When I press the "windows" key and start searching for an app this works
fine, and I can launch the app. However immediately afterwards all windows
freeze, loose their decoration/position. Then the screen flashes and we're
back. All notification in the queue pop up again as well.

  It happens almost every time.

I checked the PID of the gnome-shell in top, and it effectively changes so I
believe the gnome-shell crashes. It shouldn't.
How can I collect relevant debug info?
I cannot seem to find a cause.
I'm using nvidia-drivers if that matters.

Bug description:
When I add only one L2TP VPN profile to gnome-control-center's Network
  > VPN settings, it works fine.

  However, if I add a 2nd L2TP VPN, the 2nd L2TP VPN, not only doesn't
work, but it corrupts the first L2TP VPN so that it too stops working.

Furthermore, if I remove 2nd L2TP VPN profile (that corrupted the
first L2TP VPN) this does NOT repair the corruption to the first L2TP
  VPN, it remains corrupted.

Additionally, removing all VPN profiles and re-adding the first one
back, doesn't repair the corruption. Rebooting and adding them back
  doesn't work either.

The only thing that works, that I've found, is completely reinstalling
Ubuntu 19.10. Please advise better workarounds than reinstalling.

In case it matters, these additional packages were also required for
  my initial VPN setup:

  sudo apt-get install -y network-manager-l2tp network-manager-l2tp-
  gnome strongswan

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1966580] Re: Erroneously huge mouse pointer with snap-packaged firefox in jammy

2022-05-28 Thread Max Bowsher
Sorry, I am opposed to Canonical forcing snap on Ubuntu users and do not
wish to spend my personal time on supporting that.

I'll just use a non-snap distribution mechanism instead.

Erroneously huge mouse pointer with snap-packaged firefox in jammy

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I just upgraded to jammy, and the mouse cursor now becomes comically
huge whilst it's over a Firefox window.

I suspect this might be something to do with this being a HiDPI
  laptop.

I'm also fairly upset about the overcomplicated - and apparently broken -
snaps being enforced on me, so I've fixed this by uninstalling snapd, and
obtaining Firefox directly from Mozilla instead - which works absolutely fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1976155] [NEW] [HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-aw2xxx, Intel Tigerlake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2022-05-28 Thread Steeve Daniel
Public bug reported:

I have tried everything I could find on the web to try and fix this. The
sound input and outputs do not work on my machine. The only way I can
hear sounds is if I use a bluetooth headset and in that case too the
mic/input doesn't work so I cannot attend meetings and calls. The
internal speaker nor the 3.5mm headphones jack work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1966580] Re: Erroneously huge mouse pointer with snap-packaged firefox in jammy

2022-05-28 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better.

Firefox is provided by a snap published by Mozilla and not by Canonical.
They may not be aware of this issue so please contact them via
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/file-bug-report-or-feature-request-
mozilla and link the bug report here so it can be further tracked. Thank
you!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970784] Re: Cannot create an email of more than approx. 930 characters

2022-05-28 Thread Paul White
Herbert,

Erich's action was to assign your bug report to the Thunderbird package
as the report was raised initially against the Ubuntu project in
general. Ubuntu developers generally only subscribe to bug reports that
they are responsible for rather than all Ubuntu bug reports. So it is
essential that bug reports are targetted towards those than can really
help with reported issues.

However, you did say that you are seeing this issue with four email
clients so I agree that the problem is not with Thunderbird. If your
mail provider has investigated the issue then they presumably are not at
fault either. If this is still an issue then I would suggest a support
site such as support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org in order to ascertain the where the problem
might lie. Moving this bug report, if the problem persists, to the
problematic package will still be required should no-one else intervene
in the meantime.

I see that the related question suggested contacting Mozilla. Did you do
that and if so was any help forthcoming?

I'm moving this report back to the general Ubuntu pocket rather than
invalidating it as you have confirmed you do not see this issue when
using Windows 10 so still an Ubuntu issue.

Cannot create an email of more than approx. 930 characters

Status in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu: 20.04 LTS
  Kernel: 5.13.0-40-generic
  Thunderbird: 91.8.1 (64 bit)

Since starting service with an new ISP, I have been having problems
with Thunderbird outgoing mail (incoming works fine). I did not see
this problem with my previous ISP.

In both plain text and HTML formats, if the body of the email is
greater than approx. 930 characters, when I click , the progress
window goes to 100% sent, then hangs and eventually times out with the
message not being sent. It shows an error message:

  "Sending of message failed
The message could not be sent using Outgoing server for an unknown reason.
Pleas verify that your Outgoing server settings are correct and try again."

I have contacted the new ISP about this and they have no idea what is
causing this except it is not a problem with their SMTP host. All
email settings are as directed by the new ISP.

I have confirmed this on 2 computers, both running the same software
by creating messages with known character counts of over 1000
characters, created in a basic text editor, and progressively deleting
characters until it is successfully sent and recounting the
  characters.

I do not see this problem on a Windows 10 machine using the same
version of Thunderbird. I have also tried different email clients on
Ubuntu and see the same issue.

I am at a loss, so any possible clues as to what is going on would be
  greatly appreciated.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1855434] Re: Vino VNC connection has wrong keyboard layout

2022-05-28 Thread quadra
I've the same bug in vino3.22.0-5ubuntu0.1, Linux Mint 19

It makes vino basically unusable for all non-US users.
It's definitely in vino server, not in the vnc client.
Workaround ''sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration'' doesn't work for me
It's a regression, bug was not there e.g. in vino3.8.1-0ubuntu9.4 on ubuntu
16.04

Title:
Vino VNC connection has wrong keyboard layout

Status in vino package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading a machine from 16.04.3 LTS to 18.04.3 Vino VNC connections
use the wrong keyboard layout.
By default I use "DE" keyboard layout.

If I connect from another 18.04.3 machine to said vino on the upgraded
18.04.3 machine, the keyboard layout seems to be "kind of" US, not other keys
are as well not correct.
I can only fix this by running
   sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration
in a console (pressing Enter all the way through and confirm settings) and
rebooting. If I connect to vino VNC after issueing this command and rebooting,
the layout is correct until next reboot. Then I have to issue this command
again and so on.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1547589] Re: rtkit-daemon flooding syslog

2022-05-28 Thread Olivier Duclos
An easy way to solve this problem is to use the LogLevelMax systemd
property:

1. As root, run `systemctl edit rtkit-daemon` to create a new droppin for this
service.
2. Add this to the new file:

[Service]
LogLevelMax=warning

3. Restart the service: `systemctl restart rtkit-daemon`

There is a plan to remove resolvconf from the Ubuntu Server image.
resolvconf integrated with other parts of the system in 2 ways:
   * hooks invoked on change (/etc/resolvconf/update.d/)
