.

As is inline replying [2].

Use common sense to make it as simple as possible to others to read your
post. Most people on this list have the thread present (either in their

the whole conversation over and over again (as is common practise in

Most people just hit reply button and top post leaving prior message

 Hello sir,
I am Santhosh, I having sony vaio model laptop, is able to
install Debian 5 (DVD format iso files) in my laptop?
Why I am asking meant, already I have tried Redhat 5 Enterprice (DVD) to my
laptop, it not accepted. That same Redhat 5 has booted in Desktop system.
 That's Y asking.

If Red Hat 5 couldn't, so do CentOS 5.

Otherwise, please send me the link to download Debian 5 version suitable
for my laptop. I like so much working in Linux

Try Debian 6/testing/squeeze. you only need CD 1 for basic desktop
installation.

I think debian should work for your machine. is your CPU 64bit? generally it
should be, download the AMD64 iso to record the installation cd,
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-500-amd64-CD-1.iso
you do not need to record a dvd, for most of the installed packages will be
updated after you install.

Hello Santhosh,

Which version of Red Hat did you install? 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3?
Most of the red hat 5 versions don't have the latest drivers for the newest
Laptops, PCs, etc.
If you just bought that Sony Vaio or is a recent model, perhaps it would be
easier to install Linux using Ubuntu, which has a more updated driver
database and it's based on Debian.
Here you can download Ubuntu:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Nevertheless someone already pointed these URLs where you can download
Debian Lenny without a hassle:
http://www.debian.org/distrib/

Direct link, DVD version:
AMD64(if your laptop has more than 3GB of RAM):
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.0/amd64/iso-dvd/

i386(if your laptop has less than 3GB of RAM):
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.0/i386/iso-dvd/

There is also a CD version http://www.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/ of debian
but I personally recommend you to download the DVD version depending your
laptop's RAM(which I already explained before) which is easier for a newbie
to install.

Adios.

Why do you ask Debian. Ask PDL.

Doug.

Doug didn't mean to sound rude; that's just the nature of email sometimes.

What he means though is that Debian is not part of PDL; PDL has
apparently taken Debian software and put together a pen drive with it.
Not knowing anything about PDL (until you've mentioned it), most Debian
folks therefore can only guess at what might be causing your issues. For
example, one guess I can make is that you may need to feed the kernel
some parameter at startup, such as NOAPIC. But since we (as Debian
in general) don't know how PDL is constructed, Doug's advice is good
advice; see if you can find a support link on the pendrivelinux.com
site; that'll be more likely to provide you with the solution you need.
Sorry we're unfamiliar with PDL and probably can't be of much help.

If you have MD5 errors on the disk, it means the files on the disk are

except that I've heard numerous times on this list that the installer cd verification deal isn't that trustworthy, instead I've seen recommendations to try copying all files from the cd if you really want to verify everything's ok...or just go ahead with the install as if any files are actually damaged the installer will let you know or you'll be able to tell once you start using the OS... (and one must wonder why debian hasn't by now either tried to improve the accuracy of that part of the installer or just removed it due to all the confusion it's causing)

Well for all your time and trouble downloading and burning Debian images
you might try to just make the basic boot-installer disk and do the
install from the net. I faithfully made CDs of the Debian packages which
I have never used since once I figured out how to install from the
internet. Packages are easily updated and retrieved at will with apt-get
or dpkg tools too, so there is little need to keep hard-copies of them
around to collect dust.

 On both client and server.

You generate one key on the server and a different key on the client.

These keys have two parts, private and public. You take the clients
public key and add to to the servers allowed list, when you connect
with the client the first time the servers public key is sent to the
client and you are asked if you want to add the server to your list of
known hosts.

The complete 7000 lines of PuTTY printed documentation,

If you want to understand how SSH, all of what you mentioned above will not
be of any good. You need to understand the SSH protocol to know how it
works. You can read about it here:

http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/secsh-charter.html

But I can't find where they deal with having duplicate of the same
encrypted key

On both client and server.

If at any moment the encrypted key travels across the network through
the router/bridge,

Which has a private ip on the internet,

Then a cracker might sniff it.

So?

The main idea behind the invention of public key cryptography is to get rid
of all the problems associated with key distribution when using
symmetric/private key cyphers.

Generally speaking, in private key ciphers, you use the same key to encrypt
and decrypt messages. All you do is reverse the steps of the encryption
process itself, while using the same key, and you will get the original
message. In public key ciphers, yoh have only one function, which is used to
both encrypt and decrypt messages. However, you have two keys, each is the
mathematical inverse of the other. Each will decrypt messages encrypted with
the other key. You (usually the application) chooses one of those keys as
the private key, and the other as the public key which is distributed to
everyone.

In an SSH session, each of the SSH server and client exchange their public
keys with the other party. Then each party uses the public key of the other
to encrypt messages and send them over the unsecure connection. So, in your
case, if Putty is sending a message encrypted with the public key of the SSH
server, only the SSH server on the box you are connected to can decrypt that
message because its the only one who has/knows the private key.

PS: while you are at it, consider switching to firefox and ditching IE.

Please be patient, I'm pretty dumb for starters

Later it gets worse ;-)

Indeed, the default state of PuTTY is to use telnet when you first run
it, which is why the OP is having this problem
You have to make the effort to select SSH, you can then save the session

IMO it is also a good idea to keep telnetd permanently commented out of

Same for PuTTY.

By default PuTTY only wants to use SSH -- this is a good thing =)

So far I understand that both pc must have the same private key in order
to encrypt/decrypt data traveling over ethernet?

You don't need to copy anything -- your session key and PuTTY on XP
encrypts the message sent to the Debian server; which is decoded
automatically by the SSH daemon on the Debian side. The first time
you connect it will say Unknown host Do you want to add this sesson
permanently? If you have just set it up and basically trust it then
you say yes and you are done.

If you DONT trust it and want to copy the Debian key to known hosts
for PuTTY XP -- you just ned to read the PuTTY docs a little closer =)

SSH encrytion, similar to TLS, creates an end-to-end encryption
tunnel between the PuTTY app and the sshd on the Debian server.

Hello,

A few things:

1. Please use more descriptive subject lines. Hello! is a common
subject used by spam messages.
2. Your question is exceptionally vague; all we can ascertain is that
you have some sort of problem (i.e., you provide no error output).
3. This question is not related to Debian development, but rather is
more appropriate for the debian-user list, to which I have directed this

I use it myself for the most part, though occasionally I will use

Do you mean wajig? Just store its documentation in a file by

wajig -vv help wajig_doc.txt

Afterwards read its documentation by opening it in your favorite editor

gvim wajig_doc.txt

The documentation for wajig is very well written and easy to understand

You need a project, that you'll tenaciously work on until you complete
it. In the process, you'll encounter various problems. Learning how
to solve those problems will improve your understanding of Linux
and/or a programming/scripting language.

When you encounter these problems, first use Google and online
documentation to try to solve them. If that doesn't work, post
well-thought-out questions to mailing lists, and people will probably
help you as long as you're polite.

Hope this helps,
