2007-08-12 Thread Jeff Fortin
actually no, I did some more testing, and the feed reader extension is
not the problem. The problem is the "creative commons license viewer"
extension, and I'm pretty sure about that. At least that solved the
problem in my case. What about you?

[Bug 132116] maximized windows do not close when "X" is clicked

2007-08-12 Thread dachinster
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Open a window, any window such as click Places>Home Folder
Maximize this window
Try to close the window by clicking the "X" in the top right (next to maximize
and minimize)
Instead of closing the active window, the window becomes de-selected and the
title bar turns opaque indicating that the window is no longer the active
window and the window remains open.
The only way to close the window via the GUI is to right-click the window in
the taskbar and select close OR right click the window and select unmaximize
and only then, will you be able to use the "X" to close the window

A side effect of the active window deselecting and not closing is that
if there is another window directly behind the active window you are
trying to close, often times, the window behind will close when you
click "X"

[Bug 41335] Re: DVD playing is not working correctly with totem-gstreamer

2007-08-12 Thread Christian Sasso
Hi, I have the same problem on my Ubuntu/Dell XPS 410: generally DVDs
play just fine in auto-play, but if I stop the playing and then try to
'Play Disk' it gives me the "do not have the correct plug-ins to handle
it." Finally, also for me typing "# totem dvd://1" from a a terminal
works flawlessly all the times. By the look of it (it works in auto-play
and from a terminal using "# totem dvd://1", but "Play Disk" doesn't) it
seems more like a minor problem to fix that has nothing to do with the
proper plug-ins being installed. This is my very first bug report, but I
couldn't try to follow up upstream if some gentle soul would indicate my
the way to :-)

[Bug 132090] Evolution cannot migrate user data to new machine

2007-08-12 Thread martinlanghoff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This is a serious limitation in upstream Evolution - when migrating my
homedir from a laptop to another, or using a shared homedir over the
network on different workstations.

This seems to be caused by Evolution's use of gconf for storage.

To repro:
 - as root, create users user_a and user_b
 - login as user_a, open evo, create a profile, add some calendar entries,
addressbook entries, configure an email server, fetch some emails
 - logout
 - as root, copy ~user_a/.evolution to ~user_b/.evolution
 - as root, chown -R user_b.user_b ~user_b/.evolution
 - login as user_b
 - open evolution
= Expected: pop/imap settings copied over, calendar entries, etc.

There is a hackish procedure reported here
http://marc.info/?l=evolution&m=110880893342173&w=2

For bonus points, make user_a and user_b on separate computers with
different endian-ness (ppc?). According to this thread
http://marc.info/?l=evolution&m=110880893442208&w=2 the addressbook
binary format is not portable.

[Bug 132086] YouTube videos make rhythmbox erratic

2007-08-12 Thread cactaur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This bug was in Ubuntu Feisty with Rhythmbox 0.10.0, Swiftfox 2.0.0.3,
and Flash 9.0.48.0.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Firefox

2. Start Rhythmbox.

3. Play any YouTube video.

4. Start playing Rhythmbox

What should happen:

Rhythmbox and the video should play at the same time with no problems.

What happens:

The Youtube video continues playing, but Rhythmbox does not. When you
look at the progression of the song, it is abnormally fast and
irregular.

Debugging Output:

This is the output I got from 'rhythmbox -d' from when I started playing
Rhythmbox while the video was playing, until the output stopped.

[Bug 132085] libgstreamer0.10-0 dependant on non-essential packages?

2007-08-12 Thread Allan MacKinnon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgstreamer0.10-0

I'm trying to solve dependency irregularities so I open Synaptic every
now and then and see what 'completely removing' packages does.

Trying to uninstall libgstreamer0.10-plugins-base-0.10 or
libgstreamer0.10-0 I noticed that it also tries to remove:

alacarte
nautilus
openoffice
libwxbase2.8-0
libwxgtk2.8-0

These packages should not be dependent on any gstreamer packages so why
are they being removed with it?

There must be a dependency error somewhere.

[Bug 25002] Re: Codes shown in Gnome Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts

2007-08-12 Thread Trouilliez vincent
Wowww, I had given on that one, nice to see some activity !! :o)

Yes, I too can confirm that in 2 years, each and every Ubuntu version,
stable or alpha, has never stopped to show weird hex codes. So indeed,
seeing the bug status as "invalid", is weird at best. Should be
"confirmed" or something iike that...

Mnemo, thanks for filing it upstream in Gnome BTS, though I can't believe it
wasn't already filed ?!
I think that Malone has a feature where you can track the upstream bug report
(which you just filed), but I don't know how to do it, and I probably don't
have the privilege to do it anyway...

Would be nice to fix this bug, would definitely add some "polish" to the
user interface, which I thought was one of Ubuntu's main goal...

Here is hoping ! ;-)

[Bug 131182] Re: search applet has inconsidered list of searches

2007-08-12 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
Isn't this very much related to all those other usability bugs in the new
version of deskbar?
If need, I don't mind posting separate bug-reports about all usability issues
(besides it launching a window). Lack of intelligent keyboard control comes to
mind, as well do focus and resizing issues.

I'm glad to hear they are actively working to make it fix up the
usability. The window thing wouldn't be a very big thing if it worked
nicely. For reference, see: http://code.google.com/p/affinity-search/

Which does use a window, but does not get in the way.

[Bug 131446] Re: [gutsy]Deskbar results appears in a window

2007-08-12 Thread Steeley
Another vote for the previous version back. The new interface has been
poorly thought out and achieves nothing over the old style (and the lack
of choice about being able to choose between the old and new style is
strange).

In my opinion, if the developer refuses to at least provide an option
for the old style, then it might as well be removed from the default
Gutsy install.

[Bug 106939] Re: (update-desktop-database:12124): core dump

2007-08-12 Thread Andreas Hochsteger
I don't know how they got corrupted, but it may have been caused by hangs
during major filesystem activity.
Since I deleted them I can't provide some sample files, but I remember that
there was one without a section header (e.g. "[Desktop Entry]") and trunkated
at a random point (or at the end of a sector).
The other one consisted of just unreadable binary content (obviously from
another file).
A simple plausibility check or validation of the file content would prevent
such problems in the future.

I have encountered this problem also. I normally use the "Happy GNOME

[Bug 132054] can't create new keyring

2007-08-12 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring-manager

This is about Ubuntu Gutsy, freshly updated.

I can't create any new keyrings (including the default one, if there are
none) with the gnome keyring manager. When I try to create a new keyring
(menu Keyring>New Keyring) the new name is added to the keyrings list,
but it's not accessible. I get a "Gnome-Keyring-Manager-WARNING **:
Failed to get keyring info." error in the console.

I've snooped around through the sources a bit, and as far as I can tell:

(1) create_keyring_callback in gnome-keyring-manager-keyring-manager.c receives
a (correct) GnomeKeyringResult of GNOME_KEYRING_RESULT_OK, which should
indicate that adding the keyring was successful, but then
(2) it runs gkm_keyring_manager_update_keyring_info on the new keyring, which
(3) runs gnome_keyring_get_info on it, and
(4) update_keyring_info_worker_callback receives a
GNOME_KEYRING_RESULT_NO_SUCH_KEYRING status.

Which doesn't seem right to me.

[Bug 132034] soundjuicer should use F2 to enter track information

2007-08-12 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

Hello,
entering new track information in Soundjuicer should be more accessible with
keys:
Soundjuicer should therefore use F2 to enter new unknown track information.

The manual states:

"To edit the title of a track, first select the track, then click on the
title. When you have finished entering the title, press the Enter key
on your keyboard, or click outside the title."

Please try to use F2 to get the cursor into the title of a track. After
pressing Enter the cursor should automatically go into the next title
field to let the user enter the information for the next track.

=> F2 / Enter is very common for such cases for instances in spread

[Bug 84722] Re: deskbar-applet requires too many keystrokes

2007-08-12 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
Didn't this bug just became 'wont fix' ..?

Since the new direction of deskbar is to require as many key-presses
intertwined with mouse-clicks and annoying pauses from launching another
window?

I mean, at this point, we'll all just be happy if they restored the
previous behavior.

Although I totally agree with the author of the bug-report, that no
category-labels .. and some short-cuts would be great..

[Bug 38986] Re: beagle should replace search tool if installed

2007-08-12 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
I've created a bug-report about to request the same behavior for
tracker-search-tool, since tracker is now being shipped by default on
Gutsy.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/131964

// Off-Topic -- Reply to Sebastien //

Sebastien.. i think i actually saw a search tool exactly like you
describe. It's called catfish. See:

  http://software.twotoasts.de/?page=catfish

It's in the universe repository. It supports multiple search back-ends: find,
(s)locate, beagle & tracker.
Perhaps that package too, should replace the search-for-files entry in the
places menu when installed.

Maybe these choices need to dealt with like other alternatives (such as
default browser, email, java-vm, etc.).

[Bug 131964] "search for files.." entry in gnome-menu should launch tracker-search-tool

2007-08-12 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

With up to date Gutsy, tracker is installed by default.
Yet the "Search for Files.." entry on the places menu still launches
gnome-search-tool.

When you install Beagle, beagle-search takes over that menu-entry in the places
menu.
See also, the bug about that:
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/38986

This wishlist-bug was fixed, and I think, considering the choice to
install tracker by default, it is even more important that this behavior
is duplicated for tracker.
