Re: [Declude.JunkMail] F-Prot Licensing
Nick, One other thing about this. It's not the scan time that is the most important, it's the CPU utilization. As it turns out, they are roughly related, and clearly clamdscan and F-Prot are the best performers by a mile. Back when I did my tests of these things, those two ran neck and neck, hardly registering any load, and then with a big jump, McAfee and AVG were third and fourth best. I have minimized the affects by doing AV scanning after the JunkMail scanning, which is behind an Alligate gateway, so many fewer messages get scanned for viruses, but still AV scanning is a major contributer to overall load. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] F-Prot Licensing
So it seems that market forces are not causing the price to drop. It is causing the price to increase. There are ever more players in the antivirus market but pricing continues to go up. The market force of "absolute need for antivirus on the mail server" is outweighing the number of companies supplying antivirus command line scanners. What is the breaking point. Actually, it looks like they now view us as direct competition to their AVES service and therefore want us to go away. Maybe some McCrappy exec is now working for F-Prot. Very sad. we're looking into changing now also - there's no way we can afford to keep F-Prot at those rates.. I just do not understand why greed always has to set in when a product comes out that works great and is hassle free. We've never had to contact them in the 5-6 years of using them for any issues at all. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] F-Prot Licensing
Just a comment on this Licensing thread F-Prot like all virus companies charge the extra $ because of the different process used when scanning email as opposed to regular scanning. Declude has this process and functionality built in to the Declude product which enables customers to use a command line scanners like ClamWin to scan their email in the same way, as virus companies mail server versions. Not to mention AVG which is built into Declude Security Suite, which hopefully customers will now begin to really understand the value and financial benefits to this integration. High-quality, efficient virus scanning is essential for any mail server. E-mail is the most common way for viruses and other malware to spread. The most effective way of stopping the spread of malware onto a network and beyond is at the server. F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers includes a Command Line Scanner (fpcmd.exe) that can be used with third party mail server software such as Declude and MailEnable. Information on how to use the software with such programs can be found on www.declude.com and www.mailenable.com. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] F-Prot Licensing
Wow! It's like one of those MasterCard commercials. Here's an example server based on list prices: SmarterMail Enterprise Edition (Unlimited Domains and Users) - $899 Declude Security Suite for Smartermail Enterprise (Unlimited Domains) - $1750 Annual Subscription F-Prot Antivirus for Windows Mail Servers (1000-1999 Users) - $2519 Annual License fee Frisk doesn't even mention a price for Unlimited Users. I guess it's like a Ferrari, if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] F-Prot Licensing
I hadn't noticed that before. This webpage is pretty darn explicit, so yes, the pricing you quoted is correct! From the bottom of the page that describes the corporate licences available: http://www.f-prot.com/products/corporate_users/win/ F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers To use the F-Prot Antivirus scanner on a Windows Mail Server a F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers license is required. This license category differs from the general F-Prot Antivirus for Windows for corporate users license in that it covers use that the general license does not: F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers applies to mail servers, mail relays and mail gateways, i.e. computers that provide mail services to a network, either for incoming or for outgoing e-mail. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] F-Prot Licensing
According to something I read on the Alligate Support forumn at least as far back as March. Interesting that they have never issued much of a press release on it to there customer base. Tho I licensed mine in Februrary of this year so I'm good for a bit. At 12:59 PM 7/14/2006 -0700, you wrote: When did Frisk change the licensing for F-prot!
