[Bug 41274] Re: In Ubuntu Dapper Beta leaflet pdf, letters are not aligned

2006-05-01 Thread William Grant
Specifically, some of the documents with issues have been produced by
LaTeX (pdflatex and others). It's annoying to have to use a different
font when producing LaTeX documents, because Computer Modern has been
the standard for around 2 decades now. Ideally you should fix the cause,
not the document?

[Bug 41610] Re: Screen Resolution tool fails to switch between MergedFB dualhead and clone modes

2006-05-01 Thread Jiri Bajer
In a glance: if I use MergedFB for dual monitor setup the Screen resloution
tool gets confused about refresh rates (in Hz) and cannot properly run xrandr
backend to switch the resolutoins - even though xrandr itself can do it fine.

Since all docs are included in description of bug #41607 I didn't duplicate it
here, but if it's more comfortable for you I can do it now in a separate
comment... B-)

[Bug 41610] Configuration used to trigger the bug

2006-05-01 Thread Jiri Bajer
configuration:
notebook HP compaq nc6000 (1400x1050) + external 19 LCD HP 1902 (1280x1024)
ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10]
Linux sarim 2.6.15-21-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 21 16:57:03 UTC 2006 i686

xserver-xorg 7.0.0-0ubuntu2
resapplet 0.0.7+cvs2005
xserver-xorg-driver-ati 6.5.7.3-0ubuntu5
xrandr 1.0.1-0ubuntu1

xorg set-up using MergedFB with two available modes: 2680x1050 for dualhead
and 1400x1050 for clone/no external LCD mode.

xrandr is able to switch between the modes but Screen resolution tool cannot
and crashes instead. The same crash occurs when trying to do the same using
resapplet from Universe.

xrandr reports invalid refresh rates (see output below) and the graphical
utilities cannot handle it properly even xrandr can. I'll also file
a bug on xrandr package too and post its number here. Someone reported a bug in
xrandr that could possibly have the same cause - see bug #9...

sarim:~$ xrandr

*1 1400 x 1050 ( 681mm x 267mm ) *-19554
Current rotation - normal
Current reflection - none
Rotations possible - normal
Reflections possible - none

If I run the Screen resolution tool from commandline and try to switch the
modes it crashes and I get an error like this:

sarim:~$ gnome-display-properties
The program 'gnome-display-properties' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.

that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 42003] Re: no root file system

2006-05-01 Thread Joel Stanley
I see this also, using todays (20060430?) 'desktop' cd.

Has happened twice, going in for the thrid go now.

Ran installer and from desktop with these steps:
* selected manually partition
* created a root partition, and swap, (these are to be formatted) and asked to
re-use /home parition w/o formatting
* Continue to the end of the installer
* begins creating partitions then comes up with 'no root file system' dialouge
* pressed okay, dialouge stops at 15% (left for an hour, no change)

fdisk -l, after rebooting from failed install, shows the partitions were
created. However, starting up the installer again, the partitioning screen
shows /dev/sda2 (was going to be root), as 'unknown' type.

[Bug 42003] Re: no root file system

2006-05-01 Thread Joel Stanley
update from previous post:

I tried two things differently this time (realised just then should have tried
one then the other):

1) pre-formatted root and swap using gparted (inside livecd session)

2) when you arrive at the mountpoint setup screen, the swap partition was
listed first. I re-ordered them so root was first.

Both seem quite trivial, considering that the installer re-formatted the
partitins anyway, but something clicked to make things work.

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

I had this problem a few weeks ago, removed the ev-summary file and thought it
was done with, but it just came back. Removing only the inbox ev-summary file
didn't help either. I had to remove all ev-summary files. Yes, I disabled the
email accounts and I put it in offline mode.

I have 2 accounts. One local account that's set up to check in
/var/spool/mail/ubuntu and sends with sendmail (actually postfix ofcourse), and
the other account only sends email, through the GMail SMTP. I recieve mail
locally with fetchmail. Biff is enabled, but last time it wasn't.

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2006-05-01 Thread Paul van Genderen
It seems persistant now. After opening Evolution for the second time, it came
back again, as soon as I switched it to online mode. The difference is that I
had new email (the above comment). I've also noticed emails are duplicated each
time the error appears (like the inital reporter). When I had this a few weeks
ago, I had a couple of thousand new emails, because automatic background
checking was enabled and I just shrugged and dismissed the error, left it alone
for a while, not realising how quickly new emails piled up. After clicking away
error after error I googled for a solution. Fortunately, this time there are
only about 350 new emails.

But I'm now a bit afraid of using Evolution, even though it has grown on me and
I kinda depend on it now.

[Bug 42254] Re: Doesn't return from system tray

2006-05-01 Thread Guillaume Desmottes
/apps/xchat/plugins/notification/persistant is deprecated. It's replaced by the
level key.

With the level set to 3, the tray icon should be displayed only for important
messages (query, nick citation or word highlighting).
So it should not be displayed automatically at startup. Does it?

Furthermore, clicking on the tray icon shoud hide x-g only when your level is
set to 0.
Are you sure you're using the notification plugin from the Dapper package
(0.11)?
Check with gconftool-2 -g /apps/xchat/plugins/loaded.

[Bug 42333] Totem playlists look for files in home directory instead of playlist directory

2006-05-01 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
Public bug reported:

Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I'm using dapper 20060501
totem-xine 1.4.0-0ubuntu5

I have some videos on my desktop in ogg format.
I created a playlist of them in totem and saved this playlist to the desktop.
When I close totem and click on the playlist on my desktop I'm unable to play
the videos. I'm getting this error:
Totem could not play 'file:///home/pascal/transparancy.ogg'.
The specified movie could not be found.
This error indicates that totem looks in /home/pascal while it should look in
/home/pascal/Desktop.
I'm using totem-xine but I have the same error with totem-gstreamer too.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download a few videos (e.g. mpg or ogg from
http://www.novell.com/linux/xglrelease/) and save them on the desktop (in my
case /home/pascal/Desktop).
2. Open these videos with totem and create a playlist of them.
3. Save the playlist on the desktop.

Description:
Description of the crash:

Steps to reproduce the crash:
That's difficult if guess, but I will try anything when asked.
1. Cold-boot

a XP3200+, nvidia fx5200. (this what you mean by architecture?

I filed it under the gnome-panel, cause after it crashed, I'm asked if I
want to reload the applets I'm running on the panel.

Do you have another suggestion how to find the right package?

2006/5/1, Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Thanks for your bug. What is WindowNavigationApplets and where did you
find it (dpkg -S WindowNavigationApplets should tell you if it's
shipped by a package)? What architecture do you use?

[Bug 40340] Re: Drivemount applet shows my root and boot partition

2006-05-01 Thread felix.rommel
Had a closer look which partitions are mounted under /boot and /1 - these are
/dev/hda1 and /dev/hda8 which are not the Dapper / and /boot partitions.

This means that the Dapper / and /boot Partitions are NOT shown in the
Drivemount applet - so I was wrong with that.

But as I wrote in my initial post the behaviour of how Dapper shows mounted
partitions changed between Flight versions. As far as I remember older Dapper
Flights did not show partitions like other root filesystem partitions in the
drivemount applet...

That made me wonder since they appeared in the applet and that's why I posted
this report.

But if this is your preferred way how Dapper shall show other mounted
partitions everything is OK and this bug report is invalid.

Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu)

Description:

Hello Adam,

that's preety unusual. In fact, I've never seen this kind of behaviour in
evolution unless in certain messages, but no complete system lockup (this makes
me think of hardware error).

Adam, there used to exist a bug about evolution locking up when you open some
message - it will lock even when you open it again with that message is
selected - and the lockup will go away if you remove that message using some
other mail client. But it was obsoleted - see

Generally I'm developer and I can try to debug it, but I need some tips
about using valgrind and how to rebuild package. If you have any links
it would be helpfull.

[Bug 42333] Re: Totem playlists look for files in home directory instead of playlist directory

I don't think so - I've opened a bug on the issue upstream.

[Bug 42386] No menu entry for deleting from library

2006-05-01 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
You can right-click on a song and select the appropriate entry to remove
it from the library, but I couldn't find that entry in the menus
anywhere. This is confusing especially as there is a menu entry to move
the selected files to trash (see below).

(There _is_ an entry in the Edit menu to move the selected songs to
trash, which is what I did (assuming stupidly that it clears the
playlist), which moved all my song files from their respective folders
into trash. I had assumed it'd just clear the playlist without touching
the file system.

I couldn't find a way to move the songs back to their own folders, but
that's probably a trash bug, not RB.)

[Bug 19548] Re: disk-mounter applet cannot unmount cdroms

2006-05-01 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Daniel: this is quite a specific use case, not a common one. This
probably doesn't belong to ubuntu (explain better: not a ubuntu bug), so
it should be posted upstream, what do you think?

[Bug 42391] Wish: Start items in drawer applet with one click

2006-05-01 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
The behaviour of the drawer panel applet needs 2 clicks at the moment to
start items in it. This is one click too much.

In earlier versions you could click on the drawer panel icon, move the
mouse over the item you wanna start and release the mouse button. This
was much faster and more a Unix/Linux feeling when working.

The current behaviour of having to click the drawer icon, release the
mouse button, wait until the drawer opens and click again on an item to
start it reminds me too much on another operating system...
