RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Address Book Only in Declude?
Tom et al, I really like this approach on the rules.ima. Also been trying to spec out a way to give the end user some control over some simple Spam management. It would be great if a host administrator (and even the end user) could determine which Declude Spam tests we make available from a list they would like to use, as well as the ability to add/edit/delete their own Declude Kill list addresses. However, requires unique global.cfg for each which is not currently possible and sure there are a lot of issues involving same to to this. But it sure would be nice! Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Address Book Only in Declude?
Ya, that is an issue. We are currently working on a solution that will do two things... 1) run clean up code each time the user logs out of webmail, which trims the size of the spam mailbox if it is greater than a certain size. 2) an automated script that checks for spam mailboxes that have exceeded a certain size, since not all users user webmail. We don't use Imail's webmail, we have custom code running on a bunch of Linux boxes which allows us to do things like #1 more easily. Reply to: R. Scott Perry Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Address Book Only in Declude? on Thursday 10:19:03 AM The only problem I see with this is whitelisting... perhaps it should even disregard the whitelist too? Looks like a bounce would be preferable on a feature like this. It would be a great feature. If a user wants to receive e-mails from a select source he or she could just log into web mail and enter the address. It would be nice if they could make a 'CONTAINS' rule by say entering an address like [EMAIL PROTECTED], Then if internet.com was in the HEADERS, it would pass the mail.. Others have suggested making whitelists into separate lists so you can per user or per domain them. Perhaps if you do this all these things can be 'matched up'? -- Roger Heath [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.rleeheath.com - Copy of Original Message(s): - >>Personally we'd like to have this as an add-on and not a standard >>feature. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Address Book Only in Declude?
>Unless, of course, Declude were to add a web interface to provide user >self-administration... This is something we would love to do, but would be difficult for a number of reasons. The biggest problem is that IMail doesn't have an interface to web messaging. It would be easy for them to do, so there is hope -- but, I don't know if they will see the demand for it. If they do add one (and it isn't as complex as new Microsoft technologies, which it doesn't need to be), we would certainly add support for it. Assuming that no interface for web messaging occurs, there are many other problems: [1] We would need to write and maintain our own webserver, [2] It would require opening yet another port on firewalls, [3] It would either require minimal security, or would require a huge amount of work authenticating users against multiple data sources or the log files Ideally, Ipswitch will add support for third-party addons to web messaging. It could be done fairly easily -- they could have a URL in the format "http://mail.example.com/X.../addons/filename?data=data...";. If they see the "/addons/", they then parse out "filename" and run \IMail\addons\filename.exe (placed in a separate directory for security reasons), with the username and "data=data" as the parameters passed to it. It should be possible in about 10-20 lines of code. The "data=data" bit would allow data from forms to be sent to the program. If people can come up with other uses for that (besides just for managing Declude), it might be possible to persuade Ipswitch to add the web messaging interface. One thought would be a tool users could use that would search the log file for E-mails that they had sent/received that day. -Scott --- Declude: Anti-virus, Anti-spam and Anti-hijacking solutions for IMail. http://www.declude.com --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus (http://www.declude.com)] --- This E-mail came from the Declude.JunkMail mailing list.
