Closing ALL nautilus windows doesn't free it back, since nautilus remains running to draw the desktop, so all that ram is wasted. It seems to me like you don't really understand what I am talking about. Maybe I wasn't clear enough about it. The following two screen shots should finally make the situation clear: #1: Clearlooks-Stock-Black-on-Light.png -- This is the state right after choosing "Clearlooks" from the themes list. (window in the top right corner of the screen shot) Of course, with stock colors everything works fine, since otherwise this would not be the default theme. You can see a border around the file name being renamed, and you can see the non- highlighted file extension. (window on the left) This is the way it should be. #2: Clearlooks-White-on-Dark.png -- Here, the important part is choosing white as text color. To make sense of a white text color, you need to have the other UI elements be dark. So, I changed the top left color from the theme color customizer (window in the bottom right corner of the screen shot) from light to dark, and the top right one from dark to light. As you can also see in the screen shot, all other folder names (inside /tmp) in nautilus are printed in black. So the right side color in the second row (row of input fields) of the theme color customizer is used. The left side color in the second row is used for the background of the folder view. When renaming a file, though, the right side color from the *first* row (row of window element colors, buttons etc.) is used, even though the one from the *second* row should be used. This leads to white text on white background. (Plus a white border around the renaming input field, instead a black one.) I doubt that too many people are using dark themes atm, and if they are, they are not using Clearlooks, since there's a lot of custom dark themes on gnome-look.org. Crazy: First i asked a friend and he was able reproduce this bug under Gnome/Debian. As far as I know, Evolution does use the Gnome proxy settings for images inside emails, but does not for proxies, and when I tried using the syntax http://proxy.server:port/my.exchange.site/exchange it did not work either. I know that the proxy is working because if I set it in the Gnome proxy settings and then use Places/Connect to Server and use the WebDEV protocl I can connect just fine and browse through my email directories. At first I thought of this as a new feature, but really it is a bug because Evolution, as any GNOME application, should be following GNOME settings for everything, not just selectively choosing what HTTP requests it uses the proxy for. Hi Pedro, Since this happened I moved out of VMWare into VBox, and I have not been able to reproduce it anymore, so I took the liberty of closing INVALID. For the record, here's how I used to get it: I always open VMWare Server (1.0.5) -- and now VBox -- on a different workspace. So usually I am into the VMachine, working, and switching back and forth out of VMWare and into another workspace. I was set to use Ctrl-Alt for releasing the keyboard and mouse from VMware, and the usual Ctrl-Alt-# to switch workspaces. Every so often I guess I would be extremely fast, either on the correct typing of the keyboard sequences, or the incorrect ones. Somehow g-kb-p would get lost -- end result is I would lose the keybindings for workspace switch. When I tried to recover them (by running g-kb-p), I would get the SIGSEGV. Yes and no. Adding the line to .bashrc made no difference. The Gnome 'Places > Computer' link still doesn't work, nor does automounting, and all the fixed drives are still listed under 'Removable Drives'. However, PCmanFM does work much better than Naughty Loss. Thanks, Artships, for that suggestion. If I switch on the side pane, it displays all my drives by their correct labels (Nautilus had lost these, displaying just 'sda1' etc.) PCmanFM also displays my flash drive, although it won't mount it.
