[Bug 274950] Re: Look into switching to bluez 4.x
** Description changed: - Binary package hint: bluez-utils + BlueZ 4.x resolves two regressions that are seen in the 3.x stack on + Intrepid. - As discussed in IRC on #ubuntu-motu, BlueZ 4.x resolves regressions that are seen in the 3.x stack on Intrepid. - * Particularly, keyboards aren't able to pair in the UI. -- The combination of bluez-utils 3.36 and the btusb kernel module seems to be causing problems when pairing bluetooth keyboards. - * Broken services tab (completely gone in 4.x) -- This is fixed in bluez-gnome 0.28 or anything later. However you need to switch to a package in the 4.x series when using the bluez 4.x stack. + Regressions solved + --- + * Keyboards aren't able to pair in the UI. +- The combination of bluez-utils 3.36 and the btusb kernel module seems to be causing problems when pairing bluetooth keyboards. Reverting to an earlier release of bluez-utils is not a good solution as a lot of bugs were fixed by coming up to 3.36. - Additionally, the bluez stack's usability is improved in the 4.x version. - * Usability - there is a pairing wizard with 4.x which is ages beyond what was in 3.x + * Broken services tab + - In the 3.x stack, the services tab is unfortunately the only way to activate new devices. + - This is fixed in bluez-gnome 0.28 or anything later. However you need to switch to a package in the 1.x series when using the Bluez 4.x stack. + + Newer features + -- + The 4.x version brings an additional UI element, a pairing wizard. This may cause problems for documentation teams, but considering the previous UI was not intuitive, there likely hasn't been a lot of documentation on it. - Test packages will be provided in a PPA. + Testing + -- + The entire stack that needs to be changed for this bug is available on the Bluetooth team testing PPA at http://launchpad.net/~bluetooth/+archive . + * Builds are all verified functional for i386, amd64, lpia + * These builds have all been test installed by adding the PPA to an up to date Intrepid and doing a dist-upgrade. + * Functionality has been verified for keyboards, mice, OBEX browsing, OBEX sending, and DUN via rfcomm. -- Look into switching to bluez 4.x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I've supplied a fix to upstream gnome which as been added to their tree to resolve the issue. - I propose that this should be turned off by default, and if someone - wants to use it for say debugging a long time for a suspend to kick in, - or a slow resume they can enable it themselves. + Impact: + This bug is cosmetic (per say, since it's an audible sound), but can get rather annoying. - Unfortunately there isn't a good test case for this as it only happens - randomly on the way back up during resume. Sometimes performing 10 - suspend/resume cycles in a row won't even produce it. + Test Case: + 1) Ensure audio is working + 2) Ensure that the checkbox to play a noise in the event of an error is checked + 3) Suspend a machine that is known machine for 6 hours + 4) Listen for a series of annoying beeps + + Regression Potential: + This code path is only used when suspending 6 hours. RE: [Bug 160264] Re: [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked
Chris, The underlying problem is still an issue with the NVIDIA driver's handling of offscreen windows. An upcoming NVIDIA release will resolve it. [Bug 160264] Re: [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked
I have some additional information for this bug after discussing the issue with NVIDIA. The bug that is occurring is indeed a bug in their driver, but requires large changes that won't be happening very soon. This bug however, is only being exposed due to a patch that is added to compiz, 030_fix_screensaver. Looking at the changelog, this patch is here for this reason: compiz (1:0.6.2+git20071018-0ubuntu2) hardy; urgency=low * debian/patches/030_fix_screensaver: - never unredirect the gnome-screensaver window to prevent breaking the keyboard grab (#145123) -- Michael Vogt [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon, 29 Oct 2007 12:57:25 -0400 That however, is no longer necessary since the bug that it was working around was in the X server, and fixed by git commit: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=a6a7fadbb03ee99312dfb15ac478ab3c414c1c0b We absorbed this patch in the X server when merging from debian earlier: xorg-server (2:1.4.1~git20080118-1) unstable; urgency=low [ Brice Goglin ] * Add 42_dont_break_grab_and_focus_for_window_when_redirecting.diff to prevent password authentication bypass, closes: #449108. [ Julien Cristau ] * New upstream snapshot + includes the security fixes from the previous version + fixes regression introduced by the fix for CVE-2007-6429 in the MIT-SHM extension (closes: #461410) -- Brice Goglin [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri, 18 Jan 2008 22:20:32 +0100 Once the 030_fix_screensaver patch is dropped, compiz works correctly on NVIDIA cards. ** CVE added: http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi- bin/cvename.cgi?name=2007-6429 ** Attachment added: debdiff to disable screensaver patch to compiz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14069204/disable_screensaver_patch.debdiff ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195914] [NEW] Ekiga gstreamer inputs default to outdated V4L, and require to be changed to V4L2
