[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-04-13 Thread Paul Sladen
** Description changed:

  === Master Bug ===
(As per the design team's request)
All bugs concerning the window controls are being duped to this master bug.
All the decisions regarding the position/order/alignment will be dealt as a
one.

  === Desire ===
"Please centre the window title like in previous Human theme, and also
re-order the window controls in classic order, positioned on the right side
(menu - title - minimize, maximize close)."

   Workaround
  1. Only new themes, such as Ambiance and Radiance will have buttons on the
left by default. You can continue using old themes, such as Human, in Lucid and
those themes will continue to have buttons on the right side (according to
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/532633/comments/577 ). It is even possible to
switch to Human theme and then 'Customize' it to use all the elements from
Radiance theme, but the button layout will stay on the right.

  2. To revert to old layout, run in a terminal:
  $ gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout --type string
"menu:minimize,maximize,close"
+
+ Return to defaults
+ If you would like to return to the system/theme default then run:
+ $ gconftool-2 --unset /apps/metacity/general/button_layout

[Bug 516520] Re: pam_unix(gdm:auth): conversation failed

2010-04-13 Thread Chris Thompson
By "disabling" I mean using the "System->Administration->Hardware
Drivers" and then specifying "Remove" as the action against Nvidia
proprietary driver.

Xorg.0.log.old is a better place to look as it seems that when X crashes
and restarts the crash log is remained .old, and the new instance of X
writes the (at the time of looking a good) Xorg.0.log file.

My reading of the problem described is that everyone has consistently
described the behaviour of the login window freezing and re-appearing
shortly after.

(Is there a way to receive an email notification when a new version of a
certain package is released?)

Uploaded an update; builds will be ready in a few minutes.

I haven't had any need (other than my own screw-ups) to update the PPA
packages for Karmic, since no new versions appear in the official
repository. I imagine this will also be the case with Lucid when it goes
stable.

[Bug 553200] Re: Mouse and keyboard stop working after selecting user

2010-04-13 Thread JmBARREDA
I think the bug is directly connected to the password authentication in gdm.
I deactivated passwords in gdm (adding "authsufficient pam_listfile.so
item=user sense=allow file=/etc/gdm/nopassusers.txt onerr=fail" in
/etc/pam.d/gdm file + my user name in /etc/gdm/nopassusers.txt) ; and I can
login & logout perfectly in gdm

[Bug 562777] [NEW] 10.04 liveCD fails to load GUI

2010-04-13 Thread AFarris01
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

when attempting to boot from a fresh ubuntu 10.04 beta2 CD, something
very strange happens: when it gets to the point where the GUI would
normally come up, the mouse appears, and the login sound plays, but the
GUI does not appear. It does this both when booting up with and without
the splash screen.

To solve, I must ctrl+alt+F1 to a terminal, kill Xorg (with sudo killall
Xorg, or from 'top') then ctrl+alt+F7 back. From there, the login screen
appears, and I must log in manually, but otherwise it works.

I guess this can be closed, as the backtrace showed it crashing inside a

Still, the question remains: WTF is rhythembox doing attempting to load
a mozilla/firefox plugin?

[Bug 562763] [NEW] Rhythmbox - iPod Touch 2nd Gen | Syncing work well but deleting leaves the entry in iPod database

2010-04-13 Thread Djo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm trying ubuntu 10.04 beta 2 (april 13th 2010).

Rhythmbox : 0.12.8-0ubuntu1
libgpod : 0.7.93-0ubuntu1
iPod Touch : 2nd gen 8gb (xB528)

Everything is good with the iPod. I had to create directory structure
wich went fine. If I add files on iPod everything is good, music sync,
plays, alleluia!

The problem is when I delete a file, the file is not delete in the
database. I unmounted normally the device, restarted the device, and the
database entry of the song is still there.

If I delete a song with gtkpod, the entry in the database is deleted,
everything is fine. Since rhythmbox uses libgpod, does it have to do
with ligpod or Rhythmbox?

With Rhythmbox, every files is added one by one, on the database and the
storage. The iPod does not stay in syncing for very long, it sync for
few secs and then the iPod is "usable" (since rhythmbox waits for audio
convertion wich is very looong...).

With gtkpod, all the action are in queue and done when you save changes.

Should rhythmbox change then database of the ipod everytime a file is
deleted? Is this libgpod part of the work or rhythmbox's?

I will fill the bug repport also for libgpod project.

Thank you guys, you do awesome work. Two (ten?) thumbs up for
decrypthing apple algorythm!

[Bug 561935] Re: Empathy allows no more than 3 contacts per group upon restart

2010-04-13 Thread WarriorIng64
Actually, after finding that the same problem exists on my laptop as on
my desktop, I found that all you actually need to do is to close Empathy
and restart it to make the extra contacts disappear. As for my laptop,
it is also Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, running on a Toshiba Satellite
A505-S6960.

[Bug 562751] [NEW] Certain links not clickable in evince

2010-04-13 Thread Dudude
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have encountered a series of PDFs that have links in them that will
not open Evince, but will open in Adobe Reader.

Since the links in the PDFs I have are pictures that are clicked on (as
shown in the attached screenshot) I filed this as a bug report separate
from bug report #514930.

The cursor turns into a hand when hovering above the link, but clicking
does nothing.

Hovering above the link in Adobe Reader has the cursor turn into a hand
and the clicking makes a warning appear about opening remote URLs and
asking if it should open the link you just clicked on.

fixed by the time they release the final version. i stopped using

[Bug 562721] [NEW] Lucid Lynx Beta 2: Screen stretches outside the bounds of the monitor

2010-04-13 Thread Richard Schwarz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Package version: 2.30.0-0ubuntu3

At login, the screen (resolution I guess) initially fits the monitor
(1024x768), but then, withing a second, stretches well beyond the
boudaries of the monitor. Only by remembering how to login to Ubuntu
allows me to do so, however, once logged in the screen stays stretched.

I can temporarily fix it (until next login) by going into hibernate
which bumps me back to the unlock screen (it's installed through Wubi in
a virtual drive, so not enough free space is what I'm told). This then
is in the right resolution/stretch and I can use it properly.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: gdm 2.30.0-0ubuntu3

Keys don't even exist. This is incredibly frustrating and it feels like
Firefox is broken for me because of how much this disrupts my work flow.
This needs to be fixed! I'm going to try inserting an older copy of
libmouse.so from Karmic to see if that will fix things, otherwise I'm
going to have to revert back to Karmic and I don't know what I'll do
when Lucid is officially released if this is still broken it disrupts my
work flow so much... :(

[Bug 562674] [NEW] nautilus Large file copy timed out

2010-04-13 Thread calvin streeting
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ok..
this took a while to work out...

I am copying large files (over 1gig) across a 100Mb lan from ubuntu to a
Fedora server using smb and i was getting slow file copy times, It would
start of good and then slowly degrade with large pauses in the disk and
network I/O until it would timeout.

So i spent some time testing samba (think server might be a fault),
Until i noticed by chance that if i copyed a test file to a blank
directory it would work fine. so i did another test to replicate the
problem and also break it again..

As far as i can gather nautilus must be trying to generate previews or
something and getting in the way of the file copy. also if i minimize
nautilus the file copy speeds up

I hope this helps and if you need any more info/tests let me know as i
have lots to copy to the server..

The Package is Nautilus 2.28.1 and the both systems are uptodate.

many thanks

calvin

[Bug 355996] Re: Power Management FAILS most of the time

2010-04-13 Thread Ernie 07
This is still and issue with 9.10 and 10.04 b2 (lucid-
desktop-i386_2010-04-12_0812). The screensaver should care about USER
inactivity while powersave should also be concerned with system
activity.

A diff of two hard drives that contain more than 200 GBs each will take
quite some time. Powersave should not kick in during this process but
the screensaver should work as configured by the user. This will
require two separate notions of inactivity, one for the screensaver only
and one for both powersave and the screensaver.

Shutdown, NOT suspend should be the default action when the power button
is pushed. There are many cases when a hung system can only be
addressed by removing power or forcing a shutdown. Shutting a hung
system via the power button will do less harm that simpply removing
power.

Finally, hibernate and NOT suspend should be the powersave default
because data will be lost during suspend if power is lost.

4) While using nautilus, I try to burn an iso image to a blank cd, and

I have the same problem. using ubuntu 10.04 had same issue with 9.10.
Locally logged in I can mount drives , but when using remote connections using
NX I cannot mount drives.

I have a pc with Debian Lenny and that has no issues at all mounting drives.
Although it doesn't

Based on what I have been able to google it looks like it is probably
related to the policy kit stuff

there may be some script which is ran when the system is run locally but
isn't run in NX sessions.

[Bug 562645] [NEW] Evolution Warnings: "Error while Storing folder 'Inbox'", "Error while Fetching Mail"

2010-04-13 Thread Friedrich Bücking
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution 2.28.1
Ubuntu 9.10

For the past 2 days I've constantly been receiving the following Evolution
Warnings: "Error while Storing folder 'Inbox'" and "Error while Fetching Mail".
So far I can't see what's wrong. I don't have any problems. Evolution fetches
all new mails from my mail server. All incoming mails are stored inside the
folder 'Inbox'. No problems at all, but the warnings persist and keep
bothering me every time when Evolution fetches mails! The warning "Error while
Storing folder 'Inbox'" additionally pops up every time when I open a different
Evolution folder.
A ClamAV scan exposed 'Email.Trojan-108' in my inbox. There are 142 mails in my
inbox and I haven't found the trojan yet.The only way I know for pinpointing
the trojan is moving each file one by one into a separate folder and scanning
this folder for the trojan. Do you know an easier way than moving back and

[Bug 257190] Re: Setting status to 'Hidden' changes status to 'Busy' instead

2010-04-13 Thread McIvor
Lucid Beta 2, MSN seems to be having this problem. Using either Empathy

if I leave it for a while, it shows in the contact list as Busy (not
sure how long this takes, though).

Do you have a /usr/share/locale-langpack/hu/LC_MESSAGES/gtkhtml-3.14.mo file?
In theory, this should be in the langpack...

[Bug 562633] [NEW] "Find" and "Replace" dialogs shows untranslated, and can't be translated

2010-04-13 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The "Find" and "Replace" dialogs (Edit->Find... and Edit->Replace... in
Compose Message window) shows untranslated in my Spanish desktop, and
can't be translated because the affected strings aren't in the Launchpad
template:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/evolution/+pots/evolution/es/+translate

The affected strings are the following:

  - "Find"
  - "Search _backwards"
  - "Case _sensitive"
  - "_Regular expression"
  - "Replace"
  - "R_eplace:"
  - "_With:"

None of the above strings are in the template.

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem.

3. I have a dual monitor configuration, with NVidia TwinView (2 X
1680x1050 monitors). With gnome terminal I tried to resize a window by
grabbing the side of the window and dragging it to a size larger then a
single monitor.

4. What happened was that I was unable to move my mouse past the monitor
boundary (it would not move on to the screen of the next monitor). I
was able to make the window straddle the 2 screens by moving the window,
but then if I tried to resize the window it would snap back to the
closest monitor edge.

[Bug 562610] [NEW] Empathy sends unnecessary notifications to the indicator applet

2010-04-13 Thread Jarlath
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I have an IRC account setup with empathy, as well as Google Talk.
Everytime I enable chat, the envelope turns green with a message from
the NickServ telling me I have been identified (it's Freenode).

So the problem is that everytime I want to enable chat, I have to open
and dismiss that message to clear the indicator so that when a relevant
message comes through, I'll know about it.

I think it should be possible to tell Empathy to ignore messages / chats
from certain channels / people / bots etc. Either at a user level, or
internally. As it stands, the indicator is made redundant from startup
(until I clear it).

[Bug 186307] Re: Window List Invisibility Issue (Programs Disappear And Come Back Randomly)

2010-04-13 Thread aztektum
Similar issue here, though I use Windows Selector and don't have a "task
bar". Running Lucid beta 2 but this has been an issue for a few
releases. Applications that are open will not show in the list,
minimized or not.

I can't seem to take a screenshot of the list when it's being viewed,
but right now I have Tbird 3, Terminal, Google Chrome and an email I'm
editing open. All but Terminal are minimized. Terminal is maximized and
only Google Chrome and the email I'm writing show up in the list. No
entry for Terminal or Thunderbird.

It's been worse, sometimes I will have 12 or so windows open, all in
various states of maximized/minimized and only 1 or 2 show up.

You are absolutely correct, I do not have that directory.

When I try and create a folder, it is immediately deleted for some

How would I go about updating libgpod through apt?

[Bug 562588] [NEW] PDF files with no password ask for one anyway

2010-04-13 Thread Chuck Money
Public bug reported:

Well...Attached is a PDF file. This file is a case action summary from
v2.alacourt.com. (I'm a paralegal, I open tens or even a hundred of
these a day.) The PDF files generated by Alacourt open fine in every
PDF reader on every system except those based on libpoppler on Ubuntu.
Here, they ask me for a password despite there being no password on the
file. This seems to happen at random - some files do this, some do not.
However, every PDF client using libpoppler has the same issue whenever
it does occur, so I believe the issue is not in evince (the default PDF
reader and the one I typically use) but rather a bug in the underlying
library. There is one reader in the repos that does not use libpoppler
that I tried before and it would work, but I don't see it in 10.04.
Also, this exact same file will open fine in GIMP, but it's kinda stupid
to have to open a document in an image editor just to read it.

If you'd like to test it like I have, open this file an Adobe Acrobat
and it will render fine, no password requested. Same with Foxit Reader.
Same with Sumatra. Same with Preview on OSX 10.5.8. Same with the PDF
reader on my Android phone. There is no password on this file, and as
such, no other reader asks for one, but for whatever unknown reason,
anything based on libpoppler does.

Usually when this happens (on roughly half the files generated by
alacourt, as well as one other site I visited once, I forget where) I
just open it in Foxit via WINE, but not only am I getting sick and tired
of that, I've also just "upgraded" from a 320GB HDD to a 16GB SSD (data
is still on a USB HDD), so installing 100MB worth of WINE and Foxit is
really, really undesirable right now.

I'm doing this in 10.04, however the same bug manifests itself on the
same files in 9.10 and 9.04 as well. My hardware is an Intel Core 2 Duo
at 2.0GHz, 4GB DDR2, 16GB SSD, GeForce 9650m, don't even know the rest.
I am running 64-bit, but I can also recreate the same issue in a fresh
install of 9.10/9.04/10.04 32-bit on both real hardware and in a
VirtualBox VM, so I am 100% certain this is NOT an issue related to my
hardware. I will try any fix anyone suggests unless it is related to my
hardware, that is just not the problem. I have partimage and have
backed up the whole system so I would be willing to try a reinstall if
necessary however I just installed this 9 days ago (a fresh install
after formatting from 9.10) and the problem existed out of the box (as
well as in 9.10), so I don't see how that will help.

Thoughts?

(Also, FYI, this is a case action summary and it is thus public record,
so before anyone starts moaning about privilege to a certified paralegal
as though I'm not already aware, it's fine. Not trying to be a
preemptive prick, but I had 3 people on a forum reply to me a year ago
about this the first time I tried to fix it in 9.04, and all any of them
could do is try to educate ME about MY job rather than offer me any
actual technical help.)

[Bug 526379] Re: GDM login fails with regular gnome-session (lucid, i386)

2010-04-13 Thread Ivan Gualandri
I have the same problem with lucid lynx beta 1/2.

If I stop GDM with "sudo service gdm stop" and then launch x via normal
startx everything work fine.

But if i try to login with GDM, after clicking on a user, gdm restart
itself.

[Bug 560665] Re: gnome-appearance-manager doesn't set font setting for whole system

2010-04-13 Thread stenliq
I' am talking about different rendering of fonts. In Ubuntu is no simple
way to change it globally. Have a look on the screenshot I've posted and
you will see.

This bugreport isn't about buttons at all :))

not sure what you mean there exactly, the buttons are on the left with
light themes (the default ubuntu) and on the right in other themes, the
order change correctly when changing the theme in the configuration
dialog

[Bug 229187] Re: Evolution mailing list does not render accents correctly

2010-04-13 Thread David Ayers
This bug indeed is a separate issue from the one mentioned above. It still
exists in Karmic.
I will report back once I've upgraded to Lucid after the release.
