[Bug 4265] Launch music player shortcut is hardcoded in the sources

2006-03-04 Thread Jean-Baptiste
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/4265

Comment:
Hi,

I've been quite irritated by this bug, but found an easy work around until the
player to launch gets configurable: create a symlink called "rhythmbox" to your
favourite player in a directory situated before /usr/bin in your path.
For example:
ln -s /usr/bin/xmms /usr/local/bin/rhythmbox
did the trick for me as I have /usr/local/bin before /usr/bin in my path.

You can then use the "media" key to launch whatever you symlinked to.

Hope this helps,

JB

[Bug 33539] doesn't seem to detect activity after resuming from suspend

2006-03-04 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33539

Comment:
It doesn't look like it:

- moving the mouse doesn't stop it from suspending
- my /apps/gnome-screensaver/dpms_suspend is set to 60 and it locks the screen
every five minutes, not every hour.

Also, why would a dpms suspend be relevant? It fails to detect activity
and bumping that value would just mean it would take longer to fail, but
it would still fail.

[Bug 33643] RPM will not download correctly

2006-03-04 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33643

Comment:
This sounds like a misconfiguration on the end of the server you are
downloading the RPM from.

Basically both RealPlayer files and RedHat RPMs both end in .rpm . The
only way to know the correct program to open them in is for the server
to set the correct mimetype (e.g. RPMs from
http://mirror.ac.uk/mirror/fedora.redhat.com/4/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS/ try
to open in file roller for me).

(btw I hope you aren't trying to install RPMs on Ubuntu - if you're new
that's the path that madness and pain lies in...)

[Bug 33666] can't select device to record in gnome-sound-recorder

2006-03-04 Thread Martin Bergner
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33666

Affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I can't select the device to record from in gnome-sound-recorder, it switches
back to line-in or microphone whatever is enabled in the volume-control. If I
enable both (by enabling the mic icon in the volume control) it switches to
microphone. However, recording with my laptop only works from the "capture"
device.
I can record once from the capture device and play it back. However, when I
record more then once, I can't select the capture device again.
Also, I get multiple device lists after the first recording.

Let me explain this:
When I open gnome-sound-recorder, I can select the capture device. I have (in
that order) Line-In, CD, Microphone, Phone, Aux, Capture as a choice. I now
select Capture and click on Record (the button on top). I hit stop after 1
second or so and click the play button and hear my recorded sound.
I see "Unbekannt-2" (Unknown-2) in the title (why not 1? - I didn't record
anything before that). I then click record again and I see "Unbekannt-3" in the
title, however the capture device switched back to Microphone and it doesn't
record anything. Additionally, I now have 2 times the devices in that list (the
above list 2 times in a row), each "Record" more, I get another list appended
to the list. If I select any device in this (wrong) list, gnome-sound-recorder
outputs
** (gnome-sound-recorder:8383): CRITICAL **: gst_alsasrc_mixer_list_tracks:
assertion `this->mixer != NULL' failed
to the console.
Pressing the "New" button gives a new window with "Unbekannt-*" with * being +2
the one I had before (why not only 1 - probably the same fault as mentioned
before, but I can now select the "Capture" Device, I have only 1 of each device
in my device list and recording works. Pressing record again returns me to the
original problem.

[Bug 33673] Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop

2006-03-04 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33673

Affects: metacity (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Description of the problem:
It is possible for certain programs to stall the logout process so they can ask
questions. If such the program that does it is on another desktop, the only way
to see that desktop is by using keybord shortcuts (plus it is not obvious that
you have to check the other desktop).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Make sure no gedit windows are open on any desktop.
2. Press ctrl-alt-right to switch to another desktop.
3. Go to Applications -> Accessories -> Text Editor.
4. When gedit appears type 'a' so the document becomes unsaved.
5. Press ctrl-alt-left to switch to original desktop.
6. Go to System -> Log Out ...
7. Click on Log Out.

Expected result:
Desktop to be switched to desktop containg dialog stopping the logout.
gnome-panels to remain responsive until the last possible minute.

Actual results:
Desktop remains on desktop not showing the logout stopping dialog. gnome-panel
applets become unresponsive (Window List and Workspace Switcher no longer
respond to mouse input). No indication of which desktop needs attention, only
way to see the dialog is to use ctrl-alt-right .

Mildly related to Bug #4406 .

[Bug 33687] Focusing/clicking on a gaim conversation should remove message notification

2006-03-04 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33687

Affects: gaim (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Description of the problem:
When someone messages you in gaim and the window doesn't have focus, it glows
back and forth to gain your attention. However, unlike other programs which try
to get your attention this glow does not go away until you type in the window.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Log in to an IM network .
2. Wait for someone to say something to you.
3. Click on glowing box at the bottom of the screen.

Expected results:
Glowing to stop because I have read the message and don't necessarily have to
reply.

Actual results:
Task list entry continues to glow until something is typed in the window.

Additional information:
This is an option in Tools -> Preferences | Plugins | Message Notification . I
guess what I'm asking for is "Remove when conversation window receives click"
to be on by default.

[Bug 33689] Screensaver control panel disallows control of screensavers

2006-03-04 Thread Nacho de los Ríos
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33689

Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
In the past, we were able to choose what screensavers we wanted to see,
and which we wanted to banish, and we could configure each one to the
smallest detail *if we wanted*. Darkness of toast, length of worms,
pictures to be shown, messages to be printed, etc.

Now upstream has decided that configurability is bad for us, and
screensavers come as-is. We can just pick one and how long a period
before it pops up.

THIS IS NOT ENOUGH
THIS IS NOT FUN
SCREENSAVERS ARE FOR FUN

Please, consider telling upstream to stuff his attitude and bring back
configurability or go back to xscreensaver.

Or, to keep with the times, just ditch the whole screensaver concept and
only put an option for the screen to go blank or turn off Hmmm, too
much choice: just leave the time for it to go off ... Hmmm, that might
be too difficult too: maybe just turn off the screen after 10 minutes of
inactivity.

[Bug 33510] xscreensaver and gnome-screensaver conflict

2006-03-04 Thread Oliver Grawert
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33510

Comment:
a) the topic talks about conflicting xscreensaver with gnome-
screensaver, which is a duplicate of #22335

b) the link provided points to a discussion titled "Still no screensaver
options. Already in feature freeze." which is a duplicate of #22007

c) it must be possible to have both installed in a multiuser
environment, additionally this would make it impossible to have ubuntu-
desktop (depends gnome-screensaver) and xubuntu-desktop (depends
xscreensaver) installed (cant remember the bugnumber, but its a
duplicate as well)

d) all the desktop power management is handled by gnome-power-manager
now which requires a dbus and gconf aware screensaver

since i can mark a bug only once as duplicate, i needed to reject it ...
if the origianl submitter meant what you interpret into this report,
then please see it as a duplicate of a) and add up a bit of c) and d)

[Bug 33692] Nautilus cd creator conflicts with the autorun feature

2006-03-04 Thread Raphael Slinckx
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33692

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Steps:
0. Ensure no blank cd/dvd is present in drive
1. Open CD/DVD Creator through places menu
2. Copy some files in the window
3. Hit Write to CD... The window with speed, title, etc pops up waiting for
user to press 'Burn'
4. At this time insert a blank CD/dvd, the autorun feature will popup a dialog
asking wether to create a new cd, ignore, etc.

The two dialogs are now overlapping each other confusing the user. Since
it was already creating and nearly-burning the CD he just created, and
now he's asked what to do..

2006-03-04 Thread John Nilsson
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33702

Comment:
Hmm, I just realized that it might just as well bo some I/O problem.

If there's anything that can bring by system to halt it's high I/O load.

I tried copying some files from my disk to my mp3-player (USB flash
disk), this in it self didn't affect the sound, but while this was in
progres a virtual desktop switch will make the sound stutter.

Some hardware stats might be helpful:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1900+
RAM: 512MB CL2 (2-2-2-5) (Swap: 512MB)

Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu)

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Dragging files from file roller drops them to the wrong place.

1 Nautilus open in /home/user/downloads
2 There is a folder /home/user/downloads/stuff visible
3 Open the file /home/user/downloads/text.zip which contains a small text file.
4 Drag the text file to the 'stuff' folder icon. It looks like the file will be
dropped there.
5. Let go of the button.
Expected result: The file is extracted into /home/user/downloads/stuff
Acual result:
The file is extracted into /home/user/downloads

This doesn't seem to be the same problesm as Bug #13199 since this is a
small file and is successfully extracted. It's as if the drop target was
wrongly given as the nautilus current directory, rather than the sub
directory you really dragged to.

[Bug 33725] UW-IMAP folder handling somewhat broken

2006-03-04 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33725

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Evolution doesn't seem to be able to properly handle IMAP folders on
servers such as UW-IMAP which only allow messages OR folders in a given
folder. It gives an error (IMAP command failed: SELECT failed: Can't
open AOSC: not a selectable mailbox) when you try to select one of these
folder-containing folders.

For example, I have a "Mailing Lists" folder in my IMAP account which
holds folders containing messages from various mailing lists. If I
click on this folder in the mail menu in Evolution, the above error
message pops up. KMail, Thunderbird, mutt, and just about every other
IMAP client I've tried seems to be able to get it right except for
Evolution.

[Bug 33727] No admin menus with NIS users

2006-03-04 Thread Jim Louvau
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33727

Affects: meta-gnome2 gnome (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Logging on as a local user (created at install) gives me the expected "admin"
entries under the System->Administration menu like Synaptic and software
updates.
When logged on as a network user (NIS) all of the "administrative" type entries
are gone from the menus. The NIS ID's netgroup is in sudoers (and can indeed
sudo) and is a member of adm, admin, etc (same list of groups as the local user
with the same GID's). I'm at a loss as to why menu entries are missing. FWIW
this same setup works fine in Breezy.

[Bug 33727] No admin menus with NIS users

2006-03-04 Thread Jim Louvau
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33727

Comment:
FWIW I just confirmed that the software updater is running in the
background and DOES notify me (as a NIS user) that there are new updates
and lets me download and install them as advertised. So the apps seem to
work, there just aren't any menu entries because the system doesn't
"think" I'm an admin.
