Onderwerp: muffin packaging

Hi Bas, Clement,

I've always looking for experience with Linux Mint. I'm a Debian Developer and
such, I don't want to leave it. I've started packaging Cinnamon and
dependencies. Muffin packaging is ready, even if it still has some edges.
Looking for two things. First is an official release of Muffin 1.0.2 .
Downloaded the git tag, but that's suboptimal I think. Also I would like to ask
for review and testers of packages. Bas has the ITP for muffin, but can't see
any activity from him. May I take over of #661270 ?
Beware, I don't have experience with Cinnamon and I may not maintain it in the
long run if I'm disappointed with it.

Cheers,
Laszlo/GCS

Bug#471927: [Scratch] Scratch 1.4 source code released under GPL v2

Hi Allison,

Mako Hill was kind enough to gather some suggestions related to our
policy from an IRC chat with some debian folks. We're reviewing these
suggestions, and anticipate making some clarifications soon. I'll send
an update to this list when we do.

I really hope we won't have to do the iceweasel thing, and my
understanding is that our trademark policy does not conflict with the DFSG.

Bug#614517: Packaging of libgit2

2012-03-28 Thread Russell Sim
Hi Carlos,

Sorry to keep bugging you :) you are probably more time poor that I. I
thought I should mention that I am by no means a debian developer or
even a maintainer for that matter. So I will be unable to upload the
package my self. I don't know if you are a DD or DM so I'm not sure if
I should be searching for a sponsor. If you are possess the power and
are interested in sponsoring, that would be fantastic. Otherwise just
let me know and I'll start looking for someone.

Thanks,
Russell

Firstly, source code version and SONAME are completely different things.
There is no reason to start the SONAME at 2, it should start at 0.
Secondly, if upstream is not producing properly versioned shared
libraries, it is very inappropriate to trample their SONAME name-space
and much better to use a Debian-specific SONAME. If upstream chooses 0
as the SONAME and then makes two new releases with an incompatible ABI,
they will be up to SONAME 2 which will be ABI incompatible with the
Debian SONAME 2.

I don't know CMake that well but it appears that upstream is incorrectly
hard-coding the lib install directory. Anyone wanting to customise the
library dir will get the wrong result.

RHEL/Fedora distributions don't support proper multi-arch, they only
have bi-arch (aka multilib). When they start switching to proper
multi-arch, they are going to need that patch so it is best to get it
upstream now.

Well, ultimately the library isn't the most important part of the
package, the important bit is the command-line tools and they should be
named appropriately. The libraries come from an embedded code copy of
nvidia-oss, not from nvidia-texture-tools itself. I would say the name
of the package with the binaries should reflect the above.

Embedded code copies are discouraged in Debian. There are also the
libsquish and poshlib embedded code copies. Please inform the security
team about these issues if the package reaches the archive.

http://wiki.debian.org/EmbeddedCodeCopies
http://code.google.com/p/nvidia-oss/
http://code.google.com/p/libsquish/
http://hookatooka.com/poshlib/

In addition, libsquish can be built with SSE or Altivec on the
appropriate platforms, increasing its speed. By embedding libsquish,
nvidia-texture-tools is missing out on that speed-up. Since

You should have a get-orig-source debian/rules target to automatically
build/repack the tarball. Please see debian-policy for info on that.

I guess you missed removal of the non-free nvidia logo?

Bug#666010: ITP: nvidia-texture-tools -- image processing and texture manipulation tools

2012-03-28 Thread Lennart Weller

How come you didn't file an ITP *before* packaging it? That is what ITPs
are for.
Because I did not plan to have it submitted to debian when I created it
for my ubuntu ppa.

The package is already in collab-maint [1]. And in the new queue for
unstable. It was mainly meant to allow to build 0ad. Here [2] is the
ITP for 0ad which requires nvidia-texture-tools to continue.

I see.

Here is a quick review of your packaging:

Your library versioning is broken, you should use a Debian-specific
SONAME until upstream sets that. Personally I don't think the libs
should be public, better to put them in a private dir.
In what way do you think it's broken? Also I did submit [1] the patch
for the library versioning but it got
ignored so far. Every software which would benefit from the library
currently uses the two year old
version 2.0.8 and there is more then one open request so why should the
library be hidden from the system?

02-multiarch.patch looks like it *does* need forwarding.
This way of implementing multi-arch support is debian specific so I
don't think upstream would need this. Which is also
written in the abstract of the patch. Building the library with this
patch would definitely go against the the multi-arch solution

of e.g. RHEL-based distributions.

You might want to run wrap-and-sort -sa so that diffs of the debian/ dir
are more readable.
Didn't know that tool. Thanks for mentioning it. Otherwise I would have
done this myself manually in the future.

IMO libnvtt-bin should be called nvidia-texture-tools.
I used this naming scheme because it is frequently used by other
libraries like libc-bin, ncurses-bin, libnotify-bin, libglib2.0-bin and
so on.

Of course I'm free to any suggestions on this part.

The package version has +dfsg in it but there is no indication of how
the upstream tarball was repacked and what was non-free.
I removed gnuwin32 binary files, auto-generated Visual Studio project
files (because they had no license header and were not necessary) and a
custom configure
script which broke automatic cmake building and basically called just
cmake in the first place. I will look into it to add this information to
the package.

Ganv is an interactive Gtkmm canvas widget for graph-based interfaces
(patchers, modular synthesizers, finite state automata, interactive graphs,
 etc).
 .
Ganv provides classes for "Modules" (boxes with "Ports"), Circles, and
Edges (lines that connect either Ports or Circles). The user can rearrange
items, or Ganv can automatically arrange items using GraphViz. Edges can
be made by the user one at a time with the mouse, or in groups using the mouse
 and keyboard.

Description : C++ library for DAWG dictionaries

This project provides a library dawgdic for building and accessing
dictionaries implemented with directed acyclic word graphs (DAWG).

A DAWG is constructed by minimizing a trie as a deterministic finite
automaton (DFA), and thus the DAWG has an advantage in memory usage.

Owner: Rafael Laboissiere

* Package name: octave-dataframe
  Version : 0.9.1
Upstream Author : The Octave Community
* URL : http://octave.sourceforge.net/dataframe/
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: Octave
Description : manipulate data in Octave similar to R data.frame

In the R language, a dataframe object is a way to group tabular data. The
functions in this package allow the manipulation of data in a similar way
in Octave. Dataframe objects in Octave can be created in a variety of
ways (from other objects or from tabular data in a file) and then can be
accessed either as matrix or by column name.

This Octave add-on package is part of the Octave-Forge project.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The sssd package is in a bad shape and I lack the spare time required to
maintain it. It is a very nice tool for enterprise laptops, allowing
the laptop to be set up to connect to Kerberos and LDAP infrastructure
when the machine is present in its home network, and to keep working when
it is outside its home network.

Upstream is available from https://fedorahosted.org/sssd/wiki >.

The initial plan was for Jonathan Carter to take over, and that might
still happen, but he seem to run short on time too, so I register this
request for adoption request to see if there are others willing and with
spare time to tend to this package.

I would be happy to sponsor uploads if some non debian developer want to
take over the package. My sponsoring preferences are available from
http://www.hungry.com/~pere/debian-sponsoring.html > if this is
interesting to you.

See http://packages.qa.debian.org/s/sssd.html > for the package
status. The newer sssd package need ding-libs to work. See
http://bugs.debian.org/637594 > for that story.

I agree with that. Also i will check the other packages, because they
have the channel.xml file and not the .reg one.

Description: CD image format conversion from bin/cue to iso/cdr
The bchunk package contains a UNIX/C rewrite of the BinChunker program.
BinChunker converts a CD image in a .bin/.cue format (sometimes
.raw/.cue) into
a set of .iso and .cdr/.wav tracks. The .bin/.cue format is used by some
non-UNIX CD-writing software, but is not supported on most other CD-writing
 programs.

How come you didn't file an ITP *before* packaging it? That is what ITPs
are for.

I see.

Here is a quick review of your packaging:

Your library versioning is broken, you should use a Debian-specific
SONAME until upstream sets that. Personally I don't think the libs
should be public, better to put them in a private dir.

02-multiarch.patch looks like it *does* need forwarding.

You might want to run wrap-and-sort -sa so that diffs of the debian/ dir
are more readable.

IMO libnvtt-bin should be called nvidia-texture-tools.

The package version has +dfsg in it but there is no indication of how
the upstream tarball was repacked and what was non-free.

I already got a sponsor for the package and I already completed the
packaging a few month back but thanks for offering your help. The
package is already in collab-maint [1]. And in the new queue for
unstable. It was mainly meant to allow to build 0ad. Here [2] is the ITP
for 0ad which requires nvidia-texture-tools to continue.

It's PEAR who creates the .reg file dynamically, right? I mean, it's
because you do "pear channel-add channel.xml" that the .reg is created.
So in a way, *you* created the file, and we can ship it to the license
type you decide, don't you think?

At least, that's my view on the issue. Comments would be appreciated.

Thomas

Bug#666008: RFP: pogo -- Probably the simplest and fastest audio player for Linux

2012-03-28 Thread Jendrik Seipp

Am 28.03.2012 10:39, schrieb Gergely Nagy:

Pardon my ignorance, but how is a GTK+ player, that supports searching,
cover display and whatnot simpler and faster than gst123 ~/Music/* ?
You're right, this comparison should be limited to players with
graphical interfaces only.

What makes it faster than any other gstreamer-based audioplayer? Or
simpler than any of the other similar software? (Of which, we have
plenty of packaged already)
Audio players normally play songs instantly, so comparing that time
doesn't really make sense. What's important though is the startup time
of the program. Decibel has been written with that in mind
(http://decibel.silent-blade.org/index.php?n=Main.Benchmark) and Pogo
has even improved a bit on that. You shouldn't take the tagline too
seriously though, it is primarily a way to outline the primary goals
(simplicity and speed) and get people to try out the program for
themselves.

Based on the description, I found nothing that would make it more
interesting than some of the things we already have packaged. How is it
different from decibel audio player, of which pogo is a fork of?
Decibel is already a fast and easy-to-use player, but Pogo takes that
one step further: Among other features it uses less chrome so there's
more space for the tracks, it features searching (on the harddrive and
in the playlist) and groups tracks by album in the playlist to further
save space. Actually pogo is the only player I know of, that let's you
collapse and expand the playlist and move around albums with a single
drag&drop motion.

You're right, there are thousands of audio players, I just found none to
fit my needs excatly, so I went off to create another one. Decibel has
proven to be an excellent foundation for this because of its modular code.

BTW: There's already an Ubuntu PPA for pogo. Potential packagers can
find the packaging code at
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~jendrikseipp/pogo/trunk/files/head:/debian/

.
