It is already in Hardy. For gutsy it is in -proposed at the moment,
where it is tested by a wider audience. I guess you don't have
proposed updates enabled? (System -> Administration -> Software

which type of media files are you trying to play? If its non-free media
formats, can you check whether you have the necessary non-free plugins

they still exists and weren't removed during the update? You can check

[Bug 196011] [NEW] Certain apps experiencing slowness under latest gnome in Hardy

2008-02-26 Thread Matthew Tighe
Public bug reported:

Lastest hardy on Feb 26, 2008. Certain applications have started
experiencing slowness on window operations today. For example, Firefox 3
open file dialog takes about 20 seconds to open up. Thunderbird 2.0 does
as well. However, swiftweasel shows now such slowness. Gnome appearance
applet takes about 20 seconds to launch (shows up in the running program
list immediately, but the window takes 20 seconds to pop up).

Nautilus flies open, too.

I ran strace on firefox and thunderbird and the slowness coincides with
a futex ETIMEDOUT event. This repeats every few milliseconds until the
window opens. The firefox trace is attached to this comment. The same
error happend in Thunderbird.

I am running 64-bit with an encrypted file system (128-bit AES). Haven't
seen any slowness until today, though.

[Bug 195995] Re: xscreensaver doesn't pass keys

2008-02-26 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xscreensaver

In order to vote on the Electric Sheep screensaver's sheep, you need to
be able to pass the up and down arrows to the screensaver. XScreensaver
  currently does not do this.
http://electricsheep.org/index.cgi?&menu=code has a link to a version of
  xscreensaver that does:
  http://electricsheep.org/xscreensaver-4.19-passkeys-r2.tar.gz Adding it
to the main xscreensaver might not be necessary if the devs want to keep
the hacked one separate, but having a dummy xscreensaver package that is
satisfied by either xscreensaver-standard or xscreensaver-passkeys (for
  example) could work.

Oh, I'm using Hardy Alpha 5. The version of xscreensaver that passes
keys has never been packaged for any version of Ubuntu, though.
+ Alternatively, since xscreensaver isn't part of Ubuntu by default and is
+ kind of ugly, what about patching gnome-screensaver to pass keys?

[Bug 195997] [NEW] [hardy] wrong icon for stock_mail-priority-high.png in non-Human icon themes

2008-02-26 Thread zombiepig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-icon-theme

In the early Hardy alpha versions, the icon for marking mail as high
priority was a very nice red exclamation mark in the tango style.
Somewhere along the way, this icon has changed to the emblem-
important.png file, in fact, stock_mail-priority-high.png now symlinks
to emblem-important.png

This only applies to themes based of the gnome icon theme, eg tangerine,
mist, etc. Not the human icon theme, which uses it's own orange circle
exclamation for stock_mail-priority-high.

The tango style red exclamation looked fantastic with the rest of the
tango-ised icons in evolution, the current exclamation-in-a-circle icon
doesn't look so hot. Unfortunately, I can't find any screenshots of the
better icon, but if it helps, I could redownload an early hardy alpha
and find the correct image.

I've attached a screenshot of how evolution currently looks with the
wrong icon.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 31979 ***

This isn't a direct duplicate of the aforementioned bug.

One solution I've found works is to remove the .xscreensaver file when
using the gnome screensaver. Under Gutsy, it just does the right thing
and directs the screensavers to use the Pictures folder.

[Bug 195875] Re: Duplicate tracks added to library after pluging in ipod

2008-02-26 Thread Alex Strabala
Confirmed with hardy alpha 5 and rhythmbox 0.11.4. When an ipod is
plugged in, rhythmbox opens and adds the ipod's tracks to my library.
They stay there until the ipod is ejected, after which the tracks go
into the "missing files" section. The same behavior is present with a
new user account on this computer. iPod has not been connected to
windows. This is the only computer (and OS) to which my ipod has been
connected for months.

Probably important to mention is the fact that this behavior only
started today after a sudo aptitude upgrade.

Re: [Bug 182474] Re: [Hardy Alpha 3] Broken launcher (normally Firefox) in default Gobuntu install

2008-02-26 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Mikko,

I think that you will find the reason for your error is that the
command for Firefox Beta 3 is "firefox-3.0" rather than Firefox.
While that is an error, it is a separate error and I would expect it
to be fixed.

When Firefox 3 Beta becomes "Firefox", I would expect the command for
it to be changed to "firefox" and the link should just work again.

[Bug 195961] [NEW] [Hardy] adjust time & date dialog vanishes completely after closing it in a certain way

2008-02-26 Thread Data
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

This happens to me on an up-to-date installation of hardy alpha 5.

After closing the "Adjust Date & Time"-window by clicking on the "x"-button
(the usual close-button that's on the top right corner of every window), it
cannot be opened again. I have to log out and in again, before I am able to get
the "Adjust Date & Time"-window again.
If closed by clicking "cancel" or "set system time" everything is fine.

Note: I am referring to the "Adjust Date & Time"-window you get when
right clicking on the Clock-applet and select "Adjust Date & Time". I am
NOT referring to the time-admin application you get when you select
System -> Administration -> Time and Date. That is a different one.

Steps to reproduce:
   1. Right-click on the Clock applet and select "Adjust Date & Time"
   2. Close it by clicking on the "x"-button in the top right corner. (Closing
it any other way does not trigger the bug)
   3. Repeat step no. 1 and see that nothing happens (a.k.a no window opens)

Current workaround: Log out and log back in

[Bug 195952] [NEW] gstreamer-properties default video out should be X Window System (No Xv)

2008-02-26 Thread Joseph Price
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

On the intel 945, (and probably a few other chipsets) when compiz is
enabled, video playback may be left behind when the window containing it
is dragged around. This is on Ubuntu Gutsy with the 'intel' driver.

For totem, an easy fix that I have found for this is to fire up gnome-
properties, navigate to the video tab and change the default video
output plugin to "X Window System (No Xv)"

For vlc, roughly the same idea. I know these two are affected but I am
unsure about the others. http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/VideoPlayback
lists fixes for the others.

[Bug 195939] [NEW] gnome sometimes forgets default mixer tracks device

2008-02-26 Thread chckens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In current Hardy (and also Gutsy), when I reboot Gnome often forgets
which mixer device I've chosen as default. This results in my volume
control hotkeys not working as expected (controlling the volume on the
wrong device) until I launch gnome-sound-properties again to choose the
right device.

I think this behaviour is related to which of my two sound cards is
initialised first by ALSA, as this seems to change quite randomly. Gnome
should still be able to control the correct mixer wherever it turns up
though, and it certainly manages to always play through the same card.

[Bug 195929] [NEW] Cosmetic bug: rectangular white outline surrounding rounded buttons

2008-02-26 Thread Conn
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: Hardy (fresh install from Alpha5 desktop cd, all updates as of
February 26th)
System: Dell Inspiron 510m laptop
Graphics subsystem: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM
Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

Rounded GTK+ buttons are rendered with a rectangular white outline, most
noticeable in the new Firefox 3.0 Beta 3 release when browsing Gmail
(not not limited to this site). I am attaching two small screenshots;
one of the "Archive" button while using the "Ubuntulooks" theme, and the
same button while using "Clearlooks". You may need to zoom the images as
I cropped them in order to avoid personal information being exposed.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Ensure Ubuntulooks theme is active
2. Open Firefox 3, navigate to http://mail.google.com and log in to your account
3. Observe the "Archive" and "Report spam" buttons against the blue background.
4. Change to any other theme installed by default in Ubuntu, and repeat steps
2-3.

Expected results: Buttons have no noticeable outline, or else a thin
white outline, rounded at the edges for rounded buttons.

Actual results:
1. For Ubuntulooks theme: Buttons have a white rectangular outline, creating
noticeable white marks at the edges of rounded buttons.
2. For all other themes installed by default: results are as expected (above)

Note: This is most likely not a Firefox 3 or core GTK+ bug, as all other
themes besides Ubuntulooks work as expected.

[Bug 195914] [NEW] Ekiga & gstreamer inputs default to outdated V4L, and require to be changed to V4L2

2008-02-26 Thread Mario Limonciello
Public bug reported:

Most modern webcam and capture devices are V4L2 based, but gstreamer and
Ekiga both default to using V4L instead. The V4L API isn't even
available in 2.6 kernels beyond 2.6.15, so it makes much more sense to
disable it by default.

Webcam capture applications that use gstreamer (such as ekiga) throw
errors otherwise.

All the files has been copied fine!
It has nothing to do with my files, They are all fine, among them are my
MP3 files, tons of MPG,AVI,M2V (my video files).

If you'll insist I will give you some, but the problem seem to do
nothing with the files.

The way I deal with it is to select all the files in the USB disk at
once and copy. of corse in 50% of my coping it crash at the end.

it simply disapper and later I am asked if I'd like to send a bug report
wich I did twice.

It happens when I copy small amount of files and up to full 4GB so I
think the number of files or thier size is not relevant to the problem.

hopes this helps

[Bug 195875] Re: Duplicate tracks added to library after pluging in ipod

2008-02-26 Thread David A Knight
With a new user (with an empty library an the library pointing at an
empty folder) an import appears to try to take place. I ended up with 2
tracks, both the same one in the library + the tracks as normal on the
ipod device.

This may not be a rythmbox problem directly. I just noticed I have
another device under computer with an ipod icon called ipodZx6sdg, as
well as the usual ipod drive so it could be a hal thing.

(Of course the tracks didn't reappear repluggin as mentioned above
because they were listed in missing files already)

2008-02-26 Thread Florent Mertens
Here is a screenshot showing yelp acting strangely.

As you can, yelp is using 90% of my CPU and 6% of my memory while it is *idle*.
In fact it consume less CPU if i actually use it.

My system : Intel centrino 1600MHz - 1024 Mo RAM

I don't know what else i can provide to help you. Tell me.

2008-02-26 Thread Felipe Venegas
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW]

[Bug 195875] Re: Duplicate tracks added to library after pluging in ipod

2008-02-26 Thread David A Knight
They do still apear under the ipod devices section, they were just added
to the library as well. ejecting the ipod they were removed from the
library. Replugging the ipod again an import starts to occur, getting
import errors on ArtworkDB and ITunesDB but the tracks do not appear.

The configuration of rhythmbox hasn't been changed since my ipod was
last plugged in. The ipod has been connected to a windows system, but
itunes was not run.

[Bug 69564] Re: Troubles while play streaming video

2008-02-26 Thread ThomasNovin
I have the same problem I think. I'm trying to watch Swedish news via
the service "SVT Play". An example URL is mms://qstream-
wm.qbrick.com/00928/rapport/080205rapport1930.wmv but I think all clips
on SVT Play is locked to only work from Swedish IPs.

$ gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=mms://qstream-wm.qbrick.com/00928/rapport/080205rapport1930.wmv
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...

Before I exited the window that popped up I waited for maybe 1 minute. I
can see the start frame of the clip and if I play it in totem I can see
some information about the clip:

Video:
Diemnsions: 384x288
Codec: Microsoft Windows Media 9
Framerate: 50 fps
Bitrate: N/A

Audio:
Codec: WMA Version 8
Channels: Stereo
Sample rate: 44100 Hz
Bitrate: N/A

Also I can see that the clip buffers OK and that the clip is 29:52 long.

[Bug 195887] [NEW] Automatic subtitle loading should also load e.g. aaa_cz.srt for aaa.avi

2008-02-26 Thread Roman Polach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Hardy alpha 4:
Totem(gstreamer) does not automatically load the subtitle file
with an video file, if the names are not exactly same.
I have for example aaa.avi video file and aaa_cz.srt subtitles file
in the same directory. When opening the file in GUI, the subtitles
are not displayed.
In mplayer this subtitle is successfully loaded automatically with
the video file when option 'sub-fuzziness=1' is set.
(It loads any subtitle file with name starting "aaa" when loading aaa.avi.)
It would be nice to have this feature in Totem too.
