You get a footline to the picture wich says “Illustration 1: Example picture one”. Repeat this for a second picture. Now try to add a cross-reference to one of the pictures: Place the cursor on some free text-writing-area. Then menue Insert > Cross-reference. In the Type field select “Illustration”. In the Selection field, the shown choices are not “Illustration 1” and “Illustration 2” but “llustration 1” and “llustration 2”. The first letter is missing. ...see screenshot This really turns into a problem, when I work with my own number-variables: In some text-area try: Select Menue Insert > Fields > Other, change to tab Variables. As Type select “Number range”. Note that the above used “Illustration” is also such a number range”. In the Name field type “Example” and push the button Insert. In another Paragraph add also some of these Example-Number-Range-variables. You get the numbers “1”, “2” and so on ...see second screenshot. Now try to make Cross-References to these numbers: Put the Cursor in another free text-writing-area and choose from the menu Insert>Cross-reference. As Type choose “Example”. The Selection-Aea remains empty. Expected behaviour: In the Selection Area the Numers 1, 2, and so on appear and can be selected. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1386955] Re: cross-reference to footnote doesn't update footnote number when changed
[Expired for libreoffice (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1386955 Title: cross-reference to footnote doesn't update footnote number when changed Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: LO version: 4.2.6.3 Ubuntu version: 14.04 Here's my problem: Suppose I have three footnotes. I want footnote 3 to refer back to footnote 1. I go to Insert > Cross-reference > Reference, and it duly prints 1. Clicking it sends me back to footnote 1. All fine. Now I add a footnote before footnote 1. The erstwhile footnote 1 is now footnote 2. But the number printed in the now footnote 4 still says 1, though clicking it sends me to the now footnote 2. This is unexpected because, like other fields like page number, you would expect cross-reference fields to update automatically. I have to click Update All Fields to update it. I've attached a document highlighting the problem. Footnote 4 refers to footnote 2 but has printed 1. That's because I added a footnote after the preceding sentence. Please let me know if you need more information. EDIT: It bears mentioning that Update All Fields only works if the file format is odt. It does not work with doc files, though I think that may be because clicking on cross-references in doc files doesn't work and attempting to delete them throws up "readonly content cannot be changed". [Expired for libreoffice (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047014 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 Unity glitches Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Well it may not be actually be FireFox but a problem with icons in the Launcher. Firefox with several tabs was running on my desktop and I had also launched Libreoffice calc. When I clicked on the icon for Libreoffice calc in the launcher nothing happened. Also its icon was white and did not have the typical spreadsheed pattern. I ran ubuntu-bug -w on a terminal but clicking on the Libreoffice calc icon in the launcher did not produce a bug report. So instead I clicked a Firefox window which produced a report. I had to exit Firefox to be able to bring Libreoffice calc to run on my desktop. Other observations: I like Ubuntu 12.04 Unity but it continues to have problems in applications sometimes hanging or misbehaving when they are doing things that are not simple. This has happened too often with FireFox and occasionally with LibreOffice writer. The latter had a problem today when its windows to cut/paste/save popped up blank. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1016603] Re: table design view handles field length non-intuitively
[Expired for libreoffice (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016603 Title: table design view handles field length non-intuitively Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Table design view handles field length non-intuitively when picking different field types. For example: 1. Choose VARBINARY field type, the Length input field below gets filled with 2147483647. 2. Now pick CHAR field type, the Length input field remains the same (2147483647). 3. Pick SMALLINT, the Length changes to 5. This behaviour _may_ be acceptable (some field types can have min-max lenghts, others are defined to be fixed length, etc.), but for the novice user it appears confusing. I suggest that: - For fixed length field types (TINYINT, BOOLEAN, REAL, etc.) the Lenth field should be _visibly_ disabled (grayed out). Right now, it is disabled, but this is not indicated by any shading, coloring, whatever. The average user won't understand, why the Length field is disabled. - When field types with min-max length restrictions are chosen, the GUI should clearly indicate the length limits. (Do not expect the novice user to read into the SQL standard for this.) - Have a default length value for every field type, and overwrite the length with it whenever the field type is changed. IMHO this is especially useful when the user is creating a new the table and skimming through the varius field types. Accidentally assigning a CHAR type length to be 2147483647 instead of 100 (see 1-2 steps above) should be avoided. I guess that there are scenarios where the current behaviour (only touch the length value when changing to a field type, for which the current length value is too high/low) is only safer when modifying an existing table structure - changing a CHAR field to VARCHAR for example. But that small safety is also lost after the user accidentally picks a BOOLEAN or a VARBINARY type. So I guess if we're creating a brand new table column, then the length should be overwritten by a default tied to the field type, whenever the field type changes. And if we're in the middle of editing an existing column, the GUI should always remember the original length value and try to set it as a default, whenever a different field type is selected, and the length constraints of that field type allow the original length value. Otherwise it should set the length to the value that is closest to the original length. For example, I select the David CLM font, which is Hebrew specific, as far as I understand. But as soon as I start typing in Hebrew, the font gets switched to another one - Lohit Hindi for no obvious reason. * If I want to have the font setting persist, I need to first type something with this wrong font, and then change the font to the desired one. After doing it this way, the selected font will persist and I can continue to type with the right one. * However, if some time later I decide to change the font again (say, to the Aharoni CLM), I cannot do it in the beginning of a paragraph, otherwise it will switch back again - to the David CLM font. * When I'm typing in Hewbrew, the language indicator on the status row (to the left of the INSRT indicator) shows Hindi. * Every time I start a new paragraph, I can see the language switch to English (USA). As soon as I start typing, it switches back to Hindi. * The problem appears only when trying to type in Hebrew, it's totally fine in Russian and in English. I did configure the system to support Hebrew and RTL input, by going to System Settings -> Language Support and installing Hebrew. Also there was some option to specifically install RTL support, which I enabled, too. I updated the system after that. And also restarted it multiple times. There are some specific Hebrew fonts which were automatically installed during the installation process in the Language Support. A friend of mine who is still using OpenOffice on a previous version of Ubuntu, doesn't have this bug. I couldn't find any similar reports from other users, however I found this post on the developers mailing list which seems to be connected to this issue, though I did not manage to figure how: http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/bug-622301-libreoffice-l10n-he-updated-settings-hebrew-help-202903412.html P.s. my current system: Ubuntu 12.04, 64 bit on VirtualBox host. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1334056] Re: LibreOffice opens a TCP port on localhost and doesn't start if the port is blocked
[Expired for libreoffice (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1334056 Title: LibreOffice opens a TCP port on localhost and doesn't start if the port is blocked Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I am on Kubuntu 14.04 amd64 with latest packages of everything (libreoffice-core = Version: 1:4.2.4-0ubuntu2). LibreOffice was working fine until about 2014-06-22 - thats the modification date of the last file which I edited with it. Somewhere between 2014-06-22 and 2014-06-24, a package was auto-updated and now it won't start anymore. It hangs at the splash screen. I've figured out the reason: LibreOffice opens a random TCP port on 127.0.0.1 and tries to connect to it. Because I have blocked connections to localhost in my firewall, the connection fails, resulting in the hang. If I open the port, it works. I cannot add a firewall rule to fix this permanently though because the port is chosen randomly. And why does a text editor need a TCP port anyway? Please do one of the following: - Check whether this is debug functionality which has accidentally been left in. It might be a security issue, so I filed this as security. Please remove the flag if it is not. - Add a way of configuring it to disable the TCP stuff. - Add a way of configuring which port is used . Please do not tell me that denying access to localhost is nonsense: There are certain daemons which do not provide authentication mechanisms, and there are multiuser machines. If I want to protect those daemons on a multiuser machine I need to deny localhost connections by default and work with whitelisting allowed types of connections. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1460078] Re: libreoffice-kde does not provide the system (=KDE) file dialog
[Expired for libreoffice (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1460078 Title: libreoffice-kde does not provide the system (=KDE) file dialog Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: This report concerns KUbuntu Trust 14.04.2 LTS and libreoffice 1:4.2.8-0ubuntu2 . LibreOffice has an option (tick box) in the general settings that allows the user to chose between LibreOffice's own file dialogs, and the "system" dialogs. When the libreoffice-kde package is not installed, this indeed works, and one gets (what appears to be) the standard GTk file dialog for saving, opening, etc. As soon as libreoffice-kde is installed, one always gets the LibreOffice dialog, regardless of the setting of this option. This degrades DE homogeneity, and also causes a loss of features present in the KDE file dialog but not in LibreOffice's. Keeping libreoffice-kde uninstalled would be a workaround, but leads to worse discomfort (very ugly and heavy UI font). Notes: a) This happens if i open a file and i try to open it again b) Only happens on network shares (smb, cifs, using nautilus, defining them in fstab, using pam_mount, etc, this is not the same bug from some time ago were smb shares would fail if mounted browsing the windows network in nautilus) c) Only happens on LTSP thin clients, with libreoffice running on the server. d) If the user blocking the file is not an LTSP thin client machine, even from a thing client machine, you get the correct message. [Expired for libreoffice (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019519 Title: LibreOffice Writer pages open side-by-side mode Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: When a new text document is opened the first page is in the top right corner of the new window. The ruler only shows over that half of the window. The top left corner of the window is blank, and wasted space. I cannot find a setting that affects this. A few existing documents also open like this but some also open as one would expect (one-up) - until with no apparent reason they become two- up. Thank goodness the screen is wide enough to find the text pane. Sorry, but I do not feel like taking the time to set up a debug version and stomp through the code to find the bug. My take is it's related to the almost-as-annoying feature that spots the pages two-up as the user zooms out. This laptops video [Compaq A900] is screwy, or gives Ubuntu headaches from release to release. I had an xrandr script that corrected previous release problems, and at or nearly the same time as this display issue the boot process began denying the screen resolution; there are messages saying something like the system software is not able to get the bounds from the hardware. I had to update the xrandr script with settings for the builtin screen now and must run it every boot. I mention that because it is possible that LibreOffice is pulling display (view rect) info from somewhere that retains incorrect numbers. I would have pulled the .debs to back off to LibreOffice 3.4 but Apache OpenOffice got in first and does not have this problem. It happens when only the text in a textbox is changed but nothing else. This is actually really annoying as it may lead to whole paragraphs of text getting lost or to other corrections not being saved (and as such, errors or typos getting re-introduced without noticing). Steps to reproduce: I'm testing. The bug doesn't appear in all my documents. It seems that it depends on the number of objects in the document, but I couldn't verify it yet. Current behavior: The most recent change done to any textbox is not saved, unless something else is modified afterwards or the textbox is cut out and pasted again. By installing only half the packages at a time, I narrowed down the problematic package to just one, libreoffice-wiki-publisher 1.1.1+LibO3.5.1-1ubuntu1 There is something in the packaging here that prevents any packages from installing when this package is set to install. See the attached screen shot for details. On a Maverick install, the list is: * standard.doc * soffice.dic * Ubuntu.dic * IgnoreAllList Presumably, the second one only applies to OpenOffice.org itself while the other ones may apply to other applications as well or to the whole OS. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open OpenOffice.org Impress 2. Enter some misspelt text 3. Right-click on the misspelt word 4. Navigate to the Add sub-menu Expected behaviour: The list of options in the Add sub-menu clearly states what is the scope of each dictionary (OO.o Impress only, all of OO.o, all of Ubuntu) by providing a textual description rather than a file name. Actual behaviour: The in the Add sub-menu gives the user no clue as to what the difference is between the different dictionaries and whether adding it to one or the other will make any difference. *** 2011-02-14 - cannot reproduce in LibreOffice 3.3, Maverick -- leighman *** ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: openoffice.org (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-19.28-generic 2.6.35.3 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-19-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Sep 5 13:50:34 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Beta i386 (20100406.1) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: openoffice.org To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/630826/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This used to work correctly with Ubuntu 14.04. I reported problems with this last Fall, but the problem has gotten worse instead of better. My original report no longer shows up in my bug list. The problem is NOT with the printer. The duplexer works correctly in local mode. Although I specify "long edge" double-sided, auto tray select, I get: Letter size (wrong tray, the default tray -- the document is formatted legal-size) Single sided (all pages) Second page is printed upside-down (as though I had specified tumble-head, that is, short-edge double sided) A blank fourth (and sometimes fourh and fifth) page is "printed" at the end of the document, even though the document is only three pages long. The source file contains only three pages - no dummy extra page like OO used to do. On some print runs I have specified multiple copies, collated. Some are specified to be printed in reverse order, but neither seems to make any difference (might account for the fifth page -- have to check). I have checked all the settings in the drop-down "file" tab and each of the printer specification popups. They are set correctly. Until recently, PDFs were printed correctly, but now neither *.odt nor *.pdf files are printed correctly. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04, fully up-to-date. My initial attempt crashed the system such that the only way to turn off the system was hold the power button. After that I decided to do it in parts. I took the first part which was basically a single paragraph. The first paragraph went in, so I tried some more text, after the first picture. That again crashed Ubuntu so the power button again was needed. A third attempt likewise crashed the system, so that I understood that there are apparently some characters which Libre Office has real trouble with. To solve the problem I did a copy paste into gedit which lost all the formatting information - but at least it worked with no crashes. After I had all the text in gedit, I could copy paste from gedit to LIbre Office. Then I did a copy image on the pictures and added them. The copy image was clean - as I have come to expect from Libre Office. In short, I got the job done. Since I have a very high opinion of Libre Office, I would like someone to look into the problem and filter out whatever nasty character is crashing the system. The article is the following: http://www.israelhayom.co.il/article/281893 I'm sure a lot of other things would also show the problem, but this one crashes it for sure. ilan@ilan-main:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 15.04 Release: 15.04 LibreOffice Version: 4.4.2.2 Build ID: 40m0(Build:2) Locale: en_US To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1465490/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

By default, the EPS image support was broken in a non-obvious way - templates with EPS files would open, but the image would be a blank/transparent frame and no error was generated. It turned out that I needed the 'ghostscript' package as well. For whatever reason, that wasn't installed by default on the server, and installing libreoffice didn't pull it in. I would suggest that this be a dependency of the package; while for desktop users it's probably not an issue, and therefore is a small portion of the userbase, until LO gets native EPS support this could confuse people. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 891539] Re: Fullscreen via F11 should work
[Expired for libreoffice (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/891539 Title: Fullscreen via F11 should work Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: at the moment, pressing F11 in most applications in Ubuntu sends the application main window into fullscreen mode. Fullscreen mode is important, especially when one wants to do dedicated work that requires using the screen edges and corners WITHIN an application. When an application main window is maximized, touching the left edge of the screen would still bring up the launcher, which would cover often crucial UI elements of the respective suite, e.g. Libreoffice, Gimp, Inkscape. Pressing F11 to take the application main window into fullscreen mode remedies this problem. Unfortunately, inconsistently with nearly all other apps, LibreOffice binds a different operation to F11, while fullscreen is available via CTRL+SHIFT+J. F11 should consistently activate fullscreen in all fullscreen-capable apps in Ubuntu/Unity.
