It seemed to me, from my experience on the forums, that the upgrade to -17 caused a lot of problems for people, but unless somebody can confirm this bug, we will leave it as New. The reason we can't confirm it at this time is because it is possible that there was another cause for the problem, but the kernel upgrade happened to be in the mix and was simply the most visible candidate as the source of the problem. Hello Sebastian, I'm new to Linux, and new to bugging report. I changed my contacts.ldif file with a new one that only has two contacts with dummy information. Regarding the duplication of the bug, I didn't open the bug 372202 in bugzilla (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372202) . This was my first bug opened :P I opened the bug 534956 in bugzilla (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=534956) as you recommended and I understand that now it is closed because it is duplicated (372202). I'm a little confused. Which ticket is closed because of the duplication? 534956 in bugzilla or 230804 in here (launchpad), I see that bug 372202 in bugzilla has been open since November last year, and doesn't provide as much information as I provided. I'm not sure if my issue is with the settings daemon or not. I am running Hardy on my laptop and desktop. My desktop had feisty AMD64 so I did a clean install of Hardy i386 so I could use the programs that haven't made it to the 64-bit architecture. My laptop was just upgraded to Hardy since it was already running Feisty i386. My desktop hasn't had any problems but my laptop has had this issue since the upgrade. I switched just after the official release so I have been just dealing with it for over a month now. I have applied all updates that have shown up thinking that a fix was coming sooner or later. My laptop has never had XGL installed and compiz has always been disabled because my on- board graphics card doesn't work with compiz. Yet I still have this issue where my gnome session won't start unless I change the session to gnome failsafe (or terminal failsafe and type 'gnome-session'). When I try to log in normally I briefly see a flash of a terminal screen and catch something at the bottom about startup scripts and the screen goes black and stays there until I get frustrated and manually turn off the power. Luckily I have still been able to use it in gnome failsafe mode or I might have destroyed my laptop by now. So if this issue is fixed how do I do it? [Bug 225950] Re: [8.04] Drawing evolution window on screen very slow
Here's what I've observed from some crazy experiments. I've noticed that Evolution 2.22, regardless when using it on a normal Ubuntu install or on a LTSP thin client, it is more sluggish than the Evolution 2.12 found in Gusty, for the very same reasons stated above. It seems to take two seconds for Evolution to Formating Message where the previous version, the formating was instant. Scrolling from one email to the next is also very choppy, especially using the previous and next buttons in the tool bar. This is experienced on a variety of machines, all at different speeds and specs (and apparently many other users). To try and pin-point what the problem is, I tried a few combinations of installs and found mixed results. All of these tests were with thin clients. First I had a basic Ubuntu 8.04 and LTSP installed and the 8.04 Evolution packages installed by default which had poor performance. I then installed Gusty's Evolution packages 2.12 instead of Evolution 2.22 on the very same server and the performance was excellent. I then tried Debian Lenny's Evolution packages 2.22 on this server and found the problem still exists. I then tried a complete install of Debian Lenny's LTSP server and Evolution 2.22 and found the performance to be excellent (overall much quicker than Ubuntu's I might add). In summary: 8.04 LTSP + 8.04 Evo 2.22 = slow performance 8.04 LTSP + 7.10 Evo 2.12 = excellent performance 8.04 LTSP + Debian Evo 2.22 = slow performance Debian Lenny LTSP + Debian Evo 2.22 = excellent performance Based on these results, there is something about the Evolution 2.22 Ubuntu package that makes it a great deal sluggish than 2.12 in Gusty (the problem does NOT exist in Debian). When installing the 2.12 packages, I found no problem whatsoever so the problem seems to be with Evolution 2.22 and that the LTSP thin client model magnifies the problem a great deal. I hope this helps somewhat on where to look. -- [8.04] Drawing evolution window on screen very slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
