[Bug 117578] Re: Filename not changed to the "standard" when adding a song to iPod

2009-04-19 Thread Robert Ancell
Downgrading importance as the filename sanitising has already been
released. Does anyone think this should be kept open for the "standard"
naming issue? This has been captured in the upstream bug report and is
a design decision that should not affect Ubuntu users. (close or
downgrade further to wishlist?)

[Bug 363986] [NEW] evolution IMAP folder summary count wrong

2009-04-19 Thread Kip Warner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution IMAP folders display the wrong number of items in them
sometimes, even when forcing a manual refresh. When I actually click on
the folder that I know has nothing in it, the folder item count still
won't update. Look at the screenshot. You'll see the Unlearn folder says
it has one item in it, but it's actually empty even after purging trash.

[Bug 363879] Re: toggling hidden files closes unfoldered directories

2009-04-19 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Yes, it's reproducible: It's present in my guest session too.

Steps:

- open nautilus
- ctl-2 to put in in list view
- unfold a folder that has files inside, using the triangle at the left of the
file name: you will see the files in that folder (let's suppose it's the folder
Desktop)
- ctl-h to show hidden files => folder Desktop is shrinked, (folded) BUG the
user expects that Desktop remains unfolded

[Bug 363967] [NEW] [jaunty] Desktop effects could not be enabled

Public bug reported:

The desktop effects worked properly when running from live CD, however
after installing it gives the message "Desktop effects could not be

Any more information it would give would be very helpful, since now the
message only tells me 'it didn't work'.

If drivers need to be installed, it should be done automatically (after
verification).

I'm going to try David's suggestion to reinstall all things relating to
gstreamer. While this may lose us the chance of verifying a fix, it will
at least confirm that this was a gstreamer problem and give us a
reasonable workaround for anyone else unfortunate enough to still be
afflicted with it.

entries in the system log

dpkg -l lists that libgtop2-7 is of version 2.24.0-ubuntu2, which is the

[Bug 292324] Re: "There is no application installed for this file type" error

2009-04-19 Thread Steven Susbauer
Good day,

The file will open if you remove the file extension and have it marked
executable. This behavior is probably by design. If someone accidentally
marks a file such as a .png as executable they still expect it to open
in an image viewer, not try to run and give an error. The file manager
does not differentiate.

If you feel this is in error, please feel free to reopen the bug.
Thanks!

[Bug 292324] [NEW] "There is no application installed for this file type" error

2009-04-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Download http://icculus.org/prey/downloads/prey-demo-
installer-10232008.bin, right-click go to properties, permissions, make
it executable, and double-click to start. You then get a "There is no
application installed for this file type" error.

Running the program via the terminal makes it work fine.

Re: [Bug 363438] Re: does not draw desktop by default

2009-04-19 Thread Bob Plantz
I have traced this down to the fact that nautilus is not launched when I
log on to gnome. I used ps -A | grep naut to show this.

* Running nautilus manually through a terminal window shows my Desktop
icons.

* Adding nautilus to System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications
causes nautilus to launch and display my Desktop icons.

* I created another user, and nautilus launches when that user logs on,
thus showing her Desktop icons.

* I also updated to 9.04RC on another computer (my laptop). Logging on
launches nautilus, and the Desktop icons show.

So there must be a configuration file that got borked when I upgraded my
desktop computer (not to be confused with the Desktop directory) to
9.04RC.

[Bug 348498] Re: gedit hangs on activating character map plugin

2009-04-19 Thread Igor Gomes

I think you're blaming the wrong component... I'm having the same issue with
embedded terminal.

Try to reproduce it:

1) Start gedit, disable all plugins and close
2) Start system monitor
3) Start gedit and check CPU/mem stat (0% 10.2MB)
4) Enable the terminal plugin

It suddenly jumps to 15% CPU!

[Bug 363954] [NEW] the 'X is now safe to remove' notification window is too small

2009-04-19 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Occasionally when I unmount an external drive, I get a message telling

[Bug 363227] Re: throbber not visible, epiphany-browser

2009-04-19 Thread Nobu
Apparently, it's related to the theme engine I was using.

The "separator" (don't know if I can call it that, now) is not visible
when using Taqua, New Wave, Murrina, Mist, Loma, Inverted, Human,
Glossy, Dust, DarkRoom, or Clearlooks, nor their derivatives. It's
visible in most all of the others.

That said, can this be resolved by a change in code of the application,
or is it invalid?

[Bug 363945] [NEW] save dialog is modal without cause

2009-04-19 Thread Stefan Wagner
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu
  xUbuntu 8.04.2.
2) The version of the package you are using
 gedit:
  Installiert:2.22.3-0ubuntu2
  Mögliche Pakete:2.22.3-0ubuntu2
  Versions-Tabelle:
3) What you expected to happen
I like to open the save-dialog, and to pick the name from the file to save.
4) What happened instead
For instance a class DateFormSpecial has to be named DateFormSpecial.java, but
once the modal dialog is open, I can't pick the name with the mouse. Yes, I
know, I could have picked it before. But why shouldn't I switch back to the
edit-mode, perhaps I see a typo in the moment I like to save? I missed to pick
it before, so I have to hit "escape", pick the name, open "save as" again.

Even worse: If it is a fresh file, the name is "Ungespeichertes Dokument 1"
(unsaved document 1 in english, I guess). WTF? Who ever likes to save his file,
which is probably not a document as "unsaved document X"? If you do that, it
isn't unsaved, so for all possible names, this one for sure is the most useless
filename you might think of. Why isn't the field just empty?
It's not helpful for a beginner and annoying for everyone! If you don't take
enough care to hit space immediately, but position the mouse in the field, the
marking is gone, and you can't mark the whole name with a doubleclick. So you
need at least half an hour to get rid of that silly dummyname. And got a stupid
blank instead. Like to put a word of the text as name of the document there.
Maybe a classname like DateFormSpecial, and need to close the dialog with the
nice empty Textfield, mark the name DateFormSpecial, open the save-dialog
again.

Well - the used behaviour is, that if you click the mousewheel alias
button 3 of your mouse (you own a mouse, do you?) the last marked text
is pasted, if possible, to the place of the cursor. Well - it doesn't
work, cause the stupid dummyname is marked for overwriting, so you paste
that name over itself, which isn't that much useful. It's like a zombie
who reappears everytime you think you killed it.

I'm using linux for 11 years, and on some parts it's getting less useful
than it was. Some handrails emerge as railings of a jail.

[Bug 363943] [NEW] evolution-data-server quits when loading task list

Public bug reported:

evolution-data-server quits sometimes after loading my task list.
Usually it works the first time but crashes after several loads.

usual message, "The Evolution tasks have quit unexpectedly."

before quitting:

[Bug 363911] [NEW] gnome-sound-properties previews sounds it can't play

2009-04-19 Thread Jim Rorie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This is under Jaunty Beta, AMD64 on a macbook pro 5,1.

It is possible to select a sound under gnome sound properties that the
system cannot play. To demonstrate, create a sound file in your home
directory. Select that file under an event, such as empty trash. The
preview should work and play the file as normal. However, when the
event fires, it will not play.

This can be resolved by creating a link to the file in the
/usr/share/sounds directory and selecting that file instead. My
suspicion is that it is a permissions issue, but I can't for the life of
me figure our how it can play a root file but not a user file.

The result of this is that the user will select a custom file and the
default file will play instead, thus generating a bug report.

Binary package hint: nautilus

After doing a resume from suspend to ram, an active sftp connection
cannot be reopned with nautlius. Nautilus just hangs and after a while
displays the error message attached to this bug report. When i first
unmount the sftp location and then reconnect to the server everything
works fine.

Either all active sftp/ssh connections should be disconnected by the OS
before suspending, or when resuming it should reestablish the sftp/ssh
connections.

Note: The bug can only be recreated after suspending for a longer period
of time. I suspect that after some time a timeout is thrown and the
connections is rendered into an invalid state.

That doesn't mean it is correct though. A confirmation dialog for moving
to trash would be intrusive. The trash is there to cover you in the
event you accidentally delete a file. If people want a dialog, then we
should just get rid of the trash entirely, as it would be completely
redundant.

However on a fresh install, the first thing I tried was to open up terminal and
press the up arrow on my keypad to cycle through to the previous command. I
know there is no previous command but this was the only way i know that can
mimic this freezing! This only happens if there are no more previous commands.
The computer just freezes and i have to reset the computer.. This only happend

[Bug 362090] Re: cursor doesn't behave properly when hovering over toolbar

2009-04-19 Thread erusan
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

  1) Jaunty Beta (up-to-date April 15)
  2) epiphany-browser 2.26.1-0ubuntu1
  3) Mouse over toolbar buttons, see pointer
  4) Cursor reacts by disappearing, appearing as a text selector, appearing as
a hand (as if resizing a window), etc

- Though the cursor behaves properly (highlights and activates buttons),
- it does not appear as it should. I have been unable to determine what
- triggers this behavior, and how the false behavior is determined
- (whether the cursos disappears, appears as a text selector, etc). This
- does not affect other applications, and other Epiphany windows (newly-
- opened--I usually have just one open so I'm not sure if it affects all
- open windows when triggered) are not affected. Effect occurs when
- hovering over toolbar (tabs, back, forward, etc) and menubar (File,
- Tools), but not when hovering over location bar.
+ Appears to occur when imbedded Flash is present. Though the cursor
+ behaves properly (highlights and activates buttons), it does not appear
+ as it should. It either disappears, appears as a text selector, a
+ resizing "hand" cursor, etc. This does not affect other applications,

[Bug 363463] Re: Panel does not retain initial reordering of applets

2009-04-19 Thread erusan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 36189 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36189

This does not seem to be the same bug.

This is intial reordering retention, not location retention.
This is not caused by screen resolution. It is caused by simply restarting
gnome-panel.
The expected behavior, actual behavior, and description of the problem do not
match the "original" bug this has been duped against.

Please review this bug's description again. If the behavior is known
with certainty to be caused by the same bug causing the screen
resolution bug, then perhaps the other bug's summary and description
should be updated to be inclusive of this behavior.

I can confirm on Jaunty. The alt key does not work. Current workaround:
1. Right click on panel you want to move.
2. Select Properties.
3.Un-click the expand box.
4. Move panel to where you want it.
5. click the expand box
That should do it for now.

[Bug 245956] Re: Error while creating child process in terminal

2009-04-19 Thread bcummings
I'll add a couple of comments to this bug.
I just upgraded my machine from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04. When I attempt to open a
terminal session from the Applications - Accessories menu, I receive the error
message "There was an error creating the chile process for this terminal" I
click on the OK button and the terminal window is open. There is a flashing
cursor in the window but I can not type any commands. While typing the cursor
stops blinking, but no characters appear. The normal command prompt does not
show up. The same thing occurs when I try and open gnome-terminal by pressing
"ALT-F2" to get the run program dialog box. I type gnome-terminal in the
command window and click on the run button.

I added a launch button the panel and checked the properties. The
command line is simply "gnome-terminal"

I am running the gnome desktop. It is consistent every time I attempt
to open a terminal.

Let me know if you need more information. Beyond this, I'm not sure how
I would tell you to recreate the problem.

Cheers!

The first two streaming are not asked by Ekiga I think because it is not
intended to work at such resolutions.
For the third, I don't know. This one is quite styrange as it looks always in

[Bug 363861] [NEW] login screen uses tiny fonts

2009-04-19 Thread Justin Husted
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

This is probably the same as one of the other gdm font bugs, but they
didn't look quite the same.

This is with the Jaunty RC, clean install.

The fonts in the login screen are mostly microscopic -- too small to
read. This applies to the actual text of the username you type in, as
well the text in the options menu.

However, the prompt asking you to type in the username / password is the
right size, as is the "Options" text itself and the date at the bottom.

I'm using a 1360x768 widescreen monitor (actually, a television).

This happens with the normal ATI driver as well as the fglrx driver - no
difference.

Expected behavior:

The username/password and the menu text should all be in the same font
size as the prompt and date. This looks very bad after a new install.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx
Package: gdm 2.20.10-0ubuntu2

 SHELL=/bin/bash

[Bug 363862] [NEW] gnome-system-monitor does not display HDD activity for md0

2009-04-19 Thread Brian Richardson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

It seems that Jaunty's gnome-system-monitor (2.26.0.1-0ubuntu1) does not
graphically display HDD activity on RAID devices (specifically md0),
though it did in Intrepid. It still works correctly for IDE and USB mass
storage devices. I see almost no activity in this graph, but it should
be quite active.

[Bug 363857] [NEW] Display dims on AC power

2009-04-19 Thread domagoj412
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Hello,
Few days ago, I've upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 beta and experiencing some problems
with batery/AC power settings.
I think that Ubuntu recognize my laptop as running on battery when it is
actually on AC...

In Power Management settings, option: "Dim display when idle" is checked for
battery and unchecked for AC power. But my display dims nevertheless.
I have unchecked that option for battery power as well - and it is fine now,
but it looks like Ubuntu "thinks" I'm on battery power...

[Bug 363450] Re: Watching a x264.mp4-file while using OO. OO behaved odd and got this crash report but it still works and operates.

2009-04-19 Thread agatonsax
I tried a little more. Doesn't seem to affect other programs. Tried
Firefox, Thunderbird, Kate, K-mail and Nero.

None of the above program activated any menu-item by just pressing ALT,
you have to use a combination like ALT+A (in swedish version alt+a is
file-menu). OpenOffice is, so far, the only I've found that activate a
menu-item with ALT only.

and I'd installed many packages related with pdf long time ago which I
don't even remember now. It may be smth. to with that. But thanks for
