Thanks, is there any regression with the upload? If not it could be good
to not block the update since it includes other fixes that should
ideally move to -updates, we can revisit that bug later on.

The patch used though here is the one from upstream, can you check if
the bug is resolved in e.g quantal? It worked for me when I tried and it
would be useful to know if the upstream fix is complete or if that needs
your variant of the patch still and why

  When users unckeck the Mute checkbox on Alert volume you reset the slider 
and the checkbox is automatically unchecked. However, the Alert volume is not 
actually unmuted. This is a significat design issue for obvious reasons, but 
also has the side effect that if the the user does not know that he's not 
getting audio alerts (s)he may miss some important work.

  After poking with it a bit, I think I just isolated it: it only
  happens when instead of unckecking the Mute checkbox on Alert
  volume you reset the slider and the checkbox is automatically
  unchecked. Visually the end result is the same (non-zero volume leve
  and unckecked box) but how you get there has different effect. By the
  way the Output volume slider doesn't have this problem, only the
  Alert volume.

What theme are you referring to?

The upstream report says that firefox is happy to oblige any scroll-bar
width prescribed by the OS theme.

My scroll-bar is the same size yours is. I'm a user who is not alone in
thinking that the default width is too small.

Where in Ubuntu can you change the scroll bar widths? Compiz? No. Unity?
No. Firefox? No.

Firefox says its a operating system's job to set such things. Isn't
compiz the window manager? Shouldn't it provide a setting for modifying
this? Or is it Unity? Where in Ubuntu?

Bug description:
I've been using the Internet since 1993 before and during the first
year browsers came out. Back then the scroll bars seemed as wide as
your finger.

As time has gone on, screen resolutions have continue to increase, but
each time this happens the browsers scroll bar gets more and more
narrow on the screen. It seems to maintain its pixel width, but at
higher resolutions its physical width continues to narrow.

At this point, I find myself wanting to enjoy higher resolutions, but
at the same time, I want things to be bigger at those higher
resolutions.

It has finally gotten to the point, that I find the width of scroll bars too
narrow, requiring too fine-grained of a mouse-control-effort for simple web
page navigation, such as:
1) Clicking the scroll-bar's up button
2) Clicking the scroll-bar's down button
3) Dragging the scroll-bar's slider.

Although a scroll-wheel is a helpful workaround, it remains an issue
that the scroll-bar itself continues to require ever increasing fine-
grained-effort to use. It is finally gotten to the point that I
consider it a cumbersome control.

I suggest doubling its size by default in future updates and releases
of Firefox. Or at lease making the scroll-bar easy to scale-adjust its
size (without the user having to understand CSS style sheet
modification). Perhaps it would be good to make the scroll-bar right-
clickable and providing a Adjust Width option in its context menu.

Many desktop applications could learn a thing or two from touch screen
interfaces. Notice how bluntly (widely) they make their buttons and
selectable options. They do it out of necessity because they know a
person is going to be using their finger to select that option.
However, even with a mouse, the bigger something is, the easier it is
to select. Just because a mouse-cursor comes to a fine point, doesn't
mean that controls ought to be barely bigger than that point.

I believe we have finally crossed a threshold. While before, we've
always been trying to maximize the browser's screen real estate, now
we've got plenty of width at higher resolutions, and it is time to
increase the width of scrollbars and make them require less fine-
grained-mouse-control-effort to use.

  Every time I try to log via a DM it fails. I have attached part of
  lightdm.log, but I have also tried kdm and gdm with about same result.

  Authentification is successful, the session seems to start normally,
  but for some reason exits after 0.05 sec. Effective user experience is
  black screen and the greeter again. No errors in Xorg.0.log or syslog.

  If I log in to console and run startx it works just perfectly.

I think the problem here is that pulseaudio is declared Multi-Arch:
foreign, where in fact it should not be multi-arch at all (only
libpulse and its dependencies should be multi-arch: same, which they
already are).

I don't know how pulseaudio and pulseaudio-esound-compat end up with
different architectures, but pulseaudio-esound-compat is useless without
a pulseaudio package of the same arch.

   * Currently application lens tokenizes applications names on change
  in the case. This means an application named AisleRiot can be found
  by searching aisle or riot (or any of its prefixes), but not the
  full name aisleriot. This may cause the users to not find an
  application.

   * Fix for this is already present in Quantal, and since searching for
  applications is one of primary uses of dash, it should be backported
  to Precise.

   * Despite what the original description says, full substring matching
  is not desired (ie leriot should NOT find AisleRiot.

   * Before the fix - observe that searching for aisle finds
  AisleRiot Solitaire (it is installed by default), but searching for
  aisleri doesn't match any applications.

   * With fix - seaching for aisleri correctly finds AisleRiot.

   * Note that this may seemed to work properly in P for some CamelCase
  applications (like LibreOffice, but that's because office is present
  in the binary name)

  Application Lens searches seem to be based on tokens of entire words,
  not substrings. They are delimited by whitespace or changes in
  capitalisation. If you attempt to search across changes in case, or in
  the middle of a word, the search fails.

  For example, I have Handbrake installed (http://handbrake.fr/ ). The
  desktop file gives a description of HandBrake. The capital letter B
  is significant. The following Lens application searches find
  Handbrake:

  1. hand
  2. brake

  The following Lens searches DO NOT find Handbrake:

  1. Handbrake
  2. HandBrake
  3. Handb
  4. and
  5. rake

  I would expect any of these searches to produce it. Even disregarding
  the substring matches in cases 4 and 5, cases 1-3 should work.

-Original Report-
Ever since upgrading to Unity 5.14.0-0ubuntu1 a few days ago, my alt+tabs
have been constantly breaking. I use alt+tab quickly, fast enough to never see
the switcher. The issue is that a good percentage of the time, the window is
brought to the front and the focus is momentarily flickered onto the desired
window but then the focus is entirely lost: Nothing is in the titlebar and any
input goes nowhere.

I don't recall any problems with the version previous to this update
pushed (5.12-0ubuntu1.1)

  Ugly icon resizing method hindering user experience.

  [Test Case]

  Observe scaled icons in Launcher before and after when Launcher icon
  size is non-even (for example 57) - jagged edges should change to
  smooth.

  Non-scaled icons should not become blurrier.

  The resize is done with nearest interpolation which is a poor, 
loosing-information algorithm. It should use at least linear filter or if 
possible bicubic interpolation for a smooth resize and appearence

  Encrypted volumes don't prompt for password when opened from launcher.

  Click an encrypted volume in launcher. It should prompt for password
  and unmount successfully.

  Mount operations via launcher in general. Current method in use in
  Ubuntu 12.10.

  Assuming that you have an encrypted volume that was attached to the
  computer while booting, when you click on it's icon in the launcher,
  it doesn't prompt for password to unlock the device. The right-click
  Open option on the icon doesn't work either. To mount the volume,
  the used has to open the File Manager first and then click on the
  volume to be prompted for the password that unlocks the volume. (see
  screen-shot).

  Binary package hint: firefox

  Firefox and Thunderbird along with lots other programs can't save
  files over the network because the save dialog doesn't show the
  network shares as they are in Places if you have a samba share
  mounted. The workaround is to go through the hidden .gvfs folder
  (Ctrl+H) in your home folder to save the file. So the issue is related
  to gvfs since all these work in KDE.
