[Bug 159442] evolution: double clicking on message area while finding text in an email crashes evolution

2007-11-02 Thread Amit Tendulkar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

It seems that this bug is reproducible only on HTML messages (and not in
plain text messages)

Steps to reproduce,
- Double click any HTML format email message
- In the email message window press Ctrl+Shift+F to bring the find text toolbar
- Put in any findable text (in find text tool bar) and click (find) 'next'
button several times
- Double click on any text besides the highlighted text
- Notice that evolution has crashed.

Well thanks for the explanation. I thought the file is ok since Xpdf and

suddenly returns to console saying something like "the program caught
SIGTTUI" and repeats that anytime I type fg or cont. Can anybody explain

2007-11-02 Thread Robert Dzikowski
I don't know if I am going to do that because I switched to a better program -
Miro ;-)
Miro has one advantage over Rhythmbox - it can resume playback of a media file
from the point where it was stopped.
But email me when you correct all the bugs, especially
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/148646, and implement
this feature so maybe I will switch back to Rhythmbox.

to
trackno = int(track['trackno'])
if trackno >= 0:

[Bug 124315] remember window position of applications

2007-11-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Open firefox or thunderbird. Move the window. Quit the application. Open the
application again. The window is back over on the left again.
The mozilla team leaves window positioning to the window manager on unix/linux
systems:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31086

The advanced settings to enable Gnome to remember window positions is not
available at the place these instructions say they were a year ago:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-36505.html%3C/t-199815.html

A similar ubuntu bug was reported earlier, but it was about firefox only, and
it is already marked as having been fixed in Feb., however, I am seeing the
issue today using Feisty, which was released in April:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/65841

One possible workaround is using Devil's Pie:
http://www.burtonini.com/blog/computers/devilspie
which requires hand editing xml files and creating pattern matching filter
rules.

[Bug 159477] MaxSessions is set to 16 regardless of configured setting

2007-11-02 Thread Steve Jackson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

GDM in Gutsy Edubuntu ignores the MaxSessions and MaxPending settings in
gdm.conf-custom, and uses the default values of 16 and 4 respectively.

To reproduce:
1. Go to system->administration->login window
2. Go to 'Remote' tab and click 'Configure XDMCP...'
3. Change settings for Maximum pending requests and Maximum remote sessions,
then click 'Close'.
4. Go to 'Security' tab and check 'Enable debug messages to system log', then
click 'Close'.
5. Verify the setting are present in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom.
6. Logout and restart gdm (not truly necessary but I did it)
7. Attempt to connect from a remote XDMCP client.
8. Log in locally and start system->administration->system log
9. Filter syslog for 'MaxSession' and observe the limits quoted are 16 and 4
regardless.

I have observed this with both gdm 2.20.0-0ubuntu6 from gutsy and
2.20.1-0ubuntu1 from gutsy-proposed.

This prevents my classroom of 10 terminals all connecting using XDMCP at
once - they can only do it in groups of 4. Once connected, the next
batch can connect, and so on. It also prevents simultaneous connection
of more than 16 terminals.

These settings if set in in gdm-cdd.conf and gdm.conf are also ignored
(I know this is bad practice, it was just for testing).

Hi there
Do you install the firmware for this card using the "restricted manager" ?,
anyway i don't thinks this has anything to do with gnome-nettool, but since i
can't identify the right package yet, i think it wont harm anyone if we keep it
for now

in:
UUID=567ECDF67ECDCF45 /media/sda2 ntfs-3g defaults,locale=it_IT.utf8 0 1

and all is OK.
Then, changing the permission, my problem is solved (the modify time is
preserved).

For my external USB NTFS drive, i'am not problems (the modify time is

The bug is auto-SOLVED partially.

@ Szabolcs:
Remain a portion of the bug:
Ubuntu must set by default the /etc/fstab for existing NTFS drive, using

Please, can You search the correct project to solve this?

[Bug 159553] "applications, places, system" not translated

2007-11-02 Thread Mark Van den Borre
Public bug reported:

When I install 7.10, most gnome menu items are localised. Translations
reside in .desktop files in /usr/share/applications.

"Applications, Places, System" main menu items in the gnome panel on the
other hand are not localised. Translations for these seem to reside in
the respective language packs. They are the most visible menu items on
the desktop.

Having the translations included would offer _a lot_ of extra comfort to
new users who have no connection to the internet when first installing.

[Bug 126825] Re: external Seagate FreeAgent disk doesn't auto mount

2007-11-02 Thread unggnu
I have made some tests. There seem to be two problems. One is a Kernel/Hal
problem and the other a Gnome-Vfs but the first one isn't so important if the
second one gets fixed.
If I unmount a Seagate Freeagent disk under Gnome it works fine but it has no
power button.
1. Freeagent Controller shuts down the hard disk after a short period and it is
shut down completely if I remove USB connection but if I connect the USB cable
again hard disk starts but it doesn't get mounted. It is recognized and can be
mounted manually but not automatically. This happens under Gnome and KDE.
2. But KDE/Kubuntu hasn't this problem since it unmounts the volume but doesn't
remove the desktop hard disk icon. So I can mount the hard disk again without
removing USB cable and since Seagate has an own controller which shut down and
restart hard disk it works fine and I guess that was the plan. It is kind of
uncomfortable to always remove the cable or restart system to get access to the
hard disk.
So I can just click on my hard disk icon on the Desktop in KDE hard disk powers
up and gets mounted which is great. The mount status of a disk is shown with a
green arrow on the side of the icon.
Btw. this happens for all hard disks but KDE is in Gutsy still able to remove
USB sticks so the led runs out. (unmount for harddisks and eject for usb
sticks, makes sense)

[Bug 75254] Re: XDMCP not working in ipv6, gdm should be compiled with --enable-ipv6=yes

2007-11-02 Thread JanCeuleers
The trouble is that with this fix it now no longer works using IPv4.

A quick Google search suggests that it is known that GDM's XDMCP does
not simultaneously support IPv4 and IPv6. The above fix has therefore
broken IPv4 support.

Can you make available separate binary packages for IPv4 and IPv6 users?

[Bug 156292] Re: I get visual notifications of new mail despite requesting no notifications

2007-11-02 Thread hggdh
I will have a look as soon as possible on the plugin source, and see if
there is need for an upstream bug. Of course, anyone else with time
availble can do the same. Upstream researach can also help.

Right now I see this bug as having two options: goes to INVALID because
it ends up as not-a-bug (the plugin was active), or indeed the code
tries, and fails, to set the gconf entries above. I am keeping it open
on the chance the code is wrong.

[Bug 151544] Re: [Gutsy] GNOME takes too much time to load during system boot

2007-11-02 Thread Dan
Same problem here, HP Compaq NX7400 laptop. At least 30 secs between login and
usable desktop. This is new, in Feisty this prob didn't exist. Interestingly, I
don't use 64 bit, since the CPU isn't capable of this. So I guess the cause of
the prob is something different.
Looking at dmesg, it seems to have something to do with the network interface:

On gutsy's kde menu, the "Keyring Manager" menu entry (found under both
'Utilities' and 'System') does not have an icon. The desktop file of
gnome-keyring-manager specifies "stock_keyring" for the icon; a file by
this name is available from the gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-

[Bug 159619] Multihead regression: gnome-terminal gets $DISPLAY confused sometimes

2007-11-02 Thread GiuseppeVerde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I have 3 screens on my desktop: :0.0, :0.1, and :0.2. When I initially
launch gnome-terminal from the launcher on the top gnome-panel, gnome-
terminal pops up and $DISPLAY is properly set. However, after switching
around on my (broken; see bug 159615) workspace switcher using
CTRL+ALT+RIGHTARROW, $DISPLAY becomes set to :0.0. I'm not sure exactly
when it happens. Launching urxvt from a launcher on the Panel sets
$DISPLAY properly. This may be related to the breakage described in bug
159615. This worked properly in Feisty.

[Bug 159621] multihead bug: gnome-screensaver fails to detect keyboard, mouse activity on screens :0.1, :0.2

2007-11-02 Thread GiuseppeVerde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I have a 3-screen workstation setup, with screens :0.0, :0.1, and :0.2.
gnome-screensaver fails to detect activity on screens :0.1 and :0.2,
although activity on :0.0 is properly noticed. "Activity" is defined
here as keyboard and mouse button pushing and mouse motion. After the 2
minutes gnome-screensaver is set to are up, keyboard input is grabbed
for a split second. I believe this is while it activates the fading to
screensaver. The keyboard input is then noticed and keyboard input
comes back after a moment. Mouse motion is not noticed at all, nor are
mouse button pushes. This problem was also present in feisty.

I have verified that this is a gnome-screensaver bug instead of an X
server inactivity problem, as disabling X screensaver works properly
(i.e. switching to black ONLY happens when mouse and keyboard are
inactive). I have a guess as to why this occurs, as it looks like
gnome-screensaver watches all keyboard and mouse and window activity
instead of asking the X server about inactivity as it (IMHO should).

This bug is terribly annoying as I must either turn off the screensaver
(and leave my workstation unlocked) or else put up with a second or two
of suspended keyboard input every fading cycle (there have been 3 or so
while I've been typing this bug report).

[Bug 119521] Re: r/w error on sony ericsson w880i

2007-11-02 Thread unggnu
Do you have unmounted the phone and waited until the data was written to
disk. Often it takes longer than the progress bar but normally Ubuntu
would warn you with a message box the data is written if you unmount it.

[Bug 146946] Re: [gutsy] Gnome settings daemon does randomly not work

2007-11-02 Thread Forceflow
I can confirm this too.

Been using Gutsy for 2 weeks now, this is the first time it happened.
Rebooting solved the problem.

[Bug 61479] Re: no dialog to make panel fullwidth on Twinview or Xinerama

2007-11-02 Thread Eythian
@aglet: It does that by default, however you have to have X starting
with two monitors attached, and Twinview enabled in xorg.conf. If you
don't do this, then gnome never realises that you have two screens, and
puts the panels across both of them. It's a bit of a pain to set up, but
once it's working you can switch layout freely, and the panels are
always on one monitor only.

2007-11-02 Thread mpo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 26198 ***

I just had the chance to test this with Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) which runs gnome
2.20.0 (build date 09/17/2007)
The problem described here persists.

[Bug 151544] Re: [Gutsy] GNOME takes too much time to load during system boot

Although I do have a 64 bit CPU I'm NOT using the 64 bit version of
Ubuntu and I still get this problem. It worked fine with Fiesty but
after upgrading to Gutsy it is slow.

[Bug 26198] Re: Nautilus Thumbnail creation freeze system

2007-11-02 Thread Yann Rouillard
mpo was able to reproduce this bug under gutsy (see
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/117830/comments/11
) and I successfully reproduced it under hardy, so I think this bug
should be reopened (but the subject could be changed, only Nautilus is
unresponsive during a long time)
