[Bug 1423182] Re: Gnome-flashback: No (easy) way to log out

2015-04-22 Thread Chris Phoenix
If "default" means the first thing I see when I install the "fallback"
desktop, then the "default" configuration does not have a way to log
out.

Several minutes of googling tells me I can use gnome-session-quit in the
terminal. OK, I can memorize that... but I would not call this "easily
usable" and certainly not by non-skilled users.

I also tried to google for how to install indicator-applet, and found
that there are a dozen to choose from. I tried to find how to manually
add User Menu / Shutdown applets to the panel, and couldn't find it.

As a new Ubuntu user, I want a system that is easy to log out from, and
this is not that.

[Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)

2015-04-22 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
gnome-session was aborting if acceleration check failed. This bug was
about fixing it so it is possible to bypass this check. Bypassing this
check allows gnome-session to start.

You need to use session that does not require hardware acceleration, but
from you comment - you are using. As Ryan already told - you need to get
and paste log file to find why session does not fully start.

lightdm and other display manager are setting environment variables -
this might be your problem.

One thing you could try is to add this line before /usr/bin/gnome-session line:
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP="Unity"

Then you will need also this line:
export XDG_MENU_PREFIX="gnome-flashback-"

Also you could add --debug to gnome-session line as it might show some
info why needed components are not started.

Re: [Bug 1440275] Re: Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ

2015-04-22 Thread Ki Bum Lee
Yes, I did. I even removed Korean language pack and reinstalled it to see
if the reinstallation makes the choice of regions available, but it still
shows limited choice of British Commonwealth countries and the US. As you
probably know, I don't need to install language pack separately, since when
you set the locale to Korean, the system automatically downloads all the
necessary language packs. So far no flavors of Ubuntu 15.04 cause the same
issue but Ubuntu GNOME. (I even tried Fedora 22 alpha 1 and it did not have
such an issue.) I found this issue about three weeks ago. I hoped the issue
is gone after the RC version is released, but it is still there. Like I
said, I will fresh install the 15.04 on another machine after tomorrow's
release to see if the issue is gone.

[Bug 795901] Re: Cannot log into Unity, Gnome. Cannot launch GTK apps

2015-04-22 Thread Bernardo Oliveira
I'm having a similar problem in Trusty, but Gnome has been saving me for
now as it's the only option that works at login. After logging into
Unity all I get is the wallpaper and cursor.

It started while running 14.10 and the machine simply shut down while I
was on Steam. I've searched a bit and other people with the same issue
said it came up after upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10. I had updated for a
while with no issues. They've mentioned something related to plymouth
and graphics.

By now I've reinstalled Ubuntu a few times with no luck.

2015-04-22 Thread Ki Bum Lee
I did, but it didn't work. So what I did instead was version upgrade from
14.10 to 15.04 and the locale and regional format remained unchanged. I may
try to fresh install the Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 on another machine and see if
the bug is still there.

[Bug 1447357] [NEW] reduce delay before loading icon is displayed

2015-04-22 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
Public bug reported:

When it takes time to display the content of a directory an animated
loading icon is displayed in the lower right directory view window

believe that the directory is empty. Is should be made sure that the

Unity does not work under NX 3.5. These changes do not address that.

You should be seeing the classic GNOME desktop with panels on top and
bottom. I've just tested the same gnome-session command you mentioned
under x2goserver (based on NX 3.5) and it works.

Please double-check the versions of the relevant packages:
- gnome-session-bin 3.9.90-0ubuntu12.1
- libgnome-desktop-3-7 3.8.4-0ubuntu3.1

If you still have problems, please log into your NX with just "xterm" as
the command (or "gnome-terminal"), run your gnome-session command in
that terminal, and pastebin the output somewhere.

[Bug 1447282] [NEW] Prompted for cryptoswap passphrase when using GPT partitioning + encrypted home directory (ecryptfs)

2015-04-22 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Public bug reported:

I'm still sorting out the details and eliminating variables, but as far
as I can tell:

Steps to reproduce
===

1) Install Ubuntu using GPT partitioning for the OS drive[*]

2) Choose "require my password to login", and check "encrypt my home
directory"

Expected behavior
===

No special user interaction should be required to initialized the
crytposwap other than normally logging in

Actual behavior

Prior to lightdm coming up, you will be prompted to enter your
passphrase to unlock the cryptoswap, similar to how you would be
prompted to unlock the OS drive when using full disk encryption (see
attached photo).

When lightdm comes up, you have to enter your password/passphrase again
to login.

Work-arounds
===

1) This only seems to happen when using GTP partitioning, not MBR... so
use MBR if you can

2) Even with GTP partitioning, booting with init=/sbin/upstart seems to
reliably fix the problem, so it certainly seems systemd related

Notes
=

* As far as I can tell, there isn't a way to force Ubiquity to create a
GPT partition table when the OS drive is < 2TB, but it will
automatically use GPT partitioning when the OS drive is >= 2TB. My
particular test was done using the System76 imaging server, which by
default uses GPT partitioning even when the OS drive is < 2TB.

[Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)

2015-04-22 Thread martin lantz
Hello,

I am a bit confused on what to expect with the bug fixes that just have
been released.

I have NX version 3.5 installed on a Ubuntu 14.04 server. I have just
install the relevant version of the packages discussed above.

I can login successfully running the following command
"/etc/X11/Xsession mate-session"

But when I login using "/usr/bin/gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback
--disable-acceleration-check" the desktop appears but there is no menu
and no unity launcher.

Is this what I should expect or is there something else that I am is
missing?

Kind regards,
Martin

[Bug 1447224] [NEW] Regression: Unable to select audio or subtitle tracks

2015-04-22 Thread Peter Würtz
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04 neither Totem nor VLC are able to select
different audio tracks or subtitles when playing videos with multiple
tracks. This is a regression from Ubuntu 14.10 where playback of such
files was working as expected. I tried this on multiple machines running
15.04 and with various media, mostly MKV videos but also AVI videos or
simply DVDs.

On Totem the expected functionality in the application menu is missing
or the menu item is just empty.

On VLC the menu items are present but always disabled.

[Bug 1426307] Re: location is inaccurate

2015-04-22 Thread Luksus
Here I have some outputs and logs...
Sometimes the Terminal-app crashed, if I selected some text and touched it.
After this the output of "ubuntu-location-serviced-cli --bus system --get
--property visible_space_vehicles" gave me an error and I was not able to
deactivate/reactivate the GPS or wifi-location-thing - the switches just jumped
back.

[Bug 1440275] [NEW] Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ

2015-04-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 Beta 2. I set the system locale to Korean
language, which worked okay. When I tried to set regional format (date,
time, currency, number, metric, etc.), however, the options are only
limited to 5 regions: US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. I do live
in the US, but I want to set the regional format in Korean because that
goes with the system language. I currently set the regional format to
that of Canada because I am not familiar with US system of yards, feet
and pounds. As you can see in the attached screenshot, the date format
shown on the middle of the task bar is a mixture of English and Korean
(Frankenstein-ish).

As I browsed through the bug report launchpad site, I found this bug has
a long history which dates back to Ubuntu version 9.04. I have installed
Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS on my other computer and it does not have the
same bug. I guess it has something to do with the newly introduced
"systemd"?

I would very much like to see this bug is fixed ASAP (at least before
the release of 15.04 proper version). I love GNOME interface, but this
bug annoys me. Regards.

This exceptions were not reported until we added the check in the
io_service executor so they probably have been happening since the early
stages of the download feature. This has happened several times over 3G
which is not that fast in my countyr of residence in some cases (Spain).

[Bug 1447110] [NEW] location service fills disk with logs, needs to ship logrotate config

2015-04-22 Thread Oliver Grawert

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ sudo du -hcs /var/log/ubuntu-location-service/

seems location service never cleans up its logs, while they are small, the
sheer amount over time occupies a lot of diskspace ...
ubuntu-location-service needs to ship a config in /etc/logrotate.d to make
sure the log subdir gets regulary flushed.

I can create this message only if I use "kill -9 " in
the client host. If I use "kill ", I never get this
error on the remote host.

I also do not get this error from the remote host if I reboot the client
host. I suspect in this case the kill mode is correct.

[Bug 1446125] Re: slapd.service missing

2015-04-22 Thread Martin Pitt
"apt-get install slapd" works here on 15.04, it starts slapd:

$ systemctl status slapd
● slapd.service - LSB: OpenLDAP standalone server (Lightweight Directory Access
Protocol)
   Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/slapd)
Active: active (running) since Wed 2015-04-22 10:59:45 BST; 7s ago
 Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)
   CGroup: /system.slice/slapd.service
   └─1507 /usr/sbin/slapd -h ldap:/// ldapi:/// -g openldap -u openldap
-F /etc/ldap/slapd.d

Indeed there's no native unit, but that's fine -- the init.d script
should work fine. What does "systemctl status slapd"? say after a fresh
boot (and with custom slapd.service removed)?
