[Bug 2029361] Re: evolution does not start
Hi all, I'm also affected on both a 22.04 desktop upgraded ever since and a 22.04 laptop with an inital install of 22.04. My ~./bashrc and ~./profile were never changed, renaming them or copying the version from /etc/skel did not solve the issue for me. Strangely, only my user profile with preexisting evolution configuration is affected, in other user accounts on the machine (without evolution configured), configuration wizard starts normally. Any help is greatly appreaciated as I do'nt seem to be able to solve this for me. Hi all, unfortunately, I have the same problem with that update, but renaming ~/.profile and ~/.bashrc does not help. Anyway, I never did custom changes to these files. [Bug 1926006] Re: Suspend, restart and power off don't work, crashes the system and logs me out.
Thank you for responding. I tried to restart, but all I got was a flashing cursor in the top left of my screen. So, in the end, I had to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch. The same problem re-occurred again, and forced me to re-install from scratch a third time. This last time, from the very first boot after removing the installation media, I went to the Nvidia app and switched from "On-demand" to "Intel only". This time it rebooted in Wayland, while giving me also the option to boot into X.org or Classic Gnome, and everything worked perfectly, both in Wayland and in X.org. Finally, just to try once more to use my Nvidia card, prepared as I was to re-install fresh one last time, I set Nvidia to "On-demand" and booted into X.org (Wayland wasn't offered) without any problem persisting at all. Therefore, I think the problem is something to do with the Nvidia card not saving the relevant setting in on first boot into "On-demand" mode, and you need to set it to another mode and then switch for the settings to be saved correctly. Otherwise, I can't explain it. I did nothing strange with any other settings, installs or configurations. I believe, therefore, that it is the Nvidia card, with the Nvidia proprietary driver, that is preventing the computer from suspending, sleep, hibernating, starting, powering off (by command or GUI - only button physical button works), or whatever. It seems that the Nvidia card stays active, preventing the system from deactivating. Apart from that it could possibly have something to do with the HDPI screen, that requires fractional scaling to be usable, although I hadn't yet set fractional scaling when I had the problems. Of course I can add the log if you think it would help, but right now I have a perfectly functioning system (apart from the apt get installed Firefox which glitches in the menu and consumes excessive RAM - most likely unrelated - and is resolved by uninstalling the apt install and installing the Firefox Snap). [Bug 1926006] [NEW] Suspend, restart and power off don't work, crashes the system and logs me out.
Public bug reported: Suspend, restart and power off simply don't work. The system crashes, logs me out and takes me back to the log-in screen. It possibly has something to do with the Nvidia driver (460), but is the same with the Nouveau driver enabled. I used system76-power previously to set Nvidia On-demand, but this does not work any more, and conflicts with nvidia- prime. However, uninstalling both makes no difference - possibly the configuration is badly set and not re-set. The hardware I'm using is possibly a bit niche. The laptop is Huawei Matebook Pro X. I had the problem yesterday on 20.10, and updated today to 21.04 to see if the problem would be resolved, but no luck. [Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop
Adam Niedling: That's a long story. Very briefly, about 2 years ago the GNOME project, which develops Nautilus, decided to remove support for desktop icons from Nautilus, controversially: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/01/gnome-desktop-icons-removed-3-28 Ubuntu still wants desktop icons, so it needs to implement them in some other way, and so it uses the Desktop Icons shell extension. As Paddy mentioned above, there is a newer version of Desktop Icons called Desktop Icons NG, which is under active development: https://gitlab.com/rastersoft/desktop-icons-ng I myself run Desktop Icons NG too. It is still a long way from having all the functionality of Nautilus, but it is slowly getting better. It should be included in the next Mutter release (presumably 3.36.4). So it is not yet available in Ubuntu, which is why the status for "Mutter (Ubuntu)" at the top of the page is still "Confirmed". Davide, that's a very interesting discovery that every other copy/paste fails when you use the menu caommands. I see that on my machine too. ** Description changed: In Ubuntu 19.10 and 20.04 there was a bug that caused copy and paste operations to fail pretty often: the text that was pasted was not the text that was just copied. See the long discussion at bug #1852183. The bug was recently marked closed, since the package mutter - 3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 landed in focal-updates and makes the bug occur much less frequently. Unfortunately the bug still exists, and is not difficult to reproduce. I am running Ubuntu 20.04 and have the new 3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 - version of mutter. I just opened two LibreOffice Write windows side by + version of mutter. I just opened two LibreOffice Writer windows side by side, and repeatedly selected some text in the left window, copied it, then attempted to paste it into the right window. In my experiment, approximately 1 in every 20 paste operations failed: it did not paste the text that was just copied, but instead the text that was copied before that. Now, an error rate of 1 in 20 may not seem so bad. On the other hand, if you spend all day writing a document and copy and paste dozens of times during the day, then you may hit this bug multiple times per day (as I have been recently), which is a significant annoyance. I tested in LibreOffice since that is where I have seen the bug most often, but I have also seen it occur in other applications as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879968 Title: copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice on Ubuntu 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1879968/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)
Once again I am the original reporter - Daniel recently asked for my opinion about whether this bug has been fixed. I have now been running with the proposed 3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 package for three days, during which I have done a fair amount of editing with copying and pasting. During that time I saw this copy/paste bug occur twice: once on 5/16 when I couldn't copy and paste from Epiphany (a web browser) to gedit, and once on 5/17 when I couldn't copy and paste from a LibreOffice Writer window into another LibreOffice Writer window. My opinion is that the proposed fix is a definite improvement, because I am sure that without it I would have seen more copy/paste failures these last few days. [Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10
I think that the upstream bug https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/878 may not be the same issue. This bug has "X11" in the title, and so it really refers to behavior under X11. On Ubuntu 19.10, if I run an X11 session then copying/pasting fails very often, especially in LibreOffice. For this reason I switched to Wayland several weeks ago. Under Wayland, copying/pasting still fails occasionally, but far less often. I saw copy/paste failures dozens of times per day under X11, and now they happen maybe once or twice per day in Wayland (with intensive use of LibreOffice in both cases). In a comment in the mutter bug linked above, Carlos Garnacho wrote This is wayland specific. So it is unclear to me that the patches linked there (which are to both GTK and mutter) will fix the problem in X11. Sorry, I misremembered my results from yesterday. I just checked again. The permissions are in fact different: the Nautilus-created files are 644 (because my "New Text Document.txt" template in ~/Templates is 644), while files created with e.g. touch are 664. Since both allow me, the owning user, to write the file, vim still shouldn't have problems, but it does seem like that is the underlying cause, rather than Nautilus having been used to create the file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813679 Title: vim-gtk can no longer save to GVFS SFTP mounts in 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1813679/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 1813679] Re: vim-gtk can no longer save to GVFS SFTP mounts in 18.04
The permissions and ownership are the same. It seems to persist across ejecting and remounting the SSH mount. I can see if it persists across a reboot or magically spreads from one SSH mount to a different mount (via a different hostname/ip for the same machine), but I suspect it won't. [Bug 1825450] Re: gnome-panel crashed with SIGABRT when accessing the preferences of the Weather Report applet
Hello KyL416, or anyone else affected, Accepted gnome-applets into disco-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- applets/3.30.0-3build1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-disco to verification-done-disco. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-disco. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Changed in: gnome-applets (Ubuntu Disco) Status: New => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-disco -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-applets in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825450 Title: gnome-panel crashed with SIGABRT when accessing the preferences of the Weather Report applet To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/1825450/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
