Bug#425731: Any updates?

2008-03-04 Thread Damyan Ivanov
-=| Amaya, Mon, Mar 03, 2008 at 08:28:11PM +0100 |=-
As you are aware of, #432233 is a Release Goal
 (http://release.debian.org/lenny/goals.txt - goal-recommends)
and #425731 is a blocker for this.

Can you report any progress on this ITP?

Thanks for the heads up. I hope to resolve this this month.

It seems that upstream is unwilling to thange the name and I am not
willing to fork, so we'll go with gbgoffice for the name no mater how
bad it sounds.

The package is ready and only needs to be reviewed for current policy
compliance etc.

Hey, Damyan!

That would be very nice. keep in mind the release freeze is schedueled
in only 6 weeks!

Q: Why did teh chicken cross the road?
A: Because upstream said so

;)

Yes, upstreams are sometimes very stubborn.

The package is ready and only needs to be reviewed for current
 policy compliance etc.

Again, let me know if tehre's any help needed here.

This has to be fixed asap, or gbgoffice will not be a part of Lenny.

Bug#468183: Unsupported?

2008-03-04 Thread Thorsten Schmale
I forwarded your question to the upstream developer. He will check that
in the code. But for now he suggested to leave the Mysql logging feature
out of the package.

I created an updated description. Please see below. One thing i
forgot to mention earlier was the feature of logging the http requests

feature is not supported by most other webservers.

 We've already got libapache2-mod-log-sql. (I wouldn't recommend using
it either, though.) Most web servers support SQL logging in some form
or other. There are also tons of converters to load Common Log format
 files into SQL databases.

Are you sure that MonkeyD logs requests containing ' characters
correctly? The source code doesn't look like it. (You may have to use
telnet/socket/nc manually, to prevent escaping from the browser.)

Bug#469278: ITP: Zeobuilder - An advanced molecular editor

2008-03-04 Thread Toon Verstraelen

Severity: wishlist

I'm the developer of Zeobuilder, and I have already packaged Zeobuilder for
Debian Etch. The Debian packages can be downloaded from:

http://molmod.ugent.be/code/static/download/debian/pool/p/

Almost all other packages in that directory are the dependencies of Zeobuilder
that are not part of Debian Etch. Note that I also created a python-gtkglext1
package that installs properly on Debian Etch. python-tracks is not a dependency
of Zeobuilder. I don't have much packaging experience, so there might be some
mistakes. The original sources can be downloaded from:

http://molmod.ugent.be/code/static/download/sources/

For more information, contact me by mail, or take a look at:

http://molmod.ugent.be/code/

Thanks for your consideration.

P.S. When Zeobuilder is included in Debian, will it be automatically become part
of derived distributions like Ubuntu?

It will be the replacement for libgmail: not all libgmail developers
out there want to rewrite their programs from scratch, so a new,
backward-compatible libgmail based on IMAP does make sense IMHO.

I'm cc-ing the author of both the older libgmail, and the new

into IMAP.

Bug#469353: RFH: request-tracker3.6 -- Extensible trouble-ticket tracking system

2008-03-04 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Summary: please test request-tracker3.6 from experimental and/or
help me with the normal package maintenance.

The Debian Request Tracker Group could use some help. Although several
people have been involved in the two years we have been working on
RT-related packages, I'm currently the only active maintainer, and I
have lots of other things to do too...

The most pressing need is for somebody to test request-tracker3.6
3.6.6-2~experimental1 I just uploaded into experimental. From
NEWS.Debian:

This version adds maintainer scripts for basic RT setup. The database
integration is done with the dbconfig-common package. The installation
procedure tries its best to import old configuration values on upgrades,
and all the resulting files are managed with ucf(1) so local modifications
  are never overwritten without permission.
  .
The most visible change is the addition of the
  /etc/request-tracker3.6/RT_SiteConfig.d directory. Configuration
snippets in this directory are concatenated together with the
  update-rt-siteconfig(8) command.
  .
Integration with the web server and the mail system are still
not handled automatically and require manual configuration for now.

I think the changes are pretty cool, and obviously they work for me
(modulo a couple of bugs in dbconfig-common related to remote database
handling). Then again, I've been playing with them so much that I'm
probably blind to many issues by now.

I'd really like to get these changes into lenny, but I'm not prepared
to upload into unstable without any test reports and comments.

Beside this, there's the usual bug triaging and the like. Upstream
responsiveness seems to vary, but we could certainly be better at feeding
our changes and bug reports there. Note that some really old open bugs
inherited from earlier RT versions are still relevant to 3.6, although
they are currently open against request-tracker3.4.

The package documentation in NOTES.Debian et al. could probably be
improved too, if somebody is so inclined... :)

The project is hosted as pkg-request-tracker on Alioth and the packaging
is at svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-request-tracker/ . I'll be happy to
add anybody interested in the group and help getting started, of course.

Cheers,

Upstream Author : Karsten Hilbert, Horst Herb and others
* URL : http://gnumed.org/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : medical practice management - server
This is the GNUmed Electronic Medical Record. Its purpose is
to enable doctors to keep a medically sound record on their
patients' health. Currently it is not fully featured. The
features provided are, however, tested, in use, and
considered stable. This package does NOT yet provide
functionality for billing and stock keeping.
 .
While the GNUmed team has taken the utmost care to make sure
the medical records are safe at all times you still need to
make sure you are taking appropriate steps to backup the
medical data to a safe place at appropriate intervals. Do
test your backup and desaster recovery procedures, too !
 .
Protect your data! GNUmed itself comes without
any warranty whatsoever. You have been warned.
 .
This package contains the PostgreSQL server part.
 .
Note: The package does currently _NOT_ build the GNUmed database
but just installs the needed SQL files. Please see README.Debian.

Remark: This package will be group maintained by the Debian-Med team.
Preliminary packaging stuff is available at

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/debian-med/trunk/packages/gnumed-server/trunk/?rev=0sc=0

The first upload will go to experimental because some things
regarding the creation of the PostgreSQL database have to be
sorted out first.

This package contains luarocks, a tool for managing rocks. A lua rock is a
bundle containing a module and some metadata like compilation instructions and
copyright. The command line utility luarocks can download, build, install
and remove rocks, properly handling dependencies among them and allowing
multiple versions of the same rock to coexist.
 .
The tool installs system-wide rocks in /usr/local when run by the
superuser, but a regular user can easily tune it to install rocks in his
 home directory.
 .
This package also provides the luarocks-admin tool, needed to create a rocks
repository, and the documentation for luarocks, describing the command line
tools as well as the library to manipulate rocks.

The package is already almost-in-shape at

Description : simple gstreamer based audio player

Yauap is a simple commandline audio player based on the GStreamer multimedia
framework. There is also a DBus interface that allows yauap to act as a
backend for the Amarok audio player. Yauap is free software.

Rationale:
Amarok dropped it's gstreamer backend[1] a while ago. Novell announced
out-of-the-box support for mp3 decoding[2] in Amarok and Banshee, which has
previously been lacking because of unlicensed mp3 patents preventing
distribution of such software. This brought my attention to the solution,
yauap
With yauap Amarok will be able to use the mp3 decoder plugin for gstreamer
which Fluendo has properly received patent licenses for. This way other
legally-questionable alternatives available in Debian can be avoided.
Anyone packaging this should probably be familiar with Amarok and work
closely with its maintainers.

Description : SMALL-based abstract machine (AMX) bytecode interpreter

Embryo is primarily a shared library that gives you an API to load
and control interpreted programs compiled into an abstract machine
bytecode that it understands. This abstract (or virtual) machine is
similar to a real machine with a CPU, but it is emulated in
software. The architecture is simple and is the same as the
abstract machine (AMX) in the SMALL language as it is based on
exactly the same code. Embryo has modified the code for the AMX
extensively and has made it smaller and more portable. It is VERY
small. The total size of the virtual machine code AND header files
is less than 2500 lines of code. It includes the floating point
library support by default as well. This makes it one of the
smallest interpreters around, and thus makes is very efficient to
use in code.

See also http://www.compuphase.com/small.htm for details on SMALL.

It is used in the Enlightenment DR17 desktop.

I request an adopter for the xbvl package.
XBVL is not very used, a removal could probably do the job as well if no
packager adopt it soon.

The package description is:
Xbvl is a Lisp dialect, which main features are:
  - Automatic optimizations of Lisp code
  - Possibility to add additional activities to Lisp functions,
instructions and variables. These activities don't affect the
program behavior
  - Interface with X Windows system and Athena (and 3D Athena) widget set
  - Interface with SGI Open GL or Mesa GL graphic library
 .
Although it is right now in French, plans are to translate it
 entirely to English.

Bug#462833: ITA: libupnp -- Intel Universal Plug And Play SDK

2008-03-04 Thread Nick Leverton
I'm considering adopting libupnp since I wanted it for my home network
and I had already packaged the update to 1.6 as a trial for my own use.

My attempt at a libupnp3 package for unstable can be found at
http://debian.leverton.org/debian/dists/etch/main/source/libupnp_1.6.5-1.dsc

http://debian.leverton.org/debian/dists/etch/main/source/libupnp_1.6.5.orig.tar.gz

I would be very grateful if someone could review this package, and also
if anyone felt able to mentor/sponsor me as maintainer. I'll update
WNPP properly and retitle this bug if someone can check that my packaging
skills are not too far out !

I tested this package by linking linux-igd against libupnp3 and it seems
to work on the limited testing I can do (consisting of adding uPnP port
forwards to linux-igd from Windows). linux-igd doesn't seem to use the
updated APIs anyway.

Of course the few uPnP aware packages already in Debian are using libupnp0
or libupnp2, but I decided it was not worth packaging 1.4.7 since the
1.6.x branch is already seeming more mature. I hope they will be able
to update to libupnp3 if we can make it available before the Lenny freeze.

Thanks in hope for any comments,

Nick Leverton

Bug#469397: ITP: xbmc -- XBox Media Center Linux Port

2008-03-04 Thread Faidon Liambotis

Matthew Johnson wrote:

Description: XBox Media Center Linux Port
A media center originally written for the XBox and then ported to linux.

I intend to upload this to experimental to start with. The linux port of it is
just that. It's also designed for installation to a single directory, not
installation on a unix system. I'll need to hack round that first. The version
number is a CVS snapshot. I need to improve the long description before
uploading.
First of all, you surely must mean SVN and you should use a version
number like 0.0~svn20080302, i.e. MMDD or else I'd expect an epoch
pretty soon :)

I've had a look at this and even made it to successfully work on my
machine. I reported some issues back to upstream (e.g. incompatibility
with libmms 0.4) and told them that I was interested on bringing this to
Debian. I also mentioned the FHS issue which is an obvious blocker for
Debian inclusion.

I've had only negative comments; they apparently don't care about
inclusion in Debian or Ubuntu (which is their platform of preference)
and they just want to be able to release a liveCD that works.
The FHS proposal was thought to be too much trouble for little gain
and potentially harming the MacOSX port which is also under development.

I had a look at the code and it's a mess, because of the XDK/Windows
heritage, e.g. there are conversions between Windows paths (H:\) and
Linux ones (/opt/xbmc).

...and that's why I never filed an ITP and still don't regret that choice.

All in all, good luck with that ;-)
You should expect some heavy upstream patching and a potentially
unfriendly upstream.

But I'd really like to see this packaged.

Thanks,
Faidon

Bug#466330: new upstream release (aka fork in Text::Markdown)

2008-03-04 Thread Joey Hess
There's a version 1.0.16 of Text::Markdown on CPAN now.
http://search.cpan.org/~bobtfish/Text-Markdown-1.0.16/

It includes multimarkdown in the same distribution. It also has a test
suite. This version seems to include the changes from markdown
1.0.2b8, based on its changelog, though I haven't verified that.

At the moment I'm feeling like the thing to do is switch debian to the
CPAN version, packaging it as libtext-markdown-perl, and possibly
keeping the markdown package around for a while in case of compatibility
issues and/or because it provides /usr/bin/markdown, which the CPAN
version does not (though it could be easily added).

Bug#466330: new upstream release (aka fork in Text::Markdown)

2008-03-04 Thread Joey Hess
One note about the CPAN version -- it's even slower than markdown
1.0.2~b8. (These benchmarks run markdown on a very simple text, foo.)

markdown 1.0.1
  markdown: 3 wallclock secs ( 3.37 usr + 0.02 sys = 3.39 CPU) @ 2949.85/s
(n=1)

markdown 1.0.2~b8
  markdown: 6 wallclock secs ( 6.08 usr + 0.00 sys = 6.08 CPU) @ 1644.74/s
(n=1)

CPAN Text::Markdown 1.0.16
  markdown: 11 wallclock secs (10.48 usr + 0.01 sys = 10.49 CPU) @ 953.29/s
(n=1)

I request a co-maintainer for K3b. There are often quite a few bugs which take
some time
to investigate and attempt to reproduce before forwarding upstream (and
following up).

It's not a huge amount of work, but it would be quite nice to split the work
with someone
else.

On my list of things to do is merge the packaging with the Ubuntu version and
try to
collaborate more with the Ubuntu maintainers.

So if anyone is keen to help out with a package that's use by a very large
number of users,
please get in touch with me.

Francois

The package description is:
K3b is a GUI frontend to the CD recording programs cdrdao and cdrecord.
Its aim is to provide a very user friendly interface to all the tasks
 that come with cd recording.
 .
It can be used to copy CDs and burn:
  - audio CDs (from wav, mp3, ogg vorbis, mpc or flac files)
  - data CDs and DVDs
  - mixed-mode CDs (CD-Extra support)
  - VCDs (1.1, 2.0 and SVCD)
  - ISO files (Joliet/Rockridge and El Torito support)
  - eMovix CDs

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The current maintainer of orange, Volker Christian [EMAIL PROTECTED],
is apparently not active anymore. Therefore, I orphan this package now.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please take it -- see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Thank you,

Apart from the other reasons stated in this thread, I could imagine it
giving you workaround for some of the bugs and missing features in the
google IMAP server. See [1] for more details.

Bug#469424: ITP: ttf-jsmath -- TeX fonts to display jsMath pages

2008-03-04 Thread Atsuhito KOHDA
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Atsuhito KOHDA [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: ttf-jsmath
  Version : 0.01
Upstream Author : Davide P. Cervone [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL :
http://www.math.union.edu/~dpvc/jsmath/download/jsMath-fonts.html
* License : BaKoMa Fonts License (not yet confirmed)
Description : TeX fonts to display jsMath pages

jsMath uses some TeX fonts to render mathematical contents in web pages
so jsMath pages should be displayed much better with this package.

jsMath is very useful to display mathematical contents on the Web
but to view such pages one need to install some TeX fonts and
ttf-jsmath provides the fonts. The fonts are modifications of TeX
fonts (known as BaKoMa fonts) but a name is changed, for example,
as jsMath-cmr10 instead of cmr10 and encodings are also changed from
the original so ttf-jsmath is not a duplication of existing TeX fonts.

I'm afraid a version number is not available so I took 0.01 temporary.
I've sent an email to the upstream author about the license because
I couldn't find any statement in the home page so I filled the above
License with that of the original BaKoMa fonts at present.
