2011-11-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The folder icons do not stay on the desktop. They revert back to script
icons. This is also for folders within folders and document, files.
Also when changing between desktops there seems to be an issue, where
the system will freeze and not be able to change over.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 888307] Re: Bundled Firefox extensions disabled on upgrade to 8.0

2011-11-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package firefox - 9.0~b1+build1-0ubuntu1

---
firefox (9.0~b1+build1-0ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low

  * New upstream release from the beta channel (FIREFOX_9_0b1_BUILD1)

  * Update globalmenu-extension to 2.0.2
  * Install the Apport hook as a source package hook
- rename debian/apport/firefox.py.in = debian/apport/source_firefox.py.in
- update debian/firefox.install.in
- update debian/rules
  * Don't unconditionally overwrite SourcePackage when reporting bugs with
the nightly apport hook
- update debian/apport/source_firefox.py.in
  * Set Channel = Unavailable if channel-prefs.js doesn't contain a
channel name
- update debian/apport/source_firefox.py.in
  * Ensure that create-tarball can handle there not being a locale blacklist
- update debian/build/create-tarball.py
  * Drop xpt.py and xpidl from $LIBDIR. xpidl is gone, and xpt.py isn't included
there in the upstream SDK
- update debian/firefox-dev.links.in
  * Refresh patches
- update debian/patches/firefox-kde.patch
- update debian/patches/mozilla-kde.patch
  * Drop patches fixed upstream
- remove
debian/patches/only-add-ENABLE_JIT-to-CXXFLAGS-if-jit-is-enabled.patch
- update debian/patches/series
  * Turn off the one-time addon selection dialog (LP: #888307)
- update debian/vendor.js
  * Ensure we include locales in the tarball if they are in shipped-locales
but not in all-locales
- update debian/build/create-tarball.py

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 881750] Re: ubuntu 11.10 unity hibernate when battery full

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
ubuntu 11.10 unity hibernate when battery full

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
in Ubuntu 10.04 gnome had a bug that was worked around but cannot be done in
Unity in 11.10
  IN GNOME:
Whenever I unplug my laptop from AC power, I get a window popping up that
says Laptop battery critically low. Computer will hibernate very soon unless
it is plugged in. And a little notification pops up that says that the laptop
has 5 minutes until the power drains.

But when I click on the battery icon, it says that I have 4 hours of
battery time remaining. My battery is a six cell battery with 97.1%
charge capacity. I have no idea why it's saying that it's almost out
of power. That doesn't come up if I turn on my laptop after I unplug
  it.

Does anyone know why it's coming up or how I can disable it?

  WORKAROUND:

If you open up a terminal and run gconf-editor, go to apps, navigate
to gnome-power-manager, click on general, and then uncheck
use_time_for_policy, it will fix the warning messages. Some people
(myself included) were also having trouble with it automatically
hibernating/suspending when unplugged, and this fixes that issue also.

IN UNITY THERE IS NO GNOME-POWER-MANAGEMENT SO HOW DO WE STOP THIS?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 875383] Re: a bar that says the disc is sick, And Also Another mistake That I can not watch movies, my computer restarts

2011-11-15 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Title:
Clicking on icons in Nautilus changes focus

Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts:
  New
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Button-click on icon(in some window manager) brings focus to window contains
that item, obstacles drag-n-drop:
  Reproduction steps:
  1. Open some Multi-media player, ex. totem.
  2. Open some directory contains multi-media files in Nautilus
  3. Maximize Nautilus
  3. resize totem to quarter of your screen, position it to top-right corner.
  4. Make sure Totem is above nautilus, and totem doesn't cover your
multi-media files.
  5. Try to Drag-n-Drop some file from Nautilus to Totem.
  6. You'll notice that:
On Click, Nautilus gets focus and totem loses it, thus obstacles drag-n-drop.

  Suggested Fix:
   1. Window manager should get focus if user clicked on area of the window,
except for items(icons).
   2. Button_Clicking on icons in window manager, should not change focus state.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 440831] Re: RAID creation fails due to absent package mdadm

2011-11-15 Thread Brian Murray
Jason this bug is about gnome-disk-utility, a GUI application for
managing disks, not have having a dependency on mdadm so that one can
create RAID arrays. The alternate installer doesn't have a GUI and
doesn't include gnome-disk-utility so I'm fairly certain this isn't your
bug. The alternate installer is provided by the package debian-
installer and it would be more appropriate for you to file about about

Title:
RAID creation fails due to absent package mdadm

Status in “gnome-disk-utility” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I can't create a RAID0 Array because the package mdadm is not
  installed.

This is the error that I get:
Error starting job: Failed to execute child process mdadm (No such file or
directory)

There is no hint, what I should do then, this is not so good for the average
user.
Maybe PackageKit support could be a good solution. There could be an dialog
that could help the user to install mdadm.

Another problem is that during the installation of mdamd, postfix was
also installed which asks question that the average user can't
  understand.

The last problem is that I had no permission to write something on may array
that I had finally created.
The only user that had access was root. I was able to change the permission,
but I don't know if everybody is able to do so.

I hope this information is helpful.

  Regards
  Achim

This occurs when you have two overlapping windows and want to drag
some item from the behind window to the one in front. The focus
changes to the behind window and brings it to the front as soon as the

window, most often (at least in my use case) blocking the area where
you want to drop your item. It's hard to bring the drop window to
the front again, without releasing the mouse key. The whole drag and
drop would be easier, when the windows focus does not change until the
release of the mouse button, when clicking on a dragable item. In
  Windows it works like this.

Bug description:
Desktop Ubuntu 11.10Nautilus 3.2.1 and Server running Lucid
When copying files between folders I normally open the source and target
directories in separate windows and then simply drag and drop one or more
files. On dropping files onto the server the 'File Operations' progress
window opens behind the two folder windows and therefore is not immediately
visible. This initially led me to think nothing was happening until I poked
around. I have searched here for Nautilus related bugs and could not find a
similar report. The Lucid server is running NFS ,

Note when copying from Server to Desktop the window appears on top as
  expected!

Not sure what apps to report versions on for Server or Desktop but
both are recent relatively clean installs.

sake of it being seen (I didn't see this bug posted yet).

I just installed the new Ubuntu 10.04 yesterday when it came out, and
today I went to use my laptop in the other room so I unplugged it, and
as soon as I did a message popped up saying the battery is critically
low with 4 minutes left on it, but it also says it's at 100%. I know
this isn't a problem with my battery itself because I also have
Windows 7 on this laptop and it runs for 2 hours just fine on the
battery. I haven't used Ubuntu on the battery yet to see if it
actually has only 4 minutes on it or if it's just an error in
  notifying me.

At any rate, I think it needs to be looked at and hopefully fixed.

Bug description:
Everything (including all other programs, dock, GUI) hangs after I
tried to install something via Ubuntu Software center., only my mouse

solution now is to hold the power button for rebooting.

OK, you make a good point. The GNOME developers should consider adding
useful functionality that once worked well and was taken away for no
apparent good reason.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 890523] Re: Nautilus File Operations Window 'hides' behind folder windows on start

2011-11-15 Thread Peter Errity
This behaviour is not evident today - i.e. the copy window is appearing
on top as would normally be expected so may not be easy to replicate.

Incidentally the 'File Operations' copy window is not visible using
alt+tab (this behaviour is persistent) - not sure if it should be
included here or entered as a separate bug?

I will continue to try and replicate the original 'hiding' behaviour
- if there are logs worth keeping/submitting please let me know..

Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts:

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:

Here is the output of acpid -d when I close the lid:

Here is the output of acpi_listen when I close/open the lid:

  button/lid LID0 0080 000a

Here is what /proc/acpi says with the lid open and closed:
  gpothier@tadzim:~$ cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state

  gpothier@tadzim:~$ cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state

Suspending in itself works fine with the laptop's suspend button.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gvfs

When I plug in my Sansa e250 audio device it does not auto-mount.
After unplugging and plugging it in multiple times I got a crash
report from gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor, after which the auto-mount
worked. I haven't been able to reproduce this crash since. Now I am
consistently able to get the device to auto-mount by doing killall
gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor before plugging it in, but nothing at all
happens when I plug it in with gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor running.

Auto mount was working in Hardy, was not working in Intrepid, and now
  is not working in Jaunty.

What I expected to happen: Sansa player auto-mounts as USB mass storage
device when plugged in.
What happened instead: Nothing happened when I plugged in the audio player.

Title:
gnome-terminal changes cursor color after terminal tab switch

Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Using ANSI escape sequences you can change the cursor color from the
command-line, like so:
  echo ESC]12;rgb:8000/8000/8000^G;
Where 'ESC' and '^G' are the single characters: escape and control-g. After
doing this when you switch tab and back again the cursor color will have
changed to black.

  TEST CASE:
  1. Open a gnome terminal
  2. Open a second tab (CTRL+SHIFT+T)
  3. On the first tab enter the following sequence on the prompt:
   $ echo ESC]12;rgb:8000/8000/8000^G;
  Where:
  ESC = CTRL+V CTRL+ESC
  ESC = CTRL+V CTRL+G
= The cursor color will change to grey
  4. Switch to the second tab then back to the first tab

  Result:
The cursor color changes to black.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 860427] Re: Oneiric displays 'Laptop battery critically low' message after AC is unplugged when 'charged' shown on battery indicator

2011-11-15 Thread Andrew Somerville
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 531190 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531190

It looks like this bug is probably not duplicate of bug #531190. This
issue appears to be specific to 11.10, and the other bug is related to
the LTS, Lucid.

  Version: 3.1.5-0ubuntu6
  Release: 11.10

After fiddling with Num Lock, I noticed that the lock window claimed
it was still enabled, and yet it is not.

  Sequence of events:
  * Turn on Num Lock.
  * Lock the screen. (On a ThinkPad, I do this by pressing Fn+F2. Whatever
option it is that means lock the screen immediately, I have it turned on.)
  * Tap a key to bring up the screen-locked/enter-password dialog.
  * Observe the warning.
  * Turn off Num Lock.
  * Observe the warning is still there.
  * Successfully unlock the screen.
  * Lock the screen again.
  * Observe the warning is still there.
  * [Optional] Unlock the screen. File a bug against gnome-screensaver.

Not related to bug #835649, which concerns showing the warning when
Num Lock is enabled but not otherwise problematic, e.g. when using a
full-size (i.e. has lots of extra keys) keyboard.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 836250] Re: [Oneiric] [Regression] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops

2011-11-15 Thread rkrizan
I upgraded to the latest stable release of the linux kernel, 3.1.1, and
removed the options.conf file and booted into the new kernel. The
problem was still there. I re-added the 11n_disable=1 option in
options.conf and rebooted still using the 3.1.1 kernel. The network
connection speeds were good for a few minutes, thereafter the connection
speeds dropped again. So in the 3.1.1 kernel, even 11n_disable=1 does no
good. At least not for me on either of my laptops.

I reverted back to 3.0.8, with 11n_disable=1, and all is working fine.

This may be either network-manager or kernel, depending on triage...

I have verified this on both a Lenovo X201 and a Lenovo T500 laptop.

Both work perfectly with fully updated 10.10 and 11.04 versions of
  Ubuntu.

However, booting into a fully updated 11.10 (as of 28/08/11) I get
very poor wireless networking performance. Between 6-10% packet loss,
very very slow connection and transfer rate. All in all, practically
  unusable.

I have reported the bug on the X201 laptop, I will add the similar
logs from the T500 also if required.

As soon as I swap back to either 10.10 or 11.04 I get perfect
wireless, it's only on 11.10 that I get problems, this would suggest
it's not hardware or configuration on my side.

I have had this since first installing 11.10 which was a little after
  Alpha 2.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884856] Re: gnome-keyring integration breaks some GPG functions

2011-11-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

   Status: New = Confirmed

Title:
gnome-keyring integration breaks some GPG functions

Status in “gnome-keyring” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In recent Ubuntu releases (not sure how far back, but at least
Oneiric) gnome-keyring offers gpg-agent integration and is enabled by
default. The gpg-agent protocol implementation of gnome-keyring is
very incomplete and hence breaks at least the smartcard functions of
gpg and most functions of gpgsm.

  Steps to reproduce (smartcard):
  1. Acquire a smartcard reader, an OpenPGP smartcard and install pcsc-lite
  2. Start a normal new Ubuntu desktop session
  3. strace gpg --card-status

  Actual results:
  ...
  socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 3
  connect(3, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/keyring-p6oNWL/gpg}, 25) = 0
  ...
  write(3, SCD SERIALNO openpgp, 20)= 20
  write(3, \n, 1) = 1
  read(3, ERR 103 unknown command\n, 1002) = 24
  ...

  The printout on stdout is
  selecting openpgp failed: unknown command
OpenPGP card not available: general error

Expected results: The agent should know the SCD command and act
  accordingly.

  Steps to reproduce(gpgsm):
  1. Migrate from an old installation that includes X.509 certificates and
private keys in gpgsm.
  2. strace gpgsm -K

  Actual results:
  ...
  socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 4
  connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/keyring-p6oNWL/gpg}, 25) = 0
  ...
  write(4, HAVEKEY 62B64B58FF1BD7E0B48FE51A..., 48) = 48
  write(4, \n, 1) = 1
  read(4, ERR 103 unknown command\n, 1002) = 24
  ...

Expected results: The agent should know the HAVEKEY command and act
  accordingly.

Due to the way the gnome-keyring is activated in recent releases no easy
workaround is possible. Removing the GPG_AGENT_INFO environment variable makes
the individual examples work (they will just start their own agent if
necessary), but that's not possible (and certainly not configurable) on a
system level. gnome-keyring-daemon allows in principle to deactivate the faulty
gpg module (there is a command line option --components that accepts a list of
any combination of pkcs11,secrets,ssh,gpg).

But currently the gnome-keyring-daemon is started through the
pam_gnome_keyring.so PAM module which uses a hard-coded command line
  (--daemonize --login).

Steps to resolve this problem: At least a) disable the gpg gnome-keyring
module by default in the PAM module, and/or b) make the command line options
that the module uses user configurable. Or c) extend gnome-keyring with all the
missing functionality (and play a constant game of catch-up), or d) leave
gpg-agent operations to the gpg-agent and try to solve whatever problem the
gnome-keyring gpg-agent emulation was meant to solve in another manner.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 836121] Re: appears to connect to facebook, but can't see anyone who is logged into facebook chat

2011-11-15 Thread John Janney
Actually, it was a Facebook setting. Sorry I didn't update this post
when I found out. Facebook chat as a setting to disable Facebook chat. I
re-enabled it and now it works. It wasn't an issue with Empathy after
all. Thank you for following up.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 860032] Re: Right-click on file in Nautilus should have an Edit option for templates

2011-11-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ken Sharp, this is:
- a clearcut upstream issue. Your welcome to send this to the developers of the
software by following the instructions at
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport
- won't be fixed in LibreOffice Packaging
Resolving as Won't Fix in LibreOffice Packaging. This does not mean the issue
will not be cared about, but if it is cared about (even by Ubuntu/Canonical
contributors), it is done upstream at LibreOffice.

Other libvte-based terminals like xfce4-terminal are not affected.

I traced this to the upload of gtk+3.0 3.2.2-0ubuntu1. After
  downgrading libgtk-3-0, libgail-3-0, libgail-3-common, gir1.2-gtk-3.0,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 847814] Re: the gnome-session dialog suspend option doesn't lock the screen

2011-11-15 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
Under Gnome Shell with the screenlock disabled, this behavior is highly
irritating, because the Gnome session menu follows my settings and does
not lock the screen, but using the power button does lock the screen. I
don't have much of a use case for a screen lock for a machine sitting
safely in my apartment. The screen lock setting should reasonably be
universal (and can still be set with never as the timeout for
inactivity either way.)

I spoke too soon. Apparently, I wasn't really in suspend. It still
does ask me to login a second time.

Screen is locked again after unsuspend and successful authentication

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:

After unsuspending and successful authentication, the screen is locked again
a few seconds later without any possibility to prevent this. This occurs only
if the machine is suspended automatically after a certain inactive time,
however not if it is initiated by the user. The bug occurs reproducible in
Ubuntu 11.10.

Bug description:
  Version: 3.1.5-0ubuntu6
  Release: 11.10

After fiddling with Num Lock, I noticed that the lock window claimed
it was still enabled, and yet it is not.

  Sequence of events:
  * Turn on Num Lock.
  * Lock the screen. (On a ThinkPad, I do this by pressing Fn+F2. Whatever
option it is that means lock the screen immediately, I have it turned on.)
  * Tap a key to bring up the screen-locked/enter-password dialog.
  * Observe the warning.
  * Turn off Num Lock.
  * Observe the warning is still there.
  * Successfully unlock the screen.
  * Lock the screen again.

Add more missing icons to not-in-humanity.txt

Status in “gnome-icon-theme” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Some icons were removed from Humanity in the end of Oneiric
development cycle (see bug 832170 for details), but only stock_search
  is whitelisted now.

  The full list (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/humanity-
  icon-theme/+bug/832170/comments/19; without stock_search):

  edit-find

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 885204] Re: Recommending proprietary driver on hybrid systems can break 3D

2011-11-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Nuno, see the bug description. Installing the proprietary NVidia driver
installs NVidia's libGL fork, which is not compatible with intel's. So
while you configured the BIOS to use the intel card, you'd break your
X.org by installing nvidia.

Bug description:
Hybrid systems have two video cards, but only one can be used as a
time. On some machines, only the active card is visible, but on some
both cards are visible to Jockey. In this case, if the system is set
up to run on Intel (say) with Unity-3d active and working fine, jockey
will notice the NVIDIA card and tell the user that the -nvidia driver
is recommended, and required in order to run Unity-3d. The user then
installs nvidia as recommended, reboots, and then loses 3d (since
they're now using the nvidia GLX library with the intel video driver
  running.)

There's probably several different ways to solve this. One idea would
be a blacklist registering specific systems which we know have hybrid
cards with this particular issue, and have jockey not suggest the
proprietary driver in this case (unless perhaps a --force flag is
  passed or some such).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 863834] Re: [regression] Suspend on lid close broken on Oneiric

2011-11-15 Thread Seby
the problem is upower that sees docked when not is docked, isn't a gnome
issue, see here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36818

Title:
[regression] Suspend on lid close broken on Oneiric

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
With Oneiric, I cannot have my laptop go into suspend mode by closing the lid
anymore. In the gnome settings, the lid close action is configured to suspend
(both on AC and on battery), but closing the lid does nothing.
Here is the output of acpid -d when I close the lid:
  No protocol specified
xset: unable to open display :0

And here it what it says when I open the lid:
  Sessions still open, not unmounting

Here is the output of acpi_listen when I close/open the lid:
  button/lid LID0 0080 0009
  button/lid LID0 0080 000a

Here is what /proc/acpi says with the lid open and closed:
  gpothier@tadzim:~$ cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state
  state: open
  gpothier@tadzim:~$ cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state
  state: closed

Suspending in itself works fine with the laptop's suspend button.

Suspend on lid close worked fine in Natty.
