[Bug 306939] Re: use a combobox instead of tabs

2008-12-11 Thread David Prieto
Not easily. First you have to make the whole window wider, and only then
can you resize the left pane. What's more, if video is being displayed
ekiga does NOT let you resize the window or any of its elements (e.g.
the left pane).

[Bug 264108] Re: Volume control sliders separate when dragged

2008-12-11 Thread Victor Zamanian
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 126333 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/126333

Jixop: Yeah. The bugs that this has been marked duplicate of seems to
have in common only the word erratic which, I guess, kind of has a
little to do with this. But I am experiencing none of the behavior
described in the other bugs; except of course the passing-by-mentioning
of my behavior in #158590, which naturally leads me to believe the bugs
are separate, but that the other reporters are experiencing multiple
bugs and I just the channel separation one.

I'm neither experiencing anything you described except for separation of
the channel lock, upon which the locking icon turns into the 'unlinked'
icon and remains as such. Mine never rejoin. Not to say it couldn't be
related, just saying it might also be a separate issue.

The fact that it happens less with Capture Mux might be because you're
not using the Capture Mux when you try it (if I even understand what
Capture Mux is), but you are using PCM/Master/etc when you try it. As I
recall, the sliders are more inclined to separate when the sound module
they control is being used at the moment.

Thanks,
Victor

[Bug 137527] Re: Totem should notify users about installing libdvdread3 and libdvdcss2 to read encrypted DVD

2008-12-11 Thread Milan
At least there's an easy part to fix here: you shouldn't have to run
/usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh. Instead, it should be run
automatically by the post-install script of libdvdcss2. This does not
bring any new legal issue, and makes things way simpler.

[Bug 223400] Re: When right-clicking on a Raw image, I cannot open it in the Gimp

Thanks for the intended workflow clarification.
It seems that when launching ufraw from f-spot via the right-click =edit in
gimp (as enabled above) no new version of the pic is created in the f-spot

The problem then is that actually nothing happens when choosing Develop in

2008-12-11 Thread Chris Coulson
Whoops! I just noticed that you're asking for Ekiga to be updated to
3.00. For some reason, I thought I read that you were trying to upgrade
Ekiga to 3.00.

Anyway, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for the
criteria for updating packages in a stable release. Generally, updates
are only provided for severe or high-priority bugs, and severe
regressions. Updating Ekiga to 3.00 would not be eligible for a stable
release update.

However, it might be possible to backport it to Intrepid, so I'll add an
intrepid-backports task for that.

[Bug 281781] [NEW] Systm - Administration - Login Window command is wrong

2008-12-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Currently, the command for gdmsetup is this in the menu:

gksu /usr/sbin/gdmsetup

This is wrong. It should be:

gksu -D /usr/share/applications/gdmsetup.desktop /usr/sbin/gdmsetup

What does this change? Well if you don't know, when the GKSU pops up, it
will say Login Window between its quotes, not /usr/sbin/gdmsetup. This
will be a little more cleaner and less confusing. The other GKSU

[Bug 307149] [NEW] gnome-open and gksudo -k gnome-open should open the same application

2008-12-11 Thread Hendrik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgnome2-0

This is on Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10), using version 2.24.1-0ubuntu4 of
libgnome2-0.

gnome-open opens a file with the application specified for the
corresponding MIME type. This application can be changed by the user in
Nautilus (right click, Properties, Open with). Such a change takes
effect only for the respective user - thus, it won't affect e.g. root.

This becomes problematic when a file should be opened with root
privileges, via gksudo gnome-open. In this case, the default
application (not necessarily the one specified by the invoking user) is
started. While this behaviour is appropriate in general, there should be
a way to explicitly, but automatically, open the user's preferred
application.

An easy way to achieve this would be to call gksudo -k gnome-open and have
gnome-open look at the value of $HOME to decide whether to start the
user-defined application or the global default for the MIME type in question.
(The -k flag tells gksudo to preserve the environment of the invoking user.
In my opinion, this should include the applications specified for handling MIME
types.)

[Bug 264108] Re: Volume control sliders separate when dragged

2008-12-11 Thread Jixop
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 126333 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/126333

When using the volume up/down media buttons, I don't hear any difference but in
the Volume control pannel it's visible that the channels get unlocked from each
other (button changes to unlocked)
The appearance is, as said before, very random. Things like rejoining channels,
muted or less volume in 1 channel, are not common at all. They just appeared
once or twice when I was playing with the sliders to try to find some reason
for problem.
Also when using the media buttons, the volume _sometimes_ doesn't change
gradually or even sometimes in the wrong direction.
The only thing which I found is very regular is the login music being weirdly
fluctuating. This is at every login.

[Bug 307158] [NEW] 'About' info limited

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Wishlist, not bug.

The Help menu - About (at the bottom) gives a lot of useful numbers but
doesn't actually say what the program does or what it is for. I look in
the package manager to find their brief description sometimes if i
really am stuck in finding out about the package. I know i should be
able to guess/know just by looking at what the program looks like but it
isn't always obvious, especially to a total noob or a new ex-Windows

Step to reproduce:

[Bug 307149] Re: gnome-open and gksudo -k gnome-open should open the same application

2008-12-11 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for your report, but this isn't a bug in libgnome. libglib /
libgio does all the work for this, and it behaves as expected (it uses
the current users preferences, which if you have launched it via sudo or
gksu, will be the root user).

I think you've misunderstood what the environment is when referring to
gksu -k preserving the users environment. Your users environment does
not include user settings (such as what applications handle which
mimetypes), but the environment variables that are currently set. To
view your users environment, just type env.

I'm closing this bug, as what you've described is not a bug, and the
application is behaving as expected.

Please feel free to report any other issues you find.

[Bug 307172] [NEW] Windows thumbs.db files causes error of import

2008-12-11 Thread mavosaure
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Hello,

1) Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2) rhythmbox:
  Installé : 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.2
  Candidat : 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.2
 Table de version :

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4 0
500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages

3) Synchronization of the music directory

4) I use dual boot, with Intrepid and Windows XP. So I shared a music directory
on a partition between Ubuntu and XP. For each sub-directory, Windows creates
an hidden (for XP) file Thumbs.db (a kind of thumbnail, I suppose).
At each synchronization of the music directory, Rhythmbox notices me a warning
for each thumbs.db because it can't recognize their MIME type:

Le type MIME du fichier n'a pu être reconnu in french... Something like :
MIME type hasn't be recognized in English.

The same warnings are given for text files (*.txt in Windows) and Itunes
files (*.itl *.itdb in Windows).

It causes no problem for using Rhythmbox, but I think a lot of newbies could
find it frightening to got so many warnings. These errors couldn't be ignored?
Finally, real import errors are flooded under many useless warnings.

I don't care if my media player is'nt able to import text files or any
thumbnail system files, but I prefer to know if it failes to get audio
files... ;-)

Thanks

Re: [Bug 307149] Re: gnome-open and gksudo -k gnome-open should open the same application

2008-12-11 Thread Hendrik
Dear Chris,

thanks for your answer.

While your arguments for why the issue should not be considered a bug
are convincing, I still believe that there should be a feature that
solves the problem I described (i.e. open a file with root privileges,
but with the user-defined application).

I knew that gksu -k only refers to the environment variables. However,
if $HOME is set to the user's home, doesn't it make sense to use the
MIME applications specified there (in
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list)?
For me, the question seems to be whether it's better to find the right
application by looking at (e.g.) $USER or at $HOME - but since I don't
know the internals of gnome-open, I might be completely off there.

If this is not a bug, do you think it would make sense to submit a
feature request for an open with the user-local application option in
gnome-open?

Regards

Hendrik

[Bug 265033] Re: Forms data invisible (evince 2.23.6-0ubuntu1) Intrepid

2008-12-11 Thread Adam Buchbinder
I can replicate this problem with this year's IRS Form 1040. It doesn't
affect other forms on that site randomly selected, like Form 8038-T or
Form 1040-EZ.

I see Error: Unknown font in field's DA string on console output, but
I don't know how related that is.

I'm running evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 with libpoppler3 0.8.7-1.

After a restart, it works again - but I was having this problem several times

I will try to reproduce the error and give any informations that may be

[Bug 307215] [NEW] Malformed anchor links when exporting linked notes to HTML

2008-12-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: tomboy

This bug is actually result of a really useful feature of Tomboy: that
links are not capitalization-dependent. If you have a note named Cool
Tomboy Note and in a second note you type in cool tomboy note, the
phrase will become a link to the first note.

However when you export a note with all linked notes to HTML (using the Export
to HTML addin), the note-to-note links generated in the HTML page don't link
correctly when the capitalization of the link is not the same as the
capitalization as the anchor.
Example: a href=#cool tomboy notecool tomboy note/a
a name=Cool Tomboy NoteCool Tomboy Note/a

As a fix, I'd suggest that all links generated in the output HTML file
are made uniformly lower-case. That will resolve any capitalization
differences.

[Bug 265033] Re: Form contents are invisible when cursor leaves field, but data is still saved in form.

2008-12-11 Thread Adam Buchbinder
Adding: the console error appears to be related; I see it when I leave a
field. It repeats a larger number of times each time I see it. I'm
attaching a copy of IRS form 1040, filled in with evince. You can see
the data in the fields (Your first name and initial, for instance) if
you select the fields, but otherwise, the data is invisible.

Filling the form in with acroread 8.1.3 works properly. The data is
indeed being saved; if I edit a field in acroread, it becomes visible,
both in acroread and in evince.

2008-12-11 Thread Luke Yelavich
Gnome-sound-recorder uses gstreamer for everyting, according to what it
depends on at least. If you can, I'd try and use another gstreamer based
application, such as a CD ripper for example, and see what happens when
you create og files when ripping CDs, or using jokosher to record,
anything that uses gstreamer and ogg.

Audacity is not affected since it uses libogg directly.

[Bug 293883] Re: 8.10 Printed PDF missing parts / corrupt

2008-12-11 Thread Saïvann Carignan
This bug has been fixed in libcairo trunk by this commit :

3c18d95b293eddaa25232bc06398c78bc8043cb4
Compute device_transform_inverse.

However, patching 1.8.0 libcairo with the patch from this commit is not
enough, that probably means that this is only a part of the fix and that
another commit holds the missing part of the puzzle. I wonder how to
find the fix at this point. I attached current incomplete patch if
someone can take a look.

[Bug 307236] Re: Strange numbers showing up in the middle of the calculator

2008-12-11 Thread use_linux
I just noticed, when I hit ctrl + D at the bottom it says Bit editor
activated. Click on bit values to toggle them and if I haven't added
anything you can click and toggle them. I'm not sure what this purpose
is but apparently it IS a feature...I think it just needs to be more
clear on how to turn it on/off and what it's actually used for.
