[Bug 290204] Re: Annoying beep on shutdown using System - Shut down...

2009-11-04 Thread Vytas
It is not a fix, but launchpad has no status 'worked around'.
Yes, it's a shame that such trivial thing stayed for a year or so and after
that we only got a workaround which most users were applying anyway. So there
is a lack of workforce in Ubuntu and open source in general, but YOU can help.
Roll up your sleeves and start working!

[Bug 324470] [NEW] Automounting a certain CD fails

2009-02-02 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

When I insert a certain CD, it fails to automount, throwing out an error box:
Unable to mount NerdKits
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
the network connection was broken.

However just doing `sudo mount /dev/cdrom' works.

Another CDs that I have at hand work fine though.

[Bug 290204] Re: Annoying beep on shutdown using System - Shut down...

2008-11-11 Thread Vytas
This is somewhat important, because on some systems (including my Dell
laptop, for instance) it's really loud.

Sure it is easy to workaround by blacklisting pcspkr module, but I guess
it's not what 'ordinary user' is expected to do.

[Bug 236402] [NEW] Unable to switch LCD panel on after it has been switched off

[Bug 210694] [NEW] [hardy] GDM is very slow to appear

2008-04-02 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

After updates of yesterday, GDM is very slow to appear.
System: up to date hardy i386

The empty screen appears with a busy cursor, and actual login information
appears after 90 second or so.
You can see this behaviour of doing nothing for a minute in straces (please
note it took me some time to attach to gdm, so the actual delay is even bigger
than depicted in the logs).

GDM spawns secondary pids, I attach logs of both.

2008-03-11 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

Every time I try seeking in a song, rhythmbox hangs.

problems.

As suggested in Hardy, I use pulseaudio. However, bug is reproducible
when using ALSA directly as well.

[Bug 191497] Re: Gnome panel clock calendar is slow to appear

2008-02-22 Thread Vytas
Yes, I have Google calendar configured as read-only Web calendar
(because Evolution's Google calendar is still slightly buggy, maybe I
need to fill another bug on that... ).

I don't know what was causing the issue, but now it seems to be much
better. Calendar appears in like 0.5 sec. It is still not instant, but
to be honest it never was since the calendar support was integrated a
few GNOME releases ago. Also, it displays appointments properly now.

So if we just want parity with previous GNOME release, we can mark this
fixed.

However, I see no reason for those 0.5 sec -- it is an applet that is
loaded to memory anyway, shouldn't it appear instantly, just
showing/hiding its widget?

The GNOME bug reported at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515948 is
another issue, it is that calendar never appears and panel freezes forever. I
had reproduced this once too though with earlier releases in Hardy. Anyway, I
think it should be filed as a different issue. My bug report was that calendar
is functioning, just takes very long time to appear (was 3 sec and more).

[Bug 192926] [NEW] gThumb doesn't import photos (Hardy)

2008-02-18 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

As described in the title.

I plug in camera, and report fails with some cryptic error dialog. When
I click OK in that dialog, program hangs.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gthumb --import-photos

[Bug 192926] Re: gThumb doesn't import photos (Hardy)

2008-02-18 Thread Vytas
Btw, this camera was working fine with earlier versions of gThumb.
Also, it works with F-Spot import, so it is not an issue with the library
(libgphoto2 or however it is called)

[Bug 187969] Re: Cannot select default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-02-15 Thread Vytas
Default only has sense when you have checked separate layout for each window.
It is the default layout for newly appearing windows. If you have global layout
(like I see you do), you start your session with the language first in the list
(USA in your case), that's it.
Maybe it's a minor issue that you cannot move layouts up/down add/just remove
them, but for me this bug seems fixed as such

[Bug 191497] [NEW] Gnome panel clock calendar is slow to appear

2008-02-13 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

The new gnome panel clock displays calendar and selected cities on

appears in like 2-3 seconds, although my machine is far from slow (Core

[Bug 189741] Re: nautilus fails to thumbnail unless explicitly opening images

2008-02-06 Thread Vytas
For me image thumbnailing seems to work (not sure if always), but PDF
thumbnailing always fails, evince-thumbnailer process just spawns and does
nothing, using 0% of CPU.
When I kill evince-thumbnailer, rest of thumbnailing is done, be it images or
movies.

However I noticed nautilus has thumbnailed 16MiB image, though in the
options I have limit of 5 MiB.

[Bug 42629] Re: EOG crashes on SVG images created with OpenOffice.org Draw

2007-10-07 Thread Vytas
Obsidience,
it is not a memory leak as such; see my comments in the description, or
comments in the gnome-bugzilla. Your example is just another illustration of
the bug.

librsvg (the library that draws svg image) can render it to any size,
because it's vector graphics. EOG currently tries the pixel size that is
provided in SVG description. In your example, it is 18k x 18k px. So,
EOG asks please render me this SVG to a 18kx18k 32bit RBG image, that
is a 1.207 GiB bitmap. So librsvg did, and EOG displayed the result on
your screen.

See the comments in gnome bugzilla for current situation and possible
solutions.

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-04 Thread Vytas
Ubuntu may face a bad review on osnews ;D

OK, now seriously.
As I've wrote, I tried looking into this myself. This is FAR from trivial.
Nautilus source isn't the cleanest code on earth, especially that DnD part.
There exists and old patch to add XdndDirectSave to nautilus, but it's just too
old, and doesn't work at all (not sure if it ever did). So I am not surprised
no one managed to fix this in the last GNOME release cycle, Sure Canonical
could hire a developer to fix this problem, but their resources are limited too
I guess.

So, in short, this is the case where UBUNTU/GNOME NEEDS YOUR HELP!

What I don't like about Ubuntu developers though, this bug is marked as
'Medium' importance. This is ridiculous. It actually is critical, I can imagine
people trying to drag-n-drop files from archive and shouting WTF?!

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-04-07 Thread Vytas
This is an old bug, that file-roller must be fast enough to unarchive
files while user is performing drag-and-drop, or the operation
(partially) fails. This bug is annoying, but not so severe.

The new problem is that drag-and-drop is completely broken, we should
try to fix that before feisty is released IMHO

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-04-07 Thread Vytas
Well, as I can see the problem is that bug with file roller was fixed
upstream in 2.18, it switched to 'XdndDirectSave0' target instead of
'text/uri-list'. Nautilus does not support this yet, so it doesn't work
with nautilus.

What should we do here?
1) implement this feature in nautilus and patch it
2) add older protocol to file-roller
3) just revert file roller to use older protocol (easiest, just pasting some
code from 2.16)
4) do nothing and have broken DnD in feisty file-roller+nautilus

[Bug 83398] Re: Totem crashes after video finishes on full screen

2007-02-25 Thread Vytas
Hard to produce a meaningful backtrace here, but yes, bug is easily
reproducible.

This is what i get when debugging a bit:

(totem:13434): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type
`(null)' in cast to `GstBuffer'

(totem:13434): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `(null)'
in cast to `GstXvImageBuffer'
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 67 error_code 8 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Strangely when I used --sync as advised I couldn't reproduce it, but
might be just a coincidence.

Generally the bug is often observed, most probably easier spotted with
small videos and Repeat mode on, changing videos seems very unreliable

[Bug 70223] Re: Internal data flow error.

2006-12-05 Thread Vytas
Well, not so simply you need a fast, but not too fast triple-click on
Play button ;)

Better post comments on the gnome-bugs if you can, because it is an
upstream bug.

[Bug 71981] Evolution fails to start occasionaly

2006-11-15 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Sometimes evolution just fails to start (~20% cases).

I get the following error message:

Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 610: _dl_open: Assertion
`_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)-r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!

It is hard to debug this for me, since in this case i get

/build/buildd/gdb-6.4.90.dfsg/gdb/linux-nat.c:545: internal-error: wait
returned unexpected status 0x7f00
A problem internal to GDB has been detected,
further debugging may prove unreliable.

and gdb refuses to provide backtrace.

I am using Ubuntu 6.10, and never have experienced with previous
evolution versions.

[Bug 44689] Re: Crash when switching images rapidly in collection pane

2006-05-29 Thread Vytas
As of eog-2.14.1-0ubuntu2, unfortunately yes :(

Contrary to the first impression, the easiest way to reproduce this is a
directory with only 2-3 small images. Just scroll the mouse wheel fast
and thats it.

[Bug 43692] Re: Login screen briefly reveals the user's password

2006-05-14 Thread Vytas
I think cpbl is right. I sometimes see usernames flicker for a while
too. I couldnt imagine how GDM could know the passwords? Left in the
history? Special exploit to decode from hashes using dictionary
attacks?:D none of the above is feasible

However, strange things happen sometimes. Diego, if you have some spare
time, could you change your password to something easy to see, but
completely different from your username, eg 9 or A*A*A*A*A. I
have a second machine, Pentium II with Ubuntu Breezy (AFAIK this bug was
reported for 5.10), and I cannot reproduce that.

Test and report back the results.

[Bug 42629] EOG crashes on SVG images created with OpenOffice.org Draw

2006-05-02 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

Affects: eog (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
EOG crashes on SVG images created with OpenOffice.org Draw. As I
understand, the problem is that OpenOffice.org SVG export plugin uses
plain huge integer dimensions, not centimeters, inches or something
relavant. EOG just fails to allocate memory for an über-sized image
then.

I guess that from the following output:
GLib-ERROR **: gmem.c:154: failed to allocate 2412898400 bytes
aborting...

Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted.
[Switching to Thread -1239532624 (LWP 11914)]
0xe410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
(gdb)

Personally Im not sure which side requires fixing, maybe both. OpeOffice should
export in sane dimensions, and EOG should automatically reduce images or do
something but not crash.

Both Firefox and Inkscape load the image correctly.

[Bug 41707] Goom visualization is unusable at 'Normal' size and higher

2006-04-27 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

Affects: gst-plugins-good0.10 (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Goom visualization works as expected as 'Small' size. But if I increase
it to 'Normal', 'Large' or 'Extra Large', totem sucks up 1 CPU to 100%
(I use P4 HT), and the sound output becomes choppy or no output at all.
Visualization is invisible too.

However, sometimes it is possible to restore it to working normally by
dragging the possition slider, pausing/unpausing etc. Then CPU usage
drops back to ~10% on 'Normal' size, ~25% on Large size (average from
both virtual processors). So CPU it is capable of doing those Gooms at
realtime, the problems lie somewhere else.

Im not sure, but IIRC it is a regression from Flight5-6 where it worked
fine.

I attach the part of GST_DEBUG=3 totem output.

[Bug 41037] GtkIconView is sometimes slightly corrupted

2006-04-24 Thread Vytas
Public bug reported:

   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When I move mouse over icons in the Add to Panel dialog, the text is
slightly corrupted. When I move mouse out it sometimes restores to
normal, sometimes it doesnt.

In addition, similar problem is reproducable with MonoDevelop's New
