Bug#240889: AMD64 Port: Almost all packages are ready to be uploaded
On 04-May-12 04:25, Branden Robinson wrote: > Hmmm. When you submitted the original patch, you said it was "tested". > > In the future, please don't oversell the state of a patch you submit. Come on, I did not oversell anything. The original bug report stated two build problems on amd64 and described a possible solution. You added the 'help' tag to the bug and requested a patch against the current svn trunk. I tried to figure out how to do that, created a patch and checked if it solved the build problems stated in the original bug report. It did solve those build problems and I posted the patch to the BTS with the statement that 'it works for me'. What I meant with this was that it solves the build problems stated in the original bug report. This patch still stands as I originally posted it. I never claimed that this patch solves all problems for the amd64 architecture. However, I tried to create another patch to solve the remaining xfree86 build problems on amd64 and posted the result of these efforts to the BTS. With the help of others working on the amd64 port and two small changes/additions to my patch there is now a patch which seems to make xfree86 work on amd64. What would be the correct way to proceed now? Regards Andreas Jochens

Bug#248632: the same problem from kdm's view
I found that #236520 (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=236520) describes the same problem from kdm's perspective and there is also a patch. Perhaps that bug should be merged with this.

Bug#248539: libxrandr2: No need to conflict with xlibs

I didn't search for that documentation very thoroughly so. I could imagine, that some version of xlibs (something like 4.3.0-0pre-something) had libXrandr 2.0 in it, but the conflict wouldn't catch that. The other obvious thing being libxrandr-dev. This of course has to conflict with xlibs-dev (<< 4.3.0), for the headers, etc. But that's not the issue here. Well, xlibs-dev (4.2.1-12.1) does only contain a .a, but anyway, I just checked, libxrandr-dev contains the .so. > May I ask what motivated you to try having both versions of libXrandr on > your machine at the same time? Just curious. The obvious answer _would_ be "I have some weird app dynamicly linked against 1.0". But that's not true. My reason is a bit subtle: I like to update only a small amount of packages at a time. So with some luck, I can install say xbase-clients on a box with say x from debian/stable. This was the reasoning for setting the severity to minor, it might be lowered to wishlist, if you have to. Elrond

lots of problems with X after upgrade
Hi... I'm having lots of problems with X after the last upgrade (yesterday). Last gdm hangs in gdmlogin, kdm hangs also, xdm doesn't work (it doesn't serve remote sessions and local one dies after the first use). Downgrading gdm to 2.2.5.5-2 seems to work, but gnome-session hangs. When some type of session "works", mozilla hangs and eats all cpu. Today I saw new packages where in the mirror, so I tried other upgrade. Now configuration of xfonts-scalable hangs also, fc-cache eats all cpu forever. This is a testing system, not unstable, and the hardware is reliable. Any ideas? I'd appreciate any help. Regards, Roberto Lumbreras

The problem is that now (since friday 05/07/04), I cannot login into my gnome session. It inmediately defaults to KDE. Because of the timing of the error I don't know if I should blame this package, but I found the error in one of its files. The beginning of my ~/.xsession-errors is included below. It include debugging output as added by me in the line 29 of the file '/etc/X11/Xsession.d/20xfree86-common_process-args', whose lines 28-30 now read: STARTUP_FULL_PATH=$(which $1) message "Full path: $STARTUP_FULL_PATH <= before: $1" if [ -n "$STARTUP_FULL_PATH" -a -e "$STARTUP_FULL_PATH" ]; then Is evident from the output below that the command $(which $1) is failing. I'm no expert in shell programming but for now I have just set that line to 'STARTUP_FULL_PATH=$1' to be able to use gnome. My user uses /bin/tcsh as the default shell. I tried changing it to /bin/bash, but the error persists. Let me know if you need any more info to fix this bug. Thank you very much!, sincerely... Bug#247756: xlibmesa-dri: upstream tag -- what ought I to do? how can I help?
Package: xlibmesa-dri Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 Severity: normal Followup-For: Bug #247756 Hi. The upstream tag makes sense, from what little I understand of X; I doubted this bug was caused by Debian modifications/additions per se. But given this, does it make sense for me to report the bug to upstream? Or have you already done this? And given the XF86 license issues, the creation of X.org, etc., who's "upstream" at this point? XF86? X.org? mesa.sourceforge.net? dri.sourceforge.net? I ask because if this bug is being considered upstream somewhere, I'd like to be able to follow progress, if any, and offer to provide more information as needed.
