Bug#440389: Too wide for 800x600

2007-09-03 Thread Brice Goglin
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Thanks but junior user me is not ready to compile anything.

No junior user is ready to modify resources files, while anybody is able
to enter 5 command lines that I gave you in the previous mail. What's
the point of reporting bugs and then refusing to help debug them?

 However
I'm convinced that the problem is merely that your good intentioned
effort to fill in the unbalanced lack of

 38a39

 #endif

Our good intentioned effort comes from upstream, we don't patch
Xresources files without a good reason. They broke the resources file in
1.1.6 and fixed it right after.

in /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources, ended up being put in too early in the
 file. Closing the wrong #if.

This causes innocent 800 users to end up swallowing a lot of code
meant for 800 screens. Test it on a 800x600. It goes off the edge
 of the screen!

Please provide a patch, junior user me is not ready to test/debug xdm in
800x600 mode.

And on 800 screens I still have to comment out
 !xlogin*failFace: Helvetica-18:bold
to make the bevel problem go away.

Please don't mix multiple bug reports. You already said that in another
report, we read it.

Thanks,
Brice

So
I come back from hollydays today and

First :
I upgrade the xserver-xorg-video-nv from 1:2.1.2-2 to 1:2.1.3-1 version
that come in testing during my abscence

 - restart X, but no pointer

Second Time
I modify the xorg.conf with Option SWCursor yes in the Device
Section as you suggest

- restart X, no more pointer
(I also try to with HWCursor false and true as i see on the web,
but no more pointer)

I reboot, then I've the pointer, I try to restart X again, and...no
pointer :-(

I've make diff beetween each Xorg.0.log (with and without pointer) but i
see no différences

Come back to the Vesa driver for waiting another idea

Bug#440137: cultivation: movement with the mouse is broken

2007-09-03 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

So you're saying it works fine with libglu1-mesa 7.0.1-1 while it does
not work anymore in 7.0.1-2? Or do you mean it works in Etch (6.5.1-0.6)
and not in Sid? It'd be good to clarify which exact Mesa releases work
or not so that we can properly report this upstream. Several new
upstream Mesa releases have been uploaded in the last months. But Mesa
7.0.x are the stabilization releases of Mesa 6.5.x, so no regression
were supposed to happen in Sid recently.

Thanks,
Brice

My perception is that it happened in the upgrade from 7.0.1-1 to 7.0.1-2,
but I cannot confirm it myself, as I do not have 7.0.1-1 installed in any of
my machines AFAIK. Maybe in the lappy, I'll have a look at it and see if
we're lucky. The proof of concept program I attached in the report should be
enough to test it.

I downloaded 6.5.1-0.6 from etch and 7.0.1-1 from lenny. Both are fine,
but 7.0.1-2 breaks cultivation.

Ok thanks, there are very few patches between these releases, so I think
I found the bad one:

http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=mesa/mesa.git;a=commitdiff;h=3069f3484186df09b671c44efdb221f50e5a6a88

I rebuilt Mesa after reverting this commit and the behavior reported in
the bug report does not seem to occur anymore.

I'll forward this bug upstream.

Hello,

The configuration for GNU/Linux and GNU/Hurd is mostly identical,
however, there is a difference in how the mouse is setup.

Basically, on hurd-i386, the Device should always be /dev/mouse and
the Protocol be osmouse. ZAxisMapping should not be set,
Emulate3Buttons can be, depending on debconf.

Unfortunately, I'm no debconf wizard, so I hope the changes are not
overly complex and could be done relatively easily. It would be nice if
X would run out-of-the-box on hurd-i386. Feel free to ask questions, but
please CC me.

thanks,

Michael

rasterize traps that extend outside of the image bounds correctly

Traps that extend outside of the image bounds are rasterized incorrectly
currently; the problem is a signed vs. unsigned comparison that got
introduced when a width parameter went from int - uint. This patch
puts it back to int (since it's stored as an int in the bits structure
to begin with), and also fixes a similar warning in the memset wrapper

Update serverabi generation to also account for driver Provides

* Have the drivers use the file serverminver instead of serverabiver in
order
to generate the versioned dependency on the server. This is clearer
  naming.
* Use serverabiver to actually store the server's video ABI version. This
is used to generate the Provides: line for drivers so the server can
depend on them properly. This goes in to the substvar
  xviddriver:Provides.

Package: x11proto-render-dev
Version: 2:0.9.2-3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
your package builds 'render-dev' for transitional purposes. Currently
there are only 2 packages left (in sid) which depend on render-dev
- xorg-x11 (6.9)
- openoffice.org (bug for changing the dependency has been filed).

Is this dummy still needed after resolving these 2 occurrences?

Regards,
Stefan

Bug#440701: compiz: segfaults on startup

2007-09-03 Thread David Förster
Package: compiz
Version: 0.5.2-2
Severity: normal

I just upgraded from compiz 0.5.0 and now I executing compiz --replace
dies with the following output (and breaks the x session):

GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is not available with direct rendering.
GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is available with indirect rendering.
Window manager warning: Failed to load theme Clearlooks: Failed to
find a valid file for theme Clearlooks

/usr/bin/compiz.real (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: freedesktop
/usr/bin/compiz: line 37: 9495 Segmentation fault
/usr/bin/compiz.real $COMPIZ_OPTIONS $@ $COMPIZ_PLUGINS
The application 'gtk-window-decorator' lost its connection to the
display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.

I'm using KDE in case that matters.

Regards, David

SWCursor is just a workaround by not using a buggy feature, it is not a
fix. We apparently have a problem with hardware cursor support (when
SWCursor is not enabled), that would be a real bug, so I am not closing
this.

Your problem seems to be similar to the upstream bug at the URL above,
so I am marking the bug as forwarded there and I will add a comment
there saying that the problem still occurs with driver 2.1.3.

Bug#440024: fixed

2007-09-03 Thread Debian Archive Maintenance
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

libgl1-mesa-dri | 6.5.1-0.6 | hurd-i386

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.

Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically

Bug#440701: compiz: segfaults on startup

2007-09-03 Thread David Förster
Hi Brice,

I didn't succeed in producing the backtrace. I tried starting gdb
compiz.real and then run --no-fbo --replace gconf. The xsession then locks
up requiring a hard reboot :-( But nothing looking like a backtrace is
displayed. Only a message about a new thread.

I also tried it from a console, setting DISPLAY but that didn't produce
anything interesting either.

You should enable the png plugin (see

Could you catch a backtrace of the crash in gdb? Let me know if you need

Bug#440734: xbase-clients: xmessage displays backslashs used for escaping commas

2007-09-03 Thread Viktor Horvath
Package: xbase-clients
Version: 1:7.2.ds2-2
Severity: minor

This is a very minor problem :-)

Try this:

$ xmessage -buttons Yes\, I want that,No\, I do not Some text

I end up with one correct button Yes, I want that,
but in the other one, the backslash is shown: No\, I do not.

Seems the parsing of the button line could be improved.
To give my users an interface that is as easy as possible,
I'd like to have the commas on the buttons...

xmessage was unquoting the first button n times instead of unquoting
all n buttons only once. I committed the fix upstream, it will be in
the next release of xmessage and then in our x11-utils package (the new
package that will contain xmessage once xbase-clients is split).

Bug#440389: Too wide for 800x600

2007-09-03 Thread jidanni
I wish to limit my testing role as each time I start X, there's
the snap/crackle/pop ... if my mountaintop terminal blows, I must make
a two day journey to the city to buy a new one.

Also as I use the terminal then the laptop, then the terminal, with a
two day gap between each, full testing would take many days.

By the way these lines look old:
! $Xorg: Xresources,v 1.3 2000/08/17 19:54:17 cpqbld Exp $
! $XFree86: xc/programs/xdm/config/Xres.cpp,v 1.6 2003/01/04 03:11:31 dawes Exp
$

Any patch from minimalist me would remove all Font settings anyway.

Anyway, some of us are better at reporting crime... indeed, a new
concept for Debian: anonymous tipster bug reports...

Anyway, all these problems are merely cosmetic...
