[Bug 192172] Re: Notification area tray icons take a long time to load.
I have been using Hardy Alpha 6 and have not (as yet) updated to the full 8.04 release, which may be aggravating matters. However, I have not changed anything out of the ordinary, nor altered the startup sequence or programs called. The only things other than the default install that are enabled on this machine are: NVidia Closed Source drivers, Compiz Fusion GIT Master. I understand that this is not helpful in the slightest; I'm not exactly sure what would be useful for getting this bug fixed- are there any files or logs that would help you (I'm more than willing to get them, but I have no idea as to which ones would be useful for you)? -- Notification area tray icons take a long time to load. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192172 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 203666] [NEW] Thumbnails for high-resolution images are generated each time folders are opened.
Public bug reported: In Hardy Heron (8.04) alpha; If high resolution images are viewed with thumbnails, and the zoom increased from 100%, the thumbnails are generated for those images, as expected. However, these thumbnails are NOT cached and navigation to that folder causes them to be regenerated each time. As you might imagine, this causes the system load to increase whenever those folders are opened, especially if there are a great deal of pictures in those folders. This seems to be a problem with all image types. (I do not know about .CR2 or RAW files, as I do not have a plugin for viewing them) [Originally noted on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4522191#post4522191 ; Upon hearing this and testing it, I have filed this bug report ] ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Thumbnails for high-resolution images are generated each time folders are opened. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203666 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gthumb in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have tried the method that you stated; It was not .gconf that was causing the problem, it would seem. I removed .gconf and booted to find the same problem. I then removed .gnome2 from the home directory to user the standard config for those files; the issue was rectified. [Bug 192172] [NEW] Notification area tray icons take a long time to load.
Public bug reported: (This occurs on Hardy Heron for me, although I have spoken to other users who experience it on Gutsy Gibbon) After logging in from the GDM screen, the icons in the Notification area tray do not load in a reasonably time (~5-10 minutes at times). This is especially important for programs such as Compiz's fusion-icon, as without it, no window manager can be started and unless one is started from a terminal using Application-Accessories-Terminal and starting either Compiz or Metacity in this way, can you use the computer at all. This problem may be attributed to the use of Wireless drivers, as all the cases I know of (and on my laptop, using the proprietary Intel drivers) occur on installations with wireless internet access. Is it possible that the system waits for some call or response from the internet that it cannot receive as the nm-applet has not been loaded, and hence hangs for an undetermined amount of time...? (If required I can post any information necessary; at the moment I don't know what would be most helpful in resolving this problem :) ) ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Notification area tray icons take a long time to load. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192172 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 187858] Re: Notification Area intermittent right click error- Panel's menu displayed instead of the application's in Area.
This issue is relatively new; It did not occur when I first installed Gutsy on both the laptop and the desktop, using Nvidia and ATI cards respectively, so I'm fairly certain it's not a graphics problem per-se. The bug occurs from boot, no other steps are necessary to get the problem. *.xsession-errors included with post* When the problem occurs, I cannot un-tray any of the programs that are running on it. Left mouse button goes to handle to allow the entire tray to be moved, and Right mouse button just displays the menu for the applet not for each individual application running in the notification area, even when the mouse cursor is fully on the icon (so it does not select the blank space that surrounds the icons. I'm fairly certain it must be something that has altered itself on my configuration; it used to be intermittent but now it appears to be occurring on every boot. ** Attachment added: .xsession-errors file obtained when issue occurs. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11745456/.xsession-errors -- Notification Area intermittent right click error- Panel's menu displayed instead of the application's in Area. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187858 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 187858] [NEW] Notification Area intermittent right click error- Panel's menu displayed instead of the application's in Area.
Public bug reported: (Occurs on Ubuntu Gutsy and Hardy Heron Alpha) Intermittently, the gnome-panel applet for Notification Area will not display any of the menus of the applications that are in the notification area upon right clicking. Instead, the applet's menu is display (the same that is displayed when the blank space around icons is right clicked). This behaviour is not constant, and there appears to be no relation as to why it happens. As stated above, this also occurs on Hardy Heron Alpha. This is not a critical problem, but is incredibly irritating when I wish to access Pidgin or Fusion-Icon's menu system, and requires that the applet to be removed to access these applications again (as the tray catches the minimised state). This issue does not occur on every boot, however there is no way to tell if the session that is being used will be affected- I have only seen this occur when using a default session. If any files are required I will upload them. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Notification Area intermittent right click error- Panel's menu displayed instead of the application's in Area. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187858 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 187862] [NEW] Taskbar does not allow for selection of minimised windows- only the far left one may be selected from it.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel This may be related to Bug #187858. In the gnome-panel taskbar, the open windows may not be selected using the mouse as expected. The far left window (but only this one) may be selected. Additionally, the only window in the taskbar that responds as expected to hovering- the window bar appears depressed and when the mouse hover is taken off, the effect is remove- is the far left. About 5/6 of the distance across the far left window the hover behaviour ends; this may be indicative of something getting in the way of the mouse capture (?). If the mouse is hovered over on the far left window, additional windows can be selected by scrolling with the mouse wheel in the usual fashion. All active windows behave expected ways, apart from the selection bug. Additionally, all other windows can be selected using Ring Switcher, Alt-tab, Shift-Switcher, etc in Compiz-fusion or Metacity. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Taskbar does not allow for selection of minimised windows- only the far left one may be selected from it. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187862 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 163578] Workspace switcher causes all windows and icons to disappear on all desks
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Workspace switcher only shows 4 desks, even if the number is increased in preferences. Compiz still picks up on the changes and alters the change in the number of desktops (using cube plugin). However, if the workspace switcher is used to change desktop, all icons and windows completely disappear from the desktop, leaving only the background image displayed. Additionally, switching to an alternate viewport using the cube plugin erases all the current windows from the viewswitcher (when in another viewport) and any further windows opened are displayed as being on desk 1. On switching back to desk 1, the windows from desk 2 disappear and the original ones for desk 1 are redisplayed. I am not entirely sure if this is just a compiz problem or something more fundamental.
