Well, I 'll see I've flashed my BIOS before and no harm has come of it (the board wouldn't recognise PC100 DIMMs otherwise) as well as my CD-Writer. Of course, it helps if you computer is old, like mine. There must be some sort of configuration file on the floppy disk -- have you tried mounting it? You could also try recompiling your kernel. This would allow you to place the necessary parameters in /etc/modules.conf instead of in LILO. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? problems with cdwriter on woody-system
Hi out there! I 've got the following problem: I built in a Plextor-CD-Writer in my Desktop-PC (with Woody on it) but the machine (kernel) do not recognize it. I put the following command-line into my /etc/lilo.conf append=hdc=ide-scsi and started lilo again but there is still something wrong :-( Some more infos from my server: dmesg | grep hdc brings the following: ide1: BM-DMA at 0xb808-0xb80f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio hdc: PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W5224A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdc: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, (U)DMA dmesg | grep scsi shows: request_module[scsi_hostadapter]: Root fs not mounted request_module[scsi_hostadapter]: Root fs not mounted i2o_scsi.c: Version 0.0.1 scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices cdrecord -scanbus (as ROOT) brings == Cdrecord 1.10 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jörg Schilling cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open SCSI driver. cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root. With modconf I already loaded the sg-module as well as the ide-scsi-emulation-module to the kernel (show lsmod-file in the attachment please) The strange thing is: when I started my server with the Knoppix-3x-CD (just for testing) - Knoppix finds my CD-Writer and all the other hardware with no problem, the cdrecord-scanbus-command brings no error, I could use the CD-Writer, so it cannot be a hardware-defect. Last info: I start my server with a floppy-bootdisc (as my Bios do not recognize my new 40GB-harddisc and I couldn't flash the bios till now). May this be the reason? Does the kernel on the floppy-disc NOT reading my /etc/lilo.conf from the harddisc? What can I do in this case?
