Re: [Bug 363438] Re: does not draw desktop by default
I have traced this down to the fact that nautilus is not launched when I log on to gnome. I used ps -A | grep naut to show this. * Running nautilus manually through a terminal window shows my Desktop icons. * Adding nautilus to System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications causes nautilus to launch and display my Desktop icons. * I created another user, and nautilus launches when that user logs on, thus showing her Desktop icons. * I also updated to 9.04RC on another computer (my laptop). Logging on launches nautilus, and the Desktop icons show. So there must be a configuration file that got borked when I upgraded my desktop computer (not to be confused with the Desktop directory) to 9.04RC. [Bug 363945] [NEW] save dialog is modal without cause
Public bug reported: 1) The release of Ubuntu xUbuntu 8.04.2. 2) The version of the package you are using gedit: Installiert:2.22.3-0ubuntu2 Mögliche Pakete:2.22.3-0ubuntu2 Versions-Tabelle: 3) What you expected to happen I like to open the save-dialog, and to pick the name from the file to save. 4) What happened instead For instance a class DateFormSpecial has to be named DateFormSpecial.java, but once the modal dialog is open, I can't pick the name with the mouse. Yes, I know, I could have picked it before. But why shouldn't I switch back to the edit-mode, perhaps I see a typo in the moment I like to save? I missed to pick it before, so I have to hit "escape", pick the name, open "save as" again. Even worse: If it is a fresh file, the name is "Ungespeichertes Dokument 1" (unsaved document 1 in english, I guess). WTF? Who ever likes to save his file, which is probably not a document as "unsaved document X"? If you do that, it isn't unsaved, so for all possible names, this one for sure is the most useless filename you might think of. Why isn't the field just empty? It's not helpful for a beginner and annoying for everyone! If you don't take enough care to hit space immediately, but position the mouse in the field, the marking is gone, and you can't mark the whole name with a doubleclick. So you need at least half an hour to get rid of that silly dummyname. And got a stupid blank instead. Like to put a word of the text as name of the document there. Maybe a classname like DateFormSpecial, and need to close the dialog with the nice empty Textfield, mark the name DateFormSpecial, open the save-dialog again. Well - the used behaviour is, that if you click the mousewheel alias button 3 of your mouse (you own a mouse, do you?) the last marked text is pasted, if possible, to the place of the cursor. Well - it doesn't work, cause the stupid dummyname is marked for overwriting, so you paste that name over itself, which isn't that much useful. It's like a zombie who reappears everytime you think you killed it. I'm using linux for 11 years, and on some parts it's getting less useful than it was. [Bug 363911] [NEW] gnome-sound-properties previews sounds it can't play
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center This is under Jaunty Beta, AMD64 on a macbook pro 5,1. It is possible to select a sound under gnome sound properties that the system cannot play. To demonstrate, create a sound file in your home directory. Select that file under an event, such as empty trash. The preview should work and play the file as normal. However, when the event fires, it will not play. This can be resolved by creating a link to the file in the /usr/share/sounds directory and selecting that file instead. My suspicion is that it is a permissions issue, but I can't for the life of me figure our how it can play a root file but not a user file. The result of this is that the user will select a custom file and the default file will play instead, thus generating a bug report. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-sound-properties previews sounds it can't play https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I can confirm on Jaunty. The alt key does not work. Current workaround: 1. Right click on panel you want to move. 2. Select Properties. 3.Un-click the expand box. 4. [Bug 245956] Re: Error while creating child process in terminal
I'll add a couple of comments to this bug. I just upgraded my machine from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04. When I attempt to open a terminal session from the Applications - Accessories menu, I receive the error message "There was an error creating the chile process for this terminal" I click on the OK button and the terminal window is open. There is a flashing cursor in the window but I can not type any commands. While typing the cursor stops blinking, but no characters appear. The normal command prompt does not show up. The same thing occurs when I try and open gnome-terminal by pressing "ALT-F2" to get the run program dialog box. I type gnome-terminal in the command window and click on the run button. I added a launch button the panel and checked the properties. The command line is simply "gnome-terminal" I am running the gnome desktop. It is consistent every time I attempt to open a terminal. Let me know if you need more information. Beyond this, I'm not sure how I would tell you to recreate the problem. [Bug 363861] [NEW] login screen uses tiny fonts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm This is probably the same as one of the other gdm font bugs, but they didn't look quite the same. This is with the Jaunty RC, clean install. The fonts in the login screen are mostly microscopic -- too small to read. This applies to the actual text of the username you type in, as well the text in the options menu. However, the prompt asking you to type in the username / password is the right size, as is the "Options" text itself and the date at the bottom. I'm using a 1360x768 widescreen monitor (actually, a television). This happens with the normal ATI driver as well as the fglrx driver - no difference. Expected behavior: The username/password and the menu text should all be in the same font size as the prompt and date. This looks very bad after a new install. I tried a little more. Doesn't seem to affect other programs. Tried Firefox, Thunderbird, Kate, K-mail and Nero. None of the above program activated any menu-item by just pressing ALT, you have to use a combination like ALT+A (in swedish version alt+a is file-menu).
