Re: [Bug 151986] Re: Instalation of j2re doesn't complete
I have managed to solve it for me. Try this and let me know how you fare. Completely uninstall old version that was manually installed. Open terminal enter: sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list and enter password Then enter wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt- key add - && sudo apt-get update When finished, Open Synaptic Package Manager Click Reload (or click edit, reload package information) and wait for details to download Search Package Manager for "Google" Select "googleearth" and "googleearth-data" Click "apply" Google Earth should then install putting an icon in "Applications, Internet" Enjoy! [Bug 132612] Re: memory leak in evince?
I can also confirm this bug on Gutsy. As with others here, on Feisty Evince was reasonable, but on Gutsy things are out of control. I simply cannot use Evince (I am using xpdf for now). One example is a 2.6MB PDF (I can post it here if it can help), that when opened in Evince causes 300+ MB of resident memory to be used (and I can actually see the memory taken up and swap space being utilized - this isn't a misreading of memory usage due to caching/buffers). After initial load, memory usage goes down to 200 MB, but jumps back up to 300MB+ (and 100% CPU) as I scroll. On my 512 MB system, this behavior basically sends everything else into swap, and the system is nearly unusable. Note that even the 200MB that it 'stabilizes' on when not scrolling is bad enough. -- memory leak in evince? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132612 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup
@Sebastian: I consider Arch fast since it takes 20 seconds to load Gnome using that. It takes 37 seconds using Ubuntu, so something is slowing Ubuntu down. No, I'm not using deskbar, it is simply too slow to load. Also, it does not make sense to compare your load times with mine, since I'm using an old laptop. I'm wondering why the importance is set to Low, when this affects a lot users everyday. -- [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 75375] Re: [time-admin] clock applet context menu doesn't allow "Adjust Date & Time"
still NOT fixed - I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 with all updates as of today and am still unable to set the time: When I right-click on the time applet in my panel and choose "adjust date + time", I enter my root pw and are presented with the time dialog. I want to set the time one hour in advance - I click on the up arrow next to the hour and to increase the hour by one - but after about 1-2 seconds, the hour jumps back to what it was! I have set the synchronize option to "manual" - plus when I try setting it to "keep synchronized with internet servers" I get an error that ntp is not installed - so the problem can't be that it is a ntp server changing the time. This is really annoying - I ran into the "sudo timestamp too far in the future" bug after my Ubuntu switched to winter time (hmm, how did that happen if ntp isn't installed???) - so I can't issue any sudo commands in the terminal until I change the time. So I thought I'd just change the time with the "adjust date and time" applet to regain sudo access, but this doesn't work either. Either gksudo is also affected by the root timestamp issue but won't tell me (but then the applet should fail to load, right?) and that's the reason why it won't update the time, OR there is something else buggy. -- [time-admin] clock applet context menu doesn't allow "Adjust Date & Time" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/75375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

additional info: I fixed the sudo timestamp issue - but when I call sudo time-admin, I am still unable to adjust the time. Re: [Bug 122602] Re: Duplicated entries in Places Menu
In terms of the problem being painted over with reasonable success such that the problem being unearthed may be blamed on the user instead of erroneous system design, it is solved. However, I request that another bug or blueprint, destined for Hardy, be opened that explains the problem of these disagreeing Places menus. Try this: Create a bookmark to every location that is missing in every Places list in Ubuntu. (That is Nautilus, the file opener widget and gnome-panel). Count the duplicates in each menu. The other problem this causes is a more simple case of accessibility. The user should be able to anticipate the contents of the Places menus to be all identical, just as he can expect every window to have a Close button. After all, those menus all show the same bookmarks and have the same title! However, for everything that is not a bookmark, this is certainly not the case... We have a perfectly good global bookmarks system; let's use it for the more rigid places as well. (Perhaps the bookmarks that aren't usually edited could placed in /etc, which is a globally accessible application). [Bug 157780] Re: gnome-session-save scew up session file
Ok here some more informations. I discovered some strange behaviour about gnome-session-save. YOu can see in the gutsy generated session file that xfwm4 is set as default manager with no reason. However for an odd reason the desktop > gnome > application > window_manager > current Gcong key was set to /usr/bin/xfwm4 which could explain the error. Anyway this clearly demonstrate that the gnome-session-save command is not looking for the WM your are using but is looking to the Gconf key which like i shown can be wrong. Please try to reproduce this on your computer, set the desktop > gnome > application > window_manager > current Gconf key to something else than your current WM and check that gnome-session-save will take in consideration your Gconf key and not your current WM. Then change your WM and check that the Gconf key (like i guess) is not updated. I'm pretty sure to have located the problem now, thanks to anyone who can confirm this. -- gnome-session-save scew up session file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 147298] Re: AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured
Audio works on my system (hda-intel, gutsy). However, when trying the sound capture test from the Sound preferences in Ubuntu, I get the Failed to construct test pipeline for 'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat' error. However, even when I get the error dialog, the sound capture test actually works. When I run the test manually with gst-launch as Pavel showed, the sound capture test works without any working. Therefore, the error message "Failed to construct test pipeline..." should probably not be taken at face value to figure out if sound capture works or not. My suggestion is that if "aplay -l" shows that Alsa has found your HDA Intel device, then tinker with the volume control settings. [Bug 160047] evolution 'local delivery' mode fails to work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution On an Ubuntu Gutsy default install. With evolution-2.12.1-0ubuntu1, and evolution-data-server-1.12.1-0ubuntu1, set up an email account using 'local delivery', selecting the default /var/mail as your path (note that you cannot select /var/mail/$USER, and that doing so was not necessary in older versions of evolution). When done, press the 'send/receive' button. Result will be 'Error while Fetching Mail. Could not open mail file /var/mail: Is a directory'. Furthermore, you will see that you can select the 'account' you created in the side bar. Selecting the account, and going to the '$USER' folder results in an error 'cannot create lock file for /var/mail/$USER: Permission denied'. Changing the permissions on /var/mail to 2777 'fixes' the problem, but results in evolution creating the files $USER.cmeta, $USER..ev-summary and $USER.ev-summary-meta. If you click on the trash or junk files, then new files .#evolution.sbd/Junk.cmeta and .#evolution.sbd/Trash.cmeta will be created. In other words, the new version of evolution does not appear to be 'retrieving local mail from standard mbox-formatted spools into folders managed by Evolution'. Rather it appears to be attempting to convert the spools into Evolution folders. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- evolution 'local delivery' mode fails to work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160047 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 160082] nautilus fails without warning to copy/move files if the containing directory is renamed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus 1. Create a folder 'test'. Initialise it by copying several files into it. (They should ideally be large files, eg 100 MB or more, or the operation occurs too quickly to observe the problem.) 2. Select the files in the folder and choose copy and then paste. 3. While the copy operation is in progress, renamed the containing folder 'test' to 'test1'. 4. The file currently being copied completes, and then the 'Copying...' window disappears. There is no indication that the other files failed to copy. This also occurs during a move operation, ie between different physical drives because otherwise the move operation is too fast for you to rename the containing folder. In this case, none of the original files are removed at step 4 even though some of them may be 'moved'. Although no data loss is involved, there should really be an indication to the user that the operation failed. At the moment it seems as though everything has completed successfully. I reproduced this in the latest Ubuntu 7.10, using nautilus version 1:2.20.0-0ubuntu7. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nautilus fails without warning to copy/move files if the containing directory is renamed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160082 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
