[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1019515] [NEW] Firefox blank tab not blank
Public bug reported: When a new window is opened, with about:blank set to the page to display, that happens. When a new tab is opened, even in that new blank window, a nice 3x3 grid of huge buttons shows, pulled from history or somewhere. The underlying problem is getting endemic to open source: someone's great idea is so great that the implementer does not think that anyone will really be annoyed by it. Now, suppose I open a new tab and do not want the person I am showing something to to see my page viewing history, gratis, or anything but the subject at hand? The bug is that someone forgot that the content of a new tab should really appear the same as the new window. The effect is that I'll just switch browsers to one that doesn't have an annoying feature bundled. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019515 Title: Firefox blank tab not blank Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When a new window is opened, with about:blank set to the page to display, that happens. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1019519] [NEW] LibreOffice Writer pages open side-by-side mode
Public bug reported: When a new text document is opened the first page is in the top right corner of the new window. The ruler only shows over that half of the window. The top left corner of the window is blank, and wasted space. I cannot find a setting that affects this. A few existing documents also open like this but some also open as one would expect (one-up) - until with no apparent reason they become two- up. Thank goodness the screen is wide enough to find the text pane. Sorry, but I do not feel like taking the time to set up a debug version and stomp through the code to find the bug. My take is it's related to the almost-as-annoying feature that spots the pages two-up as the user zooms out. This laptops video [Compaq A900] is screwy, or gives Ubuntu headaches from release to release. I had an xrandr script that corrected previous release problems, and at or nearly the same time as this display issue the boot process began denying the screen resolution; there are messages saying something like the system software is not able to get the bounds from the hardware. I had to update the xrandr script with settings for the builtin screen now and must run it every boot. I mention that because it is possible that LibreOffice is pulling display (view rect) info from somewhere that retains incorrect numbers. I would have pulled the .debs to back off to LibreOffice 3.4 but Apache OpenOffice got in first and does not have this problem. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1018933] Re: NetworkManager does not connect eth0
I'm thinking it has to be related to hardware or the kernel module of eth0. I have 3 PC's running identical software (Kubuntu Precise complete up to date): - 1 older laptop - 1 older desktop - 1 brand-new laptop The install was for all three a clean install: no upgrade from the previous release. The home directories were of course preserved. Only the brand-new laptop has problems. For the others is managed=false in NetworkManager.conf and network/interfaces only contains auto eth0 and eth0 comes up properly. To make the thing even more strange: the brand-new PC was previously running lucid-i386 with the backported oneiric kernel (because the driver for eth0 was not supported by the lucid kernel) and then the settings were managed=false in NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf and eth0 was not mentioned at all in /etc/network/interfaces. eth0 did in lucid connect without problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1018933 Title: NetworkManager does not connect eth0 Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: NetworkManager does not start eth0 when /etc/network/interfaces only contains lo auto, iface lo inet loopback and eth0 auto. By prominently featuring Deja-Dup, it has become the de facto desktop backup solution for Ubuntu users. This bug prevents users from backing up to an external hard drive, probably the primary use case. (The original description was brief, and about only one package.) We've fixed all the packages that found in the apt logs uploaded in the first round of breakage. Now I've tried to review all the other apport hooks I could find in Quantal. Working from the archive's Contents file, I got the list of packages that have files under /usr/share/apport/package-hooks . I skipped the packages already fixed above, and those that were on my system, during the first round of breakage, and had no problems. For the rest, I downloaded the debs, extracted the apport hooks, and ran '2to3' on them. I've posted patches for every package that broke under python3. Thanks - Edward Donovan edward.dono...@numble.net These packages didn't break during the apport upgrade that forced a recompile, but they get warnings from the 2to3 tool: compiz-core eclipse-platform gnome-control-center-data gnome-settings-daemon grub-common nautilus-data unity-common apache2.2-common Now we have a bug report for at least gnome-control-center, bug 1018537, which I've duped here. So these may need patching, too. Hm...from a preliminary look, a number of those use the same code: if report.has_key(Stacktrace) which generates an exception with python3. We're probably going to want to change those to if Stacktrace in report and I'll try to post some of those simple patches, soon. Side note: rss-glx: the python is fine, but the hook file is just named 'source', with no package name or extension, so I filed bug 1017780 about that. Is there an official process to request this then? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016846 Title: Empathy Call depends on libcheese, but dependency is not aknowledged by package Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: The new Empathy Call interface, which is in Universe and not installed by default, depends on libcheese-gtk21 (and build depends on libcheese-gtk-dev ) as can be seen by checking the debian packages (debian does not split call into a separate package): http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/empathy http://packages.debian.org/source/wheezy/empathy And yet, the empathy-call package in Ubuntu does not depend on libcheese-gtk21. I'm pretty sure it looks for libcheeses's presence at runtime, because the Call interface works - I use it regularly - but if you didn't happen to have cheese already installed, and atempted to install empathy-cal, it wouldn't pull in the required libraries, leaving it non-functional. Fix: add libcheese-gtk21 to empathy-call depends. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 571038] Re: palimpsest crash with libgdu:ERROR:gdu-pool.c:2369:device_recurse: assertion failed: (depth 100)
This was also affecting me, but with the help of Mikhail (thank You bro! can I send U a beer? ;) - comment #46 - my drives are mounting properly. Unfortunately I also had a problem with partition table (disk utility showed a huge - kazillion TB - empty partition with at the end of disk, GParted showed the whole disk as unallocated). So I used 'testdisk' to analyze partitions. It found the inconsistency and wrote a new partition table. This fraked up GRUB, so I booted with an installation cd (Ubuntu 12.04), downloaded boot-repair, run the repair, reboot, and everything is ok now!! HURRAY! After disabling the network-manager, the garbage stopped being passed in, so I assume that network manager is to blame. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1018933] Re: NetworkManager does not connect eth0
For the others is managed=false in NetworkManager.conf and network/interfaces only contains auto eth0 and eth0 comes up properly. I presume that it is NM that brings up eth0 in that case. So it seems that NM *does* realize that auto eth0 alone isn't enough to count eth0 as being under ifupdown's control. So what I hypothesized in #4 was wrong. That's good to know. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 985975] Re: [wacom]: won't calibrate X220t
I confirm this bug, I also have a Lenovo Thinkpad x220t running Ubuntu 12.04. Unfortunately, I saw you assigned a low importance to this and I don't understand why. This is a major bug that prevents the full use of ubuntu 12.03 on tablets such as ours. In the absence of proper calibration, calling the laucher from the left edge is virtually impossible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985975 Title: [wacom]: won't calibrate X220t Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “libwacom” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have a Lenovo X220T with the multitouch/pen tablet display.
