OK, so you still rock. Training my administrative staff is gonna be a joy.
They know how to copy paste and rename. Actually editing a file, now THAT's

Doing it your way, you would have 200 .junkmail files, each with a
"REDIRECT" command in it to one of several config files.

Doing it my way, you would have just one \IMail\Declude\$default$.JunkMail,
with one REDIRECT line for each of the 200 users. Wouldn't that be
easier? If you wanted to change something (such as adding a new test),
using either method, you would just need to modify the 3 files that are
used in the redirection ("no notifications", "regular", and "aggressive").

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Groups with per user .junkmail files

2002-10-03 Thread Trent M. Davenport

Because we're an ISP we have to leave our subscribers with options. Right
now we have 3 options

1. No notifications (all items are set to warn)
2. Regular SPAM blocking (Weight 20 set to delete)
3. Aggressive SPAM blocking (Weight 10 set to delete)

and a $default$.junkmail that does a header insertion telling them that SPAM
detection has found SPAM and if they'd like it enabled or the notifications
removed, to contact us.

We already have over 60 people signed up, and we've created user.junkmail
files based upon the option they want. We just copy the template files I
created to their user.junkmail file. Problem is, if we get a few hundred of
these (we have 1800 subscribers) and then something changes, or we want to
change the message, I don't want to manually have to change 200 .junkmail
files.

Just as an aside, we have about 40 different domains too.

Any thoughts.

Instead of having the \IMail\Declude\example.com\user1.JunkMail file have a

The reason we want

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Pay services

2002-10-03 Thread Kami Razvan

Hi;
We don't use any pay services. I am amazed as the effectiveness of the
ones that are free.

Simply with Declude and the tests listed -- we have enabled a large
number of those in the list-- I know I, very rarely, get one or two
spams a month. The tests are quite effective.

We simply route weights of 20 to Admin and then use the spams trapped
for blacklisting, or adding to our filter file.

So if you spend a little time fine tuning your global and filter files
the base systems are perfect and for one or two that skip the traps the
money is not worth it.

May be a discussion on this list could be good on what free tests people
find most effective and the actions they take based on those tests.

Regards,
Kami

FYI:

IMail has problems with filename attachments containing spaces. If you send
somebody an email with an attachment with a space in the filename, web
messaging will not be able to read the attachment. If you rename the file
without spaces and resend the e-mail, users will be able to see the
attachment in IMail web messaging.

I realize that your issue may be a different problem, however, I thought you
should know about this known issue.

Good luck.

Have you tried making both of them a group alias, and point them to the same
text file? This will make it so you only have to edit the one file and both
aliases point to the same mail boxes. It also makes it scriptable for edits,
it you really need to go that far.

Scott,

I had a situation where there was an alias that pointed to another alias.
We did this because we wanted two aliases pointing to a group of about 5
addresses. And we did not want or need the overhead of a list. Nor did we
want to have to edit both aliases every time the group changed (it changes a
lot!).

I found that in this case, the junkmail settings for the actual user
accounts did not work. My assumption was that JunkMail resolved the first
alias and assumed the second one was the name of a user account. And since
there was no .junkmail file by that name, it used the default settings. Is
this what was going on? We ended up making two duplicate aliases with
different names to get the users' junkmail settings to work. But now we
have to do frequent updates to both aliases.

Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is all handled by IMail. IMail gives Declude two
addresses - the intended recipient (the one that the remote mailserver
tried sending the E-mail to), and the actual recipient (the one that IMail
says that it is, after aliases are handled). I'm guessing that IMail
translates the alias once before sending it to Declude, and again after
Declude processes the E-mail to get to the final recipient.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Per User - Alias Account

2002-10-03 Thread Todd Ryan

Thanks.

--Todd.

That is (or should be) a separate issue. The ATTACH action creates the
attachment, but it is up to the mail client to display it
properly. Ironically, it seems that Outlook handles it the best. One
version of Eudora, for example, will always display the headers of the
attached E-mail (apparently, their programmers are clueless as to what
attached E-mails are used for), and either a link to the E-mail (if the
E-mail is text only), or display the E-mail (if it is HTML).

The first step is to try to fix the problem, not work around it.

The problem is that Earthlink has (or used to have) a formmail script on
that web site, that could be used by spammers to send out spam.

>I know I can set the $default#junk.mail file to "warn" but that wont
>stop the spam mail. right? So how does this
>work?

That's correct -- setting the action for the MONKEYFORMMAIL test to WARN
will affect all incoming mail, including spam.

One way to work around the problem would be by whitelisting your customer's
E-mail address (with a line such as "WHITELIST FROM [EMAIL PROTECTED]" in
the \IMail\Declude\global.cfg file). Note that you should not whitelist
the entire Earthlink domain, as it will frequently appear as the return
address on spam.

Note that the weighting system gets around problems like this by requiring
several tests to fail, so if the Earthlink web mailer only failed the
MONKEYFORMMAIL test, it wouldn't get caught.

that a email she sent to her regular customer
failed due to

The mail server for golfersguide.com does not accept E-mail that fails the

I don't understand why a earthlink webbased email

What's is the work around so customers using

I know I can set the $default#junk.mail file to

The global.cfg has all the global settings in it. That includes things

The \Imail\Declude\$default$.JunkMail file lists the actions for incoming mail.

Declude JunkMail runs each E-mail against a number of different tests. For
each test that it fails, an action is taken. That's how spam gets blocked
-- by using the HOLD or DELETE actions.

In this case, the test failed the MYFILTER test, but the action for that
