[Bug 527157] Re: Brightness controls skips Levels.
I tested this in Arch, and it affects Arch's current version as well. Every version of GPM I've seen seems to have this issue. Kubuntu's power manager does not have this problem. I looked into the code for GPM, and noticed that xrandr is used to adjust the brightness. The HAL code has an option to check an fdi for brightness_in_hardware, but the xrandr code does not have any similar option. My C kung-fu is not sufficient to fix this problem on my own at this time, but I will continue to work at it. \ I don't think we want to disable xrandr entirely for this model, since this would likely break stuff like "dim after a few minutes" or dim on battery. Instead, I think there should be an option to disable brightness up and down events being controlled by xrander, based on gconf or a setting in GPM. -- Brightness controls skips Levels. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527157 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 537097] [NEW] Application Indicator menu can get really wide because of long artist name or song title
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox The Application Indicator menu's width is defined by its menu items. [Bug 537052] [NEW] Theme previews in Appearence now incorrect due to moved window control icons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Because Ubuntu 10.04 alpha now has decided to move the Window control icons (Maximise, Minimise,Close) to the LHS of all windows, all the previews of available Themes are now misleading as they show these icons in their "traditional" positions on the RHS. This will be confusing to users as they will expect a theme to actually look like the preview - otherwise why bother having the preview at all? I personally thought that the LHS icons were just part of a new theme and was most disappointed when I could not revert back to "normal" just by selecting a different theme. When I found out that I had to use the gconf editor to hack the relevant Metacity definition to fix things (a most user-unfriendly "feature") I was more disappointed. This is with a totally stock ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs (attached anyway). [Bug 496859] Re: *dm upstart job should depend on acpid because X tries to connect to acpid socket very soon after starting.
Heh, I went to package that patch and discovered that I had looked at this patch once before in troubleshooting #439138, but the error message had been just a red herring. Notice especially starting with comment #32 on that bug report a proposal was made to add an acpid dependency but in further investigation this was identified as unnecessary. That said, I don't have solid opinions one way or another as to whether to keep acpid support enabled in X or not. I no of no issues which would be caused or solved by this change. From what I understand of the code, X may issue this error message but it has timing code to try again later, so if acpid is just late coming up that's totally okay. And if acpid never comes up for whatever reason, it won't break X. Guidance from Steve Langasek is "unless there's evidence that the change actually fixes something, I think it should be postponed to M". This seems a sensible plan. Meanwhile, I've packaged the patch and stuck it in a PPA to make it easy for anyone who would like to do some testing with this: https://edge.launchpad.net/~bryceharrington/+archive/yellow -- *dm upstart job should depend on acpid because X tries to connect to acpid socket very soon after starting. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496859 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity [ Karmic / Ambiance ] Currently metacity layout have only button for minimize, maximize and close an application. In Ubuntu some applications like Empathy, Gwibber and Evolution are minimized to the Messaging Menu instead of being closed when we click the 'close' button. Sadly, this make the window workflow inconsistent because we, the users, expect an application to close on clicking the close button. For those applications there should be a 'hide' button to indicate that they will go to the system tray (like Pino, Deluge, Messagin Menu ones, etc.). [Bug 535316] Re: random garbage on TTY1
Thanks for your report, Noel. I believe you are right about gdm. I think it's more probably about how/when gdm gets started. I also believe you are seeing scan codes that are being sent to X and that a getty/login session is also running on /dev/tty1 and is getting confused. In LP: #532047 the confusion may be between X and the plymouth daemon. Are you seeing occasional crashes when pressing certain keys by any chance? If so that might relate to LP: #529230. [Bug 445621] Re: libgtk2-perl FTBFS on all archs -- test failures
Well, the recent FTBFS has nothing to do with the original bug report from LaMont, but ok. There are two test failures in the current log. # Failed test at t/GtkAssistant.t line 42. # Looks like you failed 1 test of 27. t/GtkAssistant.t ... Dubious, test returned 1 (wstat 256, 0x100) Failed 1/27 subtests [...] # Failed test at t/GtkBuildableIface.t line 71. # got: 'TestThingView' # expected: 'view1' # Looks like you failed 1 test of 89. t/GtkBuildableIface.t .. Dubious, test returned 1 (wstat 256, 0x100) Failed 1/89 subtests The former is a deliberate behavior change in gtk+2.0 2.19.6, to permit gtk_assistant_get_nth_page(-1) to return the last page; so I think the libgtk-perl test should be corrected.
