[Bug 275010] Re: Unable to disable the ssh module of gnome-keyring
I, also, am running Max's workaround. The odd thing is that even if you do what he suggests in gnome-session-properties, you'll still see the Gnome keyring wrapper daemon running on the machine. However, it will stop messing with ssh keys, and the standard ssh-agent commands will then work to let you manipulate keys in the usual way because ssh-agent is running. The GUI lead me to believe I was turning off the Gnome keyring wrapper daemon, but apparently that isn't what it really does. So much for truth in advertising. Max, good question. Right now, on the computer in question, I see only the daemon. Not the wrapper. What I saw back in mid-November (when I first tried your workaround) I can't say. I probably had only the daemon itself running at that time as well, but who knows. 8.10 hasn't been nearly stable enough for me to avoid reboots in the interim. At least 2 kernel updates and 3 or 4 issues of a black screen in X (when coming back after the screen saver has been invoked) that won't go away and require a reboot, etc. I wish my Ubuntu experience had been a smooth one, but it's been really rocky. I've got other issues as well that I won't bother to detail here. Anyway, to answer you, it appears the keyring is running, which is apparently the right thing, so disregard my comment. -- Unable to disable the ssh module of gnome-keyring https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275010 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 275010] Re: Unable to disable the ssh module of gnome-keyring
I have a related question. In Ubuntu 8.04, Max's workaround doesn't work. (My initial problem was with 8.10, I know.) Max said: 1. Add the line unset SSH_AUTH_SOCK to ~/.xsessionrc (creating it if it doesn't exist). 2. Run gnome-session-properties and untick GNOME Keyring Daemon Wrapper. But in 8.04, there is no GNOME Keyring Daemon Wrapper choice in gnome- session-properties. What I want to do is get gnome-keyring-daemon out of the loop entirely. Don't ask for my ssh passphrase in a dialog window, just let it be entered on the command line. I'll use ssh-add -D when I'm done to get things out of memory. Is there some way to get gnome-keyring to stop acting as an ssh-agent (or whatever it's doing) in 8.04 and instead just let the real ssh-agent do it's thing? Still seeing this in Gutsy Gibbon, clean install. Steps to reproduce: 1. On desktop, Right-Click - Create Folder. 2. Drag untitled folder to the GNOME panel. 3. Drag the folder across the GNOME panel. 4. Click the icon. Results: Icon changes to a spring with a platform on top. Clicking it pops up a dialog: Error Could not launch application Not a launchable item Right-click - Properties brings up the Launcher Properties dialog, which says: Type: Application Name: Command: Comment: (all the fields except Type are blank). Hi Pedro, no i do not get errors. What i want to do is tell the program to make exactly 35 copies or exactly 175 copies. On most programs you can select the # of copies to make before selecting to burn the disc or image. On my Mac I use Toast which allows me to do this. It is very useful especially when making many copies of say 12 different original discs. Reverting to gnome-system-tools 2.30.0-0ubuntu2 (from Lucid) does make a difference. I also needed to install liboobs-1-4 2.30.0-0ubuntu1. It eventually works, but outputs this warning: (users-admin:3551): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error communicating asynchronously with the backends: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. [Bug 643153] Re: maverick - 'user settings' hangs being root
Milan, I was talking about running gksu users-admin rather than logging into a session as root. It is not obvious why that use-case would not be supported. At least one other user is seeing the same: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1585421 In addition, when I run users-admin with a normal user account, nothing happens when I click on the Add, Delete, and Advanced Settings buttons. What I mean is that it is the *primary* normal user account that I created during installation. This seems like a clear regression from Lucid, and I would like some help debugging it. ** Changed in: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- maverick - 'user settings' hangs being root https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/643153 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 668901] [NEW] users-admin cannot get authorized from policy kit in VNC session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools This problem appears to be new in Maverick. Steps: 1. Run users-admin from within a VNC session using my primary user account that is in the admin group. 2. Click on any button that requires authorization by policykit, such as Add, Delete, or Advanced Settings. 3. Nothing happens, even after waiting for several minutes. No authentication window or error window ever shows up. I have tried a number of the debugging steps listed in other bugs, and I have tried the workaround listed in 221363. The patch provided for Karmic or newer is out of date, but I tried a few different variants of it and none seemed to do any good. I would be happy to help debug this problem, so at least we can find a new workaround for Maverick. [Bug 668901] Re: users-admin cannot get authorized from policy kit in VNC session
I installed Maverick desktop edition in a VM using the ISO image. After installation, I installed only vnc4server and ssh. I logged in remotely and started the VNC session. I confirmed that users-admin does not get an authorization from policy kit. No window appears that says that it cannot get authorization. (I think that is a regression from Lucid, by itself.) Then, I edited the /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends.policy file manually, as you described. Rather than try to figure out what tools needed to be restarted, I rebooted after each change to this file. This is very fast in a VM on my box, so I figured it would be good to eliminate all variables. In this first edit, I only changed allow_active to allow_any in both sections of the file and deleted the allow_inactive lines. After doing so, I was able to get authorized in users-admin running in the VNC session. I was not able to get authorized in users- admin running in a local GDM session however. Next, I edited the policy file manually again, adding back the original allow_active lines. Again, I rebooted. At this point, I was able to get authorized in users-admin in both the VNC session and the local GDM session. Great news! Finally, I upgraded to the latest packages with apt-get update apt- get upgrade. I changed nothing in /etc/apt, either manually or using the Software Sources GUI. After all of the packages had been downloaded and installed, I rebooted again. In this final state, I can no longer get authorization in users-admin running in the VNC session. It still works in the local GDM session however. The policy file has not been modified or overwritten by the upgrade process. -- users-admin cannot get authorized from policy kit in VNC session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668901 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 668901] Re: users-admin cannot get authorized from policy kit in VNC session
Please look again at the process listing in #10. It is running, and I checked that it is in fact a child of gnome-session. The only gnome- session running on this machine is the one started by VNC. So, why is policy kit unable to find this authentication agent? This is the same issue that I keep seeing. [Bug 672733] [NEW] Automatic Mark as Read fails if the first message presented on folder opening is new.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution This may be a bit difficult to explain... In Evolution, I currently have it configured to mark a new message as read 0.5 seconds after I open the message. So, for example, I open my inbox folder and there are 50 messages total and 5 marked Unread. I click on one of the 5 Unread messages and open it. Evolution then marks that message as read about 0.5 seconds after I open the message and start reading it. When I open a folder, evolution opens up a message automatically. IN some cases, this is the last message read, in some cases, it's the first unread message. The bug exists when the second case is met. When I open a folder and evolution automatically opens an Unread message, that unread message is NOT automatically marked read. Instead, I have to open a different message and then return to that message to have it marked Read. This becomes an even bigger issue when I open a folder that contains exactly ONE message. if I purge the contents of a folder, then get a new message in that folder, I have to use contextual menus to mark the message read, as there is NO way to have it handled by evolution in a automatic method. For example, please look at the screenshot I have attached. You'll see my folder for mail from the Laptop Testing Team mailing list at ubuntu.com. I recently purged that folder of all old messages. Then I recieved a new message from that list which was filtered into the folder for Laptop Testing Team. When I open that folder, the message is opened, however, it is NOT marked as read. Since there is nothing else in that folder, I can't use the workaround of clicking on a different message then clicking back on that message. Thus, the only way to mark the folder as read is to now use context menus on the folder itself. As noted above, this is the screen shot showing what I was trying to describe. ** Attachment added: evolution-auto-mark-as-read-fail.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/672733/+attachment/1727200/+files/evolution-auto-mark-as-read-fail.png -- Automatic Mark as Read fails if the first message presented on folder opening is new. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672733 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 672733] Re: Automatic Mark as Read fails if the first message presented on folder opening is new.
Update: Head smack... I forgot that I could mark a message read by clicking on the icon in the messages list. Be that as it may, the automatic marking is broken in the instances mentioned above, though there are ways to work around it. -- Automatic Mark as Read fails if the first message presented on folder opening is new. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672733 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 675731] [NEW] Evolution crashes (but leaves no core dump and does not trigger apport) randomly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Another bit of Evolution fun... I've noticed that since upgrading to 10.10, Evolution crashes randomly. Some times it's opening a folder, sometimes when clicking on Send on a new message, sometimes when marking a message as read. In the latter example, I saw today, Evolution would crash EVERY time I clicked the Read/Unread icon next to a message in one of my folders. I finally thought I'd try running strace and seeing if I could capture the system calls made at the time of the crash, however, when run through systrace, the crash did NOT occur, even though without strace, the crash occurred 5 out of 5 times when attempting to mark that message unread. So at a first guess, I am thinking that maybe there's some sort of race condition going on that strace is mitigating. I also attempted this before when evolution kept crashing while clicking Send on new messages (still does this too) and so I ran evolution for several hours through strace and never managed to get a crash. I DID, however, end up with a 40GB log file from strace :( I will look at running evolution through valgrind too and see if I can catch anything, but I'm not hopeful that this will be any different than when running via strace.
