[Bug 40701] Re: creating a folder to computer not permitted but folder listed anyway

2016-10-15 Thread Rouben
gnome-vfs has been deprecated and superseded by gio/gvfs since GNOME
2.22, hence mass-closing many of the gnome-vfs requests/bug reports.
This means that gnome-vfs is NOT actively maintained anymore, however
patches are still welcome.

If your reported issue is still valid for gio/gvfs, please feel free to
file a bug report against glib/gio or gvfs.

@Bugzilla mail recipients: query for gnome-vfs-mass-close to get rid of
these notification emails all together.

[Bug 67385] Re: Opening a file in gedit on a gnome-vfs share fails

2007-10-16 Thread Rouben
Well, I have Gutsy Release Candidate, and I was just able to open a text
document on a gnome-vfs SAMBA share, so I guess it's been fixed in
Gutsy. The only issue is that gedit prompted me to allow it to access my
keyring in order to connect to the SAMBA share (my GNOME keyring
contains my credentials to access the SAMBA share). Perhaps that was the
issue the whole time?

[Bug 49594] Re: Ubuntu 6.06 (amd64), users can't login after restart.

2007-01-28 Thread Rouben
It would seem like a quick workaround for this would be to have some
sort of sanity check script that kills hanging process(es) left over
after a crash. At the very least bonobo-activation-server, since killing
it seems to resolve the issue.

** Changed in: Ubuntu
Sourcepackagename: None = gnome-session
Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs

** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu 6.06 (amd64), users can't login after restart.
+ Users can't login after session crash

** Description changed:

- After the first sucessfull login, if restart the computer then you can't
- login anymore, your login name/password are accepted (by gdm) but when
- gnome must load the graphical interface stops and don't load gnome. I
- can login in a tty or by ssh. I can restart X (ctrl-alt-backspace) but i
- get the same problem (the system accepts the login/passwd but no desktop
- appears). I've restarted many times but all the users that have logged
- in at least 1 time can't start the graphical session anymore.
+ After the first sucessfull login, X is restarted using
+ Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or due to a crash, then logins don't work anymore.
+ The login name/password are accepted by gdm but gnome hangs on load
+ after the login. This does not affect TTY or SSH logins. Restarting X
+ again with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, but the issue persists. All the users
+ that have logged in at least once can't start the graphical session
+ anymore.

  I inspected many log's (/var/log/messages /var/log/syslog) but i can't
  find something that explains this.

[Bug 79474] Re: [Edgy] Can't open audio files with rhythmbox

2007-01-16 Thread Rouben
Thanks for your response! I trust the non-free codecs packages have
been installed? In case you didn't know, due to copyright and patent
reasons, Ubuntu can't ship with any non-open multimedia codecs (software
you need to play media files). As such, you need extra packaged to be
able to playback patented formats like MP3. In this case, I suggest
Automatix ( http://www.getautomatix.com/ ) to install the necessary
decoders and a whole lot more.

In case you already have the codecs installed (doesn't have to be
through Automatix; it can be done manually), please let everyone know,
so that we can think of some other way to help you.

Good luck! :)

[Bug 79474] Re: [Edgy] Can't open audio files with rhythmbox

2007-01-15 Thread Rouben
Your bug lacks information we would need to investigate further. For
example, what type of file are you trying to open (is it an MP3, WAV,
OGG, AVI, MPG)?

Are the files you're trying to open on a local disk, or are they on a
network share (for example on a Windows share, i.e. smb://...).

[Bug 77460] Re: Translate This Application in Firefox mistaken for translating the Web page

2007-01-15 Thread Rouben
Bubba, thanks very, very much for your comment! I think what you're
saying here is very important and it illustrated misleading user-
interface design.

Of course to me, Translate this Application means that I would be
asked to help translate Firefox into another language. To someone else
it may mean translate the webpage I am on to another language, which
is a valid assumption.

I really think this is important, but a bug tracker isn't the best place
for this sort of discussion. I strongly recommend and encourage you to
raise this issue on the Ubuntu forums:

[Bug 40701] Re: creating a folder to computer not permitted but folder listed anyway

2006-10-31 Thread Rouben
Just a note that I was able to confirm this bug on Ubuntu Edgy (6.10)
with the most current updates installed as of today (2006-10-31).

Also note that the folder is not being actually created, because when
you navigate away from the My Computer screen, or refresh the view,
the untitled folder icon goes away. This seems to indicate that
nautilus uses a potentially flawed algorithm when creating
files/folders:

1. Draw icon and caption underneath the icon.
2. Read object associated with icon and determine the right icon to display (it
fails here, since the folder doesn't actually exist, and therefore displays the
generic sheet of paper icon).

At the very least there should be a step zero here that checks for a
successful completion of the requested action (create folder/file) and
only if the action was successful, should the system draw the icon and
its caption.

A less efficient (depending on design) way to solve this problem would
be to introduce a doublecheck for the existence of the item for which
the icon is being drawn, or rather attempt creating the object (the
actual file/folder), then cause the target window to recheck the
contents of that folder (I don't think a full reload is necessary for
that).

Does this apply to Totem as well? I noticed that Totem has problems
opening files on SMB gnomevfs mounts. Perhaps this has something to do
with file locking (or something like that) which gnomevfs doesn't
implement properly?
