[Bug 70686] Re: Nautilus crashed trying to copy 4.3 Gig .iso file to Fat32
I found this on wikipedia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table#FAT32 "The maximum possible size for a file on a FAT32 volume is 4 GiB minus 2 B. For most users, this has become the most nagging limit of FAT32 as of 2005, since video capture and editing applications and some other software can easily exceed this limit. Most new windows machines now ship with NTFS and thus avoid these problems but those who run dual boot systems or who move external data drives between computers with different operating systems have little choice but to stick with FAT32 (although between Windows and Linux it is possible to use ext2 through the use of external drivers such as ext2 IFS" -- Nautilus crashed trying to copy 4.3 Gig .iso file to Fat32 https://launchpad.net/bugs/70686 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 70682] Nautilus crashes when trying to move large files from one drive to another.
Public bug reported: Nautilus crashes when trying to move large files (4+ GB) from one drive to another. I have three HDD's, HDA has three partitions (HDA1 is (NTFS) Windows; HDA2 is Ubuntu and HDA3 is Swap Space), HDB (NTFS) is an 80GB internal storage drive, SDA (FAT32) is an external 40GB storage drive. All HDD's have enough free space to store the files I am trying to move. I am trying to move two files, both are around 4GB large. I am trying to move them from HDA1 to SDA; could the error be because Ubuntu cannot properly handle NTFS-FAT32 file transfers properly yet? ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Nautilus crashes when trying to move large files from one drive to another. https://launchpad.net/bugs/70682 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 61381] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login
I can confirm this bug too - I've just done a fresh install of Edgy from CD (tried it twice) and I get it every time. However, here's the twist for me: I ONLY get it when I connect to my box through VNC. (I'm using TightVNC - not sure if that matters) If I simply login at the console, there's no problems. But through VNC, I get it every time. Also, I don't get the slowdown that others are reporting. When I connect through VNC and it starts the session, it starts up rapidly - but the most obvious problem (aside from the error message) is that the UI is no longer the nice Ubuntu "human" theme, it's the ugly default gnome theme. It's also apparent that certain UI settings are not working. If I try to change the theme, I get the "gnome settings daemon" error message again and it doesn't allow me to change it. Since I primarily use this machine as a headless workstation, not having the correct UI theme and settings is really a bummer. If there's any other info I can provide please let me know. -- gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login https://launchpad.net/bugs/61381 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 70637] BugBuddy should not run if the system is swapping
Public bug reported: My edgy machine was swapping, a lot, because I was running a memory- hungry python script. Working in a terminal, I accidentally hit F1 as I was trying to kill the script on a very slow-responding system. The system tried to run the gnome help application. It didn't run properly, maybe because of the lack of memory. But, the issue was made worse because bug-buddy insisted on hooking gdb into the process thus keeping both it and bug- buddy around. So, I'd like to suggest that there is no point in bug-buddy running when an application has failed due to lack of memory, and that bug-buddy should take a look to see if the system is swapping a lot before deciding if it should actually run. ** Affects: bug-buddy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- BugBuddy should not run if the system is swapping https://launchpad.net/bugs/70637 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 70143] Re: List view broken
I guess I should have been clearer. Edgy upgraded from Dapper. The original jumping off point was the default Dapper desktop which was upgraded to Edgy. I'll attach my screenshot first. Steps I used to get it. 1) open xterm so I can see .xsession-errors. Double-click on Computer icon to open nautilus window. Double-click on filesystem icon, opening another nautilus window. Go back to computer window. Change view from icon to list and nothing shows up. Compare the two windows. Only the view has been changed between them. I'll attach my xsession-errors next since I can only attach one thing at a time and I'm not sure you can see the text well enough in the screenshot. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot of problem" http://librarian.launchpad.net/4972943/nautilus_bug.png -- List view broken https://launchpad.net/bugs/70143 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 70535] Re: Nautilus copy to USB hard drive crashed
Aha! This is *not* a 'cp' or Nautilus bug, per se -- I think this is a problem with this USB hard drive. Now the question is, is it a particular idiosyncrasy with this external drive, or is it a fundamental limitation of USB technology? (If the latter, then Nautilus --and 'cp'?-- would be improved by refusing any attempts to transfer files >= 4GB to a USB device, perhaps suggesting that the file be split first.) -- Nautilus copy to USB hard drive crashed https://launchpad.net/bugs/70535 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 70618] Unable to login after session crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Sometimes it happens that my session crashes, and I cannot log in again unless I log in using a virtual console and kill all the stuck gnome programs. In my opinion, these programs should die with the X session because you can't take control of them again. The responsible process seems to be gconfd, but I am not sure, however it's not that much user friendly: a newbie will only be able to reboot his machine. [Bug 62990] Re: HAL fails to initialize on ASUS A6 series notebooks
That is strange. On my notebook blacklisting asus_acpi really does help... maybe it only works on the A6Km. :/ Could you try blacklisting some of the other acpi modules? You can find them all in the directory below. You also need to add seperate lines in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist for every module... otherwise only the first module is counted for. /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/acpi Since hald is hanging on acpi lid, the button acpi module is a good candidate. I tried this on my notebook and got rid of the hal error. This also disabled suspend / hibernate functions, which I guess is the expected behaviour. Maybe you could even try booting with noacpi - just to see if the hal error message disappears. -- HAL fails to initialize on ASUS A6 series notebooks https://launchpad.net/bugs/62990 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

If I print a postscript file from the command line with lpr, then I do get double-sided output. ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Duplex printing permanently disabled in edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/70576 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 70573] gnome-settings-daemon asks an incomprehensible question
Public bug reported: See attached screenshot. On login, gnome-settings-daemon finds that the X and GNOME keyboard settings are different, shows the differences, and asks which I want to use. Unfortunately it uses different terminology in the description ("expected" vs. "found") and the buttons it gives you to press ("X settings", "GNOME settings"). It's impossible to figure out which button to press based on this information because you don't know which is "expected" and which was "found". ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- gnome-settings-daemon asks an incomprehensible question https://launchpad.net/bugs/70573 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 58575] nautilus+ftp ubuntu freeze when dialog box appear and dragging a file
Public bug reported: I have two nautilus windows opened. In the first window I have local folder with two files in it (index.php, browse.php). In the second window I have opened a ftp folder, where i have an older versions of those files (index.php, browse.php). When I drag & drop the index.php from the local folder to ftp, a dialog box appear after few seconds, (dialog box asking me if I want to replace file). That's normal, but when i drag & drop index.php to ftp and then quickly drag browse.php to ftp, dialog box appear while I'm dragging that browse.php. I cannot click anything, only move mouse around screen with browse.php file sticked on cursor. Then i have to press Ctrl+alt+delete to restart X server. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- nautilus+ftp ubuntu freeze when dialog box appear and dragging a file https://launchpad.net/bugs/58575 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 60791] shortcuts don't endure
Public bug reported: hi, Subject: Ubuntu 6.06 i attempted to make my own or additive shortcuts for gthumb. First i have enabled it in this window = http://i9.tinypic.com/404mujl.png. After that i open gthumb, open the menu, go to the menu title and press the shortcut (fe. "Speichern unter" at gthumb = Strg+Shift+S). But after every New Start of the Programm my created shortcuts were deleted, are not there. It certains gthumb, easytag or others. When i do my own shortcuts such as on gedit, that works. After a new Start my shortcuts still there. I don't know if it is a bug, but we talked about it at ubuntusers-Forum http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/47917/# and the others said maybe its a bug. Sorry for my bad English Regards, Steev ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- shortcuts don't endure https://launchpad.net/bugs/60791 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
