Hola He estado buscando algún programa para la Debian que resuelva bien esta cuestión pero no he encontrado muchos (lo cual me extraña) y los que he encontrado o eran difíciles de configurar o de instalar o había alguna pega. Para resolver los problemas básico de edición de audio tenes al Audacity que se encuentra en los repositorios. Nativamente trabaja con ogg, si le agregas lame (creo) también graba en mp3. Para normalizar el sonido anda muy bien. Tienes lo básico y mas para trabajar con sonido. No esperes que sea un soundforge pero por ahí anda. Añade la siguiente linea a tu sources.list. deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sarge main cambia 'sarge' por 'etch' o 'sid' según que uses. Por cierto, eso también te pone disponibles mplayer y acroread, entre otros. Creo recordar que se llamaba audacity, toda una virgueria el unico problemilla (si se le puede poner alguno) era que para trabajar los mp3 tenias que compilar tu aparte la libreria del lame (creo q era libmp3lame.so), pero amos una tonteria, se le compilaba y se le daba y todo genial, y para manejar el sonido es lo mejor que he probado, lo utilice para pasar audio de cinta a mp3, y con ese programa le reduje el ruido y la niebla tipica de las cintas, le subi el volumen y puse un par de efectos, todo muy facil e intuitivo -- ¡A mi señal, ira y fuego! Suponiendo que el paquete .tgz tiene un subdirectorio llamado debian con los archivos de control para crear el .deb, tienes que hacer dentro del directorio debian: ./rules build (para compilarlo) ./rules binary (para crear el paquete .deb) despues lo puedes instalar normalmente con: dpkg -i lame.deb Necesitas tener instalado el paquete dkpg-dev. El procedimiento es general, lo puedes hacer con cualquier fuente que tenga los parches para debian. Por ej: a veces yo bajo fuentes mas nuevas usadas en woody y los compilo para mi potato ( a veces no se puede). Me bajé el lame de sourceforge.net, y despues de hacer ./config, make y make install no fui capaz de utilizarlo, aquí hablas de pasarlo a .deb binario, me podrías indicar como lo puedo hacer?, hay alguna documentación al respecto? Hi, what's the command to convert .wav files to mp3 format? this is a dumb question 'cus I was doing it a week ago and after 3h with apropos,dpkg -l,apt-cache search,and ls /usr/bin |less, I still can't find it :( TIA, -Jon

I think MP3 is typically fixed bitrate, whereas Vorbis uses a variable bitrate. Clarification ogg does not seem to be installable without a lot of trouble on stable systems. Only on unstable, or perhaps testing. You moron, stop sending trojans over the mailing list that's not funny. For those of you that downloaded that program and got the nice fireworks display you also got the trojan implanted on yours system. What it does is extract certain files to the system directory and attaches a copy of itself to every message you send out. To get rid of it delete ska.dll and ska.exe in the system directory, it also does something to one of the winsock files, I cant remember which. it like copies its own in and renames the old one with either a .ska or a .old extension or possibly another. I'm pretty sure this Happy99.exe thing is a virus. I don't think it
is malicious, but a pain nonethless. In short, don't run it
(shouldn't affect Linux-only users, though :)

Another decent encoder is 8hz-mp3, at www.8hz.com. bladeenc is good, its a shame about 8hz-mp3, they got yelled at about patent infringements or some such, and had to remove the program from their site ..
