[Bug 769234] Re: Notifications are delayed if contacts send messages too fast

2011-06-06 Thread Th3Pr0ph3t
@Martin Pitt : I tested the way this works on Unity and I'm impressed:
It works great! --at least with one contact sending several messages.

However, testing the thing more thoroughly -- and I don't think this will truly
be a problem -- I noticed that if two people send one message per second or so
the second person's messages are not notified at all.
MSN messenger responds to this with several notifications, one on top of the
other.
Empathy 2.34.0 from the -proposed repository seems to handle this quite well.

The fix is good for me and the quick response to this bug was great.

Thanks for fixing it so fast!

[Bug 610131] Re: Facebook contacts cannot be added to groups

2011-06-06 Thread Kyle Nystrom
Honestly, how is this bug classified as "Won't Fix?" Facebook is one of
the most utilized protocols regardless of which client someone uses.
The whole point of using an IM client such as empathy, pidgin, or digsby
is to combine multiple protocols into one EASY TO USE interface.

If the empathy developers really don't have the time or want to put in
the effort to fix an issue associated with one of their biggest
protocols that is fine, but they should also expect to lose users in the
process.

Again, the reason most users want to use empathy, or clients like
empathy, is to group contacts from multiple sources into a single, easy
to use interface.

I hope that this is fixed soon, or I will be turning to a different
client that fixes issues like this.

[Bug 327082] Re: Totem crashes on loading files

2011-06-06 Thread Paul van Genderen
This is still an issue in Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 (fully updated) but the
request_code is different so I'm not sure if it's the same bug.

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 93 error_code 2 request_code 133 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I could not break on gdk_x_error, will look into it later.

[Bug 689426] Re: Confusing error message when an audio call fails

2011-06-06 Thread Arseniy Alekseyev
Sorry for slow response. I have updated the report with the empathy
version and the steps to reproduce. Actually this is not really a bug,
but rather just bad error message.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: empathy
+
+ I am using empathy 2.34.0.

I received the following message when the sound capture failed during an
  audio call:

There was a failure in the call engine:
  Could not link source

The underlying problem turned out to be incorrect configuration of the
default gstreamer source. I had /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc GConf
key set to "osssrc" while I did not have OSS installed.
ALSA-based applications worked perfectly so I had no idea why empathy would
fail.

- The problem became obvious when I executed the following command: gst-
+
+ So, steps to reproduce:
+ - Set the value of gconf variable '/system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc'
to 'osssrc' without OSS installed.
+ - Run empathy.
+ - Connect to a google talk, for example.
+ - Try to make an audio or video-call.
+
+ You will receive that confusing message.
+
+
+ The problem becomes obvious when I execute the following command: gst-
  launch-0.10 gconfaudiosrc ! gconfaudiosink

- The output clearly showed what went wrong:
+ The output shows what's wrong:

ERROR: from element /GstBin:bin0/GstOssSrc:osssrc0: Could not open audio
device for recording.
  Additional debug info:
  gstosssrc.c(379): gst_oss_src_open (): /GstBin:bin0/GstOssSrc:osssrc0:
Unable to open device /dev/dsp for recording: No such file or directory

- I think it would be great if the empathy error "Technical details"
- showed this information or at least hint what it was trying to do (open
- the "gconfaudiosrc" gstreamer element).

- Even a slight modification of the error message could make it vastly more
useful:
+ I think it would be great if the empathy error "Technical details" showed the
information reported or at least hint what it was trying to do (open the
"gconfaudiosrc" gstreamer element).
+
+ Even a slight modification of the error message could make it vastly more
useful, like
"Could not link gstreamer source 'gconfaudiosrc'."

[Bug 793763] [NEW] The resize window area is overlaying with buttons

2011-06-06 Thread Alex Moldovan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

The resize window area is overlaying with some buttons. It happens in
Gnome (No effects) so it's not related to compiz. To reproduce, open
"Appearance" and switch back and forth between themes. You'll see that
the resize windows area comes over the "Close" button. This happens in
other instances using other applications but this is the first example
that came to my mind. I will try to post other occurrences of this
issue. See the down right corner of the screenshot, the edge of the
Close button.

[Bug 792497] Re: Gnome-session crashed by various applications

2011-06-06 Thread Aisano
It just happened again: When I opened calibre and clicked on the
"convert" icon my GNOME session crashed, leaving me with the login
screen. Linux was fine and even preserved my open DSL connection.

I attach my auth.log and syslog, which seem to contain a few suspicious lines,
such as:
* polkitd(authority=local): Unregistered Authentication Agent for
unix-session:/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session2...
* gdm-session-worker[4652]: WARNING: Unable to load file
'/etc/gdm/custom.conf'...
* gdm-simple-greeter[4649]: Gtk-WARNING:
/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.24.4/gtk/gtkwidget.c:5687: widget not within a GtkWindow
* gdm-session-worker[4652]: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL: g_value_get_boolean:
assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_BOOLEAN (value)' failed

Especially the assertion in the last line does not seem very reassuring
to me but I have no idea what may have caused it. Grepping older logs
shows, however, that this assertion was also logged on days when Gnome
did not crash.

[Bug 113230] Re: Status title should be gender-dependant

2011-06-06 Thread Maia Kozheva
I concur with emory. Statuses should be gender-neutral - in *all*
localizations. If the Russian localization is worded in a gender-
specific way, it's the Russian localization's problem. (I would suggest
gender-neutral Russian translations such as "Нет на месте").

Empathy doesn't even have a setting for user gender and frankly, it's
none of its business.

[Bug 711355] Re: Songs synced to iPhone 4 do not appear in iPod app

2011-06-06 Thread Luke Faraone
As I pointed out in comment 3, the problem has been identified upstream
in gtkpod.

The issue is that the new database format used by the iPhone cannot be
parsed by gtkpod.

The problem is confirmed. Please do not post additional comments just to
indicate you are also experiencing the problem; instead use the "Does
this bug affect you?" link.

[Bug 784519] Re: Natty: performance regression of Gnome terminal

2011-06-06 Thread Martin Konopka
I will test it and let you know then.
Now I have to say that I am getting the issue not only when the machine is
under a high CPU workload
but also when it is just up for some longer time (uptime), say 1-2 weeks or so
and it is of course used
for activities like multiple ssh logins to other machines, typing commands in
the terminals, text output
on to the terminals etc.
It does not help to close those terminals and to open new ones. I have to
reboot the whole machine.

2011-06-06 Thread steubens
i couldn't figure out how to get nautilus to keep from spawning, i
copied the autostart .desktop to .local/share/applications and changed
it to not autostart but apparently that didn't override the main one; i
also tried nautilus -q, and searching for whatever gconf keys are
restarting it, to no avail; pedro, if you know or know where i can ask
someone (i already asked on #nautilus on gimpnet, not many people
around) i'd appreciate it

[Bug 793616] Re: lucid and maverick are incompatible with latest iOS

2011-06-06 Thread Marc Deslauriers
SRU Request:

Impact of the issue: Lucid and Maverick users that update the firmware
of their iPod Touch and iPhone devices can no longer access them in
Lucid and Maverick.

This issue was resolved by backporting a couple of minimal changes from
the upstream tree. These fixes already ship in Natty. See attached
debdiffs for Lucid and Maverick.

I tested this update on Lucid with gtkpod and rhythmbox on an iPod Touch
still running 4.0.1, and an iPod Touch that had been upgraded to 4.3.3.
The updated packages solved the issue for the new iOS version, while
maintaining compatibility with the old one.

Re: [Bug 680148] Nautilus does not show emblems.

2011-06-06 Thread Rob
Thanks for your reply. A power spike during a thunder storm resulted in
the boot sequence of Ubuntu becoming corrupted. I had to reinstall from
CD. After that, the emblems were OK. Since then, I have never tried to
synchronize any folders outside the Ubuntu One folder and all emblems
display OK now. I think the problem resulted from my trying to
synchronize folders outside Ubuntu One and the other named home folders.
Thanks.

Unable to perform search.

[Bug 793553] [NEW] I cannot configure GNOME so that my laptop does not suspend when closing the lid

2011-06-06 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

I often use my laptop with the lid closed, by SSHing in and having the
application windows displaying on the 23-inch monitor of my PC. Now with
Oneiric a problem occured. All the sophisticated, fine-grained
configuration tools were thrown away in favor of the much more
simplified apps in the new GNOME System Settings (I successfully
defended system-config-printer with the following Blueprint/UDS session:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config-
printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center) and so there is no way any more to
select what should happen when closing the laptop's lid (should be under
"Power") and this is currently hard-coded to suspend the laptop. One
also cannot set the screen to never turn off (under "Screen"). Can we
get these controls back?
