Bug#499365: ITP: python-wordaxe -- germanic (and basic) hyphenation algorithms

2008-09-18 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Trent W. Buck [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The rst2pdf utility (see #496864) cannot create hyphenated output
without this library. Therefore I wish to package it for Debian.
Attached is a minimal, draft .diff.gz that I have created.

I do not intend to do further work on wordaxe until rst2pdf makes it
through NEW.

* Package name: python-wordaxe
  Version : 0.2.6
Upstream Author : Henning von Bargen [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://deco-cow.sf.net/
* License : Apache2.0 | BSD-2
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : germanic (and basic) hyphenation algorithms

The wordaxe library (formerly known as deco-cow) provides Python
programs with the ability to automatically hyphenate words using an
algorithm which is based on decomposition of compound words into base
words, and is named DCWHyphenator in the code.
 .
Currently, only German language is supported for the
DCWHyphenator. Other germanic languages like Nederlands, Dansk,
etc. that make heave use of compound words should profit from the
algorithm as well - as soon as someone provides a word base.
 .
Apart from the DCWHyphenator, the library supports other algorithms
 as well:
 .
  * BaseHyphenator is language-independent and splits words only after
a few special characters (in particular, '-').
 .
  * PyHnjHyphenator is a pure Python implementation of the hyphenation
algorithm used in TeX and OpenOffice.
 .
The library can be used as a simple add-on to the ReportLab PDF
library, adding support for automatic hyphenation in the Paragraph
 line-breaking method.

Great. I hope my existing packaging work (as uploaded to
mentors.debian.net) is useful to you both.

I have done some work on making Gracie's packaging operate better.

There is now a new upstream release (version 0.2.7) of Gracie at
URL:http://pypi.python.org/pypi/gracie/, which reduces the clever
setuptools rules to allow the Debian tools to do their job better.

I would be happy to work with you both, and would be very pleased if
 you (Gustavo) could sponsor uploads.

If you're still interested in sponsoring uploads, the new package is
now uploaded to debian mentors. You can get it with:

$ dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gracie/gracie_0.2.7-1.dsc

I will set up a Bazaar repository in the Alioth collab-maint
project, and we can use that as the central VCS repository for both
an upstream mirror and the Debian packaging work.

The VCS repository is now active on Alioth, with separate branches for
upstream source and Debian packaging.

Another good practice this module can test is to use strict; in
 all perl files.

By setting a minimum test coverage through all_cover_ok(), a code
author can ensure his or her code is tested above a preset level of kwality
 throughout the development cycle.

Along with Test::Pod, this module can provide the first tests to
 setup for a module author.

Okay, your call, but this is hardly a block, as you can specify
additional arguments to -i/-I until you patch has been accepted, no?

The problem is that I *can't* specify additional '-i' arguments to
'dpkg-source'; the man page explains “There can only be one active
regexp, of multiple -i options only the last one will take effect.”

I'd love to be able to tell 'dpkg-source' to ignore an *extra* file
glob in addition to what it normally ignores, but that's not
supported. So, rather than replace the default massive regular
expression with a slightly-more-massive fragile regular expression, I
wait for the default to be updated. (The patch is accepted, but is

Heh, That sounds like a good consolation prize ;)

Well, there are some outstanding issues with the rt3.8 package:

* Rt3.8 depends HTML::RewriteAttributes = 0.02 (not-in-debian), but
apparently it works without it right now.

* There's no manpage for:
  - usr/sbin/rt-clean-sessions
  - usr/sbin/rt-email-dashboards
  - usr/sbin/rt-email-digest
  - usr/sbin/rt-email-group-admin
  - usr/sbin/rt-shredder

* Right now the only functional backend is the Pgsql one(which I'm
currently using). I'm not applying the 02_acls patch, which is not
documented, because I'm not sure how to proceed with this one,
rt3.8-db-postgresql works without it. Help would be appreciated :)

rt3.8-3.8.1 is out too, I'll look at it this weekend and put it on shape.

Thanks Rhonda.

If you're still interested in sponsoring uploads, the new package is

Done :)

P.S.: btw, I'm glad they included a fix of mine in this new release too,

 relative URLs ;-)

Absolutely, that fix was fairly crucial to my nagios/cas integration.
Thanks for that.

Andrew Ruthven has made Debian packages available, as seen in

A number of people seem to be using my 3.8.1 packages both for Lenny and

installation instructions, but I believe that is the only issue.

Jesse has also expressed a strong interest in getting a number of the
Debian patches commited into RT. I should really get back to getting
those submitted.

My work is in a git repo which is browseable at:
  http://git.catalyst.net.nz/gw?p=request-tracker.git;a=summary

Or you can check it using:
  git clone git://git.catalyst.net.nz/request-tracker.git

I'm not sure how much Gerardo and Andrew have joined their efforts, Cc'ing
them. Andrew, you'd naturally be very welcome in the pkg-request-tracker

We haven't joined our efforts at all. :) I saw an email indicating he
wanted to work on it, but hadn't seen anything further, rats.

Yes, I'm interested in getting more involved.

To use Javaflow in your program, Javaflow needs to enhance its Java byte code:

 - dynamically, at runtime, by using Javaflow's ContinuationClassLoader.

Apologise for the delay in responding!

Can you put in another bazaar?

Great. I hope my existing packaging work (as uploaded to

I have done some work on making Gracie's packaging operate better.

There is now a new upstream release (version 0.2.7) of Gracie at

I will set up a Bazaar repository in the Alioth collab-maint
project, and we can use that as the central VCS repository for both
an upstream mirror and the Debian packaging work.

The VCS repository is now active on Alioth, with separate branches for
 upstream source and Debian packaging.
