Kernel 2.6.3 i810fb console crash after X logout
Hi, The console is good while booting. After logging in the X server and logging out and switching to console, the console display gets corrupted. Also while booting I am getting a white patch near the penguin logo. But disappears after a while. I am using grub for booting with the following options for i810fb video=i810fb:xres=800:yres=600:bpp=16:vram=2: hsync1=30:hsync2=55:vsync1=50:vsync2=120:mtrr But If I change to 1024x768 with the other options as the same, there is no such problem. Hola a todos En esta ocasión quiero comentarles un par de cosillas que me han sucedido con el mentado kernel. Sucede que hace algunos días les comente que instale sarge (el beta3 creo), inicie en el modo expert26. Obviamente me detecto casi todo y escogí el kernel 2.6.3 para que fuera el predeterminado. Bien, hasta aqui todo normal con mis X, xfce4 y mi gnome 2.6, todo esto en Sid. Sucede que por error descargue el kernel-image-2.6.7k7 (pues tengo un athlon) en lugar de un kernel-source-2.6.7k7 y ahi todo se fue a la goma. Reinicie el equipo y ya no pude entrar a las X, el error, no encuentra /dev/psaux (el del raton). Revisando logs, y /dev descubro que ya no existen los archivos /dev/ps* no hay ninguno. Por mas que le busque y el corto tiempo del que disponía decidi dejarlo por la paz. El sábado pasado decidí volver a instalar todo, pero sin instalar ningún kernel-image. Reinicie el equipo un par de veces para que todo funcionara de manera correcta. Así fue, así que decidí llevarme el equipo a la casa (todo esto lo hice en el trabajo) debido a un par de trabajos por hacer. Llego y cual no es mi sorpresa al ver que nuevamente no entra al modo gráfico. El problema, el mismo del anterior, no encuentra el ratón /dev/psaux, reviso de nuevo y lo mismo, no hay nada en los logs, se fueron todos los archivos /dev/ps*. Es un bug del kernel 2.6.3, hice otra instalación pero en modo expert nada más, actualice a sid, instale algunos programas y todo esta funcionando de manera normal. Alguien que me pueda orientar? Tendre que instalar todo nuevamente, pero con el kernel 2.4.26 (creo)? Bajo un kernel y lo recompilo? Gracias anticipadas. P.D. intente con modprobe psmouse (googleando un poco y me soluciona el problema pero momentaneamente, si reinicio el equipo vuelve a quedar igual) Saludos. -- Atte. Buenas, ¿probaste a poner psmouse dentro del archivo /etc/modules y reiniciar? Sólo es una idea, a mi me pasó algo parecido con la tarjeta de sonido. Con respecto al kernel yo personalmente prefiero compilarlo a mano ya que da como resultado un kernel mucho más pequeño y ligero. Ahora mismo estoy usando sid con el kernel 2.6.7 y va de lujo. Debian lo tengo instalado en sistema dual con Windows XP. ¿Tengo que volver a crear al archivo .bin que genere cuando originalmente instale Debian? Cuando instale Debian por primera vez ejecute el comando dd if=/dev/hda2 of=/mnt/floppy/linux.bin bs=512 count=1 (cambiando hda2) y copie este linux.bin a XP. Gracias a cualquier ayuda que se proporcione. Lo primero quiero que sepas que no has topado con ningún experto, y lo segundo que ahora mismo no puedo comprobar exactamente las cosas porque no tengo acceso a esa instalación de debian, pero: 1) Con un 95% de probabilidad me bajé el 2.6.5 en binario y, más tarde, las fuentes para recompilarlo para ver si podía solucionar un problema. Ahora tengo 3 nucleos disponibles para arrancar en linux: un 2.4 [OK], el 2.6.5 que bajé en binario [OK] y el 2.6.5 que compilé yo [Kernel Panic :)] 2) Para mi tienes lilo.conf perfectamente configurado (siempre que también conserves la entrada que te da opción a arrancar tu kernel antiguo ;) y también la entrada de Win XP) 3) Del comando ese que ejecutaste no sé nada. Cuando instale Debian por primera vez ejecute el comando dd if=/dev/hda2 of=/mnt/floppy/linux.bin bs=512 count=1 (cambiando hda2) y copie este linux.bin a XP. Kernel 2.6.3 i810fb Block Cursor
Hi, I've been using the i810fb in kernel 2.6.x with no problems on sarge. Below is the append line I used in Lilo; video=i810fb:vram:2,xres:1024,yres:768,bpp:16,hsync1:30,hsync2:55,vsync1 :50,vsync2:85,accel,mtrr (note: The hsync and vsync are not the actual values. I'm not at my system and can't remember what they are.) Last night I switched from using lilo to grub. everything went ok. I added the above to my grub config and rebooted. The console is fine except for one thing. I get what appears to be a block cursor in the middle of the screen. When I log in, the cursor stays in the middle of the screen until I hit enter, it then jumps to the bottom left. From then on it sort of follows what I type but not quite, it remains somewhat out of sync with where the cursor should actually be. I tried using 'hwcur' on the above but this didn't do anything. I'm using the same parameters that I used with lilo, yet I never had this issue. Apart from switching back to lilo, is there anything I can try to resolve this? Hola lista, veréis, tengo un problema al intentar instalar los lm-sensors, más concretamente cuando intento instalar las sources de i2c. Quake3 in kernel 2.6.3+
I am facing this peculiar problem under the following kernels: 2.4.25, 2.6.3, 2.6.4 I can compile the kernel and install it. Everything runs fine, including sound from programs like mpg321, xmms, mplayer, et al. Quake3 runs, display is fine, but no sound :-( I see a /dev/dsp borken pipe in the terminal window from where I have launched Quake3. The previous versions, 2.4.24 and 2.6.2 did not exhibit this problem. Anyone else facing such a problem? Zum Mausproblem: $ cat /proc/bus/input/devices I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0001 N: Name=PS/2 Logitech Mouse P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0 H: Handlers=mouse0 event1 B: EV=7 B: KEY=3 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 B: REL=3 Das ist wohl auch der Grund, weshalb ich /etc/init.d/gpm modifizierte. Zuerst muß isa0060/serio1/input0 über mdetect angesprochen werden, damit gpm sie über /dev/input/mouse0 einbinden kann (Handler). Ohne dies Aktivierung erkennt wiederum der xserver keine maus (/dev/input/mouse0 in XF86config-4), und startet nicht. Wenn Du die Maus mit gpm benutzt, dann solltest Du bei gpm ein geeignetes repeat protocol angeben und in XFree /dev/gpmdata verwenden. Es wäre schön, wenn mir jemand auf die Sprünge helfen könnte, zumal der 2.6.4-rc3 patch bei mir nicht kompiliert (ide-proc.c). Kernel 2.6.4 ist gerade gestern freigegeben worden, vielleicht geht es mit dem. Bei mir ließ er sich kompilieren. Der erste patch modifiziert den Kernel dass er eine externe DSDT nutzen soll, der zweite patch sagt dem Kernel dass er die externe DSDT in der initrd findet. Du kannst die DSDT aber auch in den kernel hereinkompilieren, dann brauchst Du keine initrd mehr. ### Ich unterstelle Dir mal dass Du nicht verstanden hast wie das mit dem custom DSDT funktioniert. Also: Es gibt nur ein einziges DSDT. Dieses DSDT ist im Firmware Chip des ACPI SubSystems gespeichert. Wenn Du Dein ACPI fähiges Rechnersystem einschaltest, fragt der kernel - sofern er ACPI nutzen soll - beim ACPI SubSystem des Rechners nach einigen Tabellen, unter anderem der DSDT. Daraufhin übergibt das ACPI-System die DSDT an den kernel, der die DSDT auswertet und dann in seinen eigenen Speicher legt. An dieser Stelle greift der patch ein. Wenn Du eine gefixte DSDT hast, so übernimmt der kernel die gefixte DSDT anstelle der DSDT von der ACPI Firmware. Die aktuell genutzte DSDT findest Du in /proc/acpi/dsdt. Wenn Du also einen Rechner hast von dem Du weißt das die DSDT kaputt ist ( ich unterstelle mal dass das bei 95% aller Rechner so ist) oder acpi mit Linux überhaupt nicht funktioniert, kannst Du die DSDT disassemblieren, fixen (ist nicht immer schwer) und neu kompilieren. Den kompilierten Output benutzt Du dann als Input beim kompilieren des gepatchten kernels ODER in der initrd. Ich habe grundsätzlich Deine Frage Gibts noch ein anderes? dahingehend fehlinterpretiert, als das Dir nicht bekannt ist, dass es durchaus die Möglichkeit gibt das Firmware DSDT zu übergehen. Meine Aussage das ich das nicht fixen kann, ging aber mehr in die Richtung, dass ich das DSDT des BIOS selber nicht fixen kann. Oder schraubst Du jeden Tag das BIOS um und flasht es dir auf den Rechner? Übrigens habe ich gestern (mit ATAPI Unterstützung) meine erste cd gebrannt, allerdings mit cdrdao (gepatchte version für ATAPI). Das ist ja schon mal was. Zum Mausproblem: [...] Wenn Du die Maus mit gpm benutzt, dann solltest Du bei gpm ein geeignetes repeat protocol angeben und in XFree /dev/gpmdata verwenden. Das werde ich auch mal probieren. So wäre wahrscheinlich eine kompatible Lösung zu 2.4.x möglich. (Jetzt schreibe ich jedesmal die XF86config-4 um, wenn ich den 2.4er benutzen möchte). Nein, aber es soll Hersteller geben die ein neues BIOS zum download bereitstellen wenn Du ihnen ein gefixtes DSDT zukommen lsst. Ich kenne aber keinen. Ich habe mich jetzt nach unserer Diskussion noch mal auf die Suche gemacht. Wenn man sich auf bugzilla.kernel.org den bug 1690 mal anschaut, knnte man meinen, das ist kein bug vom Compaq EVO n800w, sondern vom linux acpi. Der Fix dort soll das Problem beheben. Mit dem 2.6.4er Kernel geht jetzt alles (bis auf Scannen als normaler user und der nvidia Treiber und wahrscheinlich udf etc.). Übrigerns konnte ich nicht per patch auf 2.6.4 upgraden (2.6.3-2 sourcen und debian-patches) - Ich mußte von kernel.org die vollen sourcen ziehen (ide-proc.o ließ sich nicht übersetzen). Dank modconf fand ich auch endlich eine Möglichkeit psmouse beim Start zu laden #~/ . Ich weiß nicht, ob das Modul vorher auch schon fehlte, jedenfalls fror die Maus schön weiter am Bildschirm fest, nachdem ich den frischen 2.6.4er gebacken hatte. Nach einem modprobe psmouse fand sich plötzlich eine bewegliche Maus am Monitor (merkwürdig, dass x eine Maus findet, obwohl das modul fehlt??, sonst wäre er kaum mit gefrorener maus gestartet). gpm findet sie auch unter /dev/psaux. Super. Die seriellen Schnittstellen gehen /usr/src/linux/.config:1020:CONFIG_SERIAL_8250=y /usr/src/linux/.config:1021:# CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_CONSOLE is not set /usr/src/linux/.config:1022:# CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_ACPI is not set /usr/src/linux/.config:1023:CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=4 /usr/src/linux/.config:1024:# CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_EXTENDED is not set /usr/src/linux/.config:1027:# Non-8250 serial port support alsa geht. arts stürzt unter user ab, geht unter root. kcontrol/soundserver stürzt als user ab, geht als root ??? Echt nervig - Hat Da niemand eine Idee? nvidia klappt nicht. Da werde ich mal warten auf patches und neuen versionen für 2.6.4. No Screens found (ging sonst immer) Xsane findet leider auch nur als root den Scanner, der wie zuvor ansprechbar ist (Umax Astra 2000u, leider immer schon Streifen im Bild, die unter Windows nicht zu sehen sind). Da müssen mal die Rechte geprüft werden. To com o meu kernel 2.6.3 funcionando direitinho mas quando vou instalar o driver da Nvidia ele da a seguinte mensagem de erro: Unable to determine Nvidia kernel module filename. make: [select makefile] Erro 1 Isso já aconteceu com alguém, tem como resolver? qualquer ajuda é bem vinda, valeu!! Merhaba, Debian unstable kullanıyorum. Orjinal çekirdek 2.4.22-xfs idi. Bunu kpackage ile apt-get'leyip 2.4.24-1-k7 haline getirdim. Bu haliyle çalışıyordum. Şimdi 2.6.3-1-k7'ye yükselmek istedim (laptop power management desteği). Aynı şeyleri yaptım. Fakat yeni çekirdeği seçip lilodan boot ederken ilk yükleme yapılıp bios data succesfull gibi bir mesajdan sonra boş karanlık ekran halinde kalıyor. Hi, I'm using Debian sarge. Installing the latest kernel-2.6.3 image from Debian's repository, I get the following annoying messages flooded over my console. It, AFAIK, doesn't harm, but flood the complete screen. Mar 11 01:17:48 server kernel: printk: 3031 messages suppressed. Neighbour table overflow. A little bit of googling pointed me out to this: http://www.linuxgazette.com/book/view/509 Following the instructions, I enabled ARP Daemon Support in the kernel and installed arpd. I found out that I was trying to compile the drivers with a different version of gcc that my kernel was compiled with. Making sure that that both the nvidia drivers and kernel were compiled with the same version of gcc made the problem go away. You may have forgotten to load the appropriate module - I've noticed that 2.6.3 hasn't been as good at autoloading modules as 2.4 was. Try sd_mod and usb_storage. By the way, using udev is recommended when dealing with USB devices - this way the appropriate device files appear and disappear as you plug and unplug USB devices. This makes it easier to find the device you just plugged in. Hotplug startet bei mir ein Script das die Rechte des Devices richtig setzt wenn es angeschlossen wird und zwar unter /sys/bus/usb/devices/port/device. Über diese Schnittstelle greift libusb auf das Gerät zu. deshalb dort mal nach den Rechten sehen. Wo sich mir gleich die Frage aufdrängt hast du überhaupt sysfs unter /sys gemounted? Eine gruppe cdrecord gibt es jedenfalls auch bei mir. Bei Debian ist das schon für dir Gruppe cdrom vorkonfiguriert, aber eben nur, wenn Du ide-scsi verwendest. Ohne mußt Du die Gruppen der device-Files etwas anpassen. If I remember correctly: I added scanner to /etc/hotplug/blacklist (When I first configure it the scanner module was still there and I had compiled it with my kernel, it should not be necessary to add it now). Then in /etc/hotplug/usb/libsane.usermap I added a line for my scanner like the sample entry provided and replaced and by the values for my Epson 1240U. Lastly, I commented out the 'usb /dev/usb/scanner0' line I had added to the /etc/sane.d/epson.conf file and added a new line with simply 'usb' on it. First, thanks to all that helpd. Next, a small howto for references: For background, and to know what you are going to do, read /usr/share/doc/libsane/Readme.debian.gz and other Readmes in same directory. In the example that follows /dev/usb/scanner0 is used. You may need scanner1, or 2, ... 1. su (become root) 2. sane-find-scanner 3. Change line in /etc/hotplug/usb/libsane.usermap to reflect findings from step 2. 4. It is recommended to add your scanner to /etc/hotplug/blacklist to avoid having it recognized by the kernel. XMMS Error After Compile of kernel 2.6.3
Hello All, I've just compiled kernel 2.6.3 and have things running pretty well. However now when I try to start XMMS I get the following error: libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory ** Warning **: alsa_get_mixer(): Attaching to mixer hw:1 failed: No such device I've even removed XMMS with apt and re-installed it but I still get the error and I'm at a loss on what my next step would be. XMMS used to work fine before the new kernel was installed. I googled for the error as listed but was not very informative or for that matter not a lot of returns for this error. If you don't know what mods (in the music sense) are, I wouldn't worry about it. The second one is XMMS complaining it can't access the ALSA mixer. This could mean one of several things. 1) ALSA, or it's driver for your sound card wasn't compilied in, or as a module. Check your config. 2) You don't have permissions to access the devices. This shouldn't be a problem if it worked before. Check that you have permission to use the devices in /dev/snd/. If you followed standard Debian pratice, this means that you are part of group audio. 3) The various ALSA start scripts have buggered things up again. This seems to happen to me far too often. Have a look in /etc/init.d/alsa* and see what happens when you run them as root. It's most likely 1. Hier was ich bisher getan habe: Der Kernel sowie das gesamte System stammen aus unstable und wurden mit einem daily build des debian installer erstellt, ich verwende folgendes kernel-image: kernel-image-2 2.6.3-2 Daraufhin habe ich alsa-base sowie alsa-utils via apt-get installiert (libasound wurde mitinstalliert). Maus Probleme mit Kernel 2.6.3
Hallo Liste,
Ich habe Probleme die seriellen Schnittstellen unter kernel 2.6.3
richtig zu konfigurieren.
In der letzten Konfiguration bin ich mit
INPUT_MOUSEDEV_PSAUX_ENABLE=y
nicht zurechtgekommen. Es gab Meldungen wie device or recource is
busy, und der Mauszeiger fror unter X11 ein.
Ohne diese Option konnte der xserver die mouse nicht finden, und
startete nicht.
Ich mußte mit mdetect den Port herausfinden, und zuerst den gpm
benutzen, damit der xserver die mouse an der richtigen Stelle finden
konnte (/dev/input/mouse0).
/etc/init.d/gpm mußte ich folgendermaßen abändern:

Ich glaube, dass das auch anders funktionieren sollte, oder?
Ich hatte zuerst auch Probleme mit den seriellen Schnittstellen. Sie
wurden nicht richtig unterstützt, bzw. auf ttyS00 und ttyS01
konfiguriert (evtl. war irgendwas mit MANY_PORTS die Ursache unter
SERIAL_8250_EXTERNDED).
setserial /dev/ttyS0 ergab: no such device
