re: [Declude.JunkMail] Declude and Smartermail?
I've been using Declude with SmarterMail for about six weeks. I'm generally pleased with the results except for some minor problems. Two problems that I've run into that I can't seem to get resolution from Declude support are: 1. When certain spams are sent to multiple addresses on the server, only one EML file is generated. This sets up an error where Declude detects the spam, tries to move it to the hold directory, but since there are multiple instances, the next person in the BCC still gets the spam because Declude has already moved the original EML file and thinks it is gone. 2. There are occurrances where the blacklist tests done by Declude (basically anything that needs a DNS lookup) fail, yet the same message is caught by the same blacklists tests done by SmarterMail. Overall though, Declude is definitely blocking more spam than SmarterMail would do alone. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Declude and Smartermail?
I think you have this backwards: the hang-up here isn't Declude, it's SmarterMail. I'm very interested in SmarterMail myself, but I'm not even going to try a trial until they add the AUTH feature. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Declude and Smartermail?
This is not an oversight in Declude as the functionality is there in imail but in SmarterMail not passing the auth info to Declude. There is nothing Declude can do until SmarterMail supplies the data to Declude. Declude and SmarterMail have both stated it will be available with SmarterMail 3.x Kevin Bilbee > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Dave Beckstrom > Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 4:18 PM > To: Declude.JunkMail@declude.com > Subject: RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Declude and Smartermail? > > > That is a big gaping hole in my opinion. As I posted before Christmas: Beta Trial Installs Issue - The availability of the Beta Trial software for Declude and SmarterMail. We specified clearly in our email to all customers, posted on the Home page of our web site and at the point of download the only permissible manner in which we would accept participants for this important process. "Declude Beta Release for SmarterMail - For those of you who wish to try the Beta version of Declude for SmarterMail please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with your name, organization, email address, email system host name, operating system and telephone number and we will contact you. No keys will be issued in the short term without going through this process." Resolution - We are now restricting all downloads to those who follow the request procedures ___ The issue still remains that customers did not follow the procedures so we are emailing customers direct with the exe files necessary to install the beta software. The exe is being updated each time we resolve an issue and it is more appropriate to manage the process in this way. I hope this clarifies the position. We are carefully rolling out this beta version to avoid greater complications later on. Currently the software works almost identically in SmarterMail as in IMail except for the following Actions: MAILBOX - This uses an IMail specific function and the ROUTETO can be used instead. BOUNCEONLYIFYOUMUST - Not available now but we are looking into this. All customers who have registered for the beta will be contacted as their name comes to the top of the list or their operating system and configuration meets our testing needs. There should be NO production Declude/SmarterMail installations as we are still in Beta mode and we are not recommending anyone goes into full production until we have completely tested the software. We are carefully rolling out this beta version to avoid greater complications later on. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Declude and Smartermail
Can I ask... (if you can't say it's ok)... does it hook in directly to SmarterMail and can do all the actions just like with IMail? Or is it an exe that runs when mail comes in and all it can do is delete mail? I'm using a scanner now that does ClamAV + SpamAssassin but all that can do really is delete mail .. nothing fancy. This is a good question. I guess what we would all like to know is, does Declude Junkmail work the same way with SmarterMail as it did/does with Imail. Can we use the same filters, tests, etc?
